Electrician here--good way to remember how to hook up outlets--black to brass, white to silver, green to ground. Also, the outlet/switch box you put in is called a remodel box. You could have also out in a new construction box (which attaches to a stud) before putting on the dry wall. Also, as someone already said in here, would have been much easier to route the electrical before putting up the drywall as well. Wouldn’t have had to drill holes in your ceiling that you now have to patch. Just a few tips. The project looks amazing. You two did a killer job.
LOL, thx!
I really like it that you're teaching your wife about all the nitty gritty of DIY. and through the process you're teaching your viewers too. Nice...
ProTip*
For educational purpose. When laying down tile. Always wipe the floor with a damp sponge to have proper bonding. The thinset and tile will adhere to the floor properly when you wipe across with a wet sponge. Same as when u drop concrete u wet first so the moisture is not sucked out immediately when u pour it down. Wipe, lay thinset, lay thinset on tile and move on. Hope this helps for suture projects. Love your videos.
I’m gonna make a prediction here seeing how much you are open to do with this house versus the previous one. Next home project you are probably just gonna build the whole damn house by yourselves. 😎
Love the matte black hex tile and dark grout. Enjoying the hubby & wife team work. Good job guys !
When he dropped the light fixture, l clapped! 👏👏👏
I was wondering why the electrical wasn’t done before the drywall..lesson for the next one I guess. We all been there!! Love the channel..nothing but love here from a fellow DIYer. Love that the wife is helping, wish I could get my husband to help me.
Thanks for watching!
Mrs.Build It popped those sweet crocs in four wheel drive!
Really digging the floor tile. Think I might want to do this in one of our smaller bathrooms.
Your wife is a natural. She must watch your channel!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Good job guys! and not only you can remodel a home you also can cook lunch for the kids, Alex, you're an awesome dude. Stay Safe & Healthy... Abrazos
Really love your videos. Hate drywall with a passion but love the enthusiasm you show. Looking wonderful!
What is the point of textured walls. I think its similar to popcorn ceilings. Ugh
The house already has them, and it's easier to match it then to remove where it already is.
Hides a bad drywall job
yep..
Depends on the texture as well, you can get better textures than "popcorn." I find it weird/unerving when im in a house with plain ceilings now since I lived with them all my life. Oh well.
Your videos are fun to watch 👏🏻 😀. I like the new video editing flow 👍🏻
Those green beans at 2:58 look about like what I make in the kitchen!
Haha was looking for this comment
Looks SO good Alex! I love how your wife takes part in this ❤️
Me too!!
I enjoyed you guys video and I love when my wife helps me DIY!
Her outfit is definitely for a run. Her Crocs are in SPORTS MODE!!
You guys are a power couple! Can’t wait to see more!🙌🏼
Drywall guys are losing their minds . Lol
The place is looking great!
you need to scorch the face of the drywall, in case you get a tear, the tear would be in the back. In the bathroom you need to use water resistant drywall - green/blue
AHHHHHH, Can't wait to see the finish product. Love the flooring :)))
Gonna have to change the name channel to Mr & Mrs build it
in your videos, you should do a comparison between how much it cost you/how long it took you vs how much it would've cost to hire somebody! I think that would be very helpful!
That hex tile is clean as can be guys, well done!
We put that exact tile in our kids bathroom and we love it! Great job guys!
I will be getting started on my bathroom after my beach trip next week. Be on the lookout Alex! I am going to reference you!
Can't wait!
Do you have any videos on converting a tub/bath enclosure to a walk in tiled shower with glass doors? I have the courage and can generate the sweat but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little nervous lol
I love your vids they are so cool because I always learning something new about electrical or water or house installation and removal useful tips
Just curious, to prevent cracking in the floor tile, isn't a Uncoupling Underlayment like (Ditra) recommended?
Not when it's a concrete slab
Your the goat 🐐 love your videos ur the reason I started remolding my whole house thank you stay amazing brotha
Were the hot and cold water lines backward or was camera inverted?
Noticed that too
Does Mrs. Build It have a channel? If not, she needs one!
Wagos are the way to go over wire nuts brotha! Another electrician here chiming in. That’s all. Awesome video.
Me living in the UK is so inconvenient for your uploads hahaha in work looks like I'm having my break now 🤣 great vid as always !! Progress coming along nicely !
Hey man where in UK are you
Would you do a small test piece of the same tile to see if once grout is done if a thin layer of epoxy would protect from chipping?
10:33 "Well, this is why I should wear safety glasses"
Proceeds to not put them on 😂
Love your videoes, guys! Love from Denmark! ❤️
Those firecracker meatballs are truly FIRE!
I loved when the bulb was stuck and Alex says, “look, a DIY pendant” So Funny (PS: that’s happened to me one or two times). Also, I appreciated the little comments Irena made such as “smaller grout lines are better bc larger ones get dirtier” (truth!) and her suggestion of direction of the floor tile, since you’ll be laying wall tiles vertically. It’s nice to have someone w/ a full time design background, like Irena, make little suggestions like that; other tile direction would have looked great too, but maybe just a habit to lay diagonal, I dunno? Either way, she made me smile bc the little things can make an impact when it comes to design. Anyhow, sry for the long comment… Job well done Alex & Irena!!!
(Please tell Tyler we do miss seeing him in your videos, hope to see him again soon!!!)
this man is so underrated
Love the tile
Once again - gr8 job.
Great video!! You guys make this look EASY!!! I tried the skip and trowel method of texture on my garage and I Feel like I did an OK job! I posted the video on my channel and It may not be perfect but I am happy with the results!!
How come you didn’t roll out the tile leveling system for this one? Hexagons are really fiddly so would have been perfect for the wedges.
Soooooo good!
Getting ready to tile my whole downstairs. Question is, Schluter or no Schluter?
Job well done Alex. I like the collaboration with your wife. Where's Tyler? It's been a while since I saw him in your videos.
Love your videos! King
Great tile
Good wife...happy life 😆
UA-cam is gonna love your wife
- Great Team!
Awesome work!!!
Once again a winner of a video!
If you haven’t posted in 2 weeks, that means you’re pretty busy. BUT……!! I’m having Mr. Build it withdrawals, I need more content 😁. Hope all is well.
Nice tile. Suggestion is to find your room center line. But that's me.
Good call!
Why didn’t you reroute the electrical while there was no drywall? Seems like you could have saved yourself some hassle there
forgot to
@@MrBuildit I love an honest reply
Amateur
@@MrBuildit a true Diy-er lol awesome job!!!
💖💖💖💖💖 Beautiful Family, Great Job !👍🏻👍🏻
Outfit match ♡ so in love with you guys!!!!!
4x4 gang less gooo!
Great video! what rifle you working on at the end of of the video there ;) ?
AK
Oops .... did you burn the green beans ???? haha :)
When doing the tile cuts, do you have to remove the contact you had in those spots or just put more of the mix ontop?
those poor green beans 😂
Couple Goals
Been waiting for this lol
This is exiting! :D
Nobody goin to say nun bout those peas…🤣
Nice!
Y’all are better then the stupid home improvement shows on TV.
Is texturing walls a midwestern thing? Great vid though!
I’ve been hearing a lot of people regretting the black tile due to it being high maintenance, like showing dirt and water spots. Hopefully y’all don’t regret it.
Miis Build wil son be a pro !
It looks amazing. Great job! I'm not going to lie though I REALLY miss the intimate feel of you setting up the camera on a tripod, speeding up the clips and voicing over the how-to on top of the footage. Your editor is amazing but sometimes all of the different angles and loud music that goes in and out can be nauseating. In your older videos it felt more like the viewer was sitting there in the room with you. Looking forward to seeing how this comes together!
I agree! Feels my h more rushed and misses a lot of the details that used to be shown in older vids. I had to check i was watching at normal speed
What tool did you use to cut the tile? Is there a blade that can cut natural stone?
Mr. Build it Felix Jr
Why don't you place glass wool insulation for the bathrooms for more privacy and soundproof
Electrician here!- Why did you old work your feeds and switch loops when you could have new worked them with the bare framing!? Just a tip for future builds
What type of grout did you use? I have the exact same floor tile
Hi There,
What is the size of tile and where i can get it from?
Thanks
Awesome
Just curious, but looks as if you reversed water lines (pex) on your faucet…
1:09 was that a GET HANDS DIRTY reference?
Newb question...why did you forgo the sound barrier?
How do you have your traction boards mounted in your bed?
I suck at mudding so bad So messy and not smooth 😫😫
Do you not need some sort of uncoupling membrane or cement backer board when laying tile on top of a concrete slab?
should have, yeah.
my understanding , the membrane is for flex on subflooring. this is straight concrete. no flex
@@MrBuildit Thanks for answering! Doesn’t concrete settle and move with temperature? (Genuinely asking-we’re about tile our downstairs bathroom) :)
@@MrBuildit No you need a membrane on slab flooring. Concrete flexes, which will crack or pop a tile off.
Cement board would have brought the tile level to the wood floor too. Tile looked low. I love how Alex just goes for it though, makes a mess, and it ends up turning out great!
Hit it with 220... 180 syke...lol.
The next time you do a title to say yourself from so many small pieces if you lay it out from the center of the room and the you end up with equal size piece on both sides of the room and not a full tile on one side and a little piece on the other this can say a lot of work. With the title you used I would have cut of one corner on all the tiles you started with to put the flat on the wall this save all the little filler pieces that take the longest to do and no little pieces that can Break really easy. Hope this makes sense to you. Keep up the good work the house is looking amazing.
Do you not plaster the walls over in the US , just curious
Broooo, did you reall put the hot water value on the right?
im not seeing the plumbing for the toilet water supply valves
That's my mindset...."what do you think?"....."sure"....basically, "it's your world squirrel, I'm just trying to get a nut"
Why texture the walls??
His whole house is already textured. It's matching the rest of the house.
yup
@@RandyL86 Yeah but again why texture the walls of the house too??
@@Hector__11 That's what builders do in America.
@@Maximusrex4575 Outdated what it is
Rather than have to spray on a textured coating to hide a not so good mud/tape job, just hire a professional to do that part. Knowing your limitations is a big part of DIY stuff. For a room that size it would cost maybe $250 for someone to come in and do an amazing job start to finish: mud, tape, feather, sand.
The whole house is textured, you would know if you watched his videos so he’s not doing it to hide anything he’s doing it to match 🤦🏻♂️
@@biggers4299 I do watch his videos. His whole house is textured cause he's not good at mudding/taping.
He might just like the textured look?
Nah he’s only done textured walls because that’s how the rest of the house was when he bought it.
@@jhende7 yeah I know but he might like the textured look
Sike!🤣💕
How the hell did you burn runner beans
love your energy, skill, and passion for the trades. I just can't help but think that you completely renovated a home that was perfectly functional, and looked like it may have been renovated just 10ish years ago. In this industry there is a big carbon footprint. Would be awesome to at least recognize your part.
Plumber here, hot should always be on the lefttt
That disassembled ak tho…
you need to be wearing a mask when doing the tile cutting, look at all that dust
