The plastic modelers are like waitt you call that weathering, hold my beer. Nice job on this, we don’t see enough RC models weathered at all. This is nicely done and is not over the top at all.
Thanks! 😆 yeah, it’s really easy to overdo the weathering, especially certain techniques. As it is, some of it came out heavier than I wanted based on the acrylic paint I used for the shading.
Oh man, Callie Graphics, that brings me back! I was building and kitting balsa scale models about 20 years ago and she would do all my graphics. What a gem, she does the best work, amazing she's still at it.
Chris, thanks for sharing this process. Really appreciate what you are bringing to the RC Community. You are helping us all "Level Up!" our modeling skills. Thanks Will
The T-33 is absolutely my favorite jet! Every R/C model of this thing flies like it's on rails. Might be because of the drop tanks or something but this plane will always be no.1 in my book!
It amuses me that some folks like the “weathered” look. Personally I like my planes like I like my cars, to look, brand spanking new! To each their own I guess! All that being said, Chris, this is a work of art my friend. Just absolutely stunning.
Thanks for the kind words! As you say, to each their own on the finish. That’s the beauty of customization, you can craft it into whatever your vision is. My goal is just to make something that simulates the full scale as much as possible in miniature. 😆
Wow, what a difference, looks great, can't wait to see her at the field. After doing a test flight for John I discovered how great they fly. I use yellow frog tape and confirm that pulling as you show is the way to go.
Same. Looking back on my f14 i could have tried 5h thinner pencil lead. My panels came out a bit to thick and dark. But i was happy with it all in the end. It was my first refinish project.
When you were describing the issues with your panel lines and paints, I couldn't help but laugh, when I saw the shirt you were wearing. "No Mistakes, Just Happy Accidents"- Bob Ross. Beautiful TV-2 btw
Ok, I'm inspired. Been following a long time, got the book to reference back to, this video has pushed me over the edge to try some of these techniques!
That's an eye-popping beautiful paint job, Chris! I've had a couple cans, from that brand AND Behr, take up to 2 days to fully dry to the touch. It's not typical. But, I've had it. Didn't matter if i used it on a spinner, or fuse or wing. They just dont make rattle cans like they used to. 😊 Beautiful model! Cant wait to see her buttering up the strip at your field soon 👍
Thanks! Yeah, the long dry time was weird and not something I’d experienced with that primer before. Thankfully it did dry and worked out well in the end.
Another masterclass Chris. Nothing I haven't said to you many times before. I used spray cans for everything only I typically use Krylon. Its so nice seeing tgat we use so many similar techniques but as always you always force me to up my game 😊. Always love seeing your work!
Fantastic job mate! I hope you rebuild the Hustler as it is one of a kind model and probably you have some parts you can reuse. Keep doing these videos!
Thank you! I hope to do another hustler, but Unfortunately, there wasn’t much left of the it that was usable other than some servos and the half of the fans. Everything else was in really bad shape including the landing gear. 😕
The model looks stunning, thanks for sharing Chris. I am at the end of my Jet provost T4 build and your video has given me some very useful tips for brining my 1/6th scale jet to life. 👍😎
Too backoff the pencil lines you could also try an artists kneeded eraser, you might need to touch it to something like jeans so it isn't full tacky but it would allow you to take off some of the pencil if it's too dark.
The primer you spoke about taking more than twenty-four hours to cure. I found it takes a minimum of two days before it is sandible. This primer sands very well.
I did make a nose template and you can kind of see it as I was taping. Even still, needed some tweaking to get it to look symmetrical from the front. That was the hardest part.
Thank you! The book covers the paints I use, and is a good reference for starting out with foam paints. Also, be on the lookout for this Fridays video post. 😊 it will help as well.
Awesome job looks great, question when you did the sanding in the beginning you put clear coat over the model then shoot your main colors I always just clear coat at the end of the project great video😊👍👍👍
I didn’t clear coat the primer. That was just water for wet sanding. I did need to clear coat the panel lines though to protect them. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have lasted through the weathering process and also would have smeared a bunch while handling. When I apply clear and any point, it’s just a light dusting, never heavy.
@@Thercgeek Ok thanks for the reply your workmanship is great can't wait for the maiden if you don't release it before holiday have a Happy Thanksgiving 😊
Thanks! While the poly and primer does help stabilize things, it’s really more about the frog tape and cutting it down into smaller strips and de-tacking it before application. And then, ensuring it’s peels back over itself when lifting it up.
Thanks! Never weighed it, so can’t say. My experience has been that the models fly better after a full refinish like this despite any weight gain. So, don’t really worry about it truthfully.
Not a traditional review, no. If I do anything it’ll be a refinish series, but I don’t have that model at the moment and no plans to get one for the foreseeable future.
They are. For the stars and bars, I pulled the transfer tape up before applying them, sprayed windex on the surface and then applied them that way. The windex helps them to act like water slides and gives more time for placement. When happy with the placement, you press out the windex from underneath and let it evaporate out. Then, do a final press once everything’s dry. Helps reduce the chance of capturing air bubbles too.
The model has already flown perfectly with the gear I’ve got. I do have a new radio to test, but haven’t found the time to get it flown in anything yet. Not really the model to test a new system you’ve never used before especially when it’s already proven reliable in the model.
This is a cool video about finishing your model. My question is how do you fix your mistakes? We all have had those Aww -Sh1t moments and that would be a really helpful to see how you recover from those moments
I do a monthly masterclass video exclusively for channel members where we dive into those kind of topics in detail. I actually talk to that a bit in the latest masterclass that’ll be coming this next week.
I've had that drying issue with Rust-Oleum lately too, so I try not to use it much anymore. I've switched to Duplicolor which seems to be compatible with Rusto. Your plane looks bitchin btw!
Thanks! Agree, duplicolor is good stuff. I use their primer exclusively. I went with the rustoleum white because of the tone of the white, but yeah don’t think I’ll use it again.
Nice looking plane. Been trying to get one here, but MotionRC is charging $200 to get it to me in Hawaii. So that's a no. Freewing won't ship direct either. It's a bunch of bullshit.
Another peace of art :) Great Job! 👍 Although not the worst plane to see in the sky my eyes are asking for another (not silver) paint scheme. So I was planning to order decals for a Red Knight scheme from Callie. But now I will ask her if the decals she made for you are available too. BTW: I love to do touch & go´s and slowly moved the CG more backwards. I ended up 15 mm behind stock with reduced throws which felt perfect for me. If of any interest you find a short T-33 vid on my channel. ua-cam.com/video/qFtRc5RhRZU/v-deo.html Looking forward to watch your Flying Video.
Only one thing left now! Don't forget to grab a copy of my new book here ► bit.ly/TRCGBook

You and me both! 😊
Very nicely done Chris!!
Thank you!
Another great paint job Chris 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Many thanks!
That’s just gorgeous Chris. Nice one buddy. Looking forward to the maiden. They fly so nice you’re gonna love it.
Thanks 👍
Excellent. I like the zinc chromate touch. That's how it was. Great detail!
Thank you!

Epic stuff Chris, she looks fabulous. 👍🏻
Thanks so much!
Wow, that is amazing, nice job!!
Thank you very much!
That's beautiful. Just got back into flying edfs. Also build models. It's like the best of both worlds. Great work sir
Right on, thank you!
Looks awesome!!!! Still impressed how your paint doesn't lift off the EPO. Might have to try the whole base up thing.
One snazzy looking T33
Thanks!
This bird is beautiful...lets fly those colors.
Yassss! Now just waiting for decent weather to get her flown in full navy dress. 😊

Yeah, she does great work
Fantastic build and detail work 👌 great shirt 🤘
Thanks a lot!

Chris another Great job on the t33
Thank you!
Absolutely gorgeous paint work.
Thank you very much!
Fantastic!

Good to know
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Great video
Glad it was helpful!
It is really looking sharp ! I hope you have a rock solid radio for it.
Yep
For the Nose layout it might help if you put a temp grid on the nose so you have some reference points for the curve to be compared too.
I did make a nose template and you can kind of see it as I was taping. Even still, needed some tweaking to get it to look symmetrical from the front. That was the hardest part.
Gorgeous ! Make it 1- 1/2 time bigger and I want one !
Would love to see a bigger one too.
Wow, awesome
Thank you! Cheers!
Wow, very nice!
Thank you!
@@Thercgeek I would love to paint a model and weather it like you did. One day lol
You can do it!
Rattle can magic!
Piece of art👍…amazing finish 👏 cheers from Munich, Sven🍺
Thank you! Cheers!

@TheRCGeek siiccckkkkkkk! Nice work!
Thanks dude!
Any problems with the operation of the servos and arms after being sprayed with multiple layers of paint and enough?
Nope, never had an issue with it.
Another great vid Chris. Amazing all that masking didn’t pull paint from the EPO foam. Is that due to using wbpu to treat the foam before primer?
Thanks! While the poly and primer does help stabilize things, it’s really more about the frog tape and cutting it down into smaller strips and de-tacking it before application. And then, ensuring it’s peels back over itself when lifting it up.
Looks awesome. Wish you could do my RBC kits T33 90mm that BDTENNESSEE you tube has been flying
Looks great! How much weight was added by the paint?
Thanks! Never weighed it, so can’t say. My experience has been that the models fly better after a full refinish like this despite any weight gain. So, don’t really worry about it truthfully.
will you review the 64mm f14 from freewing?
Not a traditional review, no. If I do anything it’ll be a refinish series, but I don’t have that model at the moment and no plans to get one for the foreseeable future.
What pain use?
It’s in the video. 😉 I talk about everything that was done starting at about the 9:50 mark.
Re Rustoleum white not hardening properly. I've experienced the same thing. I'd love to know why it happened.
Yeah, I’m not sure why it did what it did, but it did ultimately dry up fine. Just took a long time to do so.
Are all of the graphics done by Callie? I saw most already had a sticky backing, but the stars were water slide? thanks
They are. For the stars and bars, I pulled the transfer tape up before applying them, sprayed windex on the surface and then applied them that way. The windex helps them to act like water slides and gives more time for placement. When happy with the placement, you press out the windex from underneath and let it evaporate out.
