love the engine sound at idle - sounds so scale - kind of like a 60s muscle car with a hemi - I was there when Chris made this test. It sounds even better in person.
Great job Chris with the assembly! Allot of meticulous work detail has gone into getting the T-28 Trojan ready for its maiden flight. The engine does sound amazing, just the compliment this warbird deserves. I look forward to seeing this big bird fly.
I flew T-28s in the Navy. So cool to see this beautiful model go together and sound so close to the real thing! Thanks for sharing. (loved that rhythmic BG groove, too.
Cool plane and such hard work for the realism!! IMO, you should have chosen a 5-cylinder engine.. That would of just been the cherry on top right there!!
Things bad ass. I'm so ready to graduate from foam to balsa. Slowly of course. I got a few balsa birds purchased second hand, but they are 20 years old. My newest is the Navy Piper Cub from motion that i chose to run electric but i want something like this gas powered that i can really love. Nice Work!
What an incredible amount of work on an amazing looking, sounding and apparently taxiing Trojan 😊 Can't wait to see her in flight. Then, settling on her mains right before those brakes are engaged. Wow! The 3 blade prop will be the Coup de gras! Im partial to the lower diameter of 3 blades. And they just look cool. And that exhaust!! Holy crap! Hope that setup holds up. Looks fantastic, Chris! 👍
You are moving up! I cannot wait to progress onto big 4-stroke petrol engines... a 1/4 scale Bates Tempest V is my dream... Foamies for now though - young kids and shift work :(
Wow that radial sounds amazing dude. plus the overall look of the kite is amazing. this is a hobby ive only recently got into and on my second build from a kit. my 1st was a dancing wings stick kit and i was really happy with it so went on a larger one as it should be alot better to build from size difference. its from watching people like yourselves that has made me take the plungle and get into it myself. Once again your plane sounds amazing really hope first flights go well and Enjoy dude. peace out and stay sunny side up. From me and my dog Max over in the East coast of the UK. 🙂
I know you said that you checked temps, but have you used a tac to see the rpm's? I would check the gas lines for air bubbles too. Also, if you dont have any, i would get you some feeler gauges to check the valve clearances. What a dream build!! She sounds AMAAAAAAZING!!!!!
OMG that radial sounds good. I have a P47 with a single DLE in it and I do wish I could have installed a radial. Too much $ at the time. I also have T28 in that size, the Carbon Z version. I love how the T28 flies. Your's is such a clean build, has me drooling so much I need a bib, LOL GREAT JOB CHRIS!!
Great vid Chris. Got to have some wet fuel planes in the que.....before they outlaw them😮. Could see that happen in cali the way things are going. Cant wait to see it fly .
Can you bring my Pet Prairie Dog Gus for a ride in your T-28? Gus doesn't trust my flying, yet. But I can tell he wants to fly so bad. I have a parachute for him that automatically triggers. When is a good day for you?
How much did you have to turn down the endpoints on the throttle channel due to that long servo arm? Looks like about 50 or 60 percent from here. Servos should rotate ±40° at ±100%. I offset the servo arm one tooth toward the idle side to make the idle speed setting less sensitive.. 😎
If you are using nyloc nuts on the bolt that holds the exhaust elbow on the end of the flex exhaust I would think the plastic insert would melt out and the bolt come loose?
The challenge with the ring exhausts is that they go around in a complete circle and exhaust out the bottom which in this case is where the nose gear is. This would require a custom exhaust to get it where it needs to exit for the scale location.
I have that same engine on a Great Planes Giant Big Stick XL. Just curious and I know this is probably a silly question but, where did you get the wood template for the mounting holes for the Saito? Did you make it or is it available for purchase? Also, just FYI, there is a German company that makes an exhaust ring for that engine and it sounds awesome.
The wood template came in the kit. When I changed out the intake, I placed the mount against it to plot out the holes. They were close to some guides that were already there.
Love your videos Chris. I just put this engine on my Topflite P47 which I ran electric for several years. Got it from Morris with his mods. Runs great, flys awesome. How often do you add oil to the crank?
Do they make it so that the ignition wires can be touching or near the exhaust piping? I can see it’s pretty tight in there! Great work as usual I can’t wait to see it fly!
Get a Futaba radio before you buy and lose another plane. Always remember one thing in radios for flying rc airplanes when your buying a radio Quality is remember well after the price. I've been flying for 65 years rc never had radio problems. Turn that Spectrum into a door stop.
Now that is one nice flying machine, Sounds great although a Pain to setup and install but worth it in the long run just for that sound. She is surely a beauty to look at. Good luck on the Maiden not like ya need it. Be well Fly lots. ;0}
At time stamp 10:00 where is your fire extinguisher? It's not a thing until it is! That should at least be part of the realism to save that $$ expensive project.

sounds unbelievable! The exhaust he built adds to the realism.
Chris that motor sounds amazing and it should pull that plane around like a kite. You are an inspiration Sir!
Wow, thanks!
That thing is completely bad ass. Masterclass, Chris.

I've flown in two "B" models, great aircraft.
Have same motor and prop. Absolutely love it mate! saito winning ❤
wow that sounds amazing. Great looking plane also.
!!!OH THAT ENGINE SOUND!!!
Nice.
I know, right?
Looks and sounds incredible. I’m sure it’s a sight to behold!
Cool plane and such hard work for the realism!! IMO, you should have chosen a 5-cylinder engine.. That would of just been the cherry on top right there!!
Good Job Chris!!! Sounds and looks great!
Thanks!
A great installment of this T-28 build up, Chris. Love the exhaust!!! Good stuff bro, AirHammer out!!
Thanks man!
Looks and sounds great Chris!!

You’ll like it. The thing with balsa is it’s more structurally rigid, so it just flies better.
@@Thercgeek Very well said 👍
Chris, awesome job, especially with the exhaust, can't wait to see it flying.
Thanks 👍

A LOT of attention to detail ! Really looking & sounding good.
Thanks!
Great build, awesome looking model and very useful video Chris! Thank you, Fotios, Greece
Many thanks!
Chris brilliant build. Looking great...and sounds great!
Thanks!
Chris, Awesome job! the engine/exhaust sounds amazing. Looking forward to first flight....
Thank you!
Love the exhaust.. totally trick.. and the whole system makes the end sound.....
Love the video! Especially the step by step on install thank you 🙏🏻
Glad it was helpful!
Amazing Bird and awesome sounding engine. Thanks for sharing. ✨👍
Many thanks!
Looks and sounds awesome!!
awesome job Chris
Thank you! Cheers!

Thanks so much! Love to hear about the builds, that’s fantastic!
Top flight operations!
Great sounding plane - I applaud your testicular fortitude to take a $4K+ craft on its maiden flight.

Thanks for the suggestions! I have a tach on the airframe as well as a temp sensor sending temps via telemetry.
@@Thercgeek wow you really are a rc geek lol. Do they make an electric start for the motor?
Chris use heat gun on old hub when pulling it, small amount of heat makes it expand and jump off easily

No safety wire on that tygon? Bad idea.
hey, what ever happened to that AT6 you got from Scaledynamics? did I miss a video?
It sounds great!

😆
U got a new sub for this one man. That thing is awesome! I can't wait to see u fly it
@michaelmitchell5909 thanks so much!
Looks awesome! I asked on FB but we’re is the after market intake from for the FG-60? I have one that needs a home, thinking about the T-28.
I mentioned in the video specifically. I got it from Morris Mini Motors in the UK.
To start it easily, pressurise the fuel tank vent line, it will send fuel to the carby, a few flicks and off she goes.
Thanks for the tip!

Chris excellent build luv the motor are you going to paint the plywood around the motor good video 😊😊😊👍👍👍
Oh man, you know you wanted to to just fly it 😂. You are more disciplined than me
😆

Definitely something to keep an eye on over time.
@8:24 split the primaries to go to both sides. Should work. Should be really easy too. It has good wompa-wompa idle sounds.
Yeah, I considered doing that also, but opted to just go all to the one side.
Not a warbird person but that should be a great plane t28 fly great
Chris, You can still get a Keleo ring exhaust. Did you reach out to the new owner? Anyway a ring and pipes on both sides would be cool.
The challenge with the ring exhausts is that they go around in a complete circle and exhaust out the bottom which in this case is where the nose gear is. This would require a custom exhaust to get it where it needs to exit for the scale location.
@@Thercgeek That's what I mean. Have him weld the pipes onto the ring in the scale location.

I usually put foam under my gas tank and ignition, plus around my receiver battery and ignition battery
Grate Job
Thanks!
Sad that we have to fix a design issue with the fg-60r3 before we even begin a breakin process. Just got done doing that myself.
Sounds great
Amazing
Sounds like an absolute beast! Very scale. Will you open up the air intakes on the cowl?
I may, just haven’t gotten there yet
Fitz installed one of the Saito engines on his Bearcat!
I saw that! 😊
Love your videos Chris. I just put this engine on my Topflite P47 which I ran electric for several years. Got it from Morris with his mods. Runs great, flys awesome. How often do you add oil to the crank?
Nice! The oil in the crank is only recommended for the first run.
Where did you get the intake upgrade from?
Came from Morris’ Mini Motors in the UK
Do they make it so that the ignition wires can be touching or near the exhaust piping? I can see it’s pretty tight in there! Great work as usual I can’t wait to see it fly!
The ignition wires are shielded, but I’ve got those as separated as I can just to be sure.

About when do you think that you'll fly it?
First flight vid should be coming soon

Cowl could double as a popcorn bucket
😆
I bet your neighbors don't think it sounds amazing. That engine would be awesome installed in a B-29 model.
I got quite a few looks while running it. 😆
Welcher Hersteller ist die T28.😁😄
To bad the plane didn't make it on it's first flight. I hope you was able to save the motor.
Where is your spinner hub from?
It came from legend hobby
I am surprised they still use the same clunky fuel tank system as I did when I started flying models 30 years ago. :P
Why change what works? 😆

great vid i have do gasser one day
You should! It’s definitely a completely different experience.

It sure sounds pretty good
Please use a paint roller to start the engine xd
Could have been more interesting if you talked about each step rather than play music.
I do at about the 13:45 mark. 😉
Just thin out the epoxy with 99% isopropyl alcohol to make wetting out fibers easier.
Very true
I like the plane but you know what I don't like 😅😂
Indeed…
Paint your engine baffle black
