This might be quite a long time ago, but just curious: how did your stingray came out? Would it change a lot to use such a light weight yarn? (I'm planning to make one myself soon ♡)
I did this pattern with super chunky plush yarn as a present for my friend who loves stingrays!! Love it!! Definitely going to pass this on to the crochet club I’m in :)
What size crochet hook did you use with the super chunky yarn? I bought Hobby Lobby’s Eternal Bliss and it is impossible to get the 8 mm hook into it to crochet. TIA

I love this design! I used a different type and size yarn and hook because it's all I had and it's so teeny, fits in the palm of my hand! I finished it and then had an idea, it worked! if you do the exact same steps as you do to make the tail on each corner of the head but only chain 3 it becomes a Manta Ray! Now I've got ideas on how to change a few parts of the pattern on the wings and or nose I think I could make it look like a southern ray, a cownose ray, and a spotted eagle ray hehe I love the original design as a cute sort of unspecified species of ray and Im going to be making a ton more in pretty colors but I think I'm also going to test my alterations with the colors the rays are in real life. I have crocheted for 45 years and have never heard of anyone turning after a chain row. Other than that your pattern is easy peasy to follow and turned out as cute as can be!!
So I just started to learn crocheting (about 5 days ago) and I am almost done with my ray. I made my ray a big bigger (eyeballed the rows) and used felt yarn. To crochet both sides together i had to switch from an 8 mm hook to a smaller version (i used 3 mm cause thats the obly other one I have but 5mm should be enough). But your video was soooo helpful, thanks to you I can proudly say that I can crochet the basics (:

Honestly one of my favourite tutorials! It's my first time ever making an amigurumi, and this pattern was really easy to follow! I have made two small stingrays, the only downside is i don't have the right yarn for it, but I'm still happy with how it turned out (even if they're a bit stiff)!
