Well done guys, probably one of the best kayak fishing videos I've seen Alan...especially watching Russell fighting with that kingfish on the passport 12 was amazing to watch... 10 out of 10 from me 👍
Just come prepared for freshwater as well. I'm a local and when conditions are rough I can usually find a protected spot in one of the rivers or estuaries. Fitzroy river, Yambuk, Narrawong or even Nelson and the Glenelg.
That was like watching a movie mate. Had highs, lows and a great storyline. My heart was racing just watching Russ tackle those kings. Certainly got me thinking of driving there!
Thanks Darren, I'm really Glad you enjoyed it. Its always great to share the successes and the failures, to tell a good story and to show that the show is relatable to all others our there. Im really glad ya enjoyed it and 100% can see a trip of us heading up there soon. Imagine if we had some live bait
Thank you Alfred, I will, it was an amazing experience despite some hiccups. Ill be back soon 100% and appreciate you watching and commenting. Have a great evening.
Thanks so much Blake. So much time and effort goes into these videos every week, so i really appreciate your kind words. Thanks for watching and supporting. Really appreciated !!
Hi Alan what a great place is that, very fishy .I feel sorry for you couldn't even try for the kingfish because the double broken down what a pity. At least you had some good action on other fish. See you to the next adventure and good luck 👍 😃🤗🤗❤🤙🤙
Absolutely brilliant. What an exciting video to watch certainly had my heart pumping and listening to that drag scream as the kingie pulled like a train wow 😮 No need to feel disappointed……… a truly unforgettable experience 👍
Awesome Vlog Alan, some great action on the light gear with the Travs. I can sympathise with you mate , the anticipation before a trip like that, getting all the right gear , hardly any sleep the night before I reckon to. But you were out there mate giving it a good go any other day and you be hooking up to a king , you’ll be back out there better and stronger next time . 👊
Gday Alan awsome vid you are verry informative in all your Vids would love to have a kayak like yours and fish like you do well done great video keep up the good work
Great video and wow the power of them trevs but shit couldn’t believe your luck with the drive and steering going just think Allan there is always gunna be another day and another adventure
Thanks so much Tony, yeah it was very bad timing but i was really thankful for such a cool adventure. Ill get some repairs done and no doubt head back really soon as the fishing was quite amazing and so close to shore. Also gave me a great chance to collect some awesome info and marks for members
Yeah they are amazing, the initial runs they go on is crazy. Really makes the reel scream. Just good to know there are spots reachable for yaks of fish of this quality
Thanks Russell, it was an amazing experience, to be able to target kings and tuna on a kayak is mind blowing. Your so lucky to live so close to that epic location. I hope otehrs on this channel follow your fishing adventures and no doubt ill be back very soon once my kayak is back on the water
Hi Allan Great video just bought my first kayak passport 12 like Russell’s Want to head up to that area when I get some experience Been following you and meet you in Altona what month was that
Hi Robert, I hope you are very well. Congrats on the kayak purchase, hope to see you out there. The kingfish fire up in the warmer months so this would have been in summer. ill be back up there in Jan/Feb in 2023
Well done Alan. I really enjoyed it. Next time tie the plastic lure well, because another kingfish or tuna can bite your line and you will lose your fish....well done.
Very good Vid with some nice fish! When I was getting myself and new cheapish rod I got a Daiwa D shock Combo which had a 2000 size reel so when I fish of peirs and get doesn’t leave me with much line for when I’m fishing at the beach. Any tips for me?!
Hi Isaac, thanks for watching. Yeah that D shock combo will be great for lots of fishing applications but prob a tad small for the beach. The 2000 spool will only fit about 150 meters of 6-8lb braid at best so if your trying to get big casts it will struggle, you may need to also grab yourself a bigger outfit. At least a 4000+ size reel. All depends where your fishing and what your targeting, I have some light beach outfits and some heavy beach outfits for the surf. Let us know what your targeting and ill see if i can help further.
@@crazysithslave Try the abalone farm for shore based, its just a couple of kms up the road and you can get some sandy water on the edge of the weed. Good for whiting, trevally and pinkies. 5 minutes from my home.
I like your video mate I live in Portland and are starting to do a bit of kayak fishing with my mates just wondering what lure caught the trevally and which one caught the kingfish I'm interested to hear about what your rig setup was to
Hi Alan. Just heard you say that Travalley had parasites that lived in their mouths. I was told that Schnapper had a parasite that lived in its mouth and upon their death; the parasites flowed out. Please tell me, it it the Travalley or Schnapper or both that has the parasite in their mouth. Cheers mate
Hobe PA kayaks are amazing, it was just the rope that controls the rudder which broke and a pin which separated from the mirage drive. I've had the PA14 for 6 years and these are the onlky issues ive run into and was a quick and easy fix
I own a Hobie PA14, you really need to pick your weather days and only go out with low winds and swells. Its a very stable yak but knowing when to go is critical
Crackin sesh there Alan! hardly disappointing imo. Having hooked, fought and not being able to land decent kings, I can somehow relate to your pain. Any ideas what caused the mishap to your rudder ?
Thanks Matthew, yeah not 100% sure with the steering it just went without any signs of wear and tear or warning, the mirage cable and chain did have some signs of wear and tear but all at once was a real shame. Im keen to see how the repairs go on the steering for next time
What a shame Alan, all that way and that happens. Luckily you weren't out a fair way. Know what you mean about some boaties, a few of them are selfish and disrespectful, I'm a boatie myself but I'm always respectful to other fishermen, don't care what they're in. You caught some good fish there. I imagine you'll be back there one day.
Thanks John, yeah it was a real shame but an awesome experience and ill no doubt head back there at some stage. I agree exactly with what you said I won a boat and a kayak and always so respectful of others on the water, always giving room, advice and done several rescues. So many others do not care, i was staggered at some well known charter operators the pretty much drove over the top of me, and they saw me clearly they just have no respect for others on the water, which is such a shame
Well done mate... great vid.. But sad to say not a real lot of respect anywhere these days not just on the water.. I'd givem an ear full.. a fist full too if they want it... all a big joke until someone get killed
Yeah, i was shattered, just as it was firing up. Missed out on getting amongst the kings, but ill get some repairs and go back. Enjoy Bemm river its one of my favourite fishing destinations in all of Vic, the volume of beautiful bream there is amazing. let us know how you go, hopefully you get some good weather
Fat cats on the kayak’s you know…. Land based anglers don’t be discouraged, I will guide you guys through. Alan is good for that as well but as of late he’s taken the fat cat ways out being boat/kayak..
Well done guys, probably one of the best kayak fishing videos I've seen Alan...especially watching Russell fighting with that kingfish on the passport 12 was amazing to watch... 10 out of 10 from me 👍
Thanks 👍 very much Anthony !!
Bloody brilliant mate, absolutely smashed it! Those kingies have some go in them 😎
Thanks 👍 Yeah was epic place and some amazing fish, cant wait to head back there soon.
Nice video Alan. You caught some nice Trevally. Shame about the YAK breaking down. Safer to head back to shore than tangle with all those boats.
Big Russ for the win. Love your work Adam = Your hooked on Portland now
Yep Russ was a star on this trip, great bloke too. Yep 100% loved Portland and will be back.
Yeh, great stuff. Trouble with Portland is the weather is so unpredictable. Weather sounds great, drive 4hrs and weather is not as predicted.
Yep thats 100% true, I was really worried about that but was lucky

Fishing in a yak out from Portland just when I think I’ve seen it all amazing vid
Nice Kings landed...those Trevs go hard hey...what do those boaties think they own the sea...good vic...keep them coming...Cheers.

Awesome video Alan! Portland looks like such a great all round fishing destination! Keep the fantastic videos coming! 🤙🤙

mate I will be happy catching a fish the size of the bait using
At least it wasn't a donut day, Alan! I hope you get the kingy soon.
Can you fish straight from the shore also? Looks magical there
Yes, the Trevally we caught were only 50 meters from shore, so a surf rod should be able to do that no problems
@@fishingmad cheers mate, I have a couple of weeks off coming up, think I might make the long drive over there 👍

I like your video mate I live in Portland and are starting to do a bit of kayak fishing with my mates just wondering what lure caught the trevally and which one caught the kingfish I'm interested to hear about what your rig setup was to
4 inch turtleback worms for the trevally, 9 inch pre rigged slugo and 9 inch daiwa bait junkie jerk shads for the kings
Cheers mate it's appreciated just waiting for that easterly to stop blowing to get out there and have a go
Could I please ask what jig head you were using
for turtleback 1/8 3/0 and for the 9 inch plastic 1/4 7/0 cheers
Fun session, but wheres the kingys mate? Good excuse to go back

Hi Angus, Ive only seen this with Trevally. Nearly every trevally ive caught locally.
@@fishingmad Wow. Many thanks Alan. Very appreciated!
Good vid, atleast you got out mate.
Thanks !! yeah 100%
@@fishingmad 👍🏼
I’m from Portland wondering what lures you were using
What is the white rod you caught the first trevally on?
Its a custom rod I had made up with the FishingMad logo on it. Its 3-7 kg, 6 foot 10 medium action. Bit of an allrounder
What was the issue with the yak. I was thinking about getting one similar
Hobe PA kayaks are amazing, it was just the rope that controls the rudder which broke and a pin which separated from the mirage drive. I've had the PA14 for 6 years and these are the onlky issues ive run into and was a quick and easy fix
Hey man what net is that, looks perfect for what I need it for
Amazingly video again Alan. So lucky to be a Victorian. Lol. Love it.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks David !!
Hey Mate, what fish sounder is that and how did you wire it if you don’t mind me asking?
Lowrance Elite Ti2 its a great sounder, its powered with a FPV waterproof battery which sites in the front hatch with no cables exposed
what kayak and accessories are you using?
i live in porto but i don't want to accidentally kill myself out in our deep, treacherous waters.
I own a Hobie PA14, you really need to pick your weather days and only go out with low winds and swells. Its a very stable yak but knowing when to go is critical
@@fishingmad thanks man
Hi! What was the drift speed out there with the kingfish?
between 3 and 4 knots. Hope that helps
The best friend
Hi Alan. I'm a bit late for this one but I need to ask if there is a slight issue of conflict between kayak fishers and some boaties.
Hey mate What line weight do you use for your 3-6kg rod?
20lb Daiwa Saltiga 12 which is a super thin diameter, otherwise 15 lb of something a bit cheaper like Daiwa J-Braid grand.
What hobie passport was it
