Unlike tabletop, in mind of videogame player Imperial guard is heavy mechanized force on brink of becoming fully armored if not for the pesky limitations 😅
@jurajsintaj6644 in lore? Yes. Not so much on tabletop which runs on point system. And videogames prefer "population efficient units" over "cost efficient/trash" units. So the heavier and more advanced, the better for the player. As a result while other factions in Dawn of War play Company of Heroes, Imperial Guard plays a combination of Terran from Starcraft and GDI from Command&Conquer. You start with infantry in bunkers, switch to IFVs and heavy weapons teams that slowly encroah on the enemy together and then finally switch to all armor focus for late game, mostly producing only Leman Russ and Basilisk while converting all infantry limit into heavy infantry with plasma. When Dark Crusade introduced extra unit limits, little changed for the guard. You just don't produce extra Karskin anymore, instead using infantry space for heavy weapons.

I was actually working on a "No Limit Mod" adaptation of a popular mod for Dark Crusade and soulstorm: Ultimate Apocalypse. Basically my adaptation would allow the player (and AI) to make as many of whatever they wanted as they wanted, sadly my PC died and I lost ALL of my files and most of my backups (latest one is from nearly 4 months ago...), I can restart my work but I am REALLY demoralized after losing all my work once before...
TL;DR Yes, I have 1000 hours in this game. No, I do not know what grass is. Ok dawn of war lesson 101. Units are either ranged or melee. If a ranged units is in melee, retreat and kite with it (unless you are the Imperial guard in which case you want to cycle units in melee). If you are melee go after the ranged units, their entire purpose is to deny range units the ability to hold a position. Units/turrets also have a type preference/specialization: Anti infantry or Anti Vehicle/building. Example: Immortals and upgraded gauss turrets are anti vehicles /buildings. If the unit description says Anti-infantry, it's not just a suggestion. Yes the damage value of an immortal is way bigger than Necron warriors. Immortals will still lose any fights against Guardsmen while Necron warriors will not. Do not upgrade all your turrrets. You want a mix. For equipable weapons, they also each have a speciality. However do not mix different weapons within a unit. For example: Guardsmen have plasma gun and grenade launchers. Grenade launchers have much higher ranges than plasma weapons. If you give a unit an attack order, it will move until 1 member of its unit is in range to fire. Meaning if you equip 1 grenade launchers and 4 plasma gun. That unit will most likely have only a single guardsmen firing while the rest will be twiddling their thumbs. As for unrequested campaign advice your first priority if you play any race other than the Eldar is to capture the Demes Northlands province a soon as possible. If you wait until late game, with certain races it becomes almost impossible to take and it is the only province you can attack the Eldar Stronghold from. Meaning you softlocked your campaign. Next up in late game, provinces start with two computer opponent each having their own bases. Let's call them "main" and "secondary" bases (main being the location of the computer already present in early game, secondary being the one added). Go after the "secondary" enemy computer first. It starts with a bigger army and a more advanced base. Also 95% of the time (depending on the map). The secondary base is closer to yours than the main. Finally, warning the AI cheats when it attacks you. It will start the match with a decent army and teched up base. Especially in the late game, the Secondary base as mentionned before having the best one.
This game deserves so much more attention, i'm kind of hoping they make a remake considering the success of space marine 2. They wont, but a man can dream damn it

The realization of the base principle of the Astra militarum 😂😂😂
They wont, but a man can dream damn it
"Every ork building has a turret". Well ya, more dakka is always needed
Kleaper, get the Soulstorm Expansion and get the unification mod!!! Expands the games 100x and adds a bunch of cool stuff!!!
Don’t worry, humanity is (effectively) scaven in 40k
The FOR THE EMPEROR message that was in binary was pretty cool dude.
I highly recommend checking out the Unification mod for Soulstorm. It’s still in production at the moment, but it’s already updated the vanilla factions and adds so many goddamn modded factions. Last I checked there was somewhere around 25 factions at the moment, and some leaked audio implies they may be going up to 60.
The Imperial guard can garrison in their own buildings in order to not only fast travel but also man weapon inside that are objectively better than an guards men, the more units garrisoned inside the HQ the more weapons come online. Pretty useful for defense.
Nearly 20 years later and I still play this over and over.
You should seriously consider playing the Titanium Wars mod. Play imperial guard and embrace the indomitable human spirit in its fullest might.
I had no idea this was your second channel until now, you're telling me I have 95 more videos that I can watch? happy days
The factions and their playstyle
Imperial guard: WW2 Soviet union" THROW BODIES AT THE PROBLEM" Mixed with very strong vehichles
ORKS: DAKADAKADAKA ( throw bodies nad guns at issue)
Tau: Long range combat with some powerful supporting fire units
Spacemarines: Melee units to bog the enemy down and versitile ranged units to chew up enemy
Chaos marines: Same as space marines only now have demons and stealth shit
eldar: glass cannon
Necron: Slow irresistable marks of metallic death across the battlefield
There is no scaven… my brother in the emperor, we are the scaven
Damn I wish there was more 40k rts games
You could probably turn the tabletop game into an rts.
But that would take away Games workshop primary income.
"...One of the things that makes me kinda sad in 40K is that there isn't really a Skaven, but honestly, I think humanity is the Skaven faction."
He begins to look-see the true-true! Yes yes!
Nothing like getting rows of imperial guards with the earth shaker cannons making quick work of anything

Priest: I requisitioned a weapon from your armory. There were only a couple of shovels and this chainsaw. Truly a shameful display.
Guardsman: I think you actually raided the groundskeeper's toolshed...
Priest: Well I like the heft of the chainsaw and the way the whine of its teeth drowns out the enemy's pleas for mercy so I'm keeping it.
You should play Dawn of War Soulstorm with the Crucible mod, it's really awesome and it's an updated version of the Ultimate Apocalypse mod. Basically just bigger and better of everything from the base game with additional factions.
Did the 1st match bug?
I couldnt see any of the orks. Did it not render right?
Can’t believe he turn into an average RTS gamer. Ori
You can't just sneak soda Popinsky's theme in there and think I don't hear it
