I have an Amazon Echo, and I’ll be getting a HomePod mini around Black Friday hoping it’ll go on sale. I’d rather have one company listening to me and I definitely trust Apple a lot more with privacy
You won’t be able to use Spotify with HomePod mini, that’s the only problem
@@gullgit6429 Why use Spotify if one is deep enough into Apple ecosystem to consider HomePod? Spotify Mac app is painful, watch app doesn't work on cellular, iPhone integration is lacking (and impossible because Apple), isn't optimized for AirPods, and it doesn't work with Siri directly.
@@gullgit6429 not a problem to me. I’ve never tried Spotify.
@@gullgit6429 you can use Spotify but most functions won’t work like “hey Siri, change song”
@@gullgit6429 You can actually ask Siri to play a playlist on Spotify but just that, just tried it on iPad since it’s the only place where I can use it as a normal app without the premium version
Been looking for a solution for bedroom audio since my old amp tanked. This is perfect :)
2160p quality video. Wow. Amazing ! 👏🏼
So looking forward to this as well. The integration with my Apple Ecosystem only makes sense, it will finally help me get rid of going between Siri and Google within my home.
Can I easily use my Sirius XM with either of the homepods? I have the app for my phone but I wasn’t sure if it will easily stream to the homepods.
HomePod Mini is great. It fills a need in the Apple ecosystem. I also think it’ll sell people on the original HomePod. They’ll want the bigger one for the living room once they experience the better sound experience. I have 2 HomePods and love them. Now I need a couple of Mini’s so I can set up my original HomePods as a stereo setup in the living room.
that won't work, they only communicate with the same model. so just mini with mini and the original with the original. which is a huge downside.
@@shorty0303 it works with either pattern regular with mini and mini with mini etc the syncing is amazing!
appleinsider.com/articles/20/10/13/you-cant-create-a-stereo-pair-with-homepod-and-homepod-mini-but-home-theater-support-coming-soon
@@shorty0303 I said use two original HomePods in a pair. Not pair a mini with an original.
@@shorty0303 I don’t know why you’d want to pair a mini with an original as a stereo pair. 🤷🏻♂️ I’m thinking have a stereo pair of originals for the living room and then have minis in the other rooms, which will work.
😂😂😂 every time he changes from his 2 camera set up!
I'm curious to see how it sounds compared to the HomePod, and it'll be nice to have in the bedroom with my HomePod out in the living room.
Nice review/preview, sure will get one.👍🏻 But you also made me want to a Marshall Emberton at the same time😅👍🏻☝🏻
Just preordered mine last night
Im definitely getting some.
The price and size is great. Would love surround sound to fit a home theatre.
It can be paired in stereo.
@@cesarbattistini I am aware of that was just thinking how the AirPods have spacial audio and that somehow using the same tech could make the speakers work as surround sound for a home theatre.
Very excited!! Preordering two ASAP. I’m more excited for the sound quality bump from the google smart home ecosystem I have currently. But since the rest of my home is tucked away within the “walled garden” I’m excited for the integration and the features these bring.
wow you decided fast, just preordered mine today (the last day for pre-ordering) last minute because i was scared to order it later and have it be out of stock, it would be nice if i could get it soon. having that security of a set aside homepod mini just for me feels nice so i know i’m definitely getting one
Curious how it compares to my JBL LINK MUSIC. It’s a 2.5” speaker with 2 passive radiators and has airplay 2 so it is in sync with my 2 HomePods when playing music. I need one more so eyeing the mini for my office but not expecting HomePod sound.
Yes you should I’m gonna get like two of them because you can’t beat that price especially if the audio quality is just like the regular HomePod
It won’t be just like the original HomePod. It will however sound much better than the Echo dot. It’s probably more comparable to the full sized Echo, which the HomePod mini will still probably sound better than that.
@@SirS2pendous cool
@@SirS2pendous I won’t say much better just slightly, the echo dot now has a directional speaker vs mini 360, which means bigger boost and clarity at the cos too 360 sound, which isn’t bad since most people put theirs by a wall for the power cord. Another thing to note is the echo not the dot is the same price as the mini but comes with more speakers and again directional sound . Now the HomePod for $299 is a beast for sound quality but there are other speakers that give you a better bang for your buck and does include Alexa
@@kohfu1724 no, the dot is $50. The full size echo is $100. I think that’s the one you mean. I’m saying it’s more comparable to the $100 echo and will sound much better than the smaller $50 echo dot.
@@SirS2pendous it’s a bit of a mess but I did state them clearly, the HomePod mini size wise is about the same size as the Echo dot, the speaker is about the same size as well 2 2mm (1.6 in the echo dot) drivers now pushing out sound in all directions. The echo dot has 2 1.6mm drivers pushing sound in a bi directional pattern(not this is based off the information given to us from the manufacturer, we won’t know until the devices actually release in October/November) and I think that’s the big issue here, the price is double but you aren’t getting double in terms of value , and when you compare it to the Echo(not the echo dot) I doubt it will be able to hold up soundwise.
I think Apple has made a huge step in the right direction if they want to get into the home automation business as they have a huge advantage over Amazon and Google. Majority of new smart TVs are starting to carry airplay, the handoff feature sounds amazing and way better than having to go to setting on your phone. The automatic pairing in studio is great, but the most underrated feature is being able to use your phone, iPad or Mac(possible the watch) when it’s locked or you’re using it since it recognizes your voice(probably the best voice recognition at the moment) but if you have a normal sized house or larger it will become real expensive to create a fully autonomous house. Apple system is great and could be number one however Apple has its way of limiting it self when they shouldn’t. For example you can only use Apple apps for hand off, so sorry podcast, Spotify, tidal, audiobooks, UA-cam users, you won’t be able to use the handoff features for these apps at this moment. Can be updated later however. Also if you like to save money and go with cheaper alternatives goos look staying with Apple, they usually only support high end smart home devices, so you’ll have to get a premium, meanwhile Alex supports 10k+ devices Apple supports about 1/10th of that...you add on the fact that the speakers start at $100 a piece and if you are an audiophile they will be $300 each. Now that doesn’t sound too expensive especially when new iPhones already cost $1000 and Apple will let you make monthly payments until you bring the competition in. These are the only speakers available for Apple home automation, you don’t have other options ... and if you aren’t looking for sound quality but just plain usability to control smart devices, well you’re out of luck there’s nothing cheaper. Versus the $50 for an echo dot (about $20-$30 for a 3rd generation now). There’s not a Show version available, which is unfortunate because it would be the perfect device. FaceTime is arguably the most used video chat app for personal use, and having a device in the kitchen or a common area you can use, especially one that follows you around like the new echo show is pretty huge, a missed opportunity. The show gives you that visual aspect and i recommend it for any house with Alexa/home automation especially if you have cameras...
To sum it up, if you want to have your whole house decked out with a smart speaker and other devices my vote goes to google or Alexa. Apple is getting there but not quite there yet. The value aspect is pretty high for the limited capabilities and almost everything it can do the other smart home features can do as well, short of the things mentioned above. Now if you are heavily invested into the Apple ecosystem, or you have a smaller house and don’t want to go full automation just yet, then Apple will be perfect. You can deck out a small house for $1000 or less which isn’t bad at all. And give it time Apple will continue to improve their products. My only downfall is Apple is missing out on valuable data to improve their products since it won’t collect data from most of its users. Data is the most important thing for AI, the more data it has the faster it grows, which is why google assistant and Alexa are better than Siri in performing everyday tasks even though Siri came first.
HomePod or HomePod Mini which one to buy ?? Given the Price is not a constraint.... is there any additional feature in HomePod mini that’s not available in the regular version
Will the new mini sync via blue tooth with my tv? Id love buy at least two in stereo
Comparing HomePod Mini to Marshall Emberton like yours, which one sounds better?
Am getting it for Christmas!!
i will take two and call you in the morning. Been waiting for a speaker hub solution.
I sold my of HomePod first a echo studio and kinda regret it. I really liked the HomePod but got the studio for the smarts but really have realized I only do basic stuff and listen to music. I will be buying 2 of these for the office and bedroom. Then maybe a normal again for the living room later on
Edit: I also sold it because it was having some issues
i bought one to pair with macbook m1. It has seriously audio delay and frequent issue with youtube (mute). this product seems to work well with iphone or ipad only.
Is it worth getting if your not using for music? And just for smart plugs and random stuff ?
I have the same question. I don’t care about the speaker, I just need to be able to access my smart devices remotely
Two question can HomePod connect to minis and how many can be connecting to each other wouldn’t mind buying a couple to have a little surround sound set up in bed room
I have to know what the sound quality will be compared to the previous version.
It won’t be as good as a HomePod simply because of the size, I’d like to know how it sounds compared to the new amazon echo though
@@BubbaMaraj7241 what
@@BubbaMaraj7241 r/ihadastroke
Going to be far less. It’s what, a pound? That’s not going to put out room filling sound like it’s larger brother does.
Definitely will buy it!
I used to have a HomePod and got tired of it not working when I told it to turn on and off lights. It would work for awhile then stopped working and says cant find anything like that
Aye nice, I didnt know that AppleInsider is from San Jo
I wanna see if the sound is as good as my echo plus that costs the same
Can you make and receive phone calls with the HomePod Mini if your iPhone does not have U1 chip (iPhone SE)?
This would be great if it had an option to go completely wireless or battery powered. I would buy it to replace my UE boom. Looks like it needs to stay plugged in though.
Can it be used as the main speaker for your Apple TV 4K
Hey. Thank you for your review. Is the sound good for a 700 square feet apartment? Just listen music. Not for big party. 👍
I want the HomePod but I could use that money for other cool things , the HomePod minis price you can’t beat it
I’m just as excited. I have a HomePod in the master and the kitchen. Bringing the kitchen one into the bedroom for a stereo pair that’s dedicated to the Apple TV. I’ll need a mini for the kitchen, and I love the intercom for the kids so 2 more there, another in the living room. Can you stereo pair them and use them for computer speakers? These are going to sell like there is no tomorrow.
Possible
Afmittedly( I don’t really like the design much, but it’s definitely a leap forward with the U1 and further confirms Apple’s commitment to the platform well into the future.
Does it allow tunein yet or even stream radio?
I just went in and Pre ordered 2 of them. The fact that it’s much cheaper than the OG HomePod to where even buying 2 for stereo pair is still cheaper than buying one OG Homepod. that it has way more improvements and features. So to me this was a no brainer
Hey! Thanks for the video!
Just out of curiosity,
I noticed that during the HomePod mini presentation, they didn’t show the regular HomePod not even a single time during the walkthrough Throughout the house. Do you think is is a way to let us know that they will likely it kill it soon?
I know sells were not the best for apple in terms of smart speaker and likely the price had to do a lot with that.
Thanks!
They are not killing it, since they’re adding a software update that gives it Dolby atmos.
@@NT-or9wh a software update that will give the HomePod Dolby Atmos? 🧐
They BETTER NOT i have two Homepods connected to My Apple TV but will have to get the Apple TV 4K to get the Dolby Atmos Feature SMDH
Does it support UA-cam music app? (Not casting from iPhone) - I have ytube music free - so not needing to buy Apple Music
when will it launch in Denmark?! :-(
I want it, but does it came to Sweden?
I just hope it means that Apple can start capturing a good portion of the speaker market and they will eventually introduce a HomePod Max that is bigger and superior to the original HomePod.
The original one is already pretty big
Can I use it as computer for my MBP?
I have one regular HomePod downstairs and one upstairs I will purchase two HomePod minis for my bedrooms.
Nice review....Price is the biggest point of sell
I have the larger HomePod and because it plays music at any time of day or night, without anyone telling it to, it spends most of the time switched off.
I want one but idk if it will work in my dorm :/
I have an Amazon Echo already, but I am considering getting the HomePod mini. As someone who owns other Apple products, would it be a good pick up?
I think I’ll be getting one around Black Friday since I do already have the Echo, and I wanna get a deal.. hopefully 🙏
Since all my other devices are Apple, I’ll be getting one. Id rather have one company listening to me, and I trust Apple a hell of a lot more than Amazon! 😂 so yes I would get one if I were you
@@elgeorge437 very good point. Thank you.
How about using the HomePod mini as a speaker for a MacBook Pro in desktop mode?
I’m pretty sure it works without desktop mode, i’ll try to find the reddit post i saw
Love it
What setting is that on your Apple Watch?
Does it have 7 tweeters as the original HomePod?
So does the HomePod Mini work without being being wired into an outlet? From the promotional images and videos, it seems as if it’s not plugged in.
AC power only
plugged in. but it’s a stationary device anyway.
Ordered 2 of them
If you get 2 Pod minis for surround sound for Apple TV, can you switch it to a Mac usage once the Apple TV is switch off?
They all work with airplay, so yes.
Plus you can switch airplay without (turning off) powering down your AppleTV. I switch audio throughout the day from Airpods, Homepods and Bluetooth devices all without any hassle. Especially now with AirPod switching automatically to whichever device you are using, aside from AppleTv that still needs to be selected via Airplay manually.
@@abblepc I’m thinking of using 2 Pod minis to complete switch my current sound system for my bedroom and still use it with my Mac mini.
Bro is it illegal to post a sound test I cant find a video anywhere 😡
I got the white HomePod mini and the black giant HomePod
Do third party smart home things work though or just the expensive accessories?
HomeKit isn’t “expensive” you can find tons of HomeKit compatible accessories for under $10 and $25.
Since my last century Sony Amplifier just croaked I can no longer listen to surround sound dolby 5.1 through the connected Bose Sound System this will be a good alternative to buying a new sound system. Certainly not as good as an amplifier and Bose speakers, but an affordable acceptable alternative.
It could even encourage me to upgrade other devices in my home to Apple Home devices.
Since there is only 2 of us in a 2 bedroom condo won’t need the intercom, especially since our iWatches have Walkie Talkie.
Yes excited about it.
I like Siri and am finding more ways to use it every day.
It takes a bit of practice to understand it and get it to be useful, but Siri is also great.
Spotify support on HomePod Mini is coming soon...killer feature !
It is? I thought only Amazon Music and Pandora are coming
So.... I really want the Apple Pencil but I also want the HomePod mini any suggestions? On what I should decide
IMO go with the pencil....reason you can do more with the pencil that with the HomePod. Unless you have like many smart gadgets at home. I have two google homes and I hardly ever use them. Just occasionally to set alarms and to ask for the weather and simple things like that.
HomePod mini
Pumped!
Can you use the homepod mini as a speaker for a macbook
I’m pretty sure you can. Saw a reddit thread abt it.
You can find OG HomePod for about 150 used now. I think I'll just get another one of those instead.
Does leaving Apple Pencil 2 on the IPad Pro 2020 charging days damage the IPad
I don’t think so.
Is the out yet
If I bought 4, and a regular HomePod, say $600-$700, can I build a kick-butt surround sound for the appleTV?
Lol for 700 dollars you can buy a real home theatre sound system that has 1000x better sound
No its just Support Stereo, so you only can pair 2
@@RodolphosTechchannel no you can’t. The homepod has hifi sound. It’s comparable to $1000+ speaker setups.
@@DylanM15 hahahah you clearly never had a 1000 dollar speaker setup.
Im buying three. one for each bedroom as intercoms
Rich
im afraid the ping latency wont be good enough for use as homekit hub.
I don't currently own an Apple smart speaker. How can you listen to UA-cam on one of these speakers if you are watching on an iPad?
Airplay.
I am planning on grabbing at least 4-5 lol!
rich ric-
Will it play your UA-cam playlist???
I love its features but I also really want to know how the sound quality would be in comparison to the Amazon echo plus 2nd gen
Same, I have ordered my Mini and I am holding my breath about the sound quality. The Big HomePod has apparently awesome quality but since it’s not the same tech in the mini...I doubt Apple would deliver a bad sound but I hope I won’t regret my Echo. I’ll keep the HomePod mini anyway, cuz of the ecosystem tho
Still not sold on the iPod mini
Apple only sells it in a few countries. Not in mine
That does seem to me like Home Pod Mini is in a lot of places better than the normal HomePod. Are there any features introduced with HomePod Mini that are coming to the normal HomePod as well?
Intercom is coming in the software update and will work with both devices. The only real function difference is the slightly enhanced handoff and maybe automatic pairing, which is enabled by the U1 chip that senses proximity to other Apple devices. Not a huge change from the original HomePod considering Handoff already works and setting up a pair is a single step in the setup process.
@@SirS2pendous Thanks
Can 2 home pod minis play at the same time in the same room (Stereo) ?

HomePod mini should have had MagSafe technology and not for the iPhone but in order for it to be placed anywhere when you want to enjoy music close and loud.
The spatial awareness feature on the HomePod is pretty impressive but for the price? Ehh.. I’ma just grab two minis for my lil ol one bedroom apartment.. I hope the sound quality is good 🥶
Nice but I’m not buying it now... will wait till summer 2021😉😉
I am torn. Should I buy a HomePod Mini or HomePod for the bedroom?
I’d go mini for Bedroom and save the HomePod purchase for the living room. The original HomePod gets REALLY loud and has a lot of power, probably best suited for the place where you’ll entertain guests.
Zit wireless???
Pure gadget audio.
Wait so I won’t be able to use the home mini as a permanent speaker to my apple tv?
Yes you can.
I like the intercom function most, just bought two.
Spatial awareness and the audio quality of the OG HomePod is what separates the HomePod from the rest. Have 2 in the bedroom and 1 in the family room. HomePod Mini will go in places like the kitchen where I don't need high quality audio. I'm sure the mini will sound better than othefbspeakers of similar size.
Don't know what the deal is with reviewers and how smart/dumb voice assistants are. No one but you guys be having conversations with them. They all work fine for what they do, including siri. They turn on and off things, contact to my devices. With the different automations and motion sensors. Not everyone in the house is tech savvy or wants to do voice commands. That's the majority everywhere else and people bring it up in reviews and videos.
But can it function as a HomeKit hub??
Yes
I have owned the HomePod since the day it was introduced more than two years ago. In fact, I have four HomePods (two stereo pairs). The sound quality is phenomenal. I enjoy listening to programs on the BBC iPlayer Radio on my HomePods. My only complaint is having to reset the HomePods frequently. I plan to buy a couple of the HomePod minis to add to my living room.
