Lydia, I am nearly 69 years young, yet still get so much inspiration from you! I love that your modern still feels classic and very wearable at any age. I always look forward to your videos. They have certainly influenced my retired dressing style & make me feel smart as well as up to date.❤
I’m a 66 year old retiree and you said exactly what i was thinking. I was saddened to learn Arket doesn’t ship to the US so now I’m on the hunt for several of the items shown today. THANK YOU Lydia for your inspiration.
You have the most original content among the British youtubers I follow. You come up with new ideas, while all others just keep showing their latest purchases, which we don't really care.
I never comment. BUT! I have to say this was one of the most informative videos on UA-cam. You have managed to say it all without false direction on starts. You certainly know your fashion. You know how to dress, select and style with purpose and intention while still being interesting.
I completely agree! Such valuable information here, and I love the depth you are going to in trying to explain your aesthetic versus trends or looks. You do an amazing job of breaking style down so others can understand the elements and create their own versions! Thanks so much!
Love your style Lydia. Of course me being 61 I wouldn't wear a very long slit up the front of my skirt 😮😅 BUT in the mid 80's I used to have a deep chocolate coloured midi pencil skirt with a small slit at the back, which I loved, and would still wear today. Personally I would put a skinny belt with the skirt. What I do notice today is that ALL 'fashion, styles, trends' have all been done before over and over, this year I've noticed a lot of 80's, last year the 70's....but I LOVE revisiting these eras, I've lived them and they hold some lovely memories. Ballet flats are a staple for me in Spring and Summer. I have black, tan, nude, silver and gold, the most versatile lightweight shoe ever. Your style is very French Chic, we have French ancestry in my family so it appeals to me.....then I go completely flamboyant in the warmer months as we also have Italian in the family and I go all colour, print and boho 🎉 😂 you're a very stylish young woman and I love to see elegance on young people instead of all legs, cleavage and butt cheeks, there's nothing more attractive than elegance at any age ❤
I’m 66 and I have had a long skirt with a slit up the front since 1996 and I still wear it today. Yes you are right; trends come and go and then come back and go again
Lydia, I am a small, petite woman. I am in my late fifties and always try to be elegant and chic. It is very difficult to find smart clothing for someone my size😢. Blazers and jackets are almost never available to me unless I go in for expensive alterations, so I try to stick with classics to keep them in fashion for me. Thanks for this lesson today. Thanks for this wonderful video. NOW, it would be so great 🙏🏻 to have a video on choices for petite women. There are so many of us out there!! Thank you. 😘
Lydia, I don'T think anyone can illustrate and explain a classy, elegant and effortless style better than you on You Tube. I love watching your videos learning the cut and design of clothing and slowly revamping my wardrobe, so that I can look put tougher and feel elegant for my age. When I go shopping, I definitely think of your videos . So I'm not wasting money in fast fashion, but investing in quality pieces that I can wear for a long time. Thanks for all of your styling tips!
Fantastic! No one does this kind of breakdown - classic/modern - like you. Thank you. I'm easily confused when shopping, and this melding of styles is so helpful. Keep educating!!!
Your style is classy and the way you break down your looks is so informative. Thank you! Your Shorts are also outstanding. I would LOVE to see how you would dress your mom in your traditional and modern classic styles - for every season.
Oh Lydia! That was a Masterclass on Fashion & Styling! ❤ I think everyone regardless of age, skin tone, body shape, height can resonate with something! To keep it brief, I will pick one.. shoulder pads. My mom in 90s had shoulder pads on so many of her tops. She would actually have her tailor put in on some of her pieces. I was a teenager of course then and I hated it. I said I would never do that. It’s come a full circle and I’m not all into it but I’m ready to do your Amazon hack.. removable shoulder pads for my blazers! I actually tried it and I’m loving it! 😊 Much love..❤
Just exactly what I needed to understand what to do about all those new unwearable trends. Thank you for this wonderful content, Lydia! P.S. Would appreciate if you create a little video for petite women ☺️ I’m 5,2 and really sometimes struggle to create something chic and yet comfortable.
One of your best videos. Great idea on how to wear wide leg pants. Love them all. Thank you for sharing new trends and always keeping a very elegant look.
❤❤❤❤a wonderful video where we can appreciate the subtle and important differences between traditional classic and a more modern take on classic styles 🎉
Thanks so much for taking the time to break down the differences in such detail! Your reassurance is very comforting that peices we own that may not be on trend can still be modernised to make the most of what we have too. Its so refreshing and creative. ❤ i hope you keep doing what you are doing!
I am loving the loose trouser legs.❤ I've bought several pairs and wear them with low heel sling backs with a pointed toe. I got the sling backs in both black and beige. Also loving the Ts in neutral colors. My jewelry and handbags really stand out against this simple background. Thanks to Lydia for helping me with this fashion concept! ❤
Well explained! All timeless pieces that can live in my closet for years. Even the "trendier" ones are arguably still classic. I can choose to invest in both versions for variation in style or stick to the version that suits me best.
I just watched one video of you again since 2 years. And I'm positively surprised to see hiw much better you have become. No looking down on yourself anymore, which I found very weird. You seem much more natural and self confident than before. Nice videi and yoz was very pleasant to hear. Thank you!😊
Thanks for teach with your style. I’m not English speaking but you have a wonderful pronunciation and lovely manners to express the ideas. Love your style. I’m near 60 and you’re very inspirational. ❤
love your videos mainly because you explain so well why some things look better together than others. it helped me a lot without having to buy everything new. 😊
As someone who is in the midst of completely redoing an outdated wardrobe, your videos are incredibly helpful! I couldn't figure out where I was going wrong but in addition to my outdated style, part of the problem is that the U.S. doesn't seem to have as many wonderful shopping options as other parts of the world. REALLY hoping Arket can start shipping to the U.S. at some point soon!
@K: I actually envy you Americans as the shopping situation is far worse in CANADA as options are best described as nil not to mention, pricing is outrageous.
@@canukmrsben Oh wow- I didn't think it could be worse that what we have here. In the U.S. cheap, poorly made clothes and the luxury brands are easy to find. It's the mid-range quality clothing that I think we're lacking. I found COS via Lydia's channel and I do like some of Uniqlo's clothing although I wouldn't put it in the mid-range category. The U.S. has a trade agreement with Australia so we don't have a limit on what we can import without paying taxes from Australia but there is a limit of $800 USD from the U.K. and France. Sézane is the only brand I've found that has built in import taxes into their prices + they have free shipping over a certain amount and free returns. Other European brands just don't have a way to return items to them without paying international shipping to return the item(s). Maybe write to customer service for the brands you're interested in to see if they have any future plans for Canada so that they know there is interest in their brand there.
Your videos this year have been the best!! No nonsense here!! Lydia you have taken time to really think and style classic and timeless looks with basic quality pieces! I love love this year’s new videos ! The way you help us think and not just go buy everything new in… you look amazing in everything!! Thanks for encouraging us to really think and appreciate the simple and timeless pieces!
I loved the video! You explain the concept so well. I love how you make dressing a narrative gesture, with it’s own feel and subtleties. I would love a similar video strictly about shoes. Thanks!
Lydia this was really interesting. I love how you break down the styles and cuts in your explanation of what is 'current' and what is 'classic'. Like you, I have a mixture of both in my wardrobe. Yes, more on this topic would be welcome! X😊
Such a great video! You have taught me so much over the last few years. ❤ As I watched you go through the basics I could see exactly how far I've come. Lord knows I needed guidance. I didn't have a clue. Just a closet full of cheap magpie pieces. Nothing worked together. It was so sad. Now I feel like a graduate. Thanks to you!
This video is absolutely brilliant. I loved how you explain how/why the pieces achieve a certain look. This is all about mixing pieces most people already own, not about don’t wear that, buy this instead! This has really helped me identify a couple of pieces i could add this spring without over buying. Please keep making these really helpful videos, thank you.
Love it, I really needed this video. Definitely it has brought me more clarity. Please would love to see more video like this. You are amazing, keep going ❤❤❤
This makes sense, some pieces I like the traditional style like the grey skirt. Others, i like the moderns one, like the loafers, but is helpful to see each and get an idea of how you can make work with what you have already. 💕
looved this kind of video, Lydia. I can really feel your passion in this subject and I would watch this kind of concept it in any category. I would love to hear more about the fact that traditional vs. modern is a style choice and a fun way to play with your (our) classics pieces depending on your (our) mood and occasion. for at family dinner I might enjoy a more traditional/elegant styling vs. a night out with the girls where i've go for something more boxy/smart/sexy.
🤍 You’ve done a great job explaining the differences. I loved it. Thank you Lydia for simplifying this. I can’t wait to start recreating pieces to wear!
It's interesting to me that I really enjoy watching youtubers with classic style like yourself yet my style is bold color, lots of accessories and variety. In my office days I wore lots of black gray and navy. Now I'm retired living in Florida so I'm drawn to color and prints but I still love the concept of the minimalist classic capsule wardrobe. I just don't see myself doing it now. I'd have to get rid of everything in my closet lol. Definitely struggling to dress my body in my 60s and the casual lifestyle here. I miss my age 30 style in the city I love your videos and approach to fashion. Another great video ❤
Love this video! As always you look completely chic and this is such a great topic! Would love to see more handbag examples, I'm looking for a Tan leather Toteme dupe!
I loved this video. It spelt out what I probably already could see intuitively and explained why. My style of dressing is now making complete sense to me. I'm 57 and as I've got older I've gravitated even more to a more masculine style style of dressing. I love tailoring, especially blazers, shirts, polo shirts, sharp angles, stiff fabrics. I now never wear dresses, skirts, anything soft, flowy, draped, floral, embroidered, embellished, pretty or dainty. Somehow all these things make me feel even older, and outfits that may look good on somebody younger just somehow seem to age me even more. I feel prim, prissy and dated. Whereas if I wear for instance a tailored trouser suit - wide legs, oversized with a shirt I feel sharp, structured, put together but modern. Cool even. When you said 'sharp' it all just fell into place. I knew it all intuititively, but your video helped to explain why. The older I get the more I have to dress 'modern' and the less I can get away with 'traditional'. Whereas somebody much younger can look great in a more traditional style.
I have to say that I am not one who comments much, however this video inspired me to. I think your content is well thought out and very insightful. You not only have an eye for fashion but you are able to help translate your understanding to others, so they can better understand their own styles or goals. Excellent video that helped me to understand the difference between traditional and more modern pieces and how they can be blended into a unique classic style. Please continue with more staples to make a series. Again, brava to you for the creativity and valuable information ❤
Hi Lydia! Thanks for the video! I really like that you noticed the small details that changes the look of the outfit even the height of the tongue of the shoes! I like that you are able to articulate the small changes that make the outfit more modern. I think that when I look at my outfits, I do notice that but am not able to articulate why I liked something and why I didn't like something. So it's really great to understand why! 😍
Could you add a link to the black modern ballet flats? I loved the topic, finally understood my own preferences & style personality ❤ Would love to see more modern staple ideas ❤️
Love these comparison videos of classic vs. modern styles! Please keep making these videos! Can you do one about shoes? Been really struggling in finding the perfect in-between with the traditional and modern. There are too many styles and too many types of shoes. Been looking for something casual, but not too casual nor dressy. Also, handbags as well! Love the Dior bag btw. Been handbag eye-shopping, but still couldn't find anything that is within my budget. Thanks Lydia! 😘
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! So much needed and useful information. Trying to build the basics of a traditional classic style. Did away of a bunch of things I had that I was never going to wear.
Always great advice. I often end up buying clothes I never wear and trying to change that. I’ve always loved the classic modern style but got off track recently. I’m 70 years old from Southern California.
Such a helpful video. Love your style. I have weddings and graduations coming up and would love a video on "dressy" outfits with items in our spring/summer closets like you did at Christmas!
Very interesting video, Lydia. In my case, I don't stick to styles, but rather what suits me. I know that the fashion industry brings a huge variety in cuts and styles, but regardless of whether it's classic or more modern, I like to look in the mirror and feel beautiful. Does it favor me? Will I feel good wearing it? Is it comfortable, has quality, will it make me more beautiful? I'm very likely to buy it if it's within my means.
Great video Lydia. My style words are classic modern and elegant. Explains why I have gradually updated some silhouettes in trousers, shirts and shoes.
You are such a beautiful and elegant lady. Not like most of these content creators, on UA-cam in there underwear during outfit changes. You are a pleasure to watch ❤
The longer white pants with the high fitted waist is more vintage to me as I started wearing them in 1973. Very flattering. Too bad I don't have my 1973 body. My 66 y.o. ankles look terrible in flood pants. My modern version is to go more cropped with wide legs in a flowy fabric.
This was helpful! I started studying fashion about 4 years ago. I do get curious about what makes something modern vs out of date. The sharper edges and oversized make sense.
I love your channel. I think we could appraciate more your wonderful styling if the wall behind you was beige/taupe like in museums when featuring art. White or black on a white wall makes it how to say, ordinary. Many photographers sware by the rule no white plain background, ever. Thanks for the best tips on YT!

Thank you so much for all your videos. I find them so educational and inspiring.
❤
Great video, done so well. Yes, more like this. Thank you.
Always great advice. I often end up buying clothes I never wear and trying to change that. I’ve always loved the classic modern style but got off track recently. I’m 70 years old from Southern California.
One of your best videos Lydia thank you for this gem
Hi Lydia, I'm 30 from South Africa. We are in Autumn/Fall currently. Love your content ❤

That's a great idea.

You’re my favorite fashion UA-camr, thanks Lydia another great video!
Loved this! Please do more 🤍
Great video Lydia. My style words are classic modern and elegant. Explains why I have gradually updated some silhouettes in trousers, shirts and shoes.
You are such a beautiful and elegant lady. Not like most of these content creators, on UA-cam in there underwear during outfit changes. You are a pleasure to watch ❤
yes please more of these, loved this video so much.
Love this! Super duper helpful! Your point about the angles was great and really made sense
I really enjoyed this video. As a classic you gave me lots of inspiration to be more modern.
Great video and everything so subtle.
Would love to see a jewellery version of this.
I loved the traditional outfits!🥰
Thank you Lydia! Just love it💚
The longer white pants with the high fitted waist is more vintage to me as I started wearing them in 1973.
Love these. I'd like more on trousers, jeans and skirts please as well as shoe pairings. Good alternatives to ballet flats would be good to know too.
Very valuable video! Great job on what could have been a complicated or vague topic.
I love your channel. I think we could appraciate more your wonderful styling if the wall behind you was beige/taupe like in museums when featuring art. White or black on a white wall makes it how to say, ordinary. Many photographers sware by the rule no white plain background, ever. Thanks for the best tips on YT!
Super helpful. The examples are what make this work for me.
