  • In this lesson from Module 1 of the "Hand Techniques" lab, Russ will demonstrate and discuss the basics of "The Moeller" technique. Russ studied with Jim Chapin for many years. Jim was the student of Sanford Moeller, the namesake of the main stroke movements we use on the drums. Through this direct study of this invaluable technique, Russ will help you gain power, speed and control in your playing. Creating multiple notes with one movement, adding internal dynamics and creating a better feel in everything you play on the instrument, are just some of the benefits of this technique.

Where is the rest of the video?! You say you're going to talk about this and talk about that, but you don't. This vid only demonstrates a third of the moeller stroke.

I'm a matched/balanced grip player of 35+ years. Oddly enough, the explanation of the motion on the left hand traditional grip almost explains the basic mechanics of the Moeller technique better for me. I could never understand how to achieve the same volume with traditional grip before watching demonstrations of this stick motion. How nice to be able to learn something new after playing drums as long I have. Thank you!
