Reverse Seared NY Strips on the Blackstone Griddle

- I was lazy and decided to try doing a reverse sear on the Blackstone instead of Big Green Egg.
I turned out pretty tasty I'd admit. Next time, I'll add some wood chips to the griddle top to bring some smoke in.
Ingredients:
Salt
Pepper
Onion powder
Garlic powder
Beef powder
Butter
Avocado oil

Just found your channel when trying to see how to de-rust and reseason my steel griddle. Love that you are being you and could be a neighbor I would enjoy being around.
I appreciate the kind words my friend. Thanks for the support!
I know this is old,but it looked like you went through 3 seasons while making thus video..lol! Rain..then dark with rain..then sunny. Thank-you for sharing. Take care.
Lol! It sure did. Thanks for watching!
LOVE that you are SO …."Normal"!....no fancy ingredients, etc....PLEASE keep vids coming...!
Thanks Kathryn! I’m just an ordinary guy!
I like to watch you cook ! And I like the way you think about cooking. Using what you have . Keep up the good work and God bless you and your family.
Had our Blackstone since Christmas, we love it!!
I love reverse searing. Comes out perfect every time.
It is great for sure!
Great idea... we outdoor cooks always have our lazy days… You and Todd have the best griddle Vids I’ve seen… I just discovered you… Keep up the great work!
Thanks Erik! Appreciate the kindness and support! I'm tickled to be mentioned in the same sentence with Todd!
instablaster
3:14 . second hungry hussey video ive seen and this guy is an instant favorite.
Thanks buddy! Appreciate the support!
LUV the Genuineness you bring to your presentations. Your outdoor 'Kitchen' is also impressive.
Love the simplicity of your videos!
Keep em coming...
Thanks Marco! Be looking, more to come!
Saw this video last year for the first time and have been doing my steaks like this ever since. Just wonderful!
I really appreciate your hard work on your videos. One thing that I really appreciate is when tell temp of grill High / Low / Med. I’m just learning about griddle temps. Used to own rest (years ago) but mainly hamburgers in my past. Trying to expand my horizons on the griddle. Thanks, Dan
New subscriber from Gville SC ... just got my Blackstone and would've been lost without your videos. So far, I'm loving it.
That's great buddy! I'm glad you're enjoying the content. Enjoy your new Blackstone.
Thanks for the vid. I just bought this griddle today for my fathers day gift. I'm so pumped!! Searched for it and found your video.
Nice snag buddy! You'll love it!
Just came across your videos, and I love watching you cook and listening to you! Great job!!
Hi Leah! Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy the videos!
Who knew you could fit half a cow on the Blackstone?!!!! Thanks for the great video! Happy Father’s Day
Looks good, Matthew. I bought me a 24 oz. ribeye to grill tonight. When I got home, I discovered I had used my last bit of charcoal and had forgotten about it. So, I did a reverse sear on my Blackstone. I pretty much did like you, started around 350, but directly on the griddle, not a rack. When it was time, I boosted temps to 450 to sear. Good eatin', my friend.
That's awesome Howard. Glad you enjoyed the technique.
You always have wholesome family friendly videos , I appreciate that. Good job.
Thanks Timothy! Appreciate the support and kind words.
Nicely done. Thanks for sharing this. I may have to try this technique!!
U make it look easy bro. Loving ur videos during this pandemic. Ordered my 36" Blackstone today!
Hey Brother! I like the reverse sear technique. I'll be trying that soon. Cooked hibachi for the whole family last night and it was amazing! Loving my Pro Series! Keep'em coming!
That's awesome! Glad the fam enjoyed the hibachi! It is really good!
Thanks HH. I'm not much of a subscriber guy but you got me. You turned me on to the Blackstone and I'm grateful. I must have been hiding under a rock? Anyway, can't wait til mine arrives. Thanks for making it fun and imparting your knowledge. You da man!
Thanks Jim! I'm glad you clicked the sub button! Hope you enjoy your Blackstone!
Thanks for the tip of one hand meat, one hand seasoning. I figured out that I need to take the tops off of all the seasonings and open up the snap tops prior to the seasoning process.
Yeah, with some practice you can do them with one hand (you know when you forget to take them off like I do). Lol
Great video!!!! Every good man has said, “I’m so stupid!” Only Great men say it out loud!!!
I like that, Eric! Appreciate it!
this video made my Sunday I'm going to have to try that reverse Sear
Thanks buddy! Give it a try!
Love your technique looks delicious. I shared your video on my Facebook hope you get a lot of views
Thanks for the share and support Nancy! I appreciate it.
Reverse sear on a Blackstone....who would have thought it. Your a genius.
Good vid, thanks for sharing
Thank you for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed the video.
I love it!! "Good deal Lucille"😆😆 and 70's intro music! I believe I may have to borrow that from ya Huss! Shoot howdy! Those are some kinda strip steaks! Everything looks fantastic!! Happy 1 yr old to baby H2 🎂🎈🎉. Thanks for the great video. Love to all y'all from AZ! Kathi😎
Hi Kathi! Hope you're doing well! Thank you for your kindness. I'll be sure to tell Mr. Mason you said happy birthday!
Just got my Blackstone will try this. Great video! Will be watching all!!
Interesting. Looks good, glad it worked out. I'm laughing a little over how quick the rain came in.
Really weird weather going on that day for real.
Love your videos! Keep up the great job!
The reverse sear was a great idea - Just did steaks last night on the blackstone (and just heated some up for lunch today!).. always a great video, thanks!
Thanks buddy! It just hit me out of no where to try that instead of using the grill. Glad you enjoyed it.
Loved this video. I Subscribed.
Beautiful setup and backyard man 👌🏽
Thank you Isaac! Appreicate the kind words and your support!
We used to have Food Lion in Tulsa along time ago, they were constantly getting fined/ shut down for health violations related to their meats. Glad it working for you, enjoy the vids.
Hilarious!!! “The Sap is running off of me”. I know the feeling!!! Nice video.
That’s awesome, I will definitely be trying this one for sure. Thanks Hungry!!
Thanks Jay!
Why do I always watch your videos at night? Now I'm hungry! Looked great!
I appreciate you watching at any time buddy! Sorry for the hunger! haha
Made these on the Blackstone tonight for my girlfriend and me. They turned out to be a couple of the best steaks we've ever had! I did the same seasoning you did, too. Even got to use my new pig tail flipper I got from your neighbor. I wish I could post a photo of the steak. Keep up the excellent videos!
Never heard of reverse searing. Now....I am going to try it.. Well done, Matthew...
Great looking groceries there brother! I gotta try that reverse sear method. Gonna film my first cook on the Blackstone Combo today. Hope it's not an epic fail!
You got it bro! Not going to be a fail at all.
I had to wait till the last minute to hear " this gonna be some good groceries " you got saying it now when I cook.
Haha... I wanted to make sure folks stayed till the end. Haha..
It was a rather long video. Sorry about that.
Great video as always! Now I gotta get me some steaks and try that reverse sear method on my Blackstone. Your making us all better cooks, keep it up!
Hey, thanks buddy! I appreciate the kind words and support! Hope you enjoy this method.
I have a Blackstone... and when it comes to the CORN...
I soak the corn for 15 - 20 minutes in water...
then put it on the Blackstone with the husk still one it...
turn it often, until the husk gets brown... Turns out great...
Sounds great Judi!
I think this early long stretch of heat in the south has made all of us very tired and sluggish. The food looks great as always!
Thanks Kim! Whatever it is, I'm ready to shed myself from it.
Amazing grilling and presentation as always
Thanks pal! Appreciate you watching my friend.
Dang man ! I wasn't hangry til I watched this. Now I got to get me a Blackstone. Very nicely done my friend !!!
Thanks my friend.
Thank you hungry Hussey hadn't tried a reverse sear on Blackstone after seeing you do it like Todd toven says let's give her a try. thank you for another great video
Thanks buddy! I did give an ode to my ole buddy Todd! Haha
So I just ordered me a Blackstone and I ran across your channel. It's 10:20 at night and your starving me to death! Great job. You should have your own show on food network.
Wow I just learned a new technique! Lol thought of a 60’s song and changed the words to go along with your vid “ second bite same as the first I’m Hussey the reverse sear man Hussey the reverse sear man yes I am” lol forgive me lol flash backs are dangerous Henry The Eighth just fell in there ya know! Thanks for teaching me and sharing your knowledge bro!
Haha... You crazy PaPaJoe! Haha. In a good way. Thanks brother!
Nice griddle setup!
Fine job as always. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
I normally hate listening to people chew but when Hussey does it, it makes me hungry.
It’s hard to keep my mic from picking the noises up. Some people hate it. Sorry about that.
@@thehungryhussey no I wasn't meaning to be rude. It is always my favorite part of your videos!
I so love that you buy stuff at regular grocery store! Thanks for a great cook! 😘🖖🏻👍🏻🙏🏻
First off Happy birthday Mason. Secondly steak is my favorite thing to eat and brother you got that steak just about perfect. Your best thing yet by far. BTW my favorite cut is the porterhouse.
Thanks Kirk! It was a long video, but glad you enjoyed it.
The porterhouse is one of my favs too!
Dang hussey, those strips look great, nice color! Veggies turned out real good too. Great cook brother and have a great weekend!
Thanks Pickles!
Hussey, those NY ribeye strips look deelicious👍👍
Hahah... That's what I should have said "NY ribeye strips" haha.
I just came across your video again and I HAD TO WATCH IT AGAIN! Yes, I did mean to yell it. Awesome dinner. Great share :-)
Thank you,
Jay
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice cook. We love the channel.
I like to reverse sear on my rectec pellet smoker at 180 degree max smoke to 118 degrees and then toss them on either a 450 degree charcoal fire in my Akorn Jr. or my super hot 22” Blackstone griddle with the garlic butter sauce. Either way is an outstanding result.
Love your videos man. Just got my 36 because or your videos. Definitely gonna try this. Gonna shoot for medium rare. My first cook was 50 hamburgers and 30 dogs. That grill handled it like a champ!
That's great to hear.
Yeah, you may want to use a heat probe to make sure your temps are 250° or so.
Awesome video Matt! I use a lot of what I see in your videos.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Hello friend glad to see you back I love steak enjoy watching you fix it on the black stone
Thank you Gene!
Those are some good looking steaks! Heads up: If your Food Lion is like mine the best selection of "Manager's Specials" is around 8:30-9:00 AM Daily. I happened to be in there around that time a few times and saw the butcher making the mark downs. Now I show up around that time on purpose. :-)
I was there at 7:30am and caught these!
Looks awesome my friend. I have a blackstone griddle. I didn't think u could make steaks on it. Gonna try it.
Nicely filmed and nicely done. Steaks look great! Veggies too.
Thanks buddy!
Wheewww Weee!!! Hussey that was just perfect and pure seared goodness on the blackstone. I love it!! jus t keepem rolling my brother, those are sone siccc steaks
That's buddy!
Love it, Hussey! Keep that content coming!!
Thanks Art!
I know what I'm doing for fathers day! They look amazing.
Ha! Hope it turns out well!
Great video as usual. Happy belated birthday Mason!!!
Thanks Matthew!
Awesome video. One minor suggestion, buy yourself a pepper mill. In my view, freshly ground pepper makes a world of difference. I bought the “Unicorn Magnum Plus Pepper Mill” a couple of years ago and it is LIFE CHANGING.
Keep it up, love the videos!
I have the same unit. Didn’t feel like having to wash my hands after touching the steak then using the mill.
New to your channel. Just purchased my black stone yesterday. Seasoning today. Best part about your videos is listening to your lip smacking tastings at the end. Dang that looks and sounds so Good.
Thanks Stan! Some folks hate that but it is what it is and that's what I do. haha. Thanks for the support!
Looks like good groceries. Im in Hickory NC and have almost been washed away. Still expecting rain tomorrow.
Man, I tell you, we been getting hit hard with rain. My little garden is loving it, I know that.
Mouth watering! Yummy! Fly was trying to get him some to! LoL
Hate those darn things!
@@thehungryhussey yes they just want go away!
Brother I enjoy your cooking video I try 2 watch all them God bless y'all my Brother
16:22
Did he say "Butter Bath"...
I stand corrected... You do know how to
cook with Butter... I'm so proud of you!!!
Yu'da man... L@@king good.
Thanks Judi!
I know this is an old post, but you made me go grill. Thanks brother. Lol. Thank you for sharing. Take care.
Great vid. You remind me of Justin Wilson in some of your inflections!! keep up the good work
Where would I find one of those fancy turning hooks you have there. I love your videos and I'm learning so much.
Just found your video, I think you are refreshing. Thanks for being real.
Thanks buddy for stopping by!
Entertaining as always. Those steaks looked awesome.
Thanks Ryan!
I've never tried blackstone steak Ill have to give it a try-thanks for the video ! !
Give it a try buddy!
Love your videos. Backyard tip..... get a pepper grinder and use fresh black pepper, so much better!
Thanks. I do have a pepper grinder, just didn’t have it out with me.
Ah the earlier days before the Blackstone air fryer griddle combo and actual dome and such. Looks like you managed fine. Most important tool, your brain!
Yes sir. This was my OG front grease drain model. It's still going strong over at my brothers house.
Im from California is my dream to have a back yard like yours. Be outside in a rain day with a cup of ☕ coffee.
Thanks bud. Our deck is an extension of our home.
Move to Oregon
Wow those NY strips look fabulous wish we could get them over here....
Thanks TGG! I hear it’s tough to get good meat in the UK.
Great job man! I use a sous vide cooker, but could do the same on the griddle after.
I like SV sometimes too, but have always done reverse sear on the grill for the flavor. This was a great alternative for sure.
Thank you for sharing this great video...
Thanks for watching.
The Blackstone can do it all! Even Blackstone BBQ! Great lookin steaks Hussey! BLACKSTONERS!
You told that right brother! #blackstoners
Mighty fine bunch of food there and you've given me an idea. When I make my video I'll make sure you get some recognition for my inspiration. Keep up the great work my friend
Thanks bud! Let me know when you post it so I can watch!
@@thehungryhussey will do
Always use the blackstone lol. I love you bro!
Thanks buddy! I love you too brother!
Great video! Definitely learned a new trick with the reverse sear! Thanks
Tyler- you do know that he overcooked those beautiful steaks, don't you? Hopefully you learned to avoid doing that!
Robin Hoode yes but that’s where paying close attention to your cook pays off.
Thanks buddy!
Don't play like you've never over shot a steak.
I have remote thermos, but decided not to do it. Still the steak was great.
Great job! Love cooking steaks on my black stone too
Me too! There's a lot out there that say they don't want their steaks touching the Blackstone. I believe I could persuade them differently.
All your food looks good well done 👍👌
Thank you!
looks amazing
Thanks Brian!
First time watching your channel. Have a RecTec 680 and have a Blackstone still in the box from 2 weeks ago! Love the idea of makin an oven outta the griddle!! Over cooked for my liking, but to each their own. What kinda temp guage do you have that reads temp of griddle?? Gotta get one of those. Thanks, Bro!!
Thanks Dave for stopping by!
I kinda overshot a little. I should have pulled my remote thermometer out, but I suck at life. Still nice an pink mostly, but headed more on the med. side. Didn't think it would have gotten there so soon honestly.
That's a Thermoworks IR gun. There's a link in the description for it. Works great.
Hey Matthew! Sorry for the delayed reply. I was up in Canada for a little fishing trip. Had a great time, but found myself thinking about the next HH video while out on the boat. This was a really well done shoot. Best transitions yet and you were super comfortable in your conversation with the camera.
Those Ribeye’s (NY strips) looked awesome, buddy! Ha. Only kidding around. That was funny. All those veggies looked super tasty too. Well done, brother!
Hope you’re well and the family is doing great. Take it easy, my friend. Looking forward to another great video soon!
Glad you enjoyed it Dan! How was the trip? What type of fish were you fishing for?
The Hungry Hussey The trip was great, thanks. Much needed. Very remote, so you’re forced to unplug and helps to relax. Fishing for Walleye. Not sure if you get them down south. Really good eating fish. Nice and light, flaky white flesh. We’d pull up to a shoreline and fry them up over a campfire with some potatoes and onions. As fresh as it gets. Delicious!
No walleye here for the most part. Maybe in the lakes in the mountains, maybe. I was up in Ohio this week and this one restaurant had it for order. Thought about getting it, but didn't.
Bro, great video. Sometimes u get tired when u gotta cook for a lot of people. This is a great method I might try it! Does that bacon press have a picture of a pig. Hahaha😝 I think I have the same one! All looks good!
That press is the Blackstone one. It's a good way to cook if you don't want to fire the grill up. Just watch them as I over shot these some. Thanks for the kind words!
Nothing like a well seasoned, well cooked steak and veggies
Thank you David and I agree!
Thanks Buddy. Sounds like a plan!!
Anytime!
Those steaks are looking so delicious and your family must have loved eating them and wanting you to cook more.
They were really good buddy! Thanks for watching.
S-P-G for me! Excellent video, learned some tips, I appreciate you sharing.
Glad you enjoyed!
Great idea Mathew. I tried this last week with oil, nutter and rosemary. And they were awesome. I’ve noticed you now have a metal cover on the black stone. Where’d ya get it.
Yeah buddy, love that finish butter at the end. I do whatever hits me at the time. Sometimes, it's just butter like this.
Check out these links for my buddy Tim. Tell him I sent you.
