  • Just some food for thought today about forstners bits and using them on the drill press - If you're going to be drilling a lot of holes by all means set the depth and put something sacrificial under or not - but most of what I do in the shop is small batches of things - many times it's quicker for me to cut setup time on the tools I use -
    Speaking of tools - below are some affiliate links to some of the tools I used today - it helps not having to answer the same questions as well as it helps support the videos I am making

    That's funny. I just finished building a drill press table, and I was wondering why I wasted so much time mortising for a perfect baltic birch insert when my last drill press had the same MDF insert for 10 years - I usually just put a piece of scrap under the bit for important cuts. Baltic birch sure looks purty though.

    I just keep some 1/4" plywood scraps by the drill press and put one under the work piece and then set the drill press stop so it doesn't go all the way to the table.

    What drill press will work with the 2” forestner?

    • @NickFerry
      @NickFerry  9 місяців тому +1

      A few will - some factors come into play - material drilling into, hard or soft wood - and drill press speed - if you can slow the press down you can normally snag some torque with it - 1/3 hp or bigger should be fine taking your time - 1/4hp if you get a little creative - to make my, now overly verbose answer a tad more succinct, try to snag some 1/3hp or above, as well as a 1/2” drill chuck (many have them) - and it would be remiss of me not to add, clamp it down - whatever you’re drilling, that 2” bit has grab, and unless it’s a long lever you’re drilling, please clamp it down - best of luck ✌🏼

    The one thing that I can tell you that I can not stand, is jumping around from platform to platform trying to find new content from people I follow! In fact It is such a pain in the ASS that I now and forever more refuse to continue to do it! I was spending more time searching for new uploads from everyone that I follow than actually watching new content!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So from now on it is here on UA-cam or I will not be seeing it! No Instagram, no Facebook, no where else but here!!! I don't have the desire to jump here and search, then there and search, then over here and search! NO MORE If you guys want me and many others like me to see your content! POST IT HERE!!! I don't care how short it is if it is not here I wont see it!

    • @NickFerry
      @NickFerry  5 років тому

      Interesting thought on it - yeah it seems platforms only notify people much of stuff they have calculated sells well - oh well I’m stuck with it too - their house their rules

    • @mikesmicroshop4385
      @mikesmicroshop4385 5 років тому

      @@NickFerry I think you are missing my point! If you post on other platforms, I am not going to see it! The reason is that I am tired of going to Facebook and Instagram and others looking to see if the SEVERAL HUNDRED people I follow have posted something! It has nothing to do with rules and everything to do with having to jump around looking for new posts! A lot of you all spend a bunch of time I assume posting to other places because it is quicker for you to do so! Well that's great! I am happy for you! But you are leaving a lot of people that helped you build your presence online in the dirt that have no time or desire to hop from platform to platform trying to keep up with your new posts! There are a lot of you that post what you used to on UA-cam on other platforms in little chunks instead of a longer video on here! It is so easy that you forget about the growing number of people, like me that are tired of logging into Facebook and searching to see what you have there, then login into Instagram and searching for what you have posted there! Not everyone has a smart phone and not everyone has all of the annoying apps that ding and interrupt their day countless times to let them know at a moments notice that someone has posted something! I and many others have decided that we are sticking to one platform, the one that I can sit down to and watch everything that the people I follow have posted that day without having to go her and there to find it! I have over 900 channels I follow! Many of them have shifted to doing most of their posting of any regularity on other platforms. Take Facebook as an example! The last time I was on Facebook, it took me 2 hours of scrolling to get through ONE DAY of posts to find the content of people that I follow here! I watched 2 hours of content on UA-cam after spending 15 minutes looking through the Subscriptions listing! To search for the 200 or so creators that now post more on other platforms than they used to here individually to find their content would take even longer! I like others are sick and tired of doing that! So for that reason, If It Is Not Posted Here I Will Not See It! I am not saying to stop using other platforms! I am saying that you and others are forsaking your UA-cam base by not posting here as you used to, and many of us are no longer going to find what is not posted here as well as on other platforms! This is a monster of you alls creation! By dividing you content and time between so many places you are starting to piss off people and loosing followers in the mix! I am by no means the only one, but I am one of the few that is actually taking the time to say something about it. You should be able to tell that by all of the comments you get here that say "great to see you posting again Nick" or variations of that! Now think of all the followers you have, and the tiny percentage of them that actually comment do the math and you get an idea of the number of people that DON'T jump to other platforms hunting content anymore if some of them ever did!
