Keith adds a whole new dimension to Steely Dan. He’s accentuated their music with his unmatched drumming. Cool guy too. I went to all of his gigs in Texas back in the 90’s before he hit the big time and when he was still just a kid he drew the attention of many drummers like myself. Keith has marked an epoch in drumming history. Enjoy and Steely Dan is the best. Cheers!
I love Keith Carlock's solos. Much of his solos are not flashy chops or blazing speed, but I find his solos so musical and satisfying as well as encouraging. While he has both blazing speed and chops, his solos are not just a display of his speed and chops like so many solos I see from too many drummers. He makes such effective use of not only every beat and possible subdivision of each beat but makes effective use of rests and unplayed notes. His solos are deceptively intricate and he makes it look effortless and so laid back. Thank you for sharing this.
That bass drum though! It’s like he’s playing it with a beater in his hand it’s so beautifully played. And his ghost notes on the snare just so unified and he gets such power at such speed and yet he’s so relaxed!
That is beautiful groovesome playing. He's like Steve Jordan meets Steve Gadd or something. Incredibly tasteful, great kit sound. Man, that bass drum ... Ouch!! Keith is so locked in, a really great solo.
His interplay between the snare and kick is absolutely masterful. He makes it sound like child's play, but try playing it as seamlessly as he does, and you'll find its it's anything but.
Never heard of this man until his snare won first place in the Drum Center Portsmouth video. Refereshing to hear a kit wide open for once, and that isn't in jazz.
I love Keith's unique style and I've learned a lot from him however is it just me or does every single video of him sound the exact same? Exact same fills and beats.
@@KONAMAN100 I have 2 short kind of lame videos posted on my super lame channel if you're interested. Not my best playing, I'm not in my 20's anymore like I was when I made the GC Drum Off Finals. I used to be awesome, I say that humbly though. I really worked at my craft, played to a sequencer, programmed the sequencer and I was solid, way before YT. Peace
@@gravitydrums1391 lol...I don't know i saw brewer live a few times....fucking funny.....Keith i saw with steely Dan a few times..... really excellent.....in fact superb!!
I love his playing but frankly I hear no discernible difference between this video and his Modern Drummer appearance in 2005. 17 years gone by, no noticeable evolution, IMO.
At this point, I go to Steely shows simply to watch this man play. Worth the cost every time.

This is my favorite "open, unmuted" drum sound.
It roars and rumbles for miles.
Nice description.

He’s super musical a story teller. Tasty and more
@@Simonewhitesim-1music yes, exactly, his solos take you somewhere like a story does.
I keep waiting for Steve Lukather and Nathan East to come back in …
Definitely, He is incredibly musical.
I can literally listen to him all day

Saw in last summer for the first time. Amazed and captivated. Such a groove.
Before everything else, his tuning, touch, and tone is incredible.
Love his ”open” bass drum…
I love Carlock's sticking technique. He's a master.
Yep, He plays so different from others and is so refreshing.
Carlock is an absolute beast.
ANd so creative.
add buddy rich, tony williams, steve gadd and a splash of bonham and you get keith carlock. simply amazing performance
Love his playing & his kit sounds amazing
That groove is instantly recognizable. Great tone. Love his pedal work.
Incredible dynamics!

He is kinda scary in some ways..
One of my earliest students, now a True Master.
how old was he when he started learning with you? Miss.?
Keith’s been keeping up his chops during COVID!
Flawless and with a groovy feel, untouchable!
Keith is one of the greatest ever. His left handed traditional grip dexterity is incredible as well. Enjoy
Was introduced to a Keith from a girl who went to school with him. Didnt think much at first but now I Love his Playing.
Amazing drummer 🥁🙏🏽💪🏻💪🏻🇵🇷🇺🇸❤️
His double stroke rolls are amazing.
And thats just where he starts,
Lots of drive and flow. Great.
for sure, He doesnt rush, His flow is so nice.
Is anyone Keith's equal as far as flowing double strokes around the kit? I can't think of anyone better.
Beautiful.
Magnifico.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Wow..just wow
Incroyable ! J'adoooore !

Here is drumming undoubtedly art.

Wow, thanks !
No muffling in bass drum!!! wow...
Keith implements the ideas that I have but don't get around to learning how to play, LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!
🙌
👍👍👍👍🙃😄
The first two minutes -Like the soundtrack to a Dirty Harry movie .
LOL, I like this comment...
That same old improvisation concept. Love the bass tone though.
If you really listen you will find hes doing things that go beyond anything typical.
Being creative isn't as easy as some make it look
Ditto Chris.

he is being like water

I was thinking the same... but that can be said for most artists
Steve Gadd always does the same signature fills and grooves...u can tell the voice of David Gilmore's strat.. but I agree with your original point
No, it’s not you. He’s overrated
@@John-zt6ywmy goodness
He's a killer at what he does. Step up to the kit let's see what you can do!

He always reminds me of jim brewer
He definitely looks the part but hes better on drums that Jim is as a comedian...lol

He's better than Bob Knuth on UA-cam

Beautiful drums and playing, although personally, I prefer less cymbals in the solos..
I presume he’s using his signature brass snare..
Somebody took they’re adderall today. He’s bad ass tho still tweaking. Lol
For Sure!..lol
