Two genre legends sharing a tender moment. You got to give it to GLT for managing to meet an iconic figure not just in horror, but all indie cinema, just when that window was closing. Fare Thee Well, Master Romero - even death couldn't distill your impact!
I'm so glad Romero brought up something that doesn't get mentioned as much as other things: Ben was WRONG. Ben is likeable, cool under pressure, intelligent but, ultimately, he was wrong. In fact, he was just as bullheaded and stubborn as Cooper, he just wasn't as big an asshole. In fact, the whole point of the Ben/Cooper story is if they had only worked together everything would've possibly worked out. Instead they were both so "my way or nothing", it pretty much made any chance of survival impossible. Anyway, great conversation between two incredible filmmakers.
I have watched every Romero interview under the sun, and this is by far the most honest and far reaching interview into Romero's career and life that I have ever seen. Beautiful interview, Guillermo. ❤
I truly love George's body language. He has his arms crossed and he is hugging himself throughout the interview. He is being given credit where he doesn't seem to believe it's due. George tries to express his experience in a Tolstoy-ian manner. He seems to try to say, "I was making a film with some of the concepts you have ascribed, but, you have "read into it 20 years of your own beliefs". Guillermo is incredibly intelligent and George seems to be trying to get Guillermo to understand George didn't plan all of what Guillermo "sees" in his films. This is Tolstoy's "War and Peace" statement. War is a explision of violence which is later written up as a incredibly heroic set of actions resulting in Victory. George, arms hugging himself, seems to be saying, "Dude, I wish I could take credit for a quarter of what you think I did." But, George is honest. He doesn't want to be a hero of a genre, he wants to be a independent films Artist... ( Of course I could be Entirely Wrong too)
I think you are exactly right and the beautiful thing is the contrasting confidence of Guillermo to reply, "It is all true and you deserve the praise and credit." These are the kind of interviews I love hearing.
@@PaulSharpequalrights Dear friend. Mr. Romero among all his movies Dawn of the dead & Night of the living dead, These films are classic in history of cinema. In my opinion no one has reached to this level.
He said the weirdest thing he's ever autographed was a pack of brains and my friends are the people he's talking about. I want to be able to post them honestly because of how cool this is
I love Romero's Italian accent for Dario Argento. I can totally imagine this great Italian director of slasher horror movies calling you up and saying just like Dracula, "My name Dario Argento. So you want to make another Night of the Dead movie?"
Hello! English is a second language, so there's only one thing that I didn't catch. When Del Toro is talking about the judeochristian interpretation of films Romero says something at 36:44 and laughs. And it makes Del Toro say "thank you". What did Romero say? I listened a lot of times and I can't get it.
Opening credits said Arrow Video so, based on that, the scope of the interview and when it was recorded, probably was a bonus feature on the Between Night and Dawn boxed set Arrow released.
Romero has to go down in history as one of the most modest and self-deprecating men that has ever lived. Just unbelievably humble.....
I love how Guillermo insists he take credit for the genre 😂😂😂
Absolutely right and he was easily the most unpretentious filmmaker of all time.
This is gold. What a conversation.
As a horror movie enthusiast, this is one of the most amazing interviews I have ever watched in my entire life....RIP Mr. Romero...

This has to be one of the best interviews I’ve stumbled upon. 2 legendary filmmakers!

Good interview between these two directors I'm a fan of. Glad Guillermo asked about Day of the Dead, a favorite Dead film.
Absolute pleasure to see the wonderful heartfelt effection from both these men. A real treat.
Thanks for uploading father of the Zombie & legend director Mr. George Romero's interview. Very informative. Love from India.
How was the hero wrong/ Explain.

Thanks. Better than keeping this buried on an expensive limited edition dvd. Excellent for research and education

Wow...two titans shooting the shit....bravo...👍❤️
Once again using your brilliant video essay in my Cinema Studies course.
One of the greats.Night and Dawn of the Dead(78) are two of the finest horrors.Knightriders,Martin,The Crazies(70s)and Creepshow are also fine.
Great interview, what a man.

Fantastic interview!
I miss George.
Two great directors …
No Fast Zombies! Sheer unadulterated brilliance.
To use a phrase Romero always used. Fast zombies suck and slow zombies rule!
6 horror films are talked about---
Martin
Night of living dead
Dawn of the dead
Day of the dead
Crazies
Monkey shines
the basement was the safest place...
Well if the remake is anything to go by the attic was even safer.
The cellar....the cellar lol

Hi, I'd like to know where this interview was originally released? Dvd? Channel? Streaming?
Thank you so much for making it available.
Opening credits said Arrow Video so, based on that, the scope of the interview and when it was recorded, probably was a bonus feature on the Between Night and Dawn boxed set Arrow released.
Amazing to me that everyone in the world disses the USA but everyone in the world wants to be there.
Toro: so it was about race?
Romero: no
👍
