@@vwcoco hey bud! Things are good. Opened my own shop finally, my friend and I are trying our handle at the UA-cam stuff again. How’s things over there?
I don’t know what the record is, but I had a 70 Beetle back in the early 80s and I removed the engine so many times that I could get it out in less than an hour with a couple of jack stands and a jack. Keep up the great efforts.

Congratulations Jay you have done it. The world record is all your man. I am so proud of you. I felt your pain and I clapped when you finished your struggle. If they gave out medal s ,you would get the gold.
My son is rebuilding a 57 rag top. He has a new big motor for it and has changed it 12 volt. It's going to perform like a hotrod but look old with all new paint, chrome, interior, and a chosen color of his liking. It will be beautiful.
Brother, that was one of the most frustrating videos I ever watched. I was so glad to see that engine finally drop. Back in the day I used to help a friend work on VW's as well as my own. I'm proud of you because I would have been using so many "4 letter" words the camera would have had to have been stopped. I'm sure you used them but we didn't hear them. Great job my man.
My first car was a ten year old ‘59 convertible, it still had an oval window. My 3rd was a ‘59 panel van with the small rectangular rear window. The little windows are just cool.
Exact same thing happened with our ‘68. Car had been sitting for 20+ yrs. Spent 3 days trying to get out. Engine seized, would not turn. Ended up pulling starter and sprayed 2 cans of pb blaster onto the flywheel/clutch/slave. Came back the next day, rocked it around and it came out. Crazy amounts of corrosion on the flywheel/trans case. Cleaned up flywheel, removed clutch, reinstalled and it fired right up! Good luck!
Feels so good to see I am not the only one that is struggling from time to time. These old cars that have been sitting can really get your blood cooking. Good to see you don't give up easily
As hard as that engine was to remove that looks to be a relatively very clean body! Also shout out to Dub on his masterful timing and plug wire placement!
Well Done Jason, If it's any consolation, same as yourself I've fitted / removed many VW engines over the years - I just had a similar problem putting a 36HP Engine into my 58' it had been engine less and off the road since 1979 and the freshly rebuilt 36HP Just would not go in at all - several hours later and after a lot of persuasion and swearing it finally went in! Keep up the great Videos!!
I watched you struggle to get the engine out. I congratulate you for you determination and perseverance. The body is a little crusty but when you are done, it will be a beautiful Bug. I would love to see a full restoration, but you make the decision.
Great video, I loved it. Your persistence and dedication to the task is second to none 5150, I really admire both of those qualities in you. Nothing will defeat you. I have pulled several old VW engines, and it always takes me twice as long as it should. But I like to go slow and methodical in the process. Got to admit I have never, had an engine that stubborn to come out. I sure would have been cursing and a hot temper would start flare up. I would have, had to walk a way, to cool off for a few. Never worked on VW's only older American cars from the 50's, 60's, and 70's. However I know the frustration. My cousin always said the bigger the job the bigger the hammer.
Years back i bought beautiful 67 bug. The owner said the clutch didn't work, you'd just it in when the engine was running and the car would still take off, and when hit the clutch you could still feel the pressure plate. Come to find out the trans output shaft welded itself to the pilot bearing in the crank. When I was all done fighting the engine removal I had to replace the trans because it broke the C-clip and pulled the output shaft out with the motor. So I kinda feel your pain.😢 😂 😢
I bought a 1600 sp, It was on an irs transaxle, just the back half of the pan sitting there, in a garage for 40 years. Should have been a 3 min unbolt and load into my truck. One of the bottom studs had bad bimetal corrosion, we fought with it for an hour, getting about a 2mm gap between the case and transaxle. Out came the sawzall. I've pulled a lot of VW engines, that was the first time I had encountered that. First 2/3 of your video I kept thinking, just cut the studs, ha ha.
well I'm sorry to say it but that is GREAT to hear . It took me forever just to get that gap for the sawzall ....not to mention your brain is like I shouldn't need a sawzall for this 3 minute wiggle and drop haha.....

The .old transmission shaft stuck on the clutch trick right Jason. Remove engine nuts and the starter and put the old panther piss right to he pilot shaft and clutch disc and let it work for a while get a regular floor jack center it over the oil drain plate and take off the weight a little wiggle and jiggle and it all comes out.😁👍
hi Will, yes I did all that , I used the gopro to film in there and I forgot to upload the footage for the edit🤦♂️. I pulled the starter and sprayed a can of PB in there . Had a long rod and mini sledge to the flywheel through the starter hole for 20 minutes , nothing . I used the floor jack multiple times and multiple times had it level but would get ZERO movement on the bottom studs. I was hoping they would just snap off when i went nutty on it multiple times , thus the nice landing zone of the lift table. This was the severely edited version as you could only watch me wiggle it side to side, jack it , smack it, cuss it, drop it , cut it so many times🤣👍. Thank you for being here in the comments since the beginning :)....it was the studs that were stuck

I have a 58 36hp motor ready to throw in but I'm in Michigan. Would trade it for a decent dual port 1600.
OK! I've never seen a beetle have a prostate exam... until now 😆
Wait until you and I work on the 77 FI engine 😁
@@5150mxVW bring it on! VW / Bosch fuel injection Clinic at 5150s shop... and there's a 63 ragtop that needs a little mechanical attention. It's funny watching a body man try to do a will it run😆🤣
Jump House action, Chain Gang sounds, My new medication causes me to be "calm and relaxed" as well Jason 😅🤣😂, awe c'mon Jason, buddy, pal, friend.....I was just kidding..., use of Really Large Crack Pipes, Pro Wrestling, Acupuncture, wrenched backs, nearly torn rotator cuffs, more tugging and pulling than movies I have seen 😵💫 , and the Me hitting the "That Was Easy" button at the end of "Extrication of the Engine", the movie, also known as "Ground Hog Day' 😁. Who could ask for anything more, hehehehe. Thanks for the great video Jason. John here, from the back-roads of Northeastern Tennessee. Take care......
What a work, finally is out. Nice
thank you JcF
Nice work sir! Wife was watching with me, she only watches you and mustie1, and stated "with that lid, you look like Keanu Reeves!". P.S. she likes when you're clean shaven!
P.S.S. I told her you were married! LOL!
Have a great week.
haha, that is good stuff !!! ...it will be hard to please her and Jen as Jen likes the hair long and the face scruffy . More bad news for your Wife, I won't be doing any stunt double work on John Wick 4 after this measly 36hp'R kicked my arse :). You Guys have a great week as well, thank you for the comment and checking out my latest box office smash hit lol.
I could not help thinking wouldn't it be easier to drop the whole thing to separate the engine from transmission and put everything back on the car ?? Because how long did it take you to get the engine out ??? And how long if you dropped the whole thing to get the engine off and put back on ????
You capture misery and frustration more completely than any VW channel on UA-cam.
🎥 and have a 🤬'ing blast doing it 😎
You are truly the king of realism. That’s why I subscribe!
That was a heck of a fight sir. Was funny though.God bless
Bro, your hung up on the shaft. The clutch is holding it in.
