Me personally, am a little baby and just reread books I loved before or those I KNOW I will like. Because if I have a bad January, it will hocuspocus the rest of the year.
My January was also...mediocre. I had a lot more 2 and 3 star books than 4 and 5. But in the vein of graphic novels being a surprising win, my best book of the month was a manga, I Want to Be a Wall Vol 2, which was just absolutely fantastic. Truly a perfect aroace marriage of convenience story.

I read They Came to Slay in December, and I completely agree with you ! I could not get over how repetitive the book was ! He took, "Character creation is a great tool to explore identity and sexuality", and made that the main point of every. single. paragraph. I was just waiting for him to say something else, but it never happened. There's also one line in the book where I had to stop and reread it because I could not believe it was included. I was so happy to get this book, but it just was not what I was expecting; both as a D&D player, and as a queer person.

My favorite book is Kings of the Wyld..I've reread it 4 times and everytime I laugh, cry, and have all the feels. I would not recommend reading the second book. To me it does not have the same feelings as the first one. Kings of the Wylde will get me out of a reading slump, Bloody Rose will put me in a reading slump
Glad to hear I wasn't the only one who's January didn't go that well, reading wise. Best rating I gave all month was a 7/10 and I read 10 books.
😄 I've been meaning to read Kings of the Wyld so long. But currently reading The Palace Job by Patrick Weekes, which has a similar assembly of team for reason, hijinks and twists ensue. So I should probably finish that first. It has airships (a weakness of mine), and main characters of color, and actually shows racism towards humans of color instead of pushing it off on other species like many fantasies I've read. But mostly it's just a fun quick read so far.
I read the first... 120 ish episodes of Lore Olympus in about a day or two when I found the web comic, and I adore it so much, and am so happy that this story is reaching a new audience with the graphic novels. 😊
I did really well in January but oh boy February is rough for me. I think because Feb is shorter, I already feel there is a lot less time so my brain is like "don't even bother this month" 😭
I still have a post it note over the cover of the second Sweet Pea book because you told me to years ago. Loved Sweet Pea but never got aound to the second one!!

I totally agree about Several People are Typing. I read the first couple of pages at the bookstore and thought it was funny and picked it up. It got weird and messy. And something I just couldn't get past were the PAGES of emojis between the other office romance that was almost all of their conversations. The horror elements with the howling that just didn't make sense. And yes, that consent scene... A friend and I read it as a buddy read and discussed it over burritos and were both left with a hmmmmmm kind of sentiment.

My January started out great. Made it through my full TBR by the 15th and was able to get books from the library to mood read. Then I feel and broke my shoulder and needed surgery and was not able to to focus or hold a book. it is getting better now but still can't hold a book. At this point I am just hoping to get to March 9th when hopefully most of my restrictions are lifted and am leaning into audio and ebooks.
Lore Olympus is my favourite thing!! I've only read the first one though, need to get to the rest of the series☺My most loved reads in January were Piranesi, Here the world entire, The gap of time, Alone with you in the ether and The library at mount char. Had a very good reading month😍
Of course we will be nice to you with the unfinished series we will just gently push you towards our favourites. 😊

My January went really well, I tried a new series and flew through it, it was great (Medoran Chronicles, first book is weak but the rest more than makes up for it). The problem is now I'm in a terrible book hangover and don't like anything else I've tried. :(
As for Kings of the Wyld, I read it for a book club and ended up having to read the last third in one day to catch up, so I assumed the dragging on was from the rush to finish. I think I read somewhere that it's like a DnD campaign in this different band type world, and I think if you view it like that the small episodic side things make more sense/are less annoying. That being said I've also had the sequel for a few years and haven't touched it, so there's that too. 😅
