I saw portnoy with Neal Morse in May in Barcelona, after Neil Morse he play with Sons of Apolo and then Rock and Rio, and now with Petrucci, he is and outstanding human being and always playing in a perfect way.
Wow... Never thought I’d see these two together on a stage again. Amazing. There’s some early DT vibe here. If only Kevin Moore would join, I’d be in heaven.
When you make & grew with this kinda progressive rock music together, that chemistry remains.. anytime.. be it 12 years or so .. great to see you guys back performing together 👏👏👍👍🤘 #Staysafe ♥️
Guys, this is not MP’s music- he has to be respectful and support JP, not make it about his chops. He’s playing with great restraint here, in service to the music. Great quality video, thanks for the share.
Thanks! I figured there would be some JP solo fans who'd be eager to hear how this was going to go live. The answer is extremely well!! And I totally agree, Mike is showing expert musicianship and personal restraint to ensure everything he plays serves JP's vision and doesn't steal too much of the spotlight. I was thoroughly impressed with every aspect of their interplay.
Not only is awesome that JP and MP are playing together, JR isn’t there. Rudess is badass but it is refreshing to hear Petrucci without the keys. Love the trio.
That's a huge stage compared to Berklee. They were packed like a sardine can there. Great show, both bands. Mike had plenty of places in the set to add his chops. He did it all in great taste. He did not try to steal the show from John at all. Like others have mentioned though, Mike is a showman, John is not.
At those points, Mike is going between triplet and straight time, but making two of the three triplets the eight notes in the following time signature... and then back. It's a neat math trick, and is like an M C Escher drawing for your mind. It makes more sense on the album when JP is doubling that with rhythm guitars. I think Dave may have covered that bit, but due to the stereo front-of-house mix and my position at far audience right it got a bit lost there.
Ok…. I know and realize that DT won’t just kick out Mangini and also understand why. But can someone in this planet hear me out…. DT is about to celebrate like 35 years? Why not do some shows with two Mikes and two drum sets for some mind blowing Dreamtheater classics!!! After all a lot of those gems are Mike Portnoys babies.
Hii everyone, if you enjoyed his video, you will enjoy my roblox edits! So he has a daughter named Mimi, and I am Mimi’s best friend. I can’t believe that he got famous!! This is so cool!
This tour is gonna be so fckn dope John and Mike jamming again and then you get me larue on bass oh fck yeah I've been following him since he played with the Dixie dregs
Portnoy plays the song so much more easier then on the album. And he messes up a lot of complex time changes. Its like he lost his will to play technically
It’s cool to see these Dream Theater drummers (old and new) pairing down those monster kits tEy used to play to something that looks a little more what us ‘normal’ drummers would play…and still crushing it.
I mean, Portnoy played DT with Sheehan, Macalpine and Sherinian, so it’s not like he’s opposed to it on principle. But the lack of keys would be an issue.
@@Avisale well it’s still warms my heart to see them together. It’s amazing. And I’m still excited as hell to see them in November. And you always have the old music if you want to go listen to that
Hii everyone, if you enjoyed his video, you will enjoy my roblox edits! So he has a daughter named Mimi, and I am Mimi’s best friend. I can’t believe that he got famous!! This is so cool!
I think it was a little over an hour and a half. As John said in interviews, it was entirely focused on his solo album material, which I love! Totally different to either DT or LTE.
Caught the show in Boston. I have to say they all look incredibly bored on stage. Even Mike looks disinterested and going through the motions. I have been a fan since they started and understand that John is not the type to run around the stage. In addition, John was playing behind an incredible amount of delay that was overbearing.
When DT did the drummer audition reality tv-ish BS, I really liked Marco Minnemann and Vergil Donati. The parts of the video where they complained about Virgil trying to do something a little different was kinda BS. That's something that can be talked through and didn't need to be an end all. He definitely can play the material as it was just say "hey play it as is". Mangini's composition is good but everything else is really cringe. Whole thing felt staged and seemed like they were set on Mangini from the get go.
Would like to see these guys play again but $100 is a little too steep to see what’s basically a 90 minute jam session. The musicianship is excellent but tedious to watch for 90 straight minutes.
yeah but the thing is that you’re not paying for the music, you’re paying 90$ to see the JP&MP experience again, that’s what the crying fanboys wanted to see and that’s what it cost you to get a ticket, even a DT ticket is cheaper lol
@Cat360 This shows that great musicians do not a great show make. Portnoy’s holding back and not being the showman he usually is because he doesn’t want to steal the spotlight from John. The problem is that despite being one of the greatest guitar players in the world, JP is no showman. LaRue is just riding the bus.
Great to see JP and MP playing back together!
Yes it is! There's a special magic when those two play together.
@@steveunruh8650 Absolutely! The core DT duo, chemistry that started somewhere in the mid 80s and is still there!

Whenever I watch'em play together, my heart warms.
The last time I saw Mike and John play on the same stage was the falling into infinity tour, sounds so good
The world's best drummer and a guitarist who is one of the world's absolute best...
Shoutout to the guy chillin behind the bass cabinets.

These 2 together makes me just sit in awe
mike always sounds nice, even from the phone
Glad Mike is bringing the Stax with this kit. Sounds great.👍
I'm going to see them this Saturday October 15 here at the Lincoln theater in Washington DC.
Great show! My son, best friend, and I were loving every second of it!
Last time I saw MP and JP together on stage was the 6DOIT tour.

And that's the song that Mike said "is a bitch to play."
Makes me want to see Caleb Drummer try it.
Especially the intro, salute to Mike because this is not his style but he's still sounding nice
When Portnoy threw his stick😂
It's Portnoy just fricking launching his stick for me lol

JP waiting for MP fills to change parts 😂😂

Is it just me or did Mike do very weird transitions between time signature changes? It lacks any flow.

It's pretty much live 3-piece arrangements of his two solo albums, and it's awesome :). Loved how differentiated this was from either DT or LTE
Portnoy plays the song so much more easier then on the album. And he messes up a lot of complex time changes. Its like he lost his will to play technically

Petrucci knows James Labrie won’t be able to keep up much longer that’s why he’s working on his side projects
He hasn’t been able to keep up for 20 years let’s be honest
