Grandpa H always said the only way to break in a new tractor is to plow with it. Guess thats why we always got the new ones in late winter. Nice story Andy - thanks.
nice story. that's what make life great i mean a memory for you and a memory for your nephews, and of coarse your own kids will pass things down after were gone. Kip, Big Daddy we remember!
Great story Andy. I plowed 19 years with a 4450. Dad bought it new in 1983. Also traded in a 4440. I started plowing with a 4000 Deere in the 70’s. Dad always said a good plowing job makes it much easier to work down for planting. I am all No-till now, got tired of picking rocks.
As head mechanic of a large ranch/farm I really liked this. Our Oliver ( perkins diesel) and our Case 2670 and the Ford 9030 BD did all the hard work. Lots of ground to cover. I was the driver of the big JD airseeder ( wheat). Those JDs never miss a beat. Excellent!
Good story from yesteryear! I was probably a little older, 14 years old in 1962, plowing with a 1939 Farmall H with a little gypsy two bottom 14" plow turning over oats stubble which was the easiest to learn on. Dad always wanted to run the plow as deep as possible, no hydraulics so you had to keep an eye on the depth and adjust manually and then constantly moving the hillside hitch to keep the farrow turning over evenly, he didn't want to see any gaps there either. Good memories plus I got out of the evening milking!
1987, I was eleven. 1977 JD 4430 and a melroe 911 5/16 plow. Many days after school. Started plowin that year close to the end of March. I remember dad dualed up the 44 after I was done that spring to put on the press drill outfit. May 10th, he unhooked from the drill to get out of the gate at one field, by the time he got to the road the front wheels were standing still, pushing snow. Just thought I would share! That green paint looked awesome Andy!!!
Great videos I enjoy watching. I grow up around farms my father was Agriculture teacher and a feed and seed salesman I would go with him on the farms when I got older I would help out haying and other things . Your videos being back memories . Thank’ s for sharing. Tim from Wisconsin Dairyland 🧀🧀
Moldboard plowing was my favorite thing to do next to chopping corn when I worked on my uncles dairy farm. We plowed with 2 tractors our biggest tractor was a MF 285 that pulled 4 16’s and our next biggest tractor was a MF 175 it pulled 4 14’s both plows were masseys also. No cabs. We milked about 90 Holsteins in a 30 staunchin barn. Thanks Andy
Cheers Andy, That takes me back to 1978! A while ago!! I was 19 years old driving a 4020 with a 5 furrow knvernland semi mounted plough with hydraulic crossshaft, which I liked a lot. We did a lot of ploughing with this combination and with a lot of practice I became quite proficient. A most satisfying job to take pride in with experience. Thanks for this one 👍 Done, catch the next.
When I was 10 years old, I moldboard plowed with a Farmall "M" gas tractor and a John Deere 3-14" bottom plow. When I was 11 years old the following year, we graduated up to an Oliver 1850 gas tractor with an Oliver 5-14" bottom plow. Sometimes I would get to run my Uncle's John Deere 4020 diesel tractor with a John Deere 5-16" bottom plow. Moldboard plowing was one of my favorite things to do. Just put the pedal to the metal, and let 'em roar.
I remember the first time dad let me drive, was to a NH square baler while he stacked on the wagon. I was only 5-6 and so small I couldn't push the big clutch pedal down on our 2-135 White. Dad would start it and jump off and to stop I just killed the engine by the key. Up until then, I was pretty much inside that tractor riding along anytime it was doing field work. I remember riding from dawn til dark, days plowing with dad every spring. Plowing has always been one of my top favs.
Great story, thanks for sharing. I was 14 the first time I got turned loose with the plow. 3010 diesel wide front with a fully mounted 3 bottom kvernland. I was in heaven.
Your right moldboard plowing is an art. That’s really cool that you guys still do it. Growing up we had I believe an eight bottom that we pulled with the Minneapolis Moline plainsman articulator I can still remember that like it was yesterday
Seeing someone plowing in Eastern Iowa would be a rare sighting. I remember as a kid my dad with a 5 bottom plow pulled by a 7020 Allis Chalmers? Thanks for sharing 👍
Love this, I come here when I'm having a bad day, always makes me feel better. '69 or '70 for me, grandpa's JD60 and 3 14s. Riding high I was at 11 or 12. Still have the tractor, don't know what happened to the plow. Thanks Andy, I mean it. Best regards from Indiana.
I used to plow with a John Deere 5020 that had an "M & W" turbo with a straight pipe. Neighbors could hear it a mile away. Love the smell of freshly turned ground!
I loved plowing. The sounds the smells. Everything was drowned out by the tractor noise. I wrote a lot of stories in my head while plowing. I learn to plow with a 350 International gas with a 4 bottom plow. Also use an old Farmall M using a three bottom plow. This brings back a lot of memories. 💜
Hah, my dad got our 4620 and 5-bottom plow out in the field today. First time that plow's been used in years, since we chisel plow most everything now. It was neat to see it done the old-fashioned way, though. At 1:31, it looks like the guy in the 4450 was having 'fun' trying to keep that tractor going forward and straight in the furrow. I'm glad that wasn't me.
The smell of fresh earth and diesel fuel! We pulled 12 and 16 bottom plows with late 70's Whites and Steigers. I love seeing a row of tractors belching exhaust and rolling furrows over. Takes me back to my youth.
Cool to see you doing that Andy! I just plowed a field that hadn't been used in a few years a couple days ago. I used my 5055 and an old JD 3 bottom to do it. I was really surprised how well it worked. I even went through an old fence row I had just pulled some pretty big trees out of, and I went real slow, and it cut and pulled all the little roots right out! I disced it up and then went over it with a chain harrow to gather the chopped up roots. Going to plant some hay in it just to have it green and maybe bale next year.
Nice story Andy about some times past. Good to see the "old" way of tilling the soil and maybe bring some stories for the new generation. Family makes the farm work whether in the tractor or milking cows. Keep up the good work!
Started riding with my grandpa when I was 5 years old on a JD A with 3-14 mounted plow. First gear, maybe 2 mph. He would keep adjusting until it plowed perfect furrows. A bad job of plowing meant you were a bad farmer. Those were good times.
My first was on a B popping John with a pull type plow with the old tripping rope. I had a good time even it was sort of hard to pull. Thanks for the video, enjoyed it.
Nice video, when I was a kid, plowed a lot of clay ground with JD G and a MM four bottom (14”). That G had power. In the hills we threw chains on. Still have the tractor and plow.
We sold our last plow to a young guy starting out near Ottawa 2 years ago. He loaded it in a trailer and turned around and drove the 7 hours home again. It was dusk when he left here and he didn’t have any lights on the trailer. Drove the 401 home and made it. That’s my plowing story for today. Thanks for your video andy.
The 4620 looked a little small in front of that big ol plow! Great video, Andy. Those tractors bellow plenty loud with those straight pipes on. Sounded awesome!
one of the things i miss most about growing up on the farm is plowing , it was always satisfying getting the field done and dead furrows all fluffed in smooth
It is nice to see a Kevernland plow. My Dad owned one for quite a few years. We also called it a Dakon plow. It was nice when we plowed alfalfa because we could easily lift up 1 or 2 bottoms.
Andy- you need helper springs on your Kverneland-the bottoms are in a partially tripped position all the time which makes it a lot tougher pulling than it should. Kverneland makes a great plow!
Back in the day when I was a farmhand we did all the cotton ground (5,000 + acres ) that way but we double disked the soybean ground . But that was then and this now a entirely different story .Awe yea we would 2 shifts doing this ! Just keep on hammering on it !
Having the great drone shots really adds to the pleasure of watching the ground turned over with the moldboards.. only better if driving the tractor doing the plowing.
Great story Andy on the first chance that you had plowing under Grandpa's assurance that you could do it. I was 13 my first chance on a friends Dad's farm.. he had a Ford 8N with mounted two-bottom plow, while I was on a Farmall McCormick F-12 pulling 2 12" bottoms.. prolly 1/2 mile an hour if that fast. But fun!
Last time I ploughed was with a three furrow reversible on a mf 590. I was in and out of that cab like a fiddlers elbow to make sure those furrows were perfect. Papa bear insisted on it. Defo an art to ploughing. I was 17 then and 47 now. Would love to do it again but its contracted out nowadays. Pipes sound great by the way. 🚜👍
Pulling plows are where those Diesel engines sound best, those Green tractors sound good! My first plowing was with a 641 Ford with a two bottom ford plow. I was about 16 and made movie money plowing gardens and disc for people. That was 40 years ago! Still have the 641 ford tractor. Runs like a sewing machine.
Awesome video. We haven't used our 6 bottom keverland plows in about 4-5 years. Beats the crap out of the tractor and parts are expensive. Faster to use the chisils but mowbourds do nice jobs on hay fields.
Bruce still works for cazenovia eqpt. He's at the chittenango store. He's old, just like us. I have a 67 c10 with cherry bombs and I may be cruising around your area. If you notice it get my attention and I can supply liquid refreshments. Thanks for your videos
I spent many an hour in the furrow as my Dad would say. When the ground started to freeze we’d hitch a second tractor up to the plow tractor to help. Truly simetry in motion.
We hooked on to our moldboards for the first time in 2 years. Personally i could live without needing to use them again lol. A little slow for my liking. Was watching the neighbor while i was mowing yesterday
Great job Andy, Those boys will be telling someone in about 30 years how they all plowed that field together. Plus they will have your video as proof. God Bless You All.
Awesome video! The 8320 sounds decent but it reminds me of a 4th Gen Cummins Ram where it just doesn't have that old-school diesel sound.....you can't beat the sound of the older Deere's
We don't get to do alot of turning plowing down here anymore. All no till min till. Luv that smell tho. The 46 looks like could use a few slabs all around 🤔.cool video keep them coming 👍
late 90's i first turned dirt with a MF 165 and 3-14 in hard clay. We finished that year with the JD 1120 pulling the MF165 as it had rained and greased up. Last time i plowed was in a JD 7700 with MF 880 5-18, following a JD 7810 with 6 bottom kverneland. Sadly no straight pipes though.
Great video Andy I'm having trouble keeping up now that we are in hay season we have 12 days so we will be hammering away at the first cutting got 100acres in today hopefully we can get a couple of hundred acres in this week
A lot of green power there. Just like seeing this. I wish I could get the smell of dirt and engines thru internet. Nice seeing the Kverneland plough, as it is a Norwegian brand I learnt. I think a few farmers over here in Sweden are starting to convert their farms into organic farms and thereby starting to use the moldboard plows again. Thanks for the video.
I was sitting on my cousin porch when our new JD 530 drove by with a new 3 disc plow. I was 5 years old. That’s the outfit l learned to plow with later on. Big tractor won sound contest.
I started on a Oliver 70, narrow front and a 2bottom 14 inch pull type plow. I could barely reach the clutch peddle and had to stop at each end and every water way to trip the plow. No hydraulics back then. I am now 69 years young and still miss it.
Great story, great memories. And to think back we did all our plowing with a two bottom three point hitch on the back of our Ford 800. OMGosh times have changed. I would love to come back and plow for a day or two....
You are right plowing is an art. A lost art as a matter of fact. Nobody plows any more. I took my Farmall A and the 1 bottom plow out and plowed my hayfield this spring. I think plowing does the ground some good. Helps with weeds and disease.
The first time I plowed was with a JD 4230 pulling 4-16 , but I had a lot of fender time on a 460 Farmall. . Yup still miss moldboard plowing but only a little.
Awesome video andy that 83 has a good bark to it. Good story to bring back some memories, i remember being about 12 getting a lesson on plowing with our jd 50 2cyl and a old 2 bottom jd trailer plow good times
I never got lessons on plowing when a kid. Discing and dragging and then packing. Dad did the plowing. I pull 3-14 with my/dads/moms dad 57 JD 520. The ol girl needs freshened up but for our ground i pull in 4th sometimes and other times 3rd
Andy need to teach Jr how to fine a clear up. Started in 63 with a MF 85 with 6 14" real plowing in a art time for JR won't learn any young. Keep up the good work
Grandpa H always said the only way to break in a new tractor is to plow with it. Guess thats why we always got the new ones in late winter. Nice story Andy - thanks.
I can remember him saying that
nice story. that's what make life great i mean a memory for you and a memory for your nephews, and of coarse your own kids will pass things down after were gone. Kip, Big Daddy we remember!
Yes indeed

Love that 4620 heck of powerhouse when it was new and still is.
The 4620 is a beast, love those tractors, tough, agile and reliable.

Quite a show, enjoyed seeing the plows together. Thanks for the drone views.
Cheers Andy, That takes me back to 1978! A while ago!! I was 19 years old driving a 4020 with a 5 furrow knvernland semi mounted plough with hydraulic crossshaft, which I liked a lot. Great story, thanks for sharing. I was 14 the first time I got turned loose with the plow. 3010 diesel wide front with a fully mounted 3 bottom kvernland. I was in heaven.
I can smell that fresh turned soil from West TN ... thanx 4 da memories
Your right moldboard plowing is an art. That’s really cool that you guys still do it. Growing up we had I believe an eight bottom that we pulled with the Minneapolis Moline plainsman articulator I can still remember that like it was yesterday
This should also be called, JD old school tractor power. Wow 4450 brand new and still in the family. 84 I was young. Nice story.
Seeing someone plowing in Eastern Iowa would be a rare sighting. I remember as a kid my dad with a 5 bottom plow pulled by a 7020 Allis Chalmers? Thanks for sharing 👍
Ya 5-16 is a good match up to the 7020. That's what we use to this day
Love this, I come here when I'm having a bad day, always makes me feel better. '69 or '70 for me, grandpa's JD60 and 3 14s. Riding high I was at 11 or 12. Still have the tractor, don't know what happened to the plow. Thanks Andy, I mean it.

"just gonna be a plowing video" … lol. This is on of the best videos out there. The diesel growl is awesome.
I used to plow with a John Deere 5020 that had an "M & W" turbo with a straight pipe. Neighbors could hear it a mile away. Love the smell of freshly turned ground!

Thanks for sharing your memories Andy. Enjoyed it, brought back memories of my granddad and father. Thank you. Great video as always
Thanks Andy, your videos are always awesome and great to watch especially with all the craziness going on in the world these days. Cheers
Thanks
Awesome, going old school !! Something very satisfying watching moldboard plowing ? Thumbs up.
Thanks
Always loved moldboard plowing. Great feed. Thanks for bringing back memories

Don't see too much plowing anymore. Going through some old ones.
Gresat video - nice to see the older tractors out with the young guys
Thank you for sharing that story with us Andy! A very nice video, well done as always keep up the great work.

Brings back memories of when I used to plow Thanks for video and story keep up the good work
Sure enjoyed this video. Thank you so much for taking the time to put it together for us.
Nice story Andy about some times past. Good to see the "old" way of tilling the soil and maybe bring some stories for the new generation. Family makes the farm work whether in the tractor or milking cows. Keep up the good work!
Out there getting it done without a cab ! Proving once again your a bad ass!! Rock on Andy
That was jered

Great story! I love seeing multiple tractors in the same field moldboard plowing. I don't see much moldboard plowing anymore other than the Amish.
We sold our last plow to a young guy starting out near Ottawa 2 years ago. He loaded it in a trailer and turned around and drove the 7 hours home again. Things on Rouse Road looks good. Looks like the 4620 was a little stuck... moldboard plowing is a true art... great video
She needs tires
The 4620 looked a little small in front of that big ol plow! Great video, Andy. Those tractors bellow plenty loud with those straight pipes on. Sounded awesome!

Having the great drone shots really adds to the pleasure of watching the ground turned over with the moldboards.. only better if driving the tractor doing the plowing.
Great story Andy on the first chance that you had plowing under Grandpa's assurance that you could do it.

Some of the Best Memories we can have, are the Times we spent with our Grandparents doing all kinds of things.
For sure
Great video Andy. Looks great seeing those 3 tractors working together. Great sound coming out if that chrome pipe
There ears were ringing when they got done
Great growling tractors, greta video and a great story too!
Love listening to old farm memories and stories. Maybe you should buy a phone charger for every tractor as Andrew is always needing one lol.
So satisfying watching the plowing I had to watch it twice, excellent video mate 🚜🚜👍👍
4620 acts like it could use some front weights. Tis a lot ground turning right there. Great video, cheers :)
Weights and tires..... The more the front losses the more the rear gains

Man do they sound good!!! I could set and listen to them run alll day
Bruce still works for cazenovia eqpt. He's at the chittenango store. He's old, just like us. I have a 67 c10 with cherry bombs and I may be cruising around your area. If you notice it get my attention and I can supply liquid refreshments.
Thanks for your videos
I thought maybe he was still with Caz
Thanks for the memories, Andy.
Nice to see your nephew's in the field, a lot of good help on the horizon...👍👍
I spent many an hour in the furrow as my Dad would say. When the ground started to freeze we’d hitch a second tractor up to the plow tractor to help. Truly simetry in motion.
We hooked on to our moldboards for the first time in 2 years. Personally i could live without needing to use them again lol. A little slow for my liking. Was watching the neighbor while i was mowing yesterday
I hear ya
Very cool video Andy!
I loved the story about your Dad! Keep plowing
Perfect story and plowing video with awesome deeres
Great job Andy, Those boys will be telling someone in about 30 years how they all plowed that field together. Plus they will have your video as proof. God Bless You All.
Awesome video! The 8320 sounds decent but it reminds me of a 4th Gen Cummins Ram where it just doesn't have that old-school diesel sound.....you can't beat the sound of the older Deere's
Gotta love old fashioned plowing and straight pipes
It is a art.plow the opposite way next year. Usually you have to adjust a 3pt arm to get a nice throw on the furrow.
It is nice those young boys had a chance to run a moldboard plow since they never had a chance to do that before.
Has always I enjoyed, liked, shared. All my best to you and yours.
Nice memories Andy!
We don't get to do alot of turning plowing down here anymore. All no till min till. Luv that smell tho. The 46 looks like could use a few slabs all around 🤔.cool video keep them coming 👍
Great story! Reminded me of the first time I plowed.....Great times.
Nothing like the smell of freshly turned dirt. Love it
Plowing is my favourite work at farm, I use réversible plow, 5 or 8 bottom. Thanks for the video
late 90's i first turned dirt with a MF 165 and 3-14 in hard clay. We finished that year with the JD 1120 pulling the MF165 as it had rained and greased up.
Last time i plowed was in a JD 7700 with MF 880 5-18, following a JD 7810 with 6 bottom kverneland. Sadly no straight pipes though.
Nothing like good ole American Iron doing what it does best; working hard. Nice vid.
The old 4620 could use some new shoes. Awesome video. Reminds me of riding the 190xt with my dad.
Yes it could
Great video Andy I'm having trouble keeping up now that we are in hay season we have 12 days so we will be hammering away at the first cutting got 100acres in today hopefully we can get a couple of hundred acres in this week
Love the plowing video . . . . spent some time on a 4020 with 5/ 16s
That 8320 sounds amazing!!
I was 10 and use 2 bottom plow CA Allis Chalmers. I loved to plow or anything with a tractor. Lexington NC
I started on a Oliver 70, narrow front and a 2bottom 14 inch pull type plow. I could barely reach the clutch peddle and had to stop at each end and every water way to trip the plow. No hydraulics back then. I am now 69 years young and still miss it.
I’ve been looking for a video like this ,I finally found it good content and I’m now subscribing 🌱Happy Farming🌾
Thanks
Great story, great memories. And to think back we did all our plowing with a two bottom three point hitch on the back of our Ford 800. OMGosh times have changed.
I would love to come back and plow for a day or two....
Love the story Andy
You are right plowing is an art. A lost art as a matter of fact. Nobody plows any more. I took my Farmall A and the 1 bottom plow out and plowed my hayfield this spring. I think plowing does the ground some good. Helps with weeds and disease.
The first time I plowed was with a JD 4230 pulling 4-16 , but I had a lot of fender time on a 460 Farmall. . Yup still miss moldboard plowing but only a little.
4620 had the hardest job in the beginning . Plowing the roadway !
Joseph Lewandowski she got her done through
I like the 4450 I want 1 sounds great
It's great to see the kids help you farm. What age was Andrew turned loose on his own, & the girls?
Andrew was 8
Awesome video andy that 83 has a good bark to it.
Keep up the good work
Andy, the only thing missing, besides the Seaguls, is the smell of the freshly turned over earth !
