As a teenager I had the unenviable job of operating a Ford 4000 with duels pulling a 14 foot disk smoothing a low lying area that had never been farmed other than cow pasture. The entire area flooded every spring and had formed small mounds of roots and grass. In comes the Cat with a plow large enough to leave a furrow four feet deep. The Ford tractor with a wide front end and I went over the field in first gear working that plowed ground dropping 3 to 4 feet and back up over the unbroken clumps left on top of the turned over muck. I tried second gear and soon found out the soil was too rough so first gear all day long. 40 years later that land still produces the best silage corn ever.
I like how it's mixing the sand and muck very well as they plow. That's going to be awesome for using as a field now. The water is going to drain well and the sand is going to make the muck more manageable for farming. Plus they are not loosing the organic soil from the muck like putting the sand deep it's still slick when wet and hard when dry. They are fixing that permanently now.
That is just completely awesome can’t believe they started with wood and got into steel that’s just plain amazing congratulations on that plow that’s amazing I would love to see how that ground turned out after it is finished and producing a crop be awesome to watch how it goes step by step

That's a good question I don't think they have thought about that...I could get you prices on the way we do it with our methods it is expensive but it's worth doing
I've seen something similar where Italian farming using deep ploughing to fix some soils. I'm pretty sure there are some videos on you tube of them doing so. Dan
With the combination of a massive plowpan under the sand, the sand under that black dirt, and that ditch below the new grade.... i would think a very minor grade to that ditch would eliminate any need for tile reinstallation
Adding sand to firm up a whole lot of soil, those are some smart, creative farmers. Thats right up there as SO HOW FAR WOULD YOU GO TO FIX AN UNAREABLE FIELD?!?
Rolling sand to help compaction and drainage. Nice. Could have come along behind to throw green organics, charcoal and hardwood chips, and long release fertilizer blend in the trench but it's still cool to not. Mainly because things like that come after the field is done, looking at it then seeing all the stuff that could help the dirt be more. By that time it's an irritation to consider going back to re-turn but it'll stay nagging at the back of your thoughts until deep turn time again. That's when that thought will be the only thing that slept in. Keep gnarly out there.

Yes they hauled in sand from a nearby sand hill now they are rolling that under and mixing and bringing some muck which is full of organic material to the top and now the sand will act as a firm base and also they have raised the grade in this spot further away from the water table.... basically the same process as what we did in this video and a few other older videos of mine ua-cam.com/video/Fu8X1D-5Hvw/v-deo.html
I live in central Alberta and there are areas that have Solenexic sp.. soils. They have deep plowed it to try and improve the soil, I don’t know if it worked or not. I do know they built huge plows like that for the job. Very interesting.

3306 is a good engine, from truck to tractor to boat. I’m interested that the yield increase covers the transport costs of the sand. It’s clay here and it sheds water like a roof :o) Two mile over it is sand and gravel. Very different farming.

Can’t make out the name of the track machine with the plow mounted to it. It looks like a diesel locomotive on tracks. There is not a rock to be found in that field.
The track machine is a RWF which is now know as Bron made in Canada and the actual tile plow that is on the back is a KRAC plow well the parts that are holding the big plow basically the linkage that raises it up and down is all made by KRAC its similar to a Diesel Locomotive instead electric drive though it is hydraulic but I suppose there were some hydraulic drive Locomotives
The plow cuts a 4ft wide and can go close to 6ft deep. The little plow in the back takes a 2ft wide by 2ft deep cut out of the next pass to help with mixing the dirt.
@@RobertMareska Hello Robert M. : great idea! and such a amazing job creating this massive plow! having the correct pitch, angles, and depth to have it blend between the sand / muck, the muck that the equipment can get stuck in. it is such a difference once the sand is supporting the field. Brandon has shown that in some videos. plus you yield more crops with the rich soil that would otherwise would trap the field equipment.

I believe the one's over sea's is a lot larger than this one, of course over there, they have to do deep plowing, just look at their soil composition to compared to what we have here in the states. I know there are many farmers that will shake their head at doing this. Gotta turn that soil over every so often.

I may be wrong but that brown dirt looks like it was brought in and built up so that the ground wouldn't be compact ain't too hard two demonstrate this plow I can be wrong about that but I would like to see them demonstrated it on raw ground or you could tell the ground hasn't been messed with I'm not knocking what it's doing it seems like a pretty good one but a lot of fuel burn it up just for one flower right You would think the regular size plow would be a lot lighter plus the tractor be a lot lighter to be burn less fuel less maintenance what makes so bad look like to be cheaper that way if you're doing a good enough job What hey I'm but hey I'm not no farmer I used to work For a farmer too When did construction running heavy equipment so I know a little bit about dirt I'm just saying 🤔🤠

The purpose of the sand is to firm up the peat moss type soil that is extremely organic and raise the topography of the area to get it further from the water table so it will stay dry.....you simply missed it that is all

Years a go a farmer in our area tried to plow deep to get rid of disease that killed mint they said it helped but it wasn't a total cure for it

Back in the day, railroad s used a huge one bottom plow to build road beds.

Yes it's basically peat moss so very organic and soft but get some sand in it and it gets pretty firm

That's not the biggest sand plow I've seen, but is the first one I've seen on a tile plow.

For as high the water table was, it didn't look that wet when they went through with the plow.
Give it alittle bit of time and it will fill up water don't move real quick through muck it's like a clay but it's not

That plow will break the lift arm in no time. Somehow a way to stop the torsional stress on the arm will be needed. It’s a nice piece though
