100% agree. That's exactly my take on this Saab owner, his attitude and his build. What do you want to bet that in a few to five years he'll have some other mad build? Love it!
For me a big part of this videos is the conversation between Matt and the owner. And I must say that Cullen was a great co-driver/host and made the video very enjoyable:)
I"m with you, buddy. Part of what makes these builds interesting is the person who has either done the work or come up with the idea and funded the work. Sometimes you find some pretty cool folks.
They will, but not like Saab. The chinese bought the car brand Saab and will release it under a new name I think. It belive they're only going for electic vehicles though. Never been in a Saab, but I've allways been interested in an Aero. If they were still making cars, I'm sure I would own an 9-5 Aero now.
The Viggen is my benchmark for what I thought was fast about 10 years ago. I'll never forget how excited I was for 230ish HP haha. Keep this thing running!
Gald to see an owner, especially at that age, actually able to maintain a conversation regarding the modifications other then the generic garbage most people spout. Kid is going to go places if he keeps learning and putting in the work. Legit enthusiast.
LOVED LOVED LOVED this!! True Saab enthusiast here! Had a 9-3 convertible, 9-3 aero, and 9-5 aero. 9-5 aero shares the same engine as the Viggen. Great job with this and great job to the owner!
If he hadn't said he was 19 I would have assumed he was a young looking 24 or 25 in the way he talks and carries himself. Very smart kid and very impressive! Good on you Cullen this was cool man!
Hey Matt, this is Ian Whelan from the /DRIVE days. Nice video! I owned a 2002 Viggen coupe (black) and still own a 2000 coupe (blue) as a daily driver. The blue one is stock, but the black one had a few tweaks including a Quaife LSD. That LSD really transforms the car. It should have been installed from the factory as part of the Viggen package. You can get on the power earlier to pull out of corners without spinning tires, so you can drive with the throttle more. The LSD really lets you harness the power and torque that the car has much more effectively and makes it more fun on twisty roads. The black car was perfect, but I sold it to purchase my '87 911 coupe! Now it lives with another guy who collects Saabs. We're holding on to the blue car since it's so unique and still very fun to drive. Great road trip car.
Danyang Song Well tbh it’s “just” an aluminium steering brace, so it doesn’t completely change the character. But it does really tighten up the steering. It was put on my car some months back, and I’ve had a lot more confidence with the car ever since, in that regard it’s a must!
Was excited when I saw the Saab in the last video as Matt was starting the drive. Really happy to see it turned out to be a great video, awesome car, and a cool owner from my neck of the woods!
Videos like these is why I love your channel Matt, and it is not about the car - nor the owner. Or even the one-take concept. It's about you. Clearly you wouldn't choose a Saab yourself and having owned one myself I get that. As you said, you know if you want a Saab. Still, you have the self confidence to describe the car - it's strengths and it's weaknesses without trying to prove anything or discredit the owner. On the contrary you give credit to the owner where due, even if you don't like the particular flavour they have chosen, and are honest about shortcomings where needed. Not many hosts in the auto section of youtube manage this without developing rather unpleasant character traits. Thank you!
Congrats to Cullen for a fantastic build of an amazing car. Would love to have a JZW tuned Viggen one day [preferably in blue]. Cool guy and really cool car. Saabs are amazing. I love my 07 9-3 2.0T, JZW did a great job with my tune - it is quite quick.
It is not really worth a video, only minor mods and it is an automatic [wife's car]. Still love it though. There will be a video on my modified 1997 Alfa Romeo 155 V6 though, hopefully filming in August on this channel.
Saab was tuned by JZW Tuning. I got his mailed in PPC tuner and got a custom map emailed to me. Took a few back and forths to dial things in but really happy with the end result. Super easy and huge difference in the way the car drives. My Alfa is going to be rolling-road tuned in Toronto by Eurocharged.
I am with everyone else, very enjoyable episode. The kid knows his car isn't the greatest thing on the block but you can tell he loves it and is knowledgeable about his car unlike most people at that age. Good on you Cullen! your Saab is really awesome and I am sure is pretty quick.
Been living the SAAB life since 09' at 17 years of age. Started with 1999 9-3 SE with 80k. Now it has over 300k on the odometer with 360 bhp and 385 ft-lbs of torque. Nice to see a fellow SAAB tuner out there; keep the dream alive! Still searching for my perfect red 2-door Viggen or Aero 9-5 Manual Wagon.
Hey Cullen, great car man. I'd never have guessed it had so many miles, the interior looks perfect, exterior looks great, and that sound it makes is amazing. Hold onto it forever, that one is special.
Cullen you get my 100% respect. A 9-3 Viggen at your age is awesome, even keeping it running after a blown engine. Hope you have a lot of fun with this car. A 9-3 Aero has been my favorite car for so long, I didn't buy one for fear of having it be a hassle. When Saab went bankrupt I was heartbroken. Might get that 9-3 Aero still after watching this vid. After my ST200 gets too small for kids I'll be looking into the second hand market :)
This. Matt needs to experience those because I love the guy, but he's got kinda an outdated opinion on Saabs...they've evolved as the years went from the viggen and 900 years. This being because he's experienced too many true sports cars so the saabs of yore would feel soft or dated like he tries to describes here...at least the new ones (06-up 2.8l) modded can compare to modded Audi b5/b6 S4s and the like, while still feeling different (turbox being an example).
Super chill owner! I love these videos when its a smart car guy, chill respectful. I mean look at the comments.. everyone loves him. You go Cullen! haha To bad the comment section isn't always this happy
I had a convertible one for a few years. Steering rack braces, and particularly front poly bushes, totally transform the way this car feels to drive. Matt, you often mention slack in steering of cars this age - this is the best fix I've found.
I like this SAAB! it's shaped differently than other cars, you don't see them everyday (ESPECIALLY TUNED ONES) and they are just different. it also makes me miss my 2000 Volvo C70 coupe. good job homie, I know these cars aren't the easiest to mod and tune.
Hey Matt, I really liked this episode man! I own a 2001 9-3 myself and its an awesome car. I think of it as the early 2000's Mazdaspeed 3. Easy to make decent power, comfortable interior, and in general they are a very nice and user friendly platform. I wish more people would buy SAAB's and modify them. They are too cool of a company to let fade away into the history books.
My buddy had an 05' 9-3 Aero with BSR stage III and the car flew on the expressway especially, smooth as silk too! I'm really glad this car was shown here, we all love the mix because it's what makes this channel! Short video for some reason though but I enjoyed it, I'll be looking for this car since he's from Chicago. If the owner sees this come on out to The Collectors Car Garage in Chicago, across from WGN TV studio, well worth the time. This is the first Sunday of the month and should start in April.
I respect anybody who can work on their car these days, let alone at 19! As a 90's Volvo Guy I love seeing Saabs out there as well. Love them Swedish Cars!!
Nice Viggen Cullen! - I'm a state away with an LB Viggen, hope to see you at some of the meets. Loved the fact Matt actually took on another Viggen that has been properly done. Great video PS yes you need an LSD it's the best thing I did to my Viggen.
We need to see more tastefully built Saabs! Thanks Matt and props to Cullen bringing out his Viggen all the way from Chicago - I've always wanted to do the same! Check out the first video in my channel if anyone wants to see more, it's my modified 2005 Saab 9-5 Aero, stage 3 power, coilover suspension, BBS wheels and lots of other things too. My buddy shot and edited the video for me, I would love to know what you guys think.
I love it! God the shape of this thing! Memories from my dad's 900 which he owned for around 12 years. Sadly a couple of years ago it broke down on us and my dad couldn't afford the parts for it anymore, and he had to sell it sadly. I miss that car :'(
soccersuxx MCM used to be quite watchable before they went super gay. I honestly completely forgot about poor old Wasabi - used to love his car spotting...has he just faded into obscurity nowadays or what?
oh boy, couldn't dream about a Saab here! sweeeet! drive a 1975 99 myself. Saabs are really good cars with character and many oddball stuff. different, not always better, but plenty of awesome mechanicals to cover it. The four cilinders are great, take very much force!
Almost bought one of these but the seller wanted a bit too much. Also wanted to mention this kid is on point. Hopefully we see more builds from him in the future.
Very nice!! You need to give that Viggen more credit for a daily driver. Climbs, turns easy to drive on mtn roads. It likes rain. Should of let Cullen drive with you in a tail car.
Loved this video. Thanks Guys! I really miss SAAB. SAAB was our family. Have a Stage 1 Saab 9-5 Estate as a daily. Only thing i regret is that I didn't get one sooner. A Viggen is on the short list without a doubt if my commute becomes shorter.
This car is so cool! I recently bought a 9-5 Aero with the same engine at 250hp, it moves pretty OK between 80-120kph! By the way, "Viggen" is the previous generation of Saab jet fighters. The only jet fighter in history to get a radar lock on the Blackbird spy plane... ;)
guy did a good build especially for his age. congrats man! good on you for daily driving this thing.
That's what I'm saying. Mad props to him, it's fuckin awesome seeing younger guys really into cars and building them.
100% agree. That's exactly my take on this Saab owner, his attitude and his build. What do you want to bet that in a few to five years he'll have some other mad build? Love it!
Agreed, mad respect for this kid
And he must of really wanted to show off his car to Matt by shipping it to California
Well said; clean car!
For me a big part of this videos is the conversation between Matt and the owner. And I must say that Cullen was a great co-driver/host and made the video very enjoyable:)
matej_158 So you found him attractive or what?
you're a special kind of stupid aren't you?
I"m with you, buddy. Part of what makes these builds interesting is the person who has either done the work or come up with the idea and funded the work. Sometimes you find some pretty cool folks.

And Seinfeld too.
Blame Spyker for the demise of Saab.
jhc1229 What a ridiculous brand. Wasnt it nautical themed the interior?
0to60videos oh yes!
Thats one of the most well aged timeless interiors I've ever seen. It still looks AMAZING!
Love seeing Saabs on UA-cam. Keep it up!
Trionic Seven Swedish Power!
Trionic Seven, you legend. You keep up the videos too.
The Viggen is my benchmark for what I thought was fast about 10 years ago. I'll never forget how excited I was for 230ish HP haha. Keep this thing running!
its not a viggen. viggens were only produced in a 2dr model
Zebon Rosk You’re dead wrong. 5 door, vert, and 2 door.
@@Vanderveenmvert viggen is awesome
Surprisingly great chemistry between these two, given the age gap, was almost a bromance lol. Car sounds great to!

LOVED LOVED LOVED this!! True Saab enthusiast here! Had a 9-3 convertible, 9-3 aero, and 9-5 aero. 9-5 aero shares the same engine as the Viggen. Great job with this and great job to the owner!

They were reliable in my experience but sometimes require a little more maintenance than normal.
If he hadn't said he was 19 I would have assumed he was a young looking 24 or 25 in the way he talks and carries himself. Very smart kid and very impressive! Good on you Cullen this was cool man!
this guy has high car IQ for sure
Force is strong with him lol. He'll be somebody.
Quick-witted lad for sure. Awesome episode and a really nice looking and sounding Saab.
You guys are right nice build !!! You don't see vigen saab's around to much..and for a young person to build a Saab I think that's really cool..
Cullen, a great job for anyone, let alone a 19 year old. Can't wait to see what you build next.
This is probably one of my favorite reviews from Matt now. A super respectable/refreshing review.

There was a package from Abbot Racing called the "Viggen Rescue Kit" which completely changes the character of this car!

it renews my faith to see the kids making cars that aren't comic book embarrassments
This guy is a class act for his age, very intelligent, well spoken and has great taste.
Nice seeing Saabs on UA-cam, yes, but be nice if we could hear it

Such a ballin little car, never going to be fastest in a line. But has more character then any of its contemporary's at least in my opinion.

Momentum cars. You can have a great deal of fun in one and bug the hell out of faster cars while remaining quite comfortable.
Oh my, this was shot in early January? You must have worked up quite a backlog of videos to be able to that that well deserved break over Christmas.
