      You don't *need* more than two or three to be an effective bass player (Fretted and fretless, maybe a 5 string) but the rest just makes things go a little smoother and slightly better sounding. You don't need them though, unless you play every genre ever

    Ok so I was bored and decided to calculate approximately how much all of these basses cost. It lands at approximately $ 95,000 us dollars and that's not including the Arco Acoustic, the crazy double neck, the off-brand violin bass, and the thinline jazz bass because I could not for the life of me find any prices for those. Assuming those ones not included cost at least a couple thousand each, this totals at well over $100 grand. That's around the price of the last house I lived in.

      Hazel Hoyte -- The one thing about Warwicks is you have to like thicker egg-shaped necks, they're almost double bass-like. I have no problem with it even though I'm pretty sure my other bass has one of the flattest necks ever made.

      @@perryborn2777 knew the feeling until last year. Once I graduated high school back in 2014 and got a real job, saved up money and I got my own Rickenbacker 4003. Wasn't cheap but the effort and struggle of saving made my Rickenbacker my favorite bass out of all my basses.

    • @perryborn2777
      @perryborn2777 4 роки тому

      @@Peepeestorm nice! I've got four basses so far, one acoustic, two electric 4 strings, one of those is a nice squier jazz, and the other is an 80s Kramer Striker, kinda falling apart, but it's got a PJ setup which is handy for jazzier stuff. Then there's the 5 string jazz style bass that I got for $100 from a company called Glarry. Took a chance cause it was cheap, and I actually quite like it, though the pickups run real hot, and it has a cheap feel due to the wood and dry neck/fretboard.
      I plan to put off getting anymore basses until I can get the Rick that I want, which is the Walnut 4003, but those are even more expensice than the regular ones :/

      The Music Man's pretty brash, too. If it'd been a Sterling instead of a Stingray, it would've been even more so. Aside from my P-basses, all I own are Music Man and Warwick, so you can probably guess my playing style, haha! Not into real subtle, smooth tones. Those are for the session pros.

    • @The_sinner_Jim_Whitney
      @The_sinner_Jim_Whitney 4 роки тому

      neggit Yeah. A lot of them play Music Man, too. I play Music Man Sterlings (the bass model, not the import budget line) probably 80% of the time, the rest being split between fretted and fretless P-basses (really, Jazz basses with P pickups, never liked the look or neck of a P much), a Warwick Thumb BO, and fretted and fretless Tacoma Thunderchiefs with K & K PureBass pickups for when I want to jam unplugged with a fiddle, clawhammer banjo or mandolin (not both, Tacomas are loud but not that loud, haha!), and guitar as kind of an upright substitute (fretless with Rotosound TruBass strings gets you close enough) or when I want that 'Alice in Chains MTV Unplugged' sort of tone.
      I actually almost never play metal, I play a lot of funk, jazz fusion, sludgy stoner rock, and alt-country, but I play pretty aggressively and like a punchy, funky bass tone most of the time. EBMM and Warwick deliver that in spades.

      More like the most generic sounding, and dime a dozen looking? Can’t wait to really standout from the crowd with the worlds billionth Fender P-Bass...... sorry I just fell asleep from writing about boring Fenders 💤

      Yes! Kinda surprised of how the Fenders and the Rickenbacker were in a class of their own! Amazing sounding. Also remembered why that guy with a Fodora was never called to do a session again. There were a few unmixable instruments here even if the playing was A class throughout.

    All amazing basses - for playing rock, I would go with MusicMan, Warwick, Fender, Dingwall, or Rickenbacker. For jazz and fusion, any one of those $6,000 - $20,000 basses will work just fine for me. Lol.

      My wife offered me my choice of a custom bass for my 40th birthday, and I came *very* close to picking a Deep 5 before I chose my Mike Lull PJ/JJ5-24 (a custom version of his PJ5-24, which is routed for both P and J pickups in the neck and are hot-swappable with EMG connector plugs). I absolutely love my Lull and don’t regret the choice I made, but I’d love to pick up a Deep 5 one day... or a Godin A5 Ultra Bass, which is tonally close and much more affordable.
