That's due to Shuhua not being yet too fluent in Korean, and her singing skills also not being as developed as they are nowadays. But as you might have noticed she's much confident now ☺️ And the members have said several times that they choose the line distribution together based on how well they think each of them will sound in every part. You should react to KDA - "POP/STARS", "More" and "The Baddest". Soyeon and Miyeon are both in those songs and they are amazing. POP/STARS is still in the top 100 of most viewed Kpop music videos off all time.
I was a fan of Soyeon's since predebut, but wasn't big into k-pop (i got to know her in Unpretty Rapstar, which was (is??) a survival show for female rappers) so i kinda missed gidle debut, but then remembered her suddenly in 2019, and got suuuper into gidle! Wildly Shuhua is my bias now and not Soyeon, but honestly it's very hard to choose between all six of them haha
For me, ‘What’s in your house?’ is a metaphor(?) for ‘What’s inside your mind?’ Or ‘What are your likes and dislikes? What makes you, you?’ Something like that. Because they want to know the person more. So, basically, the house is the person itself.

Some info (long comment): I-AM is an amazing debut album showing how talented they really are. As the name suggests it is to show who they are and what can they do. They introduced themselves with personalities being SOYEON = CHARISMA; MIYEON = INNOCENT; MINNIE=DREAMY; SOOJIN=SEXY; YUQI=CUTE; SHUHUA=CHIC. Soyeon wanted to preserve these personalities so she told them not to blindly follow their vocal lessons since it would lose their unique voices and will sound the same. I AM was implying the meaning of their group name "Six different people with six different personalities, coming together as one." They have tiny budget to the point that they did their jacket photoshoot along the backstreets of hawkers (local restos in Singapore) where they're literally beside trashcans, crates, metal boxes, etc. They would shoot at an empty diner or platform or stairs. Despite now having a big budget, they still pull it off greatly. LATATA: -Soyeon created LATATA because their company doesn't have one for them, delaying their debut (was supposed to be April 2018). -You are correct with the spell thing. Soyeon said that she was into Latin songs and themes. She watched a Latin gag and the actor said "Lata Lata Lata". To her it sounded like a spell, so when she wrote the song, she made it into LATATA = THE SPELL FOR LOVE. (The english version is more open into that theme) -The golf scene took around an hour for them to shoot. -Yuqi's wink was an adlib during the shoot -Some actually got confused of the MV not fitting the lyrics. This is because they wanted it to be "childish" since their name sounds with "aideul" which means "children" in Korea. DOLLAR: -Soyeon was just speaking her heart out when it comes to her rap parts, and here she's stating the truth (she's otaku, bookworm, etc.) -DOLLAR and DALLA (different) sounds similar and Soyeon liked that. Knowing her genius, she got double meanings that you can interchange here. That "billion dollars" in the chorus could mean " If you want me, bring a billion differences, unlike other guys who are the same" MAZE: -This is just flexing their vocals really. They also performed this on stage and damn it was great -Story is straight forward, they're stuck with that someone, found and escape, now that someone can't get over them WHAT'S IN YOUR HOUSE: -It does feel like a spy or stalker thing (got the feels like "You Belong with Me" by Taylor Swift for me). -But in some culture, going or being into someone's house is a big deal since it is their private and personal space. Mostly, they don't even know the address of someone since it is rather confidential. Thus this could mean that by wanting to go inside their house, they are saying "I want to be in a deeper relationship with you." HEAR ME: -When IDLE makes ballads, I really listen because it shows their vocal talents. -And YES Soyeon can actually sing like that. I really believe that she's a singer but chose to be a rapper. She got a clip from talent shows long before her debut where she sings, and even the (host?, mentor? sorry I only saw the clip as of now) was amazed where a rapper can sing ~~~ -If you want to hear more Soyeon vocals, then she have 2 pre-IDLE debut songs "JELLY" and "IDLE SONG". Check her album as well "WINDY"..and only true Nevies know this, but she have a melodic song with a drawing MV/lyric on the official page called "THE LOVELESS" and damn that song and her vocals hits. She also have a lot of songs outside of IDLE such as collabs, promotions, features, etc.
Maze is legit my 3rd-favorite (G)I-dle song. Early on Shuhua didn't have a lot of lines. My understanding is that she didn't want a lot of lines because she wasn't very confident in her Korean. I very much am a (G)I-dle fan, not quite from the beginning(but close)... This album played a crucial role in me becoming interested in Kpop in the first place.
I saw an interview with them ages ago and Shuhua said she turned down lines because she was struggling with the language. If you watch her in interviews even now, she still does not always seem confident with the language. She hasn't been in Korea for very long before she debuted. Soyeon has always found ways to make sure that Shuhua can be included, often as a key figure in the video and doing sub-vocals
I’m soooooo SHOCKED and fascinated that you can you caught the meaning of this song immediately after the first chorus. LATATA is indeed a coined spell Soyeon made to lure ppl with their charms. This version is not that explicit since it’s the debut song…the company wanted a safe play. The queendom version of LATATA presented the message most IMO since they even pulled off the remixed version with a “conjurer” concept. ❤
the reason why i really like your gidle contents is that you mainly focus on their lyrics, which not everyone appreciates. I mean, for me i can't barely understand korean and if i really want to connect to the song I searched for its meaning and english translation. And by far, gidle is one of the top tier groups that has so much content to their songs, especially since Soyeon mostly wrote and produced some of them. It just shows how talented they are, including Yuqi and Minnie when writing and producing cos they don't just write for the sake of the title "writer or producers".
Soyeon is really incredible. This tiny young woman from Korea is a role model for me and I'm a 36 year old man. Almost teared up when I got to do the hi touch after their concert in Atl. Then Minnie absolutely left me dazed when she blew me a kiss. 😅

Didn't see anyone post this info, so I will: In the beginning of Latata, Soojin hands Soyeon a cat mask, which she looks at then tosses away. The meaning behind this is that Soojin was secretly the cameo girl in Soyeon's solo MVs ('Jelly' and 'Idle Time') before she was melded into I-Dle. I believe Soojin no longer needs to hide her identity, since is no longer a trainee, and Soyeon thinks of her as a friend. 'Idol time' is especially important because I believe the meaning behind those lyrics were a jab at Cube Entertainment Management for making the group wait so long to debut.
Shuhua has confidence issues and so at the beginning soyeon didn't give her alot of lines whenever she's more comfortable and confident soyeon gives her more lines and when she's not feeling that confident soyeon gives her less so she doesn't feel pressured as she's the youngest they don't want her to have troubles she's like their baby
Oh my goodness, this reaction blessed my day! It takes me back, because while I have followed a lot of groups, in all these years G-Idle is still the only one that convinced me to stan since debut. When they came out in 2018 you could immediately tell they had that "it" factor, this huge potential that was going to take the k-pop industry on a wild, wild ride. The fact that they are one of the only girl groups with a producer line (Soyeon, Yuqi and MInnie) who self write and produce almost every song they have (fun fact, this first album was the only one where they didn't contribute to all the producing!) definitely helped to set them apart. I am so excited for you to listen to the other albums, and follow the whimsical and stormy journey that brought them to present day :)

If you want to really know how (G)I-DLE captures the people and how they plant their root in the kpop world you have to watch their stages, the LATATA stages coz they be delivering/serving some amazing performances from the get go funfact: 1 week before they got to perform on stage the company said they have to choreograph the intro/outro dance break so soyeon and soojin did, and holy cow its so good
I got lucky with my partner. I mostly only listen to kpop these days and she knew that, supported that, and even went with me to my first kpop concert(which was Dreamcatcher) I have been a neverland since 2021, so I got a bit of a late introduction to the girls but I love them.

Aside from Latata I haven't really listened to the songs from I Am lately so it was nice listening to them again while you reacted :P I really hope you'll react to all of their albums. They all have something going for them but in the later albums, I Burn, I Never Die and I Love they really started making their albums a more coherent whole with usually a theme or a story line. Also their quality just keeps going up. Personally my favorite album is I Burn even though it's a bit bittersweet to listen to now... it was released on my birthday too, so it's extra special to me haha
Maze is their original debut song so the quality is gread. However, both Cube and (g)i-dle believed it won't be successful to catch public's eye and delayed the debut, but Cube cannot find another good song for some time and Latata became an experimental composition by Soyeon.
Oof. That last translation was rough. "Can't we go back" is translated as "Can you come out" and then it ends with "I love you still" but they wrote something else. Not the only mistakes. Probably shouldn't use that page anymore.

If i can suggest something, the next song in their discography is Hann, but i think you should check it out with Hwaa and lost in winter because it is a story that Soyeon created, and it starts at Hann, then Alone in winter and the end is Hwaa. Just beacuse I can see that you like the lyrics you will understand it better like that 🥰
Soyeon had 2 solo songs and MVs (Jelly and Idle Song) prior to (G)I-DLE debut, and Soojin was featured in both videos wearing that mask. So it was sort of a reveal that she was under the mask the whole time.
Wow. It's been a minute since I just sat down and listened to I AM, so I'm happy I get to experience it with LC. Watching her reaction to the moments I probably responded to back then is so fun. The best part about ( )I-DLE is that even though they started off strong, every album they leveled up. It's to the point now that there are no weak b-tracks, and some of them could even be title tracks. I think you can see the seeds with I AM as well (though I admit to being biased). There is certain more stand out songs here, but none of them feel like filler songs. They're all different and all good.

Now speaking about I-dle, they are awesome, I define their music as manga storytelling in which every album is a chapter, musically very talented: every single member has its own personality vocally, I love when they were six and play that strong/soft game (ex the combination Miyeon/Soojin) in which they could be saying exactly the same thing but it feels so different. Soyeon: Genius. I'll be waiting for the next reviews!

I really hope you'll react to all of their albums. They all have something going for them but in the later albums, I Burn, I Never Die and I Love they really started making their albums a more coherent whole with usually a theme or a story line. Also their quality just keeps going up. Personally my favorite album is I Burn even though it's a bit bittersweet to listen to now... it was released on my birthday too, so it's extra special to me haha

Maze is their original debut song so the quality is gread. However, both Cube and (g)i-dle believed it won't be successful to catch public's eye and delayed the debut, but Cube cannot find another good song for some time and Latata became an experimental composition by Soyeon.

If i can suggest something, the next song in their discography is Hann, but i think you should check it out with Hwaa and lost in winter because it is a story that Soyeon created, and it starts at Hann, then Alone in winter and the end is Hwaa. Just beacuse I can see that you like the lyrics you will understand it better like that 🥰

Soyeon had 2 solo songs and MVs (Jelly and Idle Song) prior to (G)I-DLE debut, and Soojin was featured in both videos wearing that mask. So it was sort of a reveal that she was under the mask the whole time.

Wow. It's been a minute since I just sat down and listened to I AM, so I'm happy I get to experience it with LC. Watching her reaction to the moments I probably responded to back then is so fun.
The best part about ( )I-DLE is that even though they started off strong, every album they leveled up. It's to the point now that there are no weak b-tracks, and some of them could even be title tracks. I think you can see the seeds with I AM as well (though I admit to being biased). There is certain more stand out songs here, but none of them feel like filler songs. They're all different and all good.
This is so accurate and simple. To me the best way to make an album's review, so thank you and congratulations! Now speaking about I-dle, they are awesome, I define their music as manga storytelling in which every album is a chapter, musically very talented: every single member has its own personality vocally, I love when they were six and play that strong/soft game (ex the combination Miyeon/Soojin) in which they could be saying exactly the same thing but it feels so different. Soyeon: Genius. I'll be waiting for the next reviews!

Wasn't expecting u to react their whole debut album, i also check ur channel after gidle reaction and i love ur reaction tbh bcz ur very detailed and know how to react 😂 cuz some of people just pretend to be shocked or whatever... i'm looking forward for ur reaction to their 2nd mini album I MADE which is my fav (but the tittle track Señorita is everyone least fav even gidle themselves :")) idk why but Put it Straight always get me emotional and always be my fav gidle song, they also did a performance to that song in Queendom, but they did some aranggement it's more like nightmare ver. of it, and....
