This webcast is the follow-up to the hugely successful webinar Dissociative Identity Disorder: The Hidden Condition, held on 30 June 2021. It answers the questions outstanding from the webinar to provide further information on dissociative identity disorder (DID). It features three of the original panellists: Gill Frost, Amanda Ball, and Alf McFarland. The webinar and webcast were inspired by Gill Frost's evocative debut book, 'The Girls Within: A True Story of Triumph over Trauma and Abuse' - bit.ly/GirlsWi...

The way Amanda describes the hypervigilence and how we pick up on so many things and then internalise the blame for that or at least question 'is it us' is so spot on.
Within reason there has to be transparency and trust with the therapist because we absolutely struggle to trust.
I struggle to trust my various inners let alone someone outside my world.
I am so excited that there is more understanding of this evolving in the world of Psychology.

We are so glad that you found the discussion of use. We are sorry to hear that you are struggling to access a therapist. You mentioned AUD in your other message, are you aware of blueknot.org.au ? They provide information and support for those affected by complex trauma and may be able to assist.

Trauma is trending in mental health and therapists believe their 20 CEU's make them an expert. 99.9% don't get trauma or are able to accurately identify let alone help. If support groups were searched you will find thousands of people with DID helping each other because story after story of failure and harm by therapists is a regular occurrence. The second biggest problem is unaffordability and lack of access to bonafide care.

Absolutely. I looked some up and found a lady I felt I might be comfortable with until I saw what she charges. $250 an hour AUD. I know physicians who specialise charge that and more for way less time in many cases, but theres a question if that's reasonable as well.
So many of us are simply forced to approach this with ourselves which can be really hard but more and more info is coming through which is great.
But I have to say that the medical profession especially specialists, surgeons etc oh and the legal profession 🤦‍♀️, is so out of reach for so many that it's shameful really.

If a therapist can build trust with all parts, this is half the battle.

I felt really hurt and betrayed by a therapist a few years ago and I'm still struggling to recover from that hurt. I don't think they meant to cause any harm to me whatsoever & I learned alot from them but yeah I've been very stuck on that. My current therapy has helped me with alot of things, & this a little, but it still hurts. 😢 I don't know how to get past it.

Solid conversation, very informative, thank you so much!
I will point out however, that not all healing looks like intergration/fusing. Some of us just want to reach a level of trust, and team-like internal family.

12:55 I beg to differ that it’s always that obvious in the extremely artificial content of someone who’s only ever seen you for 1hr weekly in clinic. I switched in my assessment so dramatically it completely shocked me, but my therapist remained oblivious. Part of my problem is even younger parts holding emotions are adept at hiding their existence since any age appropriate emotional display would be severely punished.

    • @amandaball7116

It took a very long time before younger parts felt able to show their emotions. Before therapy we hadn’t cried ‘sad tears’ for decades

Hopefully someone can answer this: or tell me what it’s called.
I don’t identify with the hand feeling huge but more of at times im rubbing my leg to keep from scratching (eczema) I feel as if my hands aren’t mine. But I know they are because I can feel me touching my own skin. Can’t really explain. It just feels different than an ordinary feeling. It’s actually calming though.
