    Here was a smaller project that I recently completed. It was a last minute deal but still turned out wonderful.
    This is Obsidian but it's a variety called "fire obsidian" which it gets its color from nano-crystalized layers of magnetite.
    Rainbow obsidian is not the same as fire and it doesn't get it's color from magnetite. There is a huge difference there.
    It's only found in Oregon, USA and nowhere else in the world and currently, a finished piece can go anywhere from $25 to $100 per gram.
    Like any other gemstone - it depends on color, quality, and clarity.
    BUT WAIT!!!
    You can't go and dig for it though. It is actually illegal to collect and sell off of BLM land.
    There are "claims" where this stuff comes from and they will go after you if you try to claim jump.
    Your best bet to find it is to be lucky enough to find some at a shop, online, or at an estate sale.

    Cut it up? Only as a last resort. Wear it? In a heartbeat. Larger the better i say, I'll never understand the norm that is tiny cabs for pendants.
    Your skill means you could work it without cutting it further. Lucky customer you have there! Fiyahhhh!

    What stunning stones. I'm seeing more every day. The tiny tumbler I bought is going well, considering that I'm on alternative power system. As I'm new to your channel, I appreciated the time you took to welcome me to the fold. Greetings from Dimboola, in Victoria, Australia 🇦🇺 😊.

    Both are so beautiful. I would definitely wear that little one as a necklace. I don't think the big one should be cut down. It amazing the way it is, flaws and all.

    Like 101. I personally like the smaller one better as I don't see any imperfections. I would cut the bigger one into smaller unique free forms to waste little material as that really is incredible stuff. And I actually do like the smaller piece with that red flash. I would keep it in my watch pocket so I could take it out and admire it like my preciouses. Would hate it if it fell out and a filthy Bagginses picked it up 🤣🤣🤣 Both pieces had a shine ✨️ to be proud of. Excellent job, Kyle.

    Imagine this stuff knapped into an apparohead(arrow head for wearing, not hunting)
    Polished like that.
    Looks like triple flow. Has those layer of clear in it. Very high quality.

    The value of the piece would increase with the crack cut. Three smaller stones without visable flaws should increase price per carat. Beautiful obsidian ❤❤❤

    I don't quite understand. Did the conchoidal fracture create that cool looking flash of fire in that one spot, or was that just a conchoidal fracture that went through a fire layer?
    That is one big honkin piece of fire obsidian. Great work 👍

    • @WorldofRockhounds
      @WorldofRockhounds  8 місяців тому

      There was the initial fracture that I worked out. The one that was running through it was a separate fracture. Could've been worse though!

  • @alexm495
    @alexm495 8 місяців тому

    I wonder if Opticon would make that white line "disappear"? (Maybe have to heat / warm the stone up first?) The internal fracture has its own color effect and is kind of cool IMO but hiding the white line might be nice
