One of the best soundtracks ever. Every time I open the game there is this feeling of peace rushing through my body when the menu music starts playing.
Played this game for years and unlocked 1 ship, picked it back up in the last week and have unlocked all but 2 like my brain just finally unlocked the puzzle
I originally purchased this game via the original Humble Bundle, and have played a lot in the years since. Today was when I was finally able to beat the game thanks to the tips in your video. Thanks a lot!
Also the enemy ships can run out of missiles too. So if you struggling for power and happen to have defense drones and lots of shields, you could just defend till they run out of missiles, then turn off defense drone and activate weapons. Another reason may be because the enemy ship has lots of defense mark 2 drones and shields, making it very difficult to penetrate their shields or get a missile through. And if you can't power your defense drone and all your weapon systems then that'd be another possible reason to just play defensively till they run out of missiles. Since defense drone takes time to activate once powered on. Also the lone survivor dialogue does not produce the chance for them to turn and kill a member of your crew. it's the questionable sanity dialogue one that has chance he'd kill a member of your crew. And clone bay usually avoids the issue with crew member being lost when its a bad outcome, though some result in crew member captured, not killed. So can't be cloned. The mad man in cave version of the event can also result in that person joining with one level in each skill, if you meet the requirements for that special option to be present.
i love it bro, one of the mods i cant play without. Vanilla just looks like the rooms are pasted on-top of an image of the ship, your mod actually makes them look so much better. Plus it fits the vanilla style IMO which is a nice bonus
Man I bought this game several years ago from a personal recommendation. It’s totally my type of game. I love games like Into the Breach, Slay the Spire, Fire Emblem, Xcom etc. To preface what I’m about to say, I genuinely like the game and I can clearly see the similar elements and game play loops it shares with some of my favorites. That being said, I’ve been struggling HARD. I’ve played countless runs but can’t seem to get very far and the times I do better than usual, I feel like I’m mostly just winging it flying be the seat of my pants. I’ve come to the conclusion that I must be approaching it the wrong way or there’s certain fundamental strategies I’m missing. I know this game easily has the potential to be up there with my other favorites and that’s why I’m so frustrated with my inability to “crack” it. On a similar note, I bought The Binding of Isaac several years ago for Switch and after playing several hours I absolutely hated it so I put it away. A lot of time passed and I randomly decided to give it another shot one day and boy am I glad I did… it’s now one of my all-time most played favorite games. I hope this video helps FTL becomes my next “Isaac”. Thanks for sharing by the way.
@@bedoguyperson thank you! Will definitely give it a shot. I was the type to hightail it out of the sector as soon as possible. I’ve gotten a little better since I posted that comment but not as much as I hoped. Will report back with results.
@@LemonbreadSC thanks for asking by the way. I've played this a ton and gotten much further and much better results since I posted this originally. I realized my main problem was that I was leaving each sector at the earliest possible opportunity instead of exploring more and farming for more cash and items for a stronger ship. Now I understand why this game is so highly regarded by roguelike fans.
I have trouble wrapping my head around people being new to FTL (I haven’t played it regularly in probably 3+ years) but it’s nice to see. I hope you enjoy/enjoyed your time with the game, it’s pretty special.
Thanks my man, I came back to this game after several years and after like 50 tries still can't finish it on Hard lol. Arrived at the boss like 3 times though but had insanely bad luck with hacking.
Thanks for the guide, kind of confirms what I thought though. As much as I enjoy the combat management, it seems like you need to have foreknowledge or memorize how a lot of events and weapons work to do well at the game. I found this quite frustrating / inscrutable, and it never felt totally fair to me.
I get to the final boss evry time but I loose every time then I get bored becouse every run lasts forever. I'm just to impacient to pause fast enough and end up not properly timing attacks or not using cloak. Also becouse I play on easy enemy ouside of the boss having 4 shield is very rare so it's easy to get all the way to the boss without having a way to deal with it's shilds. Maybe I should go up to normal since on normal bad runs will end early so any run that actually get's to the boss is more likely going to succed?
Yeah! I'd be more than happy to do some guides for specific ships! For slug B, it can definitely be pretty hard right off the bat, starting with only missile based weapons. Remember that you can heal your own crew with the heal bomb, and prioritize getting a new weapon immediately, even if its a crappy laser, and be on the lookout for any surrender options with missiles, theres no shame in taking them if it helps you survive. Sometimes you just get an unlucky seed, but keep persevering!
Is there an order to get more rewards IE take out their oxygen and get the entire ship of rewards or just blast their engines?? Or is it their dps and that's that =]
Yes, but you only have like...6 choices as far as I can see. Male/female, blonde/brunette, and dark skinned male/female. In this vid there appears to be a dude with green skin and a dude with a cyborg eye.
Still playing this damn game!! For some reason I’m addicted to the Red-Tail. Something about the 4 basic lasers from the start is so effin fun! I’ve also discovered that the Store inventory is definitely different depending on which ship you’re captaining. The weapons they sell are usually just drones and augments. That is kind of disappointing. I guess they figured by selling higher powered lasers so early would be an advantage. They really know how to keep their foot on your neck. I LOVE IT!
It's not really a design flaw. At his level, farming the engine guy and his pilot to 100% would give him what. 30% dodge as opposed to 20%? It is a difference, but it won't be game changing, and you get that training just playing the game normally, by about sector 3 I think. Most of the runs you won't be doing that, even if you could, just because it is boring, and you might just die regardless. Good decisions and knowledge of the game will get you far further than training your 3 starting crew up a few sectors in advance (especially since you might change your crew by the end of the run anyways).

Tip for bad hacks: if you engage the rebel flagship early, next to the federation base, you can run away if you get a really bad hack.

Is there an order to get more rewards IE take out their oxygen and get the entire ship of rewards or just blast their engines?? Or is it their dps and that's that =]
If you kill the enemy crew, either from suffocation, fires, or just murder, you get more rewards vs simply blowing them up
@@spearmintz1 AAAHHH Awesome ty so much for the tip!
This is a silly question, but your human crew all seem to have unique sprites. How was that done? If it was a mod, which one?
So when you're starting up you can customize your crew (bottom left) not just rename but also customize appearance

such a unique game
Great video
If a ship can't hurt you don't waste missiles unless they try to run away and fail to stop them with lasers
What is the mod that you are using for tracking rebel jumps? I looked at nexus mods and couldn't find it.
FTL Extended Pursuit Indicator, it should be on the master mod list if you give that a google!
The best mod is a sheet of paper lol :D
