The Rock has been very successful the last 10 years, which lately was very easy to see his EGO growing & growing... this may be a blessing in disguise for him, might take him down a few pegs so to speak.
The fact that Gunn won't give us a solid answer on whether Miller remains or is officially gone speaks volumes. I'm not surprised if they decided to keep AH for future projects because Saffran loves criminals and abusers. But if they decide to keep Miller but cut out Cavill, Gadot and Johnson, I'm officially done with DC.
I guess assault, kidnapping, misconduct and public drunkenness as well as carrying a pistol and bulletproof vest in Miller's car when being pulled over doesn't constitute as 'Bad Behavior'! Stupid politics, I think I am done with DC.
The Rock still nailed Black Adam pretty well. Black Adam was dark, gruesome and rough just like the Comics. His persona only made Black Adam more of a tough force. I went to see Black Adams in theater over Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. They need to make a Black Adam sequel!!!!
@@metallicnole4514 In the comics; Black Adam only cared about his family and kingdom. They need a Black Adam sequel because his darkness mirrored almost that of John Bernthals Punisher. Just brute strength, forward thinking, and kicking ass. Batman in BvS seems more of that anti-hero vibe as you stated. This Black Adam was more relatable than the comics.
Is because it was a DC movie when you compare a extremely bad bad movie like thor love and thunder that made good numbers you know what the real problem is.
Exactly. But his fans have their heads so far up his a**, he's out of the stratosphere. He won't see anything wrong with anything he does, because they love his wet, sloppy farts.
When they use a line over and over in interviews that means the studio told them to say it over and over. Nothing they say about their movies are genuine
This happens all the time when companies change the upper level they usually get rid of projects started by others. The Rock and anyone else would try to make a franchise it's very lucrative. Its business, it's normal. You win some, you lose some.
Really, how much different would it be from Superman and Gen Zod? There are a lot Superman villains. Not enough really cosmic ones though. That's why Superman is at his best in the JLA. That could have set up a long ongoing battle with a team of villains. Could have explored backstory and ongoing tribulations on both sides. A treasure trove of building characters, a few deaths, retribution .. emotion... we could actually some day give a shit about some of them. Then at some point they could be galactacly be pressured or willingly combined to fight a massive threat, that the comics haven't even come up with yet. That would have been worth watching. But, no now, we'll get yet another origin story, when even the non-comic reading public, likely already knows, since it's now the 3rd movie universe reboot. DC was/is my favourite comic and animation, but I have no faith it will ever be able to translate that to the screen.
I just watched "Black Adam" last night and have to admit I thoroughly enjoyed it. Great SFX and story. Sad to say people aren't the movie goers they were in days past. Highly suggest watching it if you haven't yet. Refreshing.
@@rupturefarms21 nah, all the DCU movies are lifeless and boring. They try to "humanize" these outlandish and completely unrelateble characters. Even when we can relate to them we get reminded that they are gods among humans with the typical "im very powerful" moment. It's basically a meme, an inside joke, and you can't make a movie out of that. Atleast batman works, not because he is human, but because we understand his motives. Superman should be the easiet to write, his motive is black and white cookie cutter, but they fuck it up trying to infer deeper meaning with convoluted plot points, when its a very straigthforward concept, but writers want to "break the mold". The rest of DCU panders to edgyness or tries to hard to be more than they are. They are superheroe movies, not epic tales. Marvel works because they know they are a superhero movie. DCU doesn't because they think they are above superhero movies, and tries to be this grand epic story.
Being yourself in every movie may pay off for certain things. In a universe where the story telling should be front seat and action riding shot gun? Not so much. I actually forced myself to get into Black Adam's storyline. He's a great character and deserved better.
It was ok, I enjoyed certain aspects of it. I don’t know why DC keeps making movies with multiple super heroes where it’s literally our first time meeting them. Can’t really care about a character when you barely know who they are.
@@shaun5047 You don't know who the DC heroes are? DC's been around forever. Everyone knows superman, batman, flash, Aquaman, shazam, Wonderwoman, black Adam, and so on. Why do we need a movie for each hero?
I think that the Rock's best movie was "The Tooth Fairy" with Julie Andrews and Billie Crystal. It was funny as hell and Dwayne actually acted really well in it. Maybe he's just gotten too full of himself over the last decade? Let me confess that I actually liked Black Adam. I can understand why others wouldn't. For the most part, Dwayne's acting in this film was way too wooden. But there were some funny interactions between him and the kid, Amon over the course of the story. Also, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman totally nailed the character. And Pierce Brosnan stole the film's spotlight with his portrayal of Dr. Fate. So, yeah. I liked it. Sorry to see all the arm-twisting going on behind scenes like this.
We are actually living in a time where John Cena has more acting range than the rock, especially when John cena was considered pretty wooden in his wwe days while the rock has charisma in his wwe days.

@@urbnctrl Black Adam is not trash, it is way better than Morbius and The Flash. Henry Cavill is a good modern-day cast for Superman, but Snyder did Supes dirty.
Maybe the reason Black Adam didn’t do so well is because what happened to the Snyder verse and the route DC took that upset fans. I didn’t see much of advertisement for the movie only one trailer and what Dwayne had on the can of his Zoa drinks. I do wonder if they purposely attempted to cause it to flop.
it is crazy for movies with low budget but not for movie with 200million budget + reshoots + marketing. These types of movies needs to get at least twice their budget to be considered successful
Yeah got to think the rock movies never had any expectations always around 3 or 400 million. So this wasn’t a surprise it failed only movie he ever done hit a billion was the two fast furious movies and he wasn’t the reason it did so not surprising here
So before WB hired Gunn and Saffran DC didn’t have much leadership and DJ went to the top to try and fix it with a plan he thought would work. So costs went up with Black Adam (as they have done in the past with other movies) and it wound up not making the money they thought. He took a shot and it didn’t work out. Now it looks like WB is looking to make him the bad guy. That’s what this looks like to me
The problem is Rock's "plan" seems totally egocentric and hamfisted. Nobody wants to see the Rock fight Superman for three movies straight. Black Adam is not and should not be the face of the DCEU.
I understand where they are coming from,I just think it’s kind of nice to see someone excited about the role and wanting to do multiple movie deals. It sucks it didn’t work out but if it did seeing how black Adam went on in future movies would have been interesting. I do agree with the statement the rock plays as himself in every movie, but having him play as Black Adam could of possibly been his “Robert Downy is Iron Man” type roll 🤷🏾♂️
Yeah I agree. As a DC fan I like the history of Black Adam starts as a Shazam villain 1st. Then JL villain, then anti-hero. I honestly believe if he helped build up the Shazam IP 1st, Black Adam would’ve done much better at the box office. But eh, I’m just a fan.
@@samwest1097 exactly what I have been saying since rock started pushing himself as the central figure of dc, he ignored shazam and didn't even bother pushing or promoting shazam and Zachary levi, imagine him challenging levi to push his boundaries for the showdown between them, but no he wanted to beat supes and be the main guy
His ego (thinking he could rebirth DC with bringing back Henry to the joy of fans) and wanting producing credits on films he barely promoted for DC was pretty bold. He thought he would take it all and DC would have no choice but to go with it. He was wrong.

I will agree on 1 thing the DC Universe needs 1 hell of a shake up! No consistency at all, unlike Marvel, up till this phase anyway...
Marvel isn't aimless, they're aiming for Kang and Secret Wars... why people dislike Marvel nowadays is because Marvel has gone back to the pre-Infinity War days, and with a lot of jocular aspects that doesn't suit many fans. But not all criticisms are fair. She-Hulk is lambasted for cracking jokes, what the hell? She-Hulk is just like that, but you can legitimately question the jokes that are SJW/woke-type.
Honestly if we gave Dwayne a chance he does listen to the fans so I don’t doubt maybe a few minor mistakes but he would make dc the way us fans wanted it
Rock did what he did when he was in the ring and that’s listen to us fans and gave us what we wanted in bringing back the best modern era Supes just for new ppl to scratch it all away and give false narratives into why it happened. Glad we got this and JL Zack Snyderverse.
I loved this movie. Man of Steel is my favorite of this genre. Now that my favorites are gone, I wish the studios the best. Unlikely they’ll get me to the theater. ✌🏽
He's really trying to find a franchise to take over and it's not working out. Hence the reason he created his own production company so he can pull the things he's doing that he normally couldn't if he didn't have that company. I wonder what franchise he's gonna try forcing himself into next
Vin Diesel has been able to do it a few times. The Rock's problem is that he's a terrible actor. He's really only good for kid's movies. He should try a "DC Babies" or "DC kids" series where he can be a prominent adult hero/villain. Even Teen Titans seems like too much mature content for his abilities.
There are lots of actors like that and that's why we love their movies, because we know exactly what we're going to get. If their personality doesn't align with the character, then there's a big problem.
DC films are interesting, and there are no doubts. There is something they are not doing right behind close doors that mavel films are doing. I suspect... marketing, synergy among all the players to make a movie sell in the market, also not trying to out do themselves but working for one purpose.
Also they sold themselves as the "serious, darker" comic films, trying to be different than Marvel. Bottom line that gamble failed. People want to have a good time at the movies, so now they will have to basically become Marvel just with DC characters to Hopefully steal away the popularity.
@@alexl.4362 I call bullshit on this respectfully. The Batman was dark and brooding and all emo and was times better than Black Adam. Black Adams script was it's downfall. What we got vs all the hype was way below expectation.
DC films lack unity between them. Early on DC films were and still are a mixed bag in terms of quality. Marvel had mostly great films out of the gate and they have positioned themselves to where a lot of people will see Marvel movies just to stay in the loop with the universe since they're so interconnected. DC is all over the place in terms of cohesion between films so it really doesn't matter if you miss the latest DC film.
Johnson's ego is insufferable. He tried strong-arming execs to reshape an entire cinematic universe around him. He had 10 years to build and develop the film and this is the best they could come up with? And on top of all that, he had little to no interest in Shazam, preventing any BA character to cameo in Fury of the Gods? This man should be kept FAR away from any franchise
No wonder Vin Diesel didnt like him on the set of F&F, he was probably trying to take over that franchise aswell. Ive been hearing alot of shady shit about Dwayne Johnson. He also played a part to why Brendan Fraser left Hollywood
You're replying to rumors with more rumors without knowing what really happened or what was said, yet you put it out as facts. Typical internet follower. In 2023 do better.
The Rock's ego went too far this time. You can't have a compelling character when the actor contractually insists he cannot lose a fight (or look weak) in any of his films. The plot was also just too bare-bones for anything to work well. DC should stick to doing solo films like Joker and The Batman instead of trying to copy Marvel with the crossovers and cameos. Marvel itself is seeing the downside of going that route, so all other studios would be wise to pay attention.
Loved the film black Adam. And with his take over having crumbled, look at where we are now. Lost cavil and Ben. But still keeping the child grooming drug seller.
He demanded his drink at a bar? A BAR?! Yeah I will take The Rock's side on this one considering he has never come across as anything but a professional and the DC film execs have shown nothing but years of incompetence and interference.
Trying to place blame strictly on the Rock as the source of WB/DC problems is like blaming the cook for not pushing more hamburgers at an all vegan restaurant. The point being, the prior WB/DC leadership and writers were trying to force feed bad material as being good. Stop chasing Marvel's formula and just simply create compelling stories/narratives around DC's characters.
I don’t believe that he is as fault as they are making him out to be. Why the hell would you get rid of cavil as Superman. The guy was exceptional in the role. I’m not sure what really happened but I’ll tell you this, WB had a huge part to play in it
Black Adam sucked but it didn't have to. It had a lot of potential and Johnson was the perfect cast for Black Adam. Just like Cavill is the perfect cast for Superman. But all the DCEU movies suffer from horrible writing and no sense of direction or continuity, and usually no sense of urgency either. It's just all a disjointed mess. Lets see what WB did wrong: 1. Getting Christopher Nolan involved in Man of Steel created brand confusion since it came out right on the heels of the Nolan Batman trilogy. So that led to everyone wondering if MoS took place in the Nolan universe. It didn't. And left a lot of people disappointed which is a bad start for a brand new universe you're trying to build. They should have NOT included Nolan in MoS at all to avoid the confusion. 2. Tonally, MoS was just weird. Superman is supposed to be bright, and hopeful. Instead it was drab and dark and macabre. You can have a grounded superman without it being too gritty. They should not have had Zak Snyder direct a Superman movie. He would have been a great Batman director, or a great Black Adam director though. 3. When the DCEU started there were A TON of different ongoing DC/Batman projects. Gotham, Titans, numerous cartoons on various stations, the Arrowverse. This also led to brand confusion. It's gotten even more complicated lately now with Joker, The Batman, Batgirl, and Pennyworth. Too many different bats at the same time. 4. There was some great casting choices in the DCEU (Cavill as Supes, Gadot as WW, Johnson as Black Adam, and whoever that guy is that played Cyborg) BUT they had some very bad casting choices too, such as Eisenberg for Lex Luthor, whoever the Flash actor is, and Momoa as Aquaman. 5. Doing Batman V Superman too early in the DCEU. This was basically a Justice-League-lite type movie that introduced too much, too soon. Lex, Doomsday, Wonder Woman, and a inter-hero conflict all in one movie, two movies into the DCEU? That was destined to cause problems. 6. Doing Justice League too early in the DCEU. The same problem as before but to a greater degree. WB just couldn't hold it's load and was eager to do some thrusting. Avengers was the 6th movie in the MCU and had already done 5 solo movies, and 4 origin stories before the ensemble movie. WB fumbled this greatly. Plus, the movie wasn't any good and made zero sense. 7. Suicide Squad sucked 8. Wonder Woman was only good by the rest of the DCEU standards. That movie also sucked though. 9. WW1984 sucked way worse than WW. 10. Aquaman again, was only good by the rest of the DCEU standards. On its own, it was okay. 11. Shazam was actually a good movie. Nothing to complain about there. BUT, they should have made Black Adam a villain in a Shazam movie, NOT made him his own protagonist in his own movie. I think this was at the insistence of Johnson. Bad call, obviously. 12. THE Suicide Squad was actually a very good movie too, but too little too late. 13. Birds of Prey was hot garbage that no one liked and even fewer people watched. So there have been 11 movies, of which 5 completely sucked, 2 were good, 4 were mediocre at best, half the original cast has been booted. Not a well executed plan.
Not surprised he tried to make everything about himself after what happened in the F&F franchise where he tried to do the same and that didn't go well with the other actors that were there longer.
DC needs to wait at least 15 more years to do a reboot. Why? You may ask.. Because we're fresh off of the Synder Verse, vaguely fresh off of Nolan's Batman trilogy. It's too much in a short time span. Now they have another big wig, about to do another Universe in a span of a 3yr time gap. Let the superhero thing breathe it's last breath, then in 2028-2029 bring it back. We've just seen Cavil on Screen as Sups. Now we're getting another Sups late this year or next. We just got a new Batman after seeing Bale's & Affleck's. Too much too soon. We've had 4 Jokers, DKR, Suicide Squad, The Joker, and small scenes from the new Batman... CHILL. It's too much. What makes it worse is that they only focus on like 4 characters. CHILL!!

I used to be a superfan of The Rock, was happy he branched off into movies. At first it was great, with ones like The Rundown, Faster, even The Game Plan. Then he made some weird choices, did some corny movies and landed a role on a Fast & Furious movie. I can't pin it down, but sometime between getting into that franchise and jacking up his muscle mass the dude became a different person, at the same time as his acting....stopped. Now he's just Hobbs in every movie. And has a weird anti-hero fixation. It's been at least 10 years since I eventually actively avoided any movie he's in. Every now and then I give his movies a chance (like Black Adam) but nope, still playing Hobbs, still got an ego the size of Saturn. And don't get me started on the grotesque plugging of his alcohol at every opportunity, sheesh. This latest saga with DC and WB just confirms this man has lost his way. Or has the wrong people around him.
Lately I've been getting tired of the rocks phoniness. And this sort of confirms my suspicions about how he's an actor who tries to play the humble saint in real life, but at the same time is shady AF.
Whether or not anyone agrees with the way the rock was "trying to take over and make things happen behind people's back" doesn't really matter to me because I think it was a great freaking idea and it probably would have brought DC to a much needed higher level to have awesome better movies in the DC Universe especially ones of the main characters that I believe saved the franchise in the first place like Henry Cavill being Superman and The Rock being Black Adam and also Gal Gadot being Wonder Woman, and having those movies working up the way Marvel did to become one big Superman versus Black Adam movie. I think it's an amazing idea I think they're just mad because they didn't think of it and didn't have the drive The Rock did does so they ended up shutting it down smh personally who the hell cares who went where and did what🤷♂️ it's a great idea and the development and continuation of it had a wonderful possibilities. I feel like they cut off their nose to spite their face because of the delivery just like in all the big department corporation work setting BS and now the whole franchise has to suffer including the fans like me that would love to see a black Adam versus Superman movie 🤷♂️🤦♂️
It feels great to actually hear someone call the facts like it is. Everyone is out here acting like The Rock is a whole victim. He employed an aggressive strategy (as he should he knows his worth) that backfired. This is not the climate for big budget blockbusters anymore, James Gunn is destined to fail too.
He had a choice where he could have actually played the character and not himself in this film. Would have been so much better. Could have been a good opportunity for people to see him as someone else but himself. Even though he looks just like himself in Jumanji, he played the character in it and not himself, and look how entertaining that was to watch.
What Gunn and the other what's-his-face have succeeded was to alienate most of the long-time fans of DC (people in their 30s-60s) and also made sure that young audiences (under 30), who didn't really cared about the franchise, continue to not care about the franchise. If they reset everything, they will not start from scratch, thei will start from ZERO, like any fledgling, brand new, franchise-attempt.
Dwayne really misunderstood the attraction of superhero movies; its not about seeing increasingly more ultra powerful people destroying more computer generated cities...its not JUST spectacle. The best superhero movies are still character movies (Spider-man 2, Iron Man movies, Captain America etc)

Despite it failing, it's frightening how much power one actor can have over studios and production. If he does decide to go to Marvel next, they'll probably give him whatever he wants, that's the sad thing.
marvel doesn’t operate with high profile names as their leads. they usually create the ‘stars’ through their starring of the character, so johnson coming in and demanding specifics from feige just isn’t realistic. every movie, he feels he needs to be THAT guy, the dude who fixes everything, the hero who is always at the center of every scene. marvel doesn’t work like that😂

I actually liked the movie. I would have liked to see the standoff between Superman and Black Adam.
It wasn’t a bad film at all
Really, how much different would it be from Superman and Gen Zod?

I think that the Rock's best movie was "The Tooth Fairy" with Julie Andrews and Billie Crystal. It was funny as hell and Dwayne actually acted really well in it. So before WB hired Gunn and Saffran DC didn’t have much leadership and DJ went to the top to try and fix it with a plan he thought would work.

Trying to place blame strictly on the Rock as the source of WB/DC problems is like blaming the cook for not pushing more hamburgers at an all vegan restaurant. The point being, the prior WB/DC leadership and writers were trying to force feed bad material as being good. Black Adam failed because no one really cares about Black Adam the character
Lets see what WB did wrong:
7. Suicide Squad sucked
The Rock did not deserve this treatment. He wants the best for DC.
He wants whats best for himself

It feels great to actually hear someone call the facts like it is. Everyone is out here acting like The Rock is a whole victim. He employed an aggressive strategy (as he should he knows his worth) that backfired. This is not the climate for big budget blockbusters anymore, James Gunn is destined to fail too.
Whatever that is - I wish MCU signs Henry Cavill to play Sentry in the next lineup of their films or even Hyperion.
He had a choice where he could have actually played the character and not himself in this film. Would have been so much better. Could have been a good opportunity for people to see him as someone else but himself.
Even though he looks just like himself in Jumanji, he played the character in it and not himself, and look how entertaining that was to watch.
I loved this movie and I was hoping for a new direction and vision... Wait we had that with Zach Snyder... Nevermind.

Dwayne as an actor, doesn't matter if his acting is good or bad, has all the rights to promote his movie and character. I don't see anything wrong here. He is one of the highest paid actor. And he did try to bring Henry Cavill back to please the fans. Jeez! grow up Looper and move on!
Black Adam was horrible because Dwayne Johnson only knows how to play The Rock.
yeah dwayne overstepped but still not as bad as anything ezra miller and amber heard did, AND THEY STILL HAVEN'T BEEN FIRED YET
Amen
Big facts.
Black Adam was actually good. It was better than every other DC movie except for the Snider Cut. Suicide Squad was good, too.
L Movie
I’ve had my doubts about Johnson for two years.
Despite it failing, it's frightening how much power one actor can have over studios and production. If he does decide to go to Marvel next, they'll probably give him whatever he wants, that's the sad thing.
Movie bombed I doubt it. But they still accept him in
marvel doesn’t operate with high profile names as their leads. they usually create the ‘stars’ through their starring of the character, so johnson coming in and demanding specifics from feige just isn’t realistic. every movie, he feels he needs to be THAT guy, the dude who fixes everything, the hero who is always at the center of every scene. marvel doesn’t work like that😂
@@log1kanobi facts
This sounds more like the Rock trying to do his best at marketing the film and providing input to the films and future ideas. It’s hardly a takeover attempt.
You Looper guys are like 5 weeks behind on your news... lol but ok.
Better late truth than early lies.
I don't hear anything wrong here, just that Johnson had ambitions to try and salvage the DCEU, how is that a bad thing? ...And now some people claim without evidence whatsoever that he was being a diva? Please.I know it's Looper not AP but c'mon now...
Looks like a Guy working hard to make his Movie Popular and Successful.
How is this dark or Bad in any way ?
