for YEARS, ever since they started!!!!!!! Toby was the rap, kevin was the rock, and michael was the soul! i'd say since carmen's addicted to jesus single in '88
High quality nostalgia..Man listening to music like this from when I was a lil kid brings to back to the worry free times in life. Love all of you guys, and God's son Jesus has your back!
Oh Toby, if only you were as good now as you were then. *sniffles* its a sad, sad thing. I liked the fanny packs! Man, how trendy! But, yeah, this was the good stuff i was raised on!!! Hallelujah, Praise the LORD!
i'm from amsterdam (europe) but my father was on vacation in atlanta in '89 and he brought me back the album singles.ON CASSETTE! i haven't heard this for like almost 20 years
Yes, this was their first album. We didn't have Christian music radio stations in Chicago back then, so this video was my introduction to the group. For some reason the local Christian tv station had two 1 hour Christian music video shows (or were they half hour each?) and that's how I found some great bands. My love and collection of Christian music/bands grew from there.
My friends and I performed this at our College Harvest Festival! So much fun...I did the rap and my friends who are Caucasian and Hispanic did the vocals! We rocked it if I do say so myself!
One of my first Christian rap albums was this DC Talk cassette with the song "Heavenbound" back in 1989. When I became a Christian in 1986 I thought Christian music was only the hymns I was hearing in church. Bands like DC Talk opened my eyes that there are many different genres of Christian music. I loved to focus on God as I was listening to this cassette. The latest Christian music is still influenced by the members of DC Talk.
DC Talk performed live at my High School had to have been between 1981 - 1983. Most every girl attending got a poster which they all autographed personally. It was an awesome experience. I'm not sure they were expecting us to line up to have them sign their poster, as I recall it sent school staff scrambling to go find more pens. =D
Kevin Max is clearly underrated. In my opinion, he is one of the most talented lyrical singers in secular or Christian music. He added an equal talent in the group like everyone else in DC Talk. DC Talk wouldn't be the same without Kevin or any other member.
There is a partial live version of this in the Free at Last movie ... They put it to a better beat .... Face it Toby's skills (while not cutting edge in 1989) were far above the production values of the record and video. They deserved a lot better.
It goes to show you where they are now. Toby Mac has done alot more tours, Michael Tait is currently with the Newsboys, and Kevin just reappeared on the scene to do the single with them!
This rap-song is really old school, without a doubt. But it's always a pleasure to look and listen. It's also remarkable how they're changed in their music career.
WOW bring it back... waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back... this is one of the first hiphop groups I've every listened to and seen live... Prince George like WAAAAAHT!. I then turned to E.T.W. and later Cypress hill and House of Pain... THanks DC TALK!! nice post too dude!
Yep, '89, because Nu Thang came out in '90. I was a freshman in high school when their debut album came out. Man just thinking about this makes me feel old
So many songs, videos, miracles etc. that I never saw. Now, in salvation I see a whole new world. A world this world and its prince desired to hide from me.
this is hilarious!!! the hair! toby's voice is so high... kevin's hair is horrible... that doesn't sound like michael... I'm crying from laughing so hard! Thanx for sharing!
That's awesome! They're so baby-faced here, it's weird to watch. Even Toby's voice sounds really young. The 80's/90's fashion...hmmm...XD XD XD I usually hate it personally, but I love these guys so much that it actually is so dorky, it's adorable!:D
It was their first album. The only music the group made prior to signing with Forefront Records was a 2 song demo they recorded in 1988 titled "Christian Rhymes to a Rhythm, which featured only Michael Tait and TobyMac. Kevin Max would join shortly after, and the rest is history.
oh, 1989....I thought I missed you until I saw the fanny packs. Gotta love DC T though....and keepin it real because as this sounds nothing like rap today, this is what a LOT of rap sounded like then.
I have this album that it's on! I absolutely love them and gotta say that I acutually like their rap days better! (My all-time favorite album by them is actually Free At Last)
Oh, man, that was a long time ago! The one song I wish was up off this same record was called "Hallelujah" . One of the songs that saved my life, I think....
My older sister had an old DCTalk video from the time of this video & I so wish I could find the whole video not just this song. we used to watch it alot good time w/ my sister. My little sister & I made a video out of this song also
omg i luv dc talk! i was really little when i first heard them but they left a big impact on my life so i recognized their older work right away^^ and whats even better is that vic mignogna helped make a couple songs^^
I taped this video in 97 or 98, but the video tape kinda mess up so happy to see this ion youtube. OMG, first time I saw this video, I was so shocked it was dc Talk. I find it funny, but even back then their message was awesome.
Here is a fantastic music video that the Christian world will love! It's called "Don't forget about the walk." It was written and created by a small town pastor that is also making a feature film and has written four books. You don't want to miss it! You can go to his website by going to alanmakimusicDOTcom and seeing his music video on the media tab or search for Alan Maki on youtube or Godtube. It would only take a second to look. Show some support! He has wonderful devotionals and an app too!
Actually Kevin has had a pretty good career. He's got a pretty good following. Not as popular as the other 2 in some reguards but his talents arent' going unnoticed
This is embarrassing. But it's cute. ;) And Mike will forever be my Never-Met-Him-Sweetie. :D Love the DCT. Side note, I could swear that mall is the one across from my college. Any super dcTalk fans know which one it is?
for YEARS, ever since they started!!!!!!! Toby was the rap, kevin was the rock, and michael was the soul! i'd say since carmen's addicted to jesus single in '88

DC Talk performed live at my High School had to have been between 1981 - 1983. Most every girl attending got a poster which they all autographed personally. It was an awesome experience. Oh MAN! I never knew they had vids from the first album!!! Toby had (has) some serious mic skills.
It goes to show you where they are now. Toby Mac has done alot more tours, Michael Tait is currently with the Newsboys, and Kevin just reappeared on the scene to do the single with them!

Kevin has a mullet! Oh my gosh! I love these guys, though.
I remember bringing this up with the guys in about 2000. They're quite embarrassed about this era of their music.
Michael Tait fits perfectly here.

Listen to this and then listen to Red Letters from Supernatural...what an evolution!
Actually Kevin has had a pretty good career. He's got a pretty good following. Not as popular as the other 2 in some reguards but his talents arent' going unnoticed
I never relized that dc talk was this old.
