Honestly I love every dc Talk album. There's not a cringe-worthy moment listening to it especially the 1989 debut and Nu Thang. I'm getting the Word of God in my heart while grooving to it. MOMENTUM is still my favorite album. Out of all the discography/repertoire that Toby released, that one set me on fire!!!
Jesus Freak! First concert I ever went to probably 24 years ago. I introduced my 8 year old to it last week and now it’s all he wants to listen to. I love the old stuff.
When I was younger I would have agreed with you and now that I'm in my early 40s, the one song that resonates with my heart and sticks with me the most is Colored People.
I think this interview really brought out a real tobymac. So fun to watch him re-live the past. So great! On a side note- ( I kinda miss that intense momentum toby)
It was perfect..it caught my 90s R&B Black pretty girl of now 40 sumthin self..thank you ChristineSimmons ex heavy metal chic for giving me DC TALK back in high school
Best childhood man, first time I seen them in concert in ‘88 or ‘89 in Jersey, I was about 7 or 8, got their autographs, I was shy going up to them, miss those times 😢 That’s when I started liking hip-hop ✊🏻
I'm 55, and I am DEF-IN- IT-LY leaning in to the whole history of the DC TALK years! Tonight, ran my mile, blasting the whole JESUS FREAK album (album? What that?) Singing at the top of my lungs, WE'RE COLORED PEOPLE AND WE DEPEND ON OUR HOLY GRACE...! I'ma die-hard, Jesus FREAKK! Lol..God bless, y'all!
I'll be honest I didn't get into DC Talk til The Free At Last Album because I thought everything before that just sounded corny. My friend who was big into them played nu thang and their other stuff when it first came out and I was like no. Then we were at his house and he played Love is a Verb and I was like what is that?! He said DC Talk. I was like wait the same guys from before that sounded corny?! He was like yeah. Now I was like now this sounds pretty good! I was fan after that.
Funny. About the time a certain freak of an album was making the rounds the some of the AA guys swung by the LU student radio station to hang out (I didn't ask). The topic of DC Talk came up. Asked if we keep DC Talk catalogue on hand. Do I? Oh yessir. Prepare to be dazzled, Audio Adrenaline. _Round round, you're spinning round, you're life goes round and round (g-g-guitar)_ Needless to say, they left that night feeling much much better their station in life.

I hate when people rip on old DCT. You have to look at all the music that was happening at the time and they were right there with it. I have such fond memories of this kid from my church singing "Round round, your spinnin' round" and then finally hearing the tape and hearing what he was singing. We wore that thing out! P.I.D., D Boy, End Time Warriors!
@TobyMac God used you to impact my life back then, and he's using me to impact my life now. So thank you. 21 is song I am playing every day as we walk our own difficult season. Thank you
Toby, DC talk was amazing! I love your music now but, don't mess with your old self. DC talk compared to your music now I listen to it more. I reflect on the lyrics a lot. I hope that one day I could be like, that and sing amazing like that as well. If u think it was cringy let me tell u that it's one of the best things ever ! I can't even compare it to other Christian song! Love it and your music too, God bless and keep it up!❤✌✝
I think it would be cool for next year a greatest hits album by TobyMac to come out for the momentum 20th anniversary I know hard to believe but pretty awesome.
Please ask Toby McKeehan, also know as Toby Mac, how it came to be that DC Talk got the song "Things Of Things World" and the words for "Jesus Freak". What's the story behind the inspirations? Were there other song writers who were there at the right time who influenced the direction? Someone who naturally spoke in rhyme about not really caring if anyone labeled them as a Jesus Freak?
I'm 51 and i embrace it because, i know God used it. And about a month ago i moved back to the town i used to live in the 90's when i heavily listened to D.C. Talk. Since "The Talk" brings back memories....i think i'm gonna play it.
If you go to the DC Talk official website or their Vevo channel, it does almost seem like Toby & the guys would like you to believe that DC Talk's career began with "Jesus Freak". There's no music or videos from the first album or from "Nu Thang" and only a little bit of mention of "Free At Last". I guess they really do "cringe" at the music from their early days.
Amen I agree it dosent change because of a supposed Christian song.Jeses come quickly. That narrow path i fully understand it now.He is copying the world we as Christians aren't to be of the world i don't care if u put Jesus name in a song 20 times if its sounding like the world guess what it is wordly.I wish people would read there Bible
Lol this is funny but he keeps getting cut off lol

Nu thing is a way better song than Toby's very recent songs. Except "Everything" That's a great song, so is Edge of my seat. So is momentum, Atmosphere and his other albums since 2000. Just now his recent songs like I just need u. Play your kids Jesus freak Toby!

that's awesome! Toby's the real deal. but his being open to this topic is huge for us xian's that strive to be ever more real and less hypocritical like Jesus wants. if we all we're doing that, sure does take care of a lot of our problems in society.
I think they did this the day WayNation posted their song battle with TobyMac because his shirt is the same and his hat. Plz don’t judge me I just noticed that because WayNation only has 1 video with him
Please forgive me for being a troll but I Kinda don’t like how his current live set pretty much abandoned the TobyMac I remember in love still to this day I may like the current pop sound but I prefer the old rock sound from the 2001 to 2010 days so I came up with an idea for a new tour where it opens up with the current pop sound for an hour and a half followed by an intermission then an hour and a half of the old rock sound from 2001 to 2010 once again I’m not asking for a DC Talk reunion but as far as TobyMac goes I would like to see a tour like this to hear these old songs again I know it kind of sounds similar to newsboys United but either way I would like to see a TobyMac song reunion tour, So here’s what I think the set list should be like opening 1 The elements 2 til theday I die 3 me without you 4 everything 5 Beyond me 6 speak life 7 I just need you 8 Love broke through 9 steal my show 10 see the light 11 move keep walking 12 scars 13 i’m sorry 14 21 years 15 lights shine Bright 16 feel it 17 eye on it then a 20 minute intermission then opening again with 1 tonight 2 catch that fire Woopsie Daisy 3 made to love 4 burn for you 5 Irene 6 The slam 7 get back up 8 yours 9 ignition 10 Boomin 11 funky Jesus music 12 gone 13 I’m for you 14 lose my soul 15 hold on 16 city on our knees and clothes out the night with 17 Extreme days. organically and lean in lol... who the H else with CCM could have performed on the same stage, on cable, as Christopher Wallace back then? maybe Jenn, idk? Lecrae was like 8 years old. idk? Jeremy Ridder? idk dude.
The fact that he can he still hit that "it's time TA JAM" in the same pitch. Lol!
I agree with Joy. Don’t question the greatness! 😂
naw, Tony's great cause Jesus is Great.
I agree with you! Except I think DC Talk was better than anything any of them are doing now. Just my opinion. 🙂👍✌

Hearing this and the fact that your 8 year old son loves it brought tears to my eyes and filled me with nothing but joy! Keep the Candle burning!
DC Talks song "Minds Eye" still makes me have to pull the vehicle over and cry.
I wore a "Jesus Freak" t-shirt to highschool after becoming a Christian at 16. Good times.
Pertinent question currently is how is your relationship with Jesus now? That's what's important!
Probably better than kevin max relationship @stitchy_linn
I still say Jesus Freak is probably the best Christian song ever produced.
What if I Stumble, Consume Me break my heart
Best song of the 90s!

DC Talk "Yo Ho Ho" is a yearly staple on my holiday playlist!
Toby had a good nugget of wisdom there. We may not like parts of our past, even the successes, but our experiences make up who we are today.
I love Toby's cheezy hits From the 90s WHAT!
I still play Nu Thang the album in my car today via Spotify to my wife rolling her eyes cause she knows I'm stuck in the 90s lol
No mater where you are Mr. Mac your love and energy for God is infectious Hallelujah
I still love DC talk .
TobyMac is forever my favorite artist!!!!!! ❤️
