I know a guy who has been buying tires for 10 plus years and dumping them into his quarry on his land. It is about 100ft wide and over a 150ft deep. The water is so merky nobody will ever know and he has made a fortune from doing so. He hauls 2 trailer loads a day.
I have watched Dick Knipfing for years... First on KOAT, then KRQE. He is definitely a piece of Albuquerque history!!! Every time we would go to our Grandparents house, he was there, on the news.
This would never happen in my province. Every tire disposal yard has at the very least a hydraulic power tire chopper. The tires are trucked off to businesses that shred the tires and sell the separated steel and rubber pallets. We have been doing this since the 1980s. Farmers were the first to set up a side business to do this because they hated the effects of nearby tire dumps ruining their land. A tire fire would destroy farmland for miles down wind from all the toxic ash. This is just common sense.
I feel for the old man, I don't agree with him, but I feel for his need for privacy. But ultimately, dumping the tires into the water isn't helping anyone.
Drop a match and problem solved. They're in the middle of nowhere, impossible to extinguish and tyres would plug up the sieves on pumper trucks. No more pollution than a volcano spews out.
So it's a fire hazard as a tire but grind it up and all of a sudden its safe enough to sprinkle of every yard in my neighborhood.... I dont believe a word these news casters say.
I forgot about this story. However Don't we chop up rubber tires and dump them on playgrounds across the country? So how is it that these rubber tires are toxic yet those rubber tires are fine? I would imagine that it is much easier to burn small pieces of rubber than it is to ignite 1 full tire. We use tires under roads as a sub surface gravel/soil lock. We use tires to build retaining walls and some even build homes out of used tires. Hell you can go to home depot and buy a bag of recycled tires and dump them all over your vegetable garden and then eat those veggies. I guess they do some magic to make rubber not that toxic. What a crock of shit.
That would be inhumane according the UN...sad that thieves and murders get to sit in AC and eat 3 meals a day for free while I am out here working my a$$ off just to pay bills.
So comical. He lives I'm sure in an area that most wouldn't want to. The land is cheap and he isnt bothering anybody. Leave it to the New Mexican government to spend unnecessary money and put a lien on some land that isn't even worth a grand an acre. Bravo.... The tax payer will foot the bill.
All those environmental tire recycling home builders are in store for the same treatment by the Government. Did you forget about those people building houses out of old tires, I didn't ! If it is set on fire I would be looking at Government employees out to prove a point , not the man building fences.
This goes to show that you can't OWN anything in this country. You can think you own a house or land but you don't. Try not paying property taxes and see what happens to your land and who really owns it! Good Luck.
LeonitasMaximus Are you saying it's OK to create illegal dumps on your land which could contaminate soil and water? Since when land ownership exempted people from paying land tax? You need to study history, land taxes existed for millennia.
No I am saying spend our time worrying about fixing the most important issues instead of focusing on the ankle biting ones. Also yes there has always been land tax and property tax. That just shows you for how long you have not been able to actually own land. You lease if from the government.
@@leonitasmaximus4004 taxes were introduced hundreds of years before America was discovered. I still don't get what you are annoyed about? You are not leasing the land from government , you are paying land tax.
@Diego Perez.... I am annoyed that our attention is put on the things that will be the least impactful for the $$ and effort spent. While this 1 man is harassed on his property even if it is illegal. We allow pollution on much larger scales by manufacturing companies, factories, etc and they massively affect our planets pollution. Yet because they can fight and lobby for their way and have more pull/power they can continue to make our planet toxic. Meanwhile this news broadcast and the people on it are up in arms over it talking about the millions it would cost to clean up. Why not spend those millions of dollars on fixing the real issues. When that's all fixed go pull some tires out of the water. Also what types and amounts of toxicity do you think is being produced by the tires? What happens when it rains.......? Millions and Millions of cars drive every day. When they do the continuously deposit all those Fearful Toxic chemicals all over the roads right? Then the rain comes and washes all of that into drains, soil, runs off into bodies of water and rivers. So please explain to me the health hazards and toxicity that those tires in the water are producing versus all the toxic rubber chemicals that are being washed into our water tables daily? The truth is that you yourself by driving (if you drive, maybe your ride a unicorn to work) are producing more toxic (tire) waste into the planet than those stationary tires are. But hey you did hear on the news that it was bad so I don't blame you for jumping on that train.
Plus you latched onto one sentence I made about never "Truly" owning land. I am aware that taxes exist. Even hundreds of years ago it was a system where you leased the kings, Queens or any other "Owner" of the land. Its the subsequent result of a Ruler who has Taken over a Land. Claims if for themselves and is nice enough to let you breath on it if you pay them. If you don't they would have killed you. Now they just throw you in jail and take it back. So the point is you don't own your land. No matter what you think.
There is a guy in new mexico named micheal reynolds making homes out of tires.... They should ship them to taos so people could make better use out of them. Earthships are awesome. I wish they could be built everywhere.
Honestly this old man can take some of the tires not for his wall and mulch it and sell it to some pompas rich folk to sprinkle on their lawns. Make a fortune doing it too.
Why is this guy not in jail? It does make me laugh how America has 2.4 trillion dollars to spend on Iraq and Afghanistan but it doesn't have 1 million to clean up american soil...
hi the tire are all good for rececling you have companie in the state to deal whit that get the trucks and the prisener labor and it will not coast 1 millions

Way too tiring to clean that mess up.
Burning rubber from tires creates arsenic

A million dollars to throw some tires in dump trucks...
That tyre fence is pretty cool though..
at 25cents and almost 400k tires he made almost 100k!
All he wants is enough money to buy ciggarettes.

Take the retires to recycle and pay the man for the recycle tires y'all get rid of them or use them to make houses natural houses

Yeah just let him dump poison into a river
@Lil' Red GTO you dont have to be a liberal to know that tires are hazardous materials and poisonous to injest

Well the government was able to collect fees and taxes from all the business conducted so thats means its ok
Пора уборкой заняться🤠
What the hell is wrong with people
They say lots of things don’t they
These tires are really great for building cheap walls, and great for erosion control. This old man has got it right.
The old man should get a "land patent" and they can't do nothing to him.
Me and my little brothers burnt 100 tyers on our farm
I'd just burn it all burning tires is good for the environment
you have a State prison don't you? so boom free labor. problem solved
State prefers to leave them sitting in jail doing nothing sucking up money from the tax payers.

So tire shops and tire companies can store tires outside but citizens can’t?? And how exactly do tires on his property affect other people??
