Never underestimate stupidity in large groups, they can almost always drown out the more educated voices among them hence why man-made disasters like this continue to happen.
There are 300 000 tires in the sea. The workers removed 1/3 of the tires in 4 years. Work out the number of tires that still need to be removed and how many tires they are able to remove in one week.
REALITY VS DESPERATE RELIEF. at its announcement to today 🥺 I still DO NOT believe "tires" rubber specifically...should be in our WATER, OCEANS AND SEAS...😮😢😵💫.
Who in the right mind would think dumping rubber into the ocean would create a reef? I am glad efforts were made to remove the tires, but this is an environmental disaster and a costly mistake. They could have easily melt the tires and recycle it to make turf, school playgrounds, and road banks.
Rubber absorbs all heavy metals. When rubber decomposes, those metals leak out. The rubber tires are made out of aren't pure rubber to begin with. Rayon, zinc, naphthalene and PAH are all chemicals contained in tires. If tires are used, make sure to keep them far from humans. Plants/trees are usually very hardy, they will survive the polution easily, however insects are not. So.. they will likely suffer and die from the pollution.

My guess is that they needed to dump a bunch of tires into the ocean, and found an excuse to do so.
nah it was environmentalists who thought they were smart
@@nofilter7955 Hardly, it was businessmen and politicians. There are very few actual environmentalists, and even fewer that actually have power and influence.
They dumped them tires because they had nowhere to store them and they couldn't melt the rubber because of the smell and pollution,
**dumps garbage in ocean** uhhhh.... yeah its for a artificial reef haha
10 years ro remove 1/3 of the tires? Is that correct???
This is what it looked like then, fish everywhere, after none at all.

But that amount of fish, for a project that has been dropped since 1970, is abysmal.

I can't believe the stupidity of doing this. Rotting rubber. What is wrong with Florida.
This is why my goal is to create large artificial reefs of metal and concrete
Why artificial!?
Why not make real Reef!

@Jimmy Strudel don’t use plastic man
@@ThatCasualZach clarification: artificial reefs that don't leach poison (like these tires did), and are properly anchored, turn into real reefs.
gta 5 made fun of this thing

Just saw his video hahah
Not knocking it but then vs now notice all the fish are gone? Then vs now, then had WAY more fish

The tires are not responsible for there being fish there it’s garbage that’s decomposing and breaking down in the water
I finally found the GTA tires
Thank You! Showing the END RESULTS was as Fanatical as its Inception 😢
So they didn't think the clips would eventually become worn and break?? It's doesn't take a genius!
It rather sounds like they had a problem getting rid of the tires so they came up with something to be legally able to dump them in the ocean.
"ground up and recycled" yeah right. You mean burned in a cement plant.
Who is the dummy who comes up with this idea ..
