Top-down Contra + Suicide Squad = Fixeight. XD The Suicide Squad parallel comes from the fact that the premise that the player characters are all condemned criminals who are basically sent on what amounts to a suicide mission in exchange for a chance to be pardoned.
Somebody noted the Suicide Squad comparison, I wonder if there are any translated interviews where they mentioned some of the comics being an influence, perhaps?
Huh? FixEight? Strange. It's a clone (and i do mean a true clone as it seems to be the same game) on steroids of the arcade game Outzone, which is a game i adore.
This reminds me of another similar game from Toaplan, called *Outzone*, although i like this game more.It has better graphics and a bigger variety of enemies.
Just recently found out about this game. I like it, its like a better version of Victory Road. Agatha and Lucy both being a couple of ass kicking babes doesn't hurt either😍 A fine addition to the MAME library.
Bigger....but definitely not better than Outzone....anyone would think this was the earlier game it seem so poor compared to its illustrious predecessor.

Oh yeah, & trust me you wont be disappointed...
It lacks the X-Factor that Outzone had for me, but most games don't reach those heights. It's still a good solid arcade shooter.
Cull Horn is the best character here.

Original has some unemulated encryption(don't know if that's still the case), try the bootleg version.
