Silicon Power UD90 - Much Faster Than What They Wrote!

- Silicon Power again gives us a nice Gen 4x4 M.2 SSD with great performance and I do have to say reliability. UD90 also is much faster than what they wrote on their website, so another huge plus in the books. Take a look at the benchmarks and review for more information.

Just bought the Silicon Power UD90 2 TB drive on New Egg for $95usd. Matches my Crucial P5 Plus in performance in most cases according to Tech Power Up and Crystal Disk Mark. Runs very cool too!
That is a nice price for sure. ;)
Did you add a heatsink to it?
@@ahmed512 My motherboard came with a heat sink so I used it.
Price continues to drop. $85usd on PC Parts Picker.
@@tonkatoytruck Let's gooo. :)
UD90 or XPG Atom 50 or Teamgroup Z440?
Im only getting 969mb/s readn and 851mb/s write with the 2tb version, what im I doing wrong? what is the best format?. Thanks
With what motherboard and processor are you using it?
Hi bro, the Silicon Power 4TB UD90 NVMe 4.0 Gen4 PCIe M.2 SSD is single sided or double sided?
Hi man, unfortunately, I never had the 4TB version and can't find that information online for you. Sorry. :(
@@PCCrazyDariowell thanks anyway :/
I was in need to upgrade my Editing system HDs. This is what I got and how they tested after install. Gen 4 slot SPCC M.2 PCI SSD 2T 4X4 ADV 2152.03 MAX 3571.43 MB/S, Gen 3 slot SPCC M.2 PCI SSD 4T 4x4 2598.54 ADV 3333.33 MAX MB/S, SATA3 CT4000MX500SSD1 408.30 ADV 485.44 MAX MB/S I was surprised of the speed of the gen 3 slot of the 4T drive in that slot. It did not slow down much.
Nice, thanks for the feedback and additional information. :)
@@PCCrazyDario I forgot to say I did not test them with Crystal benchmark. I did latter and the scores was closer to 5000 for some reason. Better than Performance Analyzer which is the tool i originally tested them with,.
Im new here. I just bought this for my first gaming tower build. Subscribed!
Is this any good to use on a ps5?
4tb is currently at $189
$180 now 👀
@@BIG_HAMZ Outstanding price! :)
Now down to $164! I've read many times that prices are going to tumble prior to Christmas 2023 so there's that!
@@algonquinloon6024 Cool, thanks for the information man!
Right now is is $175 at amazon
I bought one for my laptop and its temperature is 56°C idle reaching maximum of 85°C when playing. Extremely hot. Should I return it?
Why is it doing that. What game did you play?
would there be any problem with heat, if i have it directly underneath my RTX 4090?
Does the motherboard have a heatsink there or the SSD would be "naked"?
@@PCCrazyDario the ssd would be naked, the mobo has one heat sink for ssd but that oens already in use
@@jameslane2326 The best advice that I can give you is if you already have the second M.2 SSD, place it there and test it for half an hour. And follow the thermals on the SSD. Then you can decide. It should be ok, but just in case you have it, test it out. Otherwise, if the thermals are higher than usual, I would suggest grabbing a low-profile passive heatsink for the M.2 SSD.
Will Silicon Power 4TB UD90 NVMe 4.0 Gen4 PCIe M.2 SSD with R/W up to 5,000/4,500 MB/s work in a PS5 system?
I don't own a PS5, but as far as I know, most likely not because the speeds don't reach 7000MB/s
I using 4TB UD90 in PS5, R/W 4000~4300MB/s
@@stardustkr Is that even possible? I thought PS5 rejects those kind of SSDs because of the speeds...
Yes, but minimun requiredment for PS5 is 5.500 mb/s
@@JarlamDev Maybe so, but I heard ideal would be those M.2 Gen4x4 that reach 7.000MB/s.
does anyone know the reliability if this ssd ?? I saw some review that some drives die before a year or less
This one is still running at my friends build, but other than that, I have no more information about other samples. Sorry. :(
Believe me don’t buy it, it’s a junk. Personal experience
Do you reccomend this ssd for 55$ or an 970 evo plus for 45$?
Samsung definitely.
@@PCCrazyDario Why? Evo Plus is up 3.500 mb/s
@@JarlamDev Because of durability, consistency and stability. I'd rather sacrifice speed over those three factors.
I just nabbed one of these in 2tb from amazon for $78. My motherboard is pcie gen 3 and the listed read/write speeds of this drive are faster than the 4GB/s listed for PCIe gen 3 x4 so the difference between this drive and faster gen 4 drives should be minimal to me
Perfect catch then man! Congrats and glad you are satisfied. :)
I just got the 2Tb Gen4 version for $72 and read that running it on Gen 3 board kept its temp down even more so no cooler/heat sync needed!
@@algonquinloon6024 Yeah, because it isn't runnning at its peak performance. But good for you. :)
Which one of these would you recommend? For external enclosure:
Silicon Power UD9O 2TB
XPG Atom 50 2TB
TeamGroup Z440 2TB
TeamGroup MP44L 2TB
Solidigm P4 Plus 2TB
I would say it's a toss up between the mp44l z440 and ud90. the z440 and ud90 are newer flash but lack dram and hmb won't work externally. but those factors aren't really that big of a problem these days. the atom 50 2tb has a much slower controller than the 1tb so I would avoid it. soldigm is a worse version of the 670p Intel I believe.
@@jc_dogen thanks man. I agree. But z440 does have dram.
@@husseinaliabdulzahraal-dul1575 Oh you know what, my mistake.
I mixed up the mp44l and z440.

Here's a useful ssd spreadsheet, btw.
@dogen no worries. Thanks very much anyway, you've been of great help 👍🏻 so between mp44l and z440 which one do you prefer?
@@husseinaliabdulzahraal-dul1575 honestly, it's a toss up. the z440 has dram which is good for an external drive but you're gonna be limited by USB anyway. They'll all be fine.
Personally I bought the silicon power for my PC.
this will work with a playstation 5 right?
If the speeds are right, it should but I don’t have a PS5 so I couldn’t test it out
Got the 1TB for $89.99.
Solid price! :)
It still works?
@@user-zw1vu1qd9v yes
@@user-zw1vu1qd9v From my side, still at my friends PC working normally.
