If you have been considering an SSD upgrade for your Playstation 5 now that the feature is enabled, then chances are that of all the many PS5 compatible PCIe4 M.2 NVMe SSDs available to buy, that one of four models are at the top of your list. The WD Black SN850 (recommended by Mark Cerny), the Seagate Firecuda 530 (heavy endurance, high speed industry recommendation), the Samsung 980 Pro (widely available, fantastic performance and great value) and the Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus (great price vs capacity and fantastic architecture). These four SSDs have been the ones that have risen above most others, for various reasons, as the hottest picks for your PS5 storage upgrade. Each drive is pretty much the fastest and most capable drive from their respective brands and although there are a few close ones (such as the Aorus 7000s, ADATA Gamix S70 and PNY CS3140), they have not been as widely embraced at these four SSDs.

With the PS5 receiving a new update (currently in Beta at time of writing) one of the biggest and most requested features that has now finally been enabled is the M.2 NVMe SSD upgrade slot. It's been more than half a year since the launch of the PS5 and one of the biggest complaints from users (aside from stock levels being painfully low) is that the storage available in the default model is rather small.

Excellent video. I have friends and family who still haven't gotten a ssd for their ps5, and this video has brought to light an excellent ssd. Thank you very much!
Great video and really in-depth. And I'm not a tech head when it comes to the specs of ssds. Def going to buy this for my ps5. There was a lot of conflicting articles online for its use with the console. But seeing the data speed runs you put it through on various devices was very insightful. Great video. Will definitely check out more of your stuff.
I was just today looking to buy the Firecuda 530, but now I have to really consider this ssd.
Very nice 👍 and informative video, I would say the best video I have watched on PS5 SSD. I just bought the 2tb version of this SSD and I was happy to see I made a good choice. I'm a casual gamer and didn't want to run out of storage or have to delete games in order to install New ones. Thank - you for doing this video 📷📸 and helping someone who is not as tech savvy with SSD installation. You take care my friend.
Is it still working fine I’m thinking of getting the 4tb
I also saw the Kingston Fury ssd, seems to have very good numbers too
A sleeper High Performance M.2 is the HP FX900 Pro 4TB which has a 4GB DRAM for buffering and a Graphite Layer for heat dissipation.
@nascompares awesome and outstanding review! i absolutely appreciate you info, demo's and research! :)
I think you did a good job with this review, however I think you could have done a better Job with your end summary. I feel you could have compared it to better known brands for a point of reference, and possibly a tier list so we can understand your position on things. This SSD is £90 for the 2TB now and I feel this is incredible value, but I'm left wondering if you'd agree or spend a little bit more to get something else 🤷🏼♂️
Hello !
Does the presented Silicon Power SSD work well in the PS5 console ?
No lag, pixelation, tearing when running games ? Do all games run from the SSD without any problems ? Thank You your helping answer !
Have a nice day ! Bye !
Okay just bought the 2 TB and installed it yesterday, all the pieces are in place and everything is done, i started downloading a bunch of games and even tried one out (elden ring ) maybe 20-25 mins later it shut off and I had to restart, is it overheating? Or maybe should I try it after the games are downloading
Does the 4tb version have a DRAM chip on board? Thanks mate
my ps5 cant read this ssd, but when im using it on my pc theres no issue at all.. any suggestion?
Thanks!
I just wanted to give you a little something for your hard work. If this fee is being split between yourself and youtube, I will pay via your other support website.
SP are indeed good products at great pricing. Only problem I found, from actual experience, is them honouring the warranty. On pretty much every occasion they have rejected it and told me to go to the point of sale and sort it out with them. Even when it is past a reasonable time frame eg 2 years into the 5 year warranty. Shame as that is the one downside, and major one, on otherwise excellent choice.
Sadly, they also partswapped some of their SSDs outside of the usual partswapping.
UD90 for example is pretty much guaranteed QLC now. Otherwise yeah, great drives.
Oh I won't ever buy another now that I hear this. Thank u. They used to be my go to. None failed but still. I don't like that. Bs game companies play with us
Is the ssd tested with the plate on or off
I actually use this in my PC as its main drive. So far so good. I have another SP drive in my gaming PC that sits in my living room. Sure I have about another 12 terabytes of other drives like Samsung but I haven't noticed a difference for what my workload is and I use those as extra storage
Silicon Power XS70, also the 4tb version, is now sold with Innogrit IG5236 controller, instead of the Phison E18 as saw on the video and as initally available. Tactic: Sell the initial product with good specs to get great reviews, then replace with inferior internal components while keeping the same price.
i heard they changed the controller to inogrit on the newer production
Great Performance for the cost. I just bought a 4TB version without the added heat sink, because my motherboard has one built in for $229
Have you had any issues with yours? I got the 4TB one and runs good but I could be seeing things but is there any input lag on your end?
Love silicon power ssd. Great company and stand behind there warranty. Great videos, keep up the great work. 👍
Their*
mine is 1 TB and gets 5130 Mb/s read speed benchmark on the ps ????!!!!
Edit: I did a reformat and showed 6700 Mb/s, is that normal and how is that possible??
I've been using the 4TB in my PS5 and it's been working FLAWLESS!
I just ordered the 4tb hopefully it’s worth it 🙏🏼
@@juanelovevo7195 Hello, after 3 months, can you give your opinion? Have you had any problems? thank you
What about now? Has it been working well? No heat or memory issues?
I just got mine recently . Is there any input lag I feel like my button reactions are slow I might be tripping but I just wanna make sure
SSD’s don’t have anything to do with input lag.
This compare to Firecuda 530 and Corsair MP600 PRO LPX for 4tb which one is the best over all money can buy?
Firecuda for sure
Can someone explain why the silicon was darker than the ps5?
Great video. Can you take the heat shield off so I can fit it in my laptop. Thanks
Yes. It's removable.
😂 there's a laptop version with a heatsink as well 😂
is this SSD with the SLC memory? I heard they could last lifetime

Crazy to look back and see the 4tb silicone power ssd launch for a price tag of $800 and as of today (May 29 2023) the same ssd costs $245 on Amazon.
It was out of stock last week, they just got some back in.
I’m seriously considering purchasing one.
Coming from the future, it’s $209
@@jollama
I check the price every day! I got it over the weekend and installed in 5mins!!😆👍🏽
I messed around transferring a few games and the speed is on par with the PS5 internal drive.
Now 2TB cost 80 and 1TB 50. The laptop version is cheaper in 10 bucks
It’s 199 now
What size ssd is enough? Is 1tb going to be enough ?
4tb for long investment
I just ordered the 4tb version from Amazon for $475
How long have you had yours and is it still going strong?
Is yours still working?
I would also like to know
damn 479? at the time of this writing a 4TB is 379 on Amazon (Newegg too)
@@bcutMake that $319.99
@@jollamaoh wow! good time to jump on it
1 ;) Mines is working great :)
Just purchased the 2TB model from Amazon for $173AUD (114usd). Too cheap to pass up, hopefully I don't regret it down the line
Any problems?
@@wyattpack6946 hasn't arrived yet, I actually ended up ordering the sn850x instead and cancelling the sx70. But I'm pretty sure it would have been just fine.
@@wyattpack6946 in case it matters to you, the sx70 might not be using the phision controller, like some of the earlier stock was. Silicon power have started using other controllers while keeping the product SKU the same
Has there been any issues with yours lately ?
@@PopPunkNerd I didn't buy it, I cancelled my order after reading they had started using a different controller
How long it last ?😅
as long as you want it to.
Bought this
It has heatsink?
Yes
Is their any quality ones cheaper then this. If anyone knows of some let me know
Tbh..not really. Maybe the Verbatim V7000i?
@@nascompares ok thanks I’ll prob just try this one in 4tb
Nextorage,Fanxiang are n Corsair is 5$more. I'm looking also. I think I'm going with the nextorage cause it's made by Sony pretty much.
@@dmo848 I finally just got a Samsung cause Best Buy had one
Speed is more than firecuda
I just order the m.2 ssd 4tb 😅 hope it doesn't fail me 🤧
Is it still working?
I would also like to know if it's still working well
For me yes 3/4 storage full
@@Born2Legit yes
@@justinmabb1997 yes
As of today it was $400 and now it's $380 for 4tb on amazon
Now its $232
Now it's $196 - $209
@@sterlonb.digital777 yeah I bought it for $199 like in July 🙌
2TB is now £99.99. I believe it is really bargain.
just bought a 4tb for €241,99, taxes included
Great review but tooooo long. You could easily summarize what the benefits are for this SSD within 4 minutes. Also maybe split the video into three different segments. The work ethic is perfect but maybe work on your efficient delivery
got this yesterday for ps5, read speed 5931. Formatted twice. 4TB buyer beware
Why beware? Did this PS5 read it?
