  • A very classy, highly original and perhaps somewhat pretentious album, "Adventures In Modern Recording" by Buggles still sounds wonderful today. No wonder with people like Trevor Horn, Gary Langan, Julian Mendelsohn and Geoff Downes on board. And I thought this was just such a striking single, it has a wonderful atmosphere and great drum machine programming :)

      @@leonstraatman1857 hoi Leon, bedankt voor jouw reactie. The 80's, dat waren tijden met AFOS, New Musik, The Buggles, Prefab Sprout, enz. Sinds begin 80 ben ik verzot, echt verslaafd geworden aan electronische muziek en Pink Floyd, dus oa JMJarre, Vangelis, Kitaro, Tomita, Kraftwerk, Klaus Schulze en uiteraard Tangerine Dream. Tot op heden ben ik verslingerd aan deze muziek. Ik ben onlangs 56 jaar geworden en eerlijk gezegd, het word erger en erger. In 2019 heb ik TD gezien in Zoetermeer en ik hoop in juni dit jaar, ze terug te zien in Amsterdam. Ook de Canadese rockgroep Rush is 1 van mijn favorieten. Groetjes Dirk.

    As a rock and roll listener in my youth and to this day, this album is still one of my favorites. So innovative, creative and beautiful all at once.

    I bumped into a colleague of mine recently who had a new dog called Lenny. When I started singing 'LENNY!', I had to explain it was a Buggles song from 1982. She only remembered 'Video killed the Radio Star', had never heard of 'Lenny'!

    This is craftsmanship in producing
    Nobody values the brilliance of a fantastic sound anymore.
    Adventures in modern recording stand’s to me as the pinnacle of perfection when it comes to grand and perfect sound
    “Lenny” is fantastic
    But never figured out why its called "Lenny"...?!

      Not. Trevor barely hits that high note and sounds constricted doing it; Jon would have had no trouble hitting it at all.

    Someone on another upload of this has pointed out that it's about Leonardo Da Vinci. I wouldn't have thought of that myself!

      Well, that's the weird thing -- It would make sense for the name "Lenny" to be used to refer to Leonardo Da Vinci, but the events described in the song sound more like things that happened to Copernicus.

      First a philosopher “Aristarchus” then a “astronomer “Galileo”..but “he was walking on glass”.... the Catholic Church arrested him for claiming that the earth orbit the sun.. could have cost him his life.

    They really don't make this anymore, if you have a copy your lucky. The closet cd you can get for this would be Yes Drama that has Trevor and Gregory playing on it and they even do 'Into The Lens's that is I Am A Camera on Adventures in Modern Recording. Age of Plastic is still available.

    It is a tad slower than the other version on UA-cam. I don't have a knob for adjusting the speed so if it is too slow, my turntable is not working properly. As I don't have the cd version, I can't compare.

    Right, I've done some research and it seems the correct version is 3:12, and this is 3:20, and mine was 3:07! Oh bother.
