    That looks like beautiful digging soil, but I can't imagine what it would have taken to get through the likely mat of roots to reach it. Based on the location, is there any chance that people were actually digging for the dirt? There's a funny little sub-culture in the gardening community that likes to collect soil from particular "healthy areas" to propagate certain bacterial and fungal balances into backyard gardens in pursuit of thriving plants of particular types. Not sure how deep their holes are (trying to avoid carrying weeds, but still keep the microbiota), but the diggers might not be after rocks after all.

    I thought you might be asking me what I am looking for, I have a list. Put some of the host rock under UV light before you give up. My fear of rockhounders not filling back in the holes has nothing to do with the forest. Its more about enviromentlists seeing it and using it for a way to shut down what I love to do. All you have to do is see what the gold miners are going thru right now and once they shut them down, guess who is going to be next. Just in my lifetime I have seen many areas that I used to collect in have no access now.

    So, i know some people who will take their unwanted material, and even some people who do it maliciously, and spread them in areas where they dont come from. Its essentially harmless, BUT, that might be the kinda thing you have here. Somebody leaves behind something that wasnt there naturally, others did to find more. OR, like you said, once person digs a test hole, then others follow, heck i have done that several times!
    Im down here in Western Nevada, and started Rock hounding back in April. I struck the Rock hounders in July, and found a vein of LARGE (3-12" crystals, and plates 10-20") of the Purple stuff. And, it was untouched, in a remote, easy access area, so we got a claim on it! Lol, imagine that, starting this hobby, then having a claim of amethyst in just 4 months time. If your ever down by Reno, hit me up, ill take you there. I would love to get an experienced person to give it a look over. We have a pegmatite swarm, in low sage brush hills.

    Another interesting video, Jared, good of you to undertake a bit of a cleanup, if everyone did a little bit that would be great instead of leaving holes everywhere, not a good look for the hobby. It is usually a lot easier to fill in a hole rather than dig it. I agree, it sure seems like this area has too big of holes and too many to just be poking around and testing. However in all my digging which there was a lot of off camera I didn't even the smallest of chip of anything. Clearly most of the holes went deep. Then spread out like when people bottle dump dig. They are looking for that layer that has all the glass. This looks no different. It appears you need to get under the overburden and then go sideways. The Houser geode beds in California are like that. I got into a hole already started and dug into the wall farther. I pulled out two geode conglomerates. One was the size of a grapefruit, the other the size of a good sized watermelon. The tailings though containing small broken geode remnants were pretty much not worth looking through. The very end when you gave up you were filming s hole with shovel marks. You need to dig into those walls to find what, obviously, quite a few people were digging for.
    Another note. You really pushed the bunk theory and watching the remainder of the video I thought of one more evidence. Some of those holes were long. Like they were following a seam. The fact that the holes are not just deep, but long, I say they were finding something.

    • @CurrentlyRockhounding
      @CurrentlyRockhounding  2 роки тому

      Off camera I spent some serious time digging and opening up a hole, screening it as well and came up empty handed.
