I just noticed that Shaughn is in the video. Great guy and super nice. While we’ve never made it to this area with our club field trips, we are planning to go hopefully next month before it gets too hot. So excited!!! The grand finale of an Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Nevada loop.
Yes, Shaughn is a good friend.
This was such an amazing trip and I still cant get over how much agate is there; With the abundance & variety of material and great company, I was in heaven.
You captured the area well and I look forward to seeing what creations emerge from your treasures.
Here's to the next great adventure!
Oh yeah man it was a good trip. The slab saw has been running alot lately
Oh !!! That holy piece !
I'm thinking anything that you're standing on is worth slicing!!!!!! Hehehe! Great Video!!!!!
Pretty much.
Love the talent club! Lived there in college.
:)
The desert is full of Rockhound Treasures! Great video!!
It's endless.
Hey, Sara's mic'd up! I like it - it was tough to hear her in some previous vids. Looks like you had a good time!
Yeah that was a problem, its always a challenge to catch audio outside.
Now you're walking my paradise!! I admire your restraint... when I was near there I limited myself to two big cat litter buckets just because that's all I had with me! The abundance is just jaw dropping. The stars at night too, it's beyond anything!
Yeah you really need to know when enough is enough.
@@CurrentlyRockhounding I'm lucky to live in an apartment which refuses to expand. If I weren't blessed with this limitation I'd be buried in rocks by now!
@@biscuitEMT I'm trying to not let that happen, I have plans on giving away a ton of rock.

Accurate!
That first piece of seam agate looked like a chunk of beef...right next to those calves! Couldn't help but make a comparison! 😁🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦
Thanks for sharing your rockin adventures with us! 🥰
The pleasure is all mine!
Not far from blue mountain. Great stuff.
McDermott is an extinct Caldera @16.1MA that was where Yellowstone is now, but moved @400 miles SE to where it is now. The Yellowstone Mantle Plume isn’t moving, North America is moving over it, like a BK burger moving through a char broiler.
I went there early last August, and it really does feel like infinite agates out there. So much to see, so many places to hunt, and only so much space in your car.
Bring that seam agate by my place and we’ll get that cut for ya!
The big one is really big like I might need to knock the sides off to fit it in the saw at my club but even still it might be too big.
That was fun. Pull over, stop, pick up rocks, drive away. Repeat. A great place to fing beautiful rocks. I can't wait to find out what that rock was sandwiched with rhyolite. It makes it better hunting with family, friends and furry friends. Have fun, be safe and stay healthy. 😷⚒
I spent a few days there about 4 years ago. Love that area.
It's quite the impressive location.
Incredible views ! So much cool stuff, strewn everywhere !
Yeah it's really an impressive location.
We all need to enjoy this area while we can. There is a huge controversy in that area regarding massive commercial lithium mining that would completely destroy the scenery, drain what bit of groundwater there is and create pollution and semi truck traffic and noise in the area. The native tribes are protesting as are local farmers and nature lovers (including rockhounds). We need to push companies to find ways to mine minerals in a more eco friendly manner. Wow those are huge rocks!!!
Yeah, we rockhound near there and ranchers are not happy. Overallocation of water is big thing.
Agates are so varied.
Nice place. Can't wait to see the cuts.
That is a lot of Agate Dam!!😊😊
It was a fun trip for sure!
I love the question, "Why rock hounding?" My answer, "why not?" So many people are disconnected from our beautiful planet, but when rockhounding you can't ignore the beauty and the gifts of the planet. What wondrous magic the earth produces. The way the elements are displayed and shaped into minerals, wow, just breathtaking.
I love your answer here.
Geological history is what I'd really like to hear something about a lake that was covered by a volcano Maybe?
Wow! What an amazing place! Thanks for sharing your adventure and beautiful finds!✌😎
Oh it's a great area.
Wow interesting Area and so much beautiful Material, Great👍 Thanks for showing
The place really has lots to offer.
How'd I miss this video until now? Doh~ hahaha That truly was a fun time out there and my only regret was not having more time to spend down there searching other spots~ Hopefully we get another chance there before the apocalypse! 😲🤔😂
Pretty cool that you meet up with fellow UA-camrs in such a place, very nice. Lots of super great rocks out there. Thanks for sharing the adventure.
Thanks for watching Doug, I think its really fun to be able to meetup with people like that and get to know them.
What I expect is after a lot of these agates were formed we had a few ice ages
glaciers even
Love the beginning. Grate stuff. So cool
Thanks man!
The McDermett Caldera is a great place to go. Was there last September. Can’t wait to get back there. Great video Jared!
I would love to go there when it was a little cooler out.
Jared and Sarah, your producing here is making such awesome progress. Y'all have always been good but you both are doing such great work here. Wow, that place is like a dream. Wish I had a vehicle that could access. Thanks for the virtual trip! I've gotta get to Oregon if anyone can meet me with a 4x4. Lol.
Thank you! I'm trying to really capture these place in video. Maybe its time for a new rig.
Not dead cat… fuzzy sock!
Very nice video!!
I love that agatized log
It was impressive to see.
Interesting area!
Glad to see Andrew made it out! There's a good reason why there is so much awesome material there because that's all that is there, literally. Probably my least favorite region in the US, haha.
Awe shucks mister, thanks and I hope to adventure with you soon. Mining sunstones in the high desert is a Magical experience during a full moon and something I recommend to everyone.
Chat w/ ya soon buddy ^^
@@TheRogueRockhound that sounds pretty cool
Oh man I'm all about that desert lifestyle. I look out over the expansive landscape and see possibilities.
Someone please let me know when you are all headed out there again. I don't have my own UA-cam channel, or 4x4 (😂).. but I do love wandering the desert for rocks. Ill bring the pub beer!
@@mattrichards1492 what state are you in buddy?
Awesome video Love the huge Agate she is a big ole girl will be cool to see a slab cut off her maybe. Love the videos man keep bein awesome!!
Nice find Sarah, might need to check this place out someday , awesome agates, I really enjoy the Oregon coast found a black agate which is pretty cool , wow awesome finds, seam agate wow 🤩, oh cool I found green and brown jasper at the coast awesome finds💙😊, awesome love your adventures thank you 😊 for sharing 😊💙✌🏻
Yeah its an impressive place to visit.
When you are in that area, check out the petrified wood piled up around the cattle guards. They're clean from sitting off the dirt for years and you can see some amazing wood grain patterns. Don't take any of them, of course, as they were put there for a reason, but it will give you an idea of what's out there all around you!
Thanks for the tip!
Will you do a piece of content on Amazon Prime Day? It is in 6 days I think and there might be great rockhounding equipment on sale. I just thought I would ask. Thank you so much for all your efforts in these videos, I love to watch them.
If there is I will post some links on my community tab.
Awesome
That was some nice jasper in that area. I need to get out more. I watch these videos and I just want to get out there and hunt rocks, but I am dealing with some repercussions for a previous job I had health wise. I normally have to buy my rocks and hope for a good deal.
There's nothing wrong with buying rocks. I hope you cans start getting out sometime soon.
I loved this so much! I love the material, your fellow Rock hounds because I watched them both, and you're exploring my state. I live between Medford and Jacksonville so I really enjoy Andrew as a fellow rogue valley person. I also subscribe to Shawn. I can't wait to see what you do with your beautiful material. And something I was wondering, would your dog run away if she wasn't on a leash? I know mine sure would.
She loves chasing things and we worry that if she was off leash she will see a deer and just chase it forever.
@@CurrentlyRockhounding my dog doesn't even come with me because he won't come when called he goes the other way. At home I just have to leave the door open until he decides to come back.
Whoa! I'm jealous. Nothing like that here. I think choosing what to keep would be difficult.
Yeah you can't take it all so you just gotta do your best picking out something nice.
@@CurrentlyRockhounding I agree. You gotta be a picky picker sometimes. But as long as you're pickin', things are good 😄
Great video as always! But I must say, the audio your using is good. I could hear Sarah perfectly and she was decently far away.
Yeah the new wireless mics are pretty good, I worry about them a little in places like this with all the blowing dust but other than that the sound is great.
I recognize your Gorilla cart, just put mine together yesterday. Did it perform okay out in the scrub? Mine will be mainly for gardening but it sure looks handy for rockhounding! Thanks for a good look at the area!
Yeah its does great in all conditions however mine is starting to show its age and the plastic has some cracks and I have made some repairs to the tub.
I love that area! I love “the nothing.” I’ve had east-coast friends that are freaked out by it. They say, “What if something happened?!” I say, “Well, help would take awhile.”😀 That part of the USA is very empty and vast. A UFO could get you in broad daylight and no one would see.
I'll take my chances with the UFO's :)
Hey 1000th member of “Rockhounds on the Road” don’t know if you saw the contest but maybe we can trade something 👍🏼 I’ll definitely find something cool to trade. Ok watching now...
As of like 6/11/23 (yesterday when I looked) its all load claims owned by nuclear companies. If those lot arent like the timber people, we should be fine to collect.
I’m going out there in a few weeks, I stopped by about a month ago while passing through only for a few hours didn’t go very far maybe 6 miles in and found a ton. Any tips for when I go back?
The GPS coordinates take you to the town, not the collecting spot.
GPS for this location is the town that you will start the loop, the collection site is pretty much everything and everywhere.
21:00 petrified s'mores?
Is this part 1 of a 2 parter?

Don't tempt me with the deuce and a half idea... I know people who own 'em. And off-road school buses, too.
I wanna know the people you know.
I know if I ask you, you will know... are there any like places where if I were to fly, say to Arizona, or Montana, planes like that, they have like tours where I could go with several other ppl and not be alone hounding the places I want to see without having to rent a vehicle and all that stuff...? So many places I want to visit
I really do not know of anyone giving guided tours like that.
Aren't there snakes out there? Has your dog been trained to stay away from them?
It was still somewhat cold when we went so we didn't see any but I'm sure they live out there. We keep our dog on a leash.
this place looks insanely desolate, gotta love the high desert! Just a few rockhounds and a few million pounds of agate lol. But honestly is it quantity over quality? It kinda looks that way to me, but I wasnt there, so you tell me. Still really impressive just in sheer quantity!
So I kinda agree with you here about the quantity over quality, let me explain, I certainly picked up and brought home some agate that is pretty meh... but I also got some really good one, I think part of the problem with a place like this is that it's so big, there such a lack of information on the location that its hard to know what is really good and that's a big part of this project here and the video, someone like yourself can my mistakes and wins and build off of them.
@@CurrentlyRockhounding when I pick up a stone, and if it doesnt speak to me, I leave it nowdays. I try and look it over with a mindset of "do I really need this?" If it looks like a big white 20 pound chunk of fractured chalcedony, I know its going to look even more BLAH when I take it home and look at it lol. We can all learn someting from our instincts, and not act on impulsive "I NEED THIS" type of thinking. I know your pretty good about leaving the junk and taking the quality only.
It is very desolate. Not far from here is the blue mountain jasper mine. Some of the best quality agate and jasper in America. I have a collection of it.
@@jtheprospector.1458 cool! I love rock hounding in the desert. Lots of rocks and nothing else!
@@mitchgillilan I live in the foothills of Virginia City NV . Always finding something cool.
