Ice cream buckets with the lids also make great ways to transport your finds. I also like bringing a spray bottle with. Especially if in an area such as a farm field or gravel road wear water isn't readily available. I do agree that snacks, water, some type of fire starting kit and a knife or other tool to bring with. It's also not a bad idea like you mentioned to have a way to charge your phone just in case, and a small first aid kit. At the end of the day this is all optional and up to the person if they feel it's necessary.

So glad you mentioned protection. Not something I would normally think of . Excellent video as usual.

A clotting sponge is an excellent idea. Probably something like medical tape or wrapping gauze would be smart as well, to hold the sponge in place when your walking

Bear spray is actually weaker than the pepper spray that is used to protect you from people. This is due to the extremely sensitive olfactory senses in a bears nose and the fact that they have more pain receptors in their nasal passages than we do. Given the choice of bear spray or regular capsaicin I'd go with the regular pepper spray for bear or human application. Just be sure to get one that is capable of spraying a good distance and really atomizes to create a good size cloud of defense.

We get a ton of petrified wood where I’m at that is covered in a crusty white patina. Some of it is extremely silicated and tumbles a bright translucent yellow orange almost looks like amber, but without my flashlight to backlight it, I’d be bringing home a ton of duds.

Absolutely! It’s also definitely needed for agates! I’m so bummed I forgot it on my list!

What do you bring to keep your kids from being crap heads about your boring hobbies and whining to go home? JK, JK. This is a nice list of things, especially the rock specific bag so you don't necessarily have to bring all of the sand in the land home with you.

Haha I try to get them interested in the rocks themselves!
