Visiting the Dugway Geode Beds // Rockhounding Utah
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 жов 2021
- Our visit to the Dugway Geode Beds was really enjoyable, and we found some excellent thundereggs.
The one thing I would change about our visit would be the amount of time set aside for it, it's really a location you need a few days at to really grasp it.

Do I need a Vehicle with high ground clearance to get here?
Aren’t we so lucky to live a part of the world where there are so many wonderful treasurers. I cannot due this type of rock hounding due to health, but every week I get to hunt with you and Sarah. Thank you.
I live in Canada rip
@@keberharkeberhar9067 depending where in Canada it can be pretty darn good! British Columbia Canada for example is famous for nephrite Jade. But I'm sure everywhere there has something!
the must precious find was the girl , God bless u two
Headed back next week. I’ve found some great spots and eggs over the past month. Saw this video and learned more than past 10 combined. 🤙🤙
I did not realize how close I live to Dugway. Next spring, I know where we’re going! Thanks for your channel!
Do it!
Who doesn't need another cool rock?!! Count me in for your draw please
Hey Brother,I had watched this video earlier while I was moving Wind Blades from Vancouver to Montana, and this week when the job ended and while headed back to Texas I routed myself to the Dugway Geode site. After the long drive (62 miles) down the dirt road to get there, I spent the next five hours digging a hole on the East side of the pit you were in at the beginning of the video. The deeper I went the better, as I ended up with maybe 10 whole that are over 6-9 inches in diameter as well as too many to count that are smaller but whole. BIG THANKS for all of your videos that showcase what we can find in so many locations!!
I'm glad you made it out there and had some good finds!
I think your channel is getting more popular. The ad count is higher. Well deserved.
Well that's good to know! I know that ads can be annoying at times but it really does help the channel out.
Nice thunder eggs. Hoping to get there some day. Thanks for sharing.
Was stationed at dugway back in 1980. Collected several hundred pounds over 3 yrs. don’t a one left. Including the cut one.
Thank you for another vicarious rock hunt. I will probably never have a chance to hunt for them by myself so I enjoy seeing what you find. Geodes are amazing!
Love riding along with you. The geodes are nice, that colored 1 is great. Fortification, druzy, chalcedon, crystals.....wow! Definitely a truck trip.
It's a great place.
Dugway is on my list of places to visit for sure.
Its a really nice location to visit.
Wow!! New bucket list destination!!
Thanks for sharing
Well worth the visit.
I love the views,so beautiful !
I live in America subsequent Saturday night. I love your channel, I love your explanations of everything. Your travels r exciting. Thanks for hours of entertainment.
Thank you for coming to watch! :)
I always love colored geodes, even if it’s just a hint. We tend to only have regular quartz ones in our area.
Ok man, here's what i'm thinking: We get you a motorcycle helmet with a cam on it and microphone inside so when its super windy you can pretend that your a spaceman on a different planet and you dont have to worry about the wind lol!
Great vid though buddy.
Hi there 😀 I hunt for Geodes in the Warsaw formation, it's in Iowa and Illinois . Between Burlington and Keokuk IOWA AND Nauvoo, Illinois and Hamilton/Warsaw IL. My sister and I find solid stuff and even more with awesome crystals quartz and chalcedony, and fossils!
I forgot to tell you how awesome you are!!!
Ha, why are you trying to make me look even more weird?
@@CurrentlyRockhounding Weird is different and different stands out...Ive got a method to my madness ^^
@@CurrentlyRockhounding it looks like you replied to my comment, not quite sure... But if it was me ???
Thank you for sharing!!! Watching is my way of being able to go rock hunting ❣️
Thank you for coming to watch!
Mate love your channel , very educational. For someone that looks at 180 foot deep walls of stone a mile long every working day , you give me details and explanations that others don't give. Love the idea of testing the radiation levels and that you don't just chase the preties and you grab the interesting sometimes. Every rock holds a piece of history .
Thank you so much! Also what is this wall you look at all day?
I think they can all be really pretty!
That wind is wicked, isn't it? Very cool geodes.
It really can be a challenge at times when filming.
Wow wish I would have know this back when I went there when I was in the Army. Thanks for the video:)
Were you stationed at Dugway?
No I was on TDY there, temporary duty for Army Nuclear Biological Chemical testing. Testing new chemical decon equipment.
@@CurrentlyRockhounding but had alot of free time, could have been looking for rocks:)
I love the way those look so pretty thank you
Dugway does too exist. They even have a holiday Inn.
We were just there on the 29th of Sept., we were the only ones there and there were so many cool rocks everywhere. 2 buckets full. We also stopped at Topaz mountain same day, on our way back to Nevada
It really is a killer location. We didn't make it to Topaz Mountain, but maybe we will next year. How did you do there?
@@CurrentlyRockhounding I loved your video road trip portion, we must of crossed paths. We started at Topaz first, didn’t do the pay to dig, so didn’t find much on our own. Still a nice hike up the mountain, found a very small topaz and small amethyst crystals. Very hard rock to dig in! Anyways your video brought back my day trip through there. We took the same road pass that pony express building and then a very obscure road straight north to Dugway, til we ran into a fence lol 😂 finally found a paved road and made it back to the 80…. Definitely out in the middle of nowhere. Quite the day, but loved the adventure. Sorry for the long reply 🤪
looks like great fun there nice material
Wow that was a fun and Awsome video. Thank you for sharing...
Live in America. Love your channel
I’m excited to watch I want to learn what they look like whole so I know what to look for.
Be sure to note which types you want to find. As he mentioned site 2 in all the books has lots of whole small geodes but the other location has some very large pieces and you can dig into the exposed clay layers to get some nice ones at either site. I had done both surface hunting and digging about 8 years ago and got my best at site 2 digging a hole.
Agreed, I do think its a location you need more than one day at if you really want to enjoy it.
Thanks.for the info channel I love it I'll be going there on vacation next year
Heck yeah! You will love it!
Thanks again for sharing for those that can't make it out west to those cool places. Nice specimens
Absolutely Beautiful spot!
I'm slowly catching up on the Utah adventures. 🤠
Its a great state to visit.
@@CurrentlyRockhounding I drive through it often in a big truck which is not fun due to the traffic there. I'd love to spend time there instead with visiting and exploring around. Surprised that I haven't crashed yet looking at the geology and roadcuts while driving along! 😄
Super stoked on all you do! looking forward to getting there myself thanks for sharing!!!
Oh its a very worth it location to visit.
Wow! Such awesome landscape! The mountains in the background and all the wonderful rocks! I love your videos
Thank you!
Cool place to visit. Good luck in all your travels!
Thank you!
It looks like you had a blast. Thank you for sharing.
Oh yeah! It's a really good location and next time we do plan on spending more time in the area.
Thank you so much for this video! Been wanting to go, just not in the hot summer. Will be planning a day trip or two out to Dugway soon. I really appreciate all the great info. Beautiful material. Thanks again Jared and Sara.
It's 100% worth the visit.
great video. Utah is a must do.
The middle of nowhere is my favorite place to be. Always the best place to find the best rocks. I have traveled so many gravel roads and back country roads in the last year that my mechanic gave me heck for not checking my air filter. It was so packed with dust and dead bugs it had to be replaced. Oops!😁 My poor van. I didn't think it was that bad.
Hahaha yeah that's something you gotta stay on top of when you do this kind of driving.
Really cool finds, Jared! Thanks for sharing!
I'm glad you like it.
So. Very cool. I’m making a list of sites from your awesome videos. Thanks!
You can also find them all up on the website!
Enjoying your content, as its making my Rockhounding bucket list longer!!
That's nice to hear! :)
Awesome comprehensive video, and such gorgeous land. I had no idea Utah was that amazing!
Oh my gosh, Utah is a killer state to go rockhounding in.
What a great find!! Looks like a great trip! Thank you for sharing and love your videos they are very well done and learning so much!
It's a great location.
Well Jared, almost every time I watch one of your adventure videos my list grows. Thank you for taking us along to see these awesome areas! Beautiful materials from this one for sure! The one Sarah found with blue is amazing, and the little one you showed at the end looks sort of like an ear.😆 Very cool stuff. It's so exciting when you guys do giveaways, even if I don't get picked I'm excited for who does. Very cool that you do this and share your finds too.✌😎
In for a cool rock. You guys have been helping us a lot!
Beautiful vistas and the weather intrigues me! What a cool place to camp and walk and find cool stuff. Thanks for taking us along man!
I'm itching to go back.
I am always waiting in anticipation of your videos. I always find them to be informational and entertaining. Thank you for your efforts.
Thank you, I try to make them enjoyable to watch.
Thanks for sharing the scenery, Pony Express, geodes, all of it. Thanks
I'm glad you liked it!
I really enjoyed this video. Getting your perspective of the place is very helpful and the scenery is beautiful. Looking forward to your next adventure.
I'm glad you liked it.
It is such a blessings to live in the Americas. Such a beautiful camp site.
Agreed!
Learned alot watching your videos thank u for what u do and sharing
Thank you! That feels good to hear.
Very cool finds, the geodes have a really nice variation in structures and colours.
Agreed.
I've learned a lot from your channel. Thanks for the videos!
Thank you!
Exciting! I can’t wait to go there someday…it’s on my Utah list 😁. Thanks for the video!
Oh its 100% worth the visit.
That's nice. I just started watching your channel and have been enjoying you content.
Welcome!
Awesome views! Utah is BEAUTIFUL!!! Some cool rocks too. Gotta love anything that glows under UV 👍🏼
Exactly! Utah is awesome!
Almost went to Dugway the last time we were in Utah. It was just to remote for us to get to. But it's on our bucket list.
Oh its very worth it!
Very Cool Spot.
Another fabulous 🎥
Someday, I would love to visit the Dugway area. The scenery is beautiful also. I can’t believe how much I’ve learned so far from your videos and website. You are a wonderful source of information 🤩🤩. Thank Sara for the great finds! Those were awesome!
Can’t wait to see you break open and polish up some of your finds.
Thanks for the 🎥
Stay Crystal 💫
Thank you! I'm just trying to share what I learn. Always a work in progress. :)
I truly enjoy seeing the other side of the country. The rockhounding is a nice bonus. Interesting place and specimens! Thanks for braving the wind to record👍👍
Wind was the theme of the Utah trip. :)
Magnificent Intermountain Vistas! I really "Dug the Way" you demonstrated and filmed another outstanding Rockhounding Destination. Looking forward to those even bigger Utah agates.
Thank you, I try to do these locations justice.
I went to Dugway 2 months ago when all the roads were washed out from all the rain. That wash you talked about was insane! But we had a 4 wheel drive high clearance vehicle. So We made it. The road going into the pits at Dugway were washed out by 4 feet, ( meaning the road was 4 feet higher than the wash) And so we had to find alternate routes and washes to drive through. But I found my prize, a whole perfectly round 15 inches in diameter geode. Haven’t cut it yet, but soon!
Dang that's a great find!!!
@@CurrentlyRockhounding Thank you, I found it in the road, out of all places. Had my son dig it up because I had a broken foot and couldn’t walk, but it wasn’t going to stop me from getting my geodes!😂
What a great place for Geods and thunder eggs. I love that they plow the ground. They do that in other places around the country and even dynamite in a place or two. Sara did good once again. Stay happy curious, safe and healthy .😷⚒
Sara's the real rockhound, I'm just the camera man.
@@CurrentlyRockhounding 😁🤠😉
This makes me miss Utah so bad. I haven’t been to Dugway for many years and when I was visiting Utah this summer nobody wanted to go out there with me. Now I’m in New York and don’t know when I’ll make it again. I love the UV reactive pieces. Still watching, can’t wait to see what you pull out!
18:55 we have found a few with the jasper in them. I have a bucket still somewhere at my in-laws I think 🤔 need to find them.
Utah is an amazing place. If you go to the website there's UV slide comparison images up which are really nice to see.
Maybe someday you can return out west.
I feel for ya Bro!
@@CurrentlyRockhounding going to check out the site in the morning!
I totally Love this channel ❤. You guys are great! My husband and I used to go out Rock hunting all the time. It was our passion! I see how much you love it too. Great job!
Do you still go out and look for rocks? We do love it! :)
I don't as much as I would like. My husband passed away and my partner, so that is that. But I hope to find a new friend to go with, or friends🙂
It blows my mind how many people take the pony express trail to get to dugway geode beds! If you come in from the Delta side you can find sunstones, topaz, apache tears, garnet, fluorite, amethyst, and beryl. It's 60+ miles less dirt road, gets you there in the same amount of time from salt lake, and you can find lots of cool stuff along the way!
It is an enjoyable route to take once or twice.
@@CurrentlyRockhounding I guess I am looking from a perspective of going out there often. There is some history that way that is fun to see if you're not from around here.
Would love to know where you find the sunstones, apache tears, garnet, and flourite on the way up to Dugway from Delta. I wasn't aware of all those other possibilities.
Another great video and I would LOVE to have something you collected !
Thank you!
You both make these videos so informative, educational and very interesting. You guys have good eyes. You turn even the broken pieces into treasures. Thanks for the local and historical knowledge you share.
Thank you! :)
Thanks so much for this video. I would like to go to Dugway next year.
Do it! I think its a really good location.
Cool place ! Thanks for sharing!!
I'm glad you liked it.
Nice, thanks for the insights. We did a big Utah trip many years ago, but have been thinking about another since getting more serious about rock hounding.
Utah is amazing for rockhounding.
Excellent vid kidz!! THANKS !!!
I'm glad you liked it.
Interesting rock finds, thanks for sharing! 😊
I'm glad you liked it.
Love your passion for everything rockhounding. Wow, Utah is vast and open! Thanks for taking me there and allowing me to see it.
I appreciate it, I really do love this stuff.
That is only a very small portion of Utah you are seeing in the video. The mountains are the most beautiful things here.
@@davidault7118 Thanks, I was hoping to go mountain biking at Moab one day, so I watched a lot of videos for it. I guess I'm just so used to being around civilization that when I see a place like that it seems so otherworldly. I saw a photo the day after CR posted this video of a geode from Dugway that was extraordinary, so it might be worth the trip.
I was digging thunder eggs last month at Little Naches, Dugway is on my list for next spring.
Oh its so a worth it spot.
Nice! A new "pit stop" (ha) for our road trip to Colorado next summer! Love your channel! Thanks for doing what you guys do!
Oh if you plan on passing though Utah I got many more places coming there for you to visit.
@@CurrentlyRockhounding nice! Do you have them listed on your website? I grew up in Colorado so all of those southern states are fairly familiar to me...if only I had been a rockhound back then! 😂 Time to revisit a lot of places
@@sarahskillen8421They will be listed when the video goes up.
You've found some very interesting and very cool specimens out there for sure
It's a nice locations.
Great video y'all have some wild rocks out there.
I'm still working on the ones I'm going to send you it's kind of hard picking out ones you might enjoy it so many more cool looking rocks out there then it is here. ( That may just because I have seen these all of my life )
Some of the things I have read says we have some of the oldest rocks here I will definitely try to get you some of them.
Keep up the great work y'all do an awesome job on these videos!
Utah is pretty wild and Wooley! My Friend is an Assistant Fire Chief at Dugway proving grounds :)
Oh man, that sounds like a lovely place to be stationed.
It's actually a little scary lots of testing stuff going on there can't really say what all kinds but it's a place you really need to be well informed on Hazmat stuff.
Cool stuff! I would love to visit Utah some day.
Utah is awesome for sure.
Add a comment you say! I sometimes with I can tag a long for some of your rock hounding trips! The geode are so pretty
Interesting never been to Utah, very cool finds, awesome a giveaway , beautiful scenery, thank you for sharing,😊💙
Utah is amazing and I have much more cool Utah videos to come.
Aside from being in the middle of nowhere and the weather, sweet geodes!
Oh yeah!!!
Thanks for all the videos! Headed to Washington this weekend from Iowa. Only have a short time to rockhound. Visiting family north of Seattle.
There's some good locations out there from what I have seen and heard from others.
Some great colors and interesting pieces! Might have to add this as a destination 🙂
I would highly suggest it.
🎉 to Torrey. I need to go there.
Looks like a fun spot to visit. I’ll have to add that to my list of places to explore.
It's a really good location to visit.
Ahhhh… my hometown!! lol.. kinda. I lived in Tooele for 22 years. This is my old stomping grounds. We went here so many times. We used to be able to just walk around and pick up pretty large full geodes. Not so much anymore. But now living in Tri Cities, I miss being able to just walk around and surface shop for this stuff!
Great video!
That area really calls to me, its a place I could see myself living. I see there's cheap house for sale in Delta Utah!
@@CurrentlyRockhounding it really is a great area to live in. I love it in Utah. And Delta is in a great spot for lots of rock hounding!!
Beautiful surface finds! I need to get to Utah!
Utah is amazing.
That is some really beautiful material I live in Tennessee and we have slot of geodes, but those are awesome!!!
Thank you!
Cool giveaway rock!! Looks like alot of fun at that place
It's a lovely location.
Funny this popped up , I just bought a full dugway geode Sunday at a gem show lol . .
Nice! They cut really well.
You need to check out the obsidian fields outside of Delta, and some of the old tailings piles around Mammoth, Utah.
We did hit a lot more spots in Utah, I really want to go back next summer.
@@CurrentlyRockhounding I can't blame you.
I would love a geode. Looks like a super fun trip.
It was great.
Those are some awesome geodes that you were surface picking, thank you BLM. I really like the pieces with the agate in them also the ones with the crystals. Keep up the great videos and God bless you and your family.
It's a really interesting location, and I love the diversity of material that can be found here.
I see a trip on the horizon. That is some gorgeous stuff. That Lavender color is unique in my opinion.
Oh its very pretty stuff.
Great video! I hope you get a chance to go back and dig again, because believe me when I say: you've only just scratched the surface of Dugway! My wife and I live in Utah, and have been there twice. From our experience, the truly good stuff is in that pink clay layer. You can get some gorgeous whole geodes with very sparkly quartz inside...but you have to dig. You won't usually find those high quality specimens on the surface. It can be a lot of work, but totally worth it!
Oh we plan on going back in the future. :)
Ooohhh like that giveaway rock!
