I've been watching your videos on building this 371. I have had my 371xp for 25 years now and I am doing a similar build using your helpful information to build mine. Thank you.
I genuinely do take advice of a man with faded overalls cause he has done it.. I'm still running a old L 77 , 272, a 365,and 2 372 's. 372's have nothing more than opening up of the transfers. Muffler mod. No timing change. Good to see you up and running again,
Reason the cases break when running a long bar. On the early Husky 371's is they did not have enough strength were the bar studs are they were designed to run 24 in bars . I remember Donny walker talking about this. The 372 cases had strength ribs to help prevent this.
Glad to see you back today! I’m firing up a freshly ported ms261 very soon myself. Cut the liner sides right off of it At the transfers, should be ripe. The history lesson on the early 371 chassis is very important glad you shared this build.
Harvey I been a stihl guy all my life until watching you and Tinman build those nasty 372s and I got curious and built me one of your famous 372s with the 272 piston and boy I fell in love with them huskies.
Your knowledge on different brands of chainsaws is amazing. I really like your videos because of all your explaining on what you are doing. You also point out problems or possible problems while repairing. I always look forward to the next video. I hope you are having a great day!
Harvey if you don’t have one already I would really recommend getting a m5x0.8 timesert kit. A bit pricey but does such a nice job repairing stripped bolt holes on huskys. Don’t have to worry about them unscrewing like a helicoil on bolts you undo a lot like top covers and starter covers.
@ Get some different length inserts too, you want the insert slightly shorter than the hole depth so it can flare out at the bottom and bite in, they work awesome!
I have an old 266 I found in a dumpster other than rotten lines it runs top end looks great anyway My question is when did they swap out the metal handles/fuel tank just wondering how old it might be
Just so happen to be working on a 044 atm 😃 your video is on . Happy Halloween 👻 motoseal been using it for many years on mx bike case's. You only need a thin coat 🔧🔧
I’ve got an old 2008/09 372xp xTorq that I can’t get to rev higher than 8500/9k! No matter how I tune it. Runs good, cranks easy 2-3 pulls, and cuts perfect but it just won’t turn up like the others I have. What am I missing?
IRONHORSE, God Bless and Protect you and your loving family:) Bless you IRONHORSE for sharing your life and years of life's wisdom with us:) Everyone of your educational videos, has technical gems in them, Bless you for that:)
IRONHORSE, I must share a true story with you concerning my daughter Alanna, when she is tired in the morning, well I say to her, get up, get excited and embraces "The Suck", they are words of wisdom from my hero IRONHORSE:) After a few times of that IRONHORSE, she has excess energy for the whole day:) Bless you for the education you have given me and others worldwide:)🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💖💖💖💖💖💖💖👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
You say those muffler mods don’t do much for power.. It seems like ‘most’ saws don’t get much noticeable power on the dyno unless you have an expansion chamber.. What I have noticed, even with a modded muffler like you have there, you get way better throttle response, even if you’re not building more power. Have you made the same observation?
Hard to find good 371 cases around here..probably impossible..we beat stuff to death back in the day..we will get together play with some saws here soon..I'm feeling better every day so I'll b working again soon💪💪
Hey harv I got a question about you talking about a significantly lighter flywheel...I understand that a lighter flywheel means less weight on the rotating assembly, which equates to a faster revving saw, but would that affect the torque at all? I'm just curious because for some reason I feel like I've heard that a heavier flywheel keeps the engine spinning easier under load? Or is that only with big engines, where a chainsaw is so small it wouldn't affect the torque? Just curious for my own knowledge :) glad to see you back and healthy big dog!!!!
The hole you are calling for a chain adjuster isn't tin man had the same problems it's a breather hole for the oil tank when that hole gets jammed up with saw dust and oil it suffocates the breather causes a vacuum and stops the oil from oiling the bar would have thought you would have all worked that out by now. Be well Harvey

Digging through your parts to restore one of those old saws, reminds me of Johnny Cash looking for his "cleanest dirty shirt" 😉😉

Love to watch the master at work, I lern just as much by listening to the stories.😊
I’d love to try this saw in a few trees, another great learning clip, Many cheers from NZ.
The fine details are your trademark and I am sure Buckin is anxious to get his hands on this saw. Nice work my friend. 👍♥️
He is, it’s going to be a fun build!

That is correct.

This is for all the stihl guys! Shhh! Don’t tell anybody!

Appreciate the follow-up vid! Ordered my fuel lines today, hoping my 372 has the same pinhole issue as this one so it's an easy fix

Thanks, you too!
Absolutely loving the content
Thanks Harvey , just like old times . Cant wait till the next video.
You are right, nice cup of coffee and a chat. Looks like thats going to be a ripper. Really should be a gem in the hands of the man.
It should be, I'm excited to get it running!

I’m going to take your advice! I had to look it up to see what it was! I like the way it works! Thank you Riley!

@theironhorse6600 allways👍
My favorite have 98 model great running saw
They sure are nice saws!
I have an old 266 I found in a dumpster other than rotten lines it runs top end looks great anyway

Always nice hearing from you!
Good, good, and good.
Aussie pipes beaudy mate.
I believe the late production 371 and all 372 had a stronger case, especially around the bar studs with full gusseting inside the oil tank.
You are exactly right!
I’ve got an old 2008/09 372xp xTorq that I can’t get to rev higher than 8500/9k! No matter how I tune it. Runs good, cranks easy 2-3 pulls, and cuts perfect but it just won’t turn up like the others I have. What am I missing?
TFS is THE BEST cleaner. Simple green eat your heart out
What is Tfs?
Broken case by the bar stud is from running long bar on 371. The early ones had issues.
Sure did!

Those Canadian saw bar studs must be rotting out from running maple syrup as bar oil. Just imagine what it does to your gut with pancakes! 🤣

That's awesome to hear about you getting better!
You should have ear defenders on when running that.
What?
🗽🇺🇸🛐👌
How much power do you think it makes?

Excellent comment! I need to cover this in a video! It’s a deep subject!
@theironhorse6600 good to know! Can't wait to see the video :)
Ooooh yeah, sounds mean already, let alone with my pipe on it! 👌
About the time I have this saw done I expect your pipe will be here!
The tank breather is between the bar studs! The hole in the front is for the chain adjuster! How’s that for having it worked out!
Hey iron Horse live from Kentucky your breath looks like it smells like stale Pall Malls and a gas station breakfast burrito burp God bless you sir
