I literally can not get over how good my male rabbit is, he has free roam of the entire house and he never leaves poop or spray anywhere, and only has one litter box in his favorite corner...now if only I could get him to stop thinking he owns my house...lol...just kidding He is the man of the house....he rubs his chin on everything ...I bring in groceries' he comes right in there and chins the bags...if he could bark at the door no one would know this isn't a lil dog...lmfao

Three days after my bunny moved in with me he chose to do his business in my beautiful couch from the 1940s 😅 I gently pushed him down, and he looked at me like I was totally stupid and jumped back up. I knew I had no chance, so the litter box has been there ever since. But it’s worth it ♥️

One addition to your "don't clean every day" sage advice.... when you clean up an errant pee spot (that was done outside the litter box), soak up the bulk of it on a paper towel or natural fiber rag and drop that soaked rag in their litter box. It helps them get the idea. The follow-up cloth that also contains the soap you used for the final cleaning goes in the garbage or laundry as usual.

One thing some people don't get is that their poop is really not that dirty. It's basically compressed, dry balls of hay that have gone all the way through their GI tract and had everything nutritional sucked out of it. If it's not super gross to have bits of hay on the ground, it's also not super gross if their little dry poops are on the ground lol. I keep a hand vac in the general vicinity of where my bunnies are and use it to keep the area relatively clean, but it's never perfect. Even when I get it perfect, they then just ruin it lol so there's no point in trying. It does not smell. Only their urine smells like anything, and even that is not so bad if you are feeding them a good diet and using quality litter that absorbs it really well.
On the other hand, if you're having trouble with urine, that's a bit more problematic than the poop. I have tried a bunch of different products, from plain white vinegar to store bought pet sprays. The best product I've ever found for rabbit urine that will completely get it up, even out of white carpet and quilts/bedding is Biokleen carpet stain and odor remover. That was recommended as a good enzymatic cleaner on the Maker's clean channel, and it's the best I've used to date (I've tried a bunch). The bunnies tend not to go in that spot again after I use it, too. Mine don't really pee outside the litter box any more, but sometimes they can have a bit of urine on their paws still when they hop out, so it comes in handy then :P.

Oh my gosh. I try explaining this to people who don't own a rabbit or any other herbivorous animals, and they want to say that rabbit poop is still disgusting. It's not and they won't ever get that. Maybe I should just find friends with in the rabbit community that can understand rabbit life. I'm so tired of people saying that rabbit poop is disgusting even though I explain to them that it's literally forbidden Cocoa Puffs. It has no smell or anything and the smell they mistake rabbits for having is their pee, but my rabbits are litterboxed trained with their pee anyway, so they dont smell. Sorry about the rant I'm just a really passionate person when it comes to defending my rabbits.

I would like to add: the type of litter can make a difference too. We were fostering a bunny and using the pellets the rescue used. Our bunny was doing everything to eat the hay without stepping in the litter box. He also was choosing to pee on soft bedding. I had a light bulb moment that maybe the pellets were not comfortable under his feet, so I switched to soft absorbent bedding and voila! He is now consistently peeing in the litter box. We also have officially adopted him 😊

Might you be washing the litter box too much? What we do with ours is I spot clean the poo and wet litter daily, but leave the rest of it be, and gradually add instead of replace when the litter itself starts running out. This way our rabbit can still smell herself on the box, but we don't smell anything, and the box only needs full emptying out and washing every few weeks. You could also try saving a couple of your rabbit's poo nugs and putting them in the litter box right after the more thorough washings to remind him that this is still where the poo and pee goes

I noticed both my bunnies had issues later in the evening more than any other time of the day. Both were litter trained. My first bunny didnt get neutered until later and had a tendancy to mark his territory as well as go after stuffed animals. The bunny we have now doesnt mark nor bother with stuffed animals. Getting your bun fixed as early as possible reduces the tendencies bunnys have when they mature. We supplied 2 litter boxes at first but noticed ours only uses one now. Good video for first timers!

@amandaharless2690 I also noticed they tend to get into trouble more later in the evening. I set up a play yard area, or bunny fence in one area in the house and my bun goes in there in the evening. I trained him to go by reward. He loves the Manna Pro pellets in the evening. He has his bed, litter pan and water dish in there. This limits his area and makes it easier on me. The rest of the time, he is 100% free roam. Not at night.

Hi, I just had this problem too when I trained my bunny to come up on my bed for cuddles. She ended up doing a wee on the far corner (which is always where they wee outside in pens, at the far corner). So, I got a waterproof mattress liner (2 actually) and I also have a smaller litter tray under my bed. Now she uses that occaisionally and never wees on the bed. Maybe that could work? It's just a small, Hessian, rectangle shaped basket, i line with plastic bag on bottom and load it up with hay. So if she wants to mark she can, it's in the same corner (but under the bed). Good luck!

My girls used to love to dig out their litter box and kick the powdered pellets out all over the floor!! So I made them a dig box with a different substantiate in it as well as bought some lighting grate from Home Depot to use in the litter box so they are separate from the litter and can’t dig it all out! It has also helped keep the poops in one spot too and we use them for fertilizer in our gardening as well so it makes it easy to pickup as well!!

We use high sided litter boxes; it’s usually poops getting flicked out when they jump out of the box. One bunny has to have a plastic sink liner with holes in her box on top of the woods stove pellets so she doesn’t dig it up. And another bunny uses cardboard litter boxes because he’s naughty and chews plastic. It’s expensive but I don’t make a huge deal out of it. Soon switching him to stainless steel litterbox. We own 2 Shop vac one on the main level for 3 bunnies and the other shop vac in the basement with the other 3 bunnies. Rigid shop vacs from Home Depot with Hepa filters and use the generic bags for it. Litter boxes get changed every 3rd day and litter gets composted. Katrina (12), Gwen (11), Grace (11), Halligan (10), Babs (9) and Niko (6) 😊 our babies.

Our girls were already spayed when we adopted them and we were able to litter train pretty easily. However a year later they decided to also start going literally right in front of our front door where it’s impossible to put a litter box. Had to just accept this so we just put a vinyl floor runner in the entryway and clean/wipe up the mess. It’s a bit inconvenient and gross but we can’t find any other way around it.

I remember for the longest time, my boy would mark on my bed despite having two litter boxes in his normal places that he picked to go. Then like six months ago I switched where I got my hay from. No issue I sourced from a different farm and that was it no more problems.
Also yes I'm aware my boy he has two litter boxes in my room. One is a digging box the other a litter box. So I alternate between cleaning them, clean one one day then the next clean the other. I did try to remove one completely but he went and did his business on the carpet so tried to remove the other and he did that there so I went fine keep both. I am well aware he is a spoiled wee man.

I adopted a 5 yrs old bunny and neutered him when he is 6 (due to some health issue it got drag). Overall he goes to his toilet but I realise that he will tend to pee or leak pee after eating his pellet and when he is at the back of the sofa (his hideout). I tried so many ways for 6 months and gave up. In the end, I add another low tray with plastic mesh on his water bowl and feeding area. I also add peepad with a mesh on top behind the sofa. Don’t worry, the mesh is on the floor so it does not hurt his paws. Previously he keep having sore hocks due his pee. Now he does not have at all! He is ec positive so maybe that or old habit or old age.

Well, I hadn't thought of moving my rabbit's litterbox around her x-pen, but I guess I'm going to try that because that is the only thing left. 🙄😂 It's not that many poops, but it's still obnoxious. 😂 For reference, my rabbit is a 1-year-old Holland Lop named Alora. Thanks for the video!
Sometime would you consider making a video about good ways to set up a rabbits x-pen with cheaper materials? I've got a litterbox, drink/pellet station, a big box and a bed in Alora's 4'x4' x-pen, but I would love your take on some cute set up ideas, DIYs, etc! I'm a teen and can't free roam my rabbit, and also can't spend a ton on expensive huts and stuff, but I still want to make her cage cute, you know? Also, I can't make her pen bigger as there is not any more space in the room. It's to full of pets. 😂 ❤ from Missouri!

Out male rabbit is so kind and mild and we decided to not neuter him eventhough we vaccum everyday. He does go to the literbox but still does it other placed and when he runs. It´s a problem when we like to hug and cuddle him in bed and he does it there so we have to live with changing sheets a lot but he rarely pees other places. He has 3 different liter boxes in our apartment. Our last male bunny was neutered because he was more agressive and he lost so much energy after which is why I didn´t want our current male do be neutered. But they are very different.

It's usually cause they're bored. Give them more things that are acceptable to chew like cardboard boxes, willow chews, untreated pine wood hideys, etc. If the carpet is a lower pile they will be less interested in it. Some things you just need to remove or cover up if you want them to stop.

Help! My two almost 6 year old spayed and neutered sibling Holland Lops, Timothy and Tulip, are using their entire room for a litter box and I don’t know what to do about it.
They were pretty well trained and great about using their boxes except for an occasional slip, but since we moved to a new house 2 1/2 months ago, they’ve both gone completely haywire and are leaving a mess everywhere.
They used to have the run of the house at our other home because it was just one story but we have uncarpeted stairs here with an open stair railing and I’m so afraid they’ll fall down the stairs and injure their spines, so they are mostly confined to their 10x12 foot room here, where they have an open floor level hutch, two litter boxes, tons of toys (which I alternate) several hidey houses, and a couple of cozy beds as well as blankets and little pillows. Their room is right next to 2 guest rooms and we’ve had guests some weekends, so I do vacuume and clean daily to keep the odor down, but I’m at my wits end about how to help them stop the behavior.
Thanks for all you do for all the bunnies out there and their families. ❤️
