  • In this panel, Mark Dever, John MacArthur, Ligon Duncan, and Al Moher discuss the reform that is still needed in the church today. John Calvin once asked, “Everybody agrees that the church requires reform, but how urgent is that need?” At the very core of the church is the love for Christ that pastors ought to pray grows in their own lives and in the lives of their church members.

Worship is more than singing. The Holy Spirit is the worship leader. We worship all the time since our bodies is the temple of the Holy Spirit. If Christ is the center of our lives individually ,then collectively we would reflect Him in a mighty way.

The greatest problem facing the church today is the great gulf that exists between those who have to choose whether to worship at the cost of imprisonment or death and those who must wrestle with deciding whether their kids should play in a soccer tournament on Sunday morning. One displays the great love for Christ that is preeminent and the other needs to be thrown out with the dirty bath water.

That is one of the biggest problems in living in a country where almost all physical needs are met so easily without hard work. Our consumer-driven, leisure worshiping culture lures us daily into lives of comfort that focus on satisfying various lusts that we are all subject to. That daily pull by the culture leads to us Christians having to make difficult, but necessary decisions to not participate in the culture when it would compromise our walk with Christ, including Biblical principles, which are of course, ETERNAL truths.

5:32 "You make sure that all your church gathering for worship is Christ focused--and then you don't have people sitting in the dark being entertained. That's... that just drives in the wrong direction--ummm--and again I don't wanna belabor the point, but hymns--as I said at the beginning--I can't come up with those words, but somebody else can come up with them for me, and literally take me out of myself--right? ...and elevate me when I sing those things, cos they're expressions that I can't form. ...and they allow me to praise Christ in a way that left to myself, I couldn't do..."

Hello, please, how would you rate this holy song in terms of doctrine and theology? 117 Praise the Lord, all nations!
    Extol him, all peoples!
2 For great is his steadfast love toward us,
and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.
    Praise the Lord!
Or Psalm 150 for that matter?
And what about the redundant content of some of those psamls, isn't it what one would be concerned with in modern worship music and songs (Psalm 136)?
I'm wondering about a "Dylannesque" bias in the Church.
    Glory to Yah!

The lack of love in the church of Ephesians means that they were failing to help others to become or pursue Christlikeness. The sound doctrine without a pursue of Christlikeness in us and others is useless.

The title Getting out of Babylon was not discussed. Babylon has to do with economics and, in the future, as revealed in the book of Revelation, Babylon is the economic system that the man of sin or son of perdition will orchestrate world-wide. In historical past, King Nebuchadnezzar burned Jerusalem, destroyed the Temple, took the vessels of it back to Babylon, led captive select men and women, for example, Daniel and the three Hebrew boys. {Some of the old people were left in the land to build and plant.} King Zedekiah was disabled and three sons killed. God's word at the mouth of his prophets came to pass, notably Jeremiah. Israel was economically ruined.

It's not easy for churches to switch to using a hymnal when they dont know any of the songs in it. There are good songbooks that are not hymns and I suppose there are bad songs but even though I have attended Calvary Chapels that don't use hymnals they do have some good songs that have decent content but not REFORMED songs of course but I haven't been to all of them so I don't know if some are different. And I have been to a Calvary for 20 years so a lot of things may have changed. My Presbyterian church uses hymnals but not all of them are good either because I cant sing some of them and others just dont sound good.

I also enjoyed much of the music coming out of the Calvary Chapels, however I do believe that music kind of peaked 20 years ago. Much of the music today is not rooted in sound doctrine, i.e. all the music about bringing down fire, and 'as above so below.' The only time God brought down fire, was to kill 450 high priests of Baal.

The fact that you all are doing this is evidence that you are already reformed but even the puritans were a small minority so can we ever expect anything better? When did the church EVER not need reformation? I love these pastor's conferences and Ligonier Ministries and the like.

    • @sylviac.6778
      @sylviac.6778 4 роки тому +1

But why the doctrine of John Calvin? The Bible repeatly and clearly states by God...the doctrine of Christ, just the doctrine of Christ. If he doesnt have the doctrine of Christ, then "he hath not God" The Second Epistle of John...verses of 9, 10, 11.
Such smart men? Then why do they ignore God's word? It was the Reformation from the false, controlling pagan doctrines ofthe Roman Catholic Church. Study the First Reich, all by the Catholic Church for 1006 years. All of these men and their wasted hours of argument, disputing and discussion, all sitting around at conferences ignoring the words of God. This is a form of Gnosticism as they grow wealthier, write more books, become more arrogant, more status but are so prideful in making a living telling the sheep what the Bible REALLY means, telling you to believe John Calvin, an angry agressive little French lawyer that insisted others believe as he does. These men are still tied to Catholicism and Gnosticism . Their use of many theological polysyllabic words, and their insistence on continued reformation and more men that have to explain it to you is prideful because we are incapable of in standing God's word for ourselves? . Men like this deliberately add complexity and confusion to the Bible , to keep many from trying to understand or to make us feel incompetant. If they are really trying to be faithful to God's word, then why skip over the words of God that says his words endureth forever and our faith should be like a little child. God himself says it is simple and God is not the author of confusion.

You fail when you talk about racism. That's not the Church's job. We are responsible individually to confess every sin to Christ. Racism is no more a corporate sin than adultery, or theft, or deceit, arrogance, or anything else. You diverge from the Gospel when you accept the world's emphasis on what they consider sin. We do not agree with the unregenerate reprobate God-haters on anything of substance.
