  • A questions & answers session with Drs. Sinclair Ferguson, Stephen Nichols, Burk Parsons, R.C. Sproul, and Derek Thomas.
    Introduction (0:00)
    Questions:
Some speak of the Reformation as more something to be mourned, and that it’s a schismatic movement. So, would it be a more important response to the Reformation to mourn, or is it right to celebrate? (0:00)
We often talk about recovering the Gospel. How was the Gospel lost in first place, and how can we avoid losing it again? (0:35)
What are the differences between sins, inequities, and trespasses? (4:52)
Do preachers, or pastors, have a higher importance than normal Christians? Would God favor a pastor more than myself or someone else? (9:05)
The phrase “Semper Reformanda,” “always reforming.” It’s often used to describe a constantly changing and evolving church. Is that what it means, that the church should always be in flux? (13:16)
What should we say though to folks who think that these issues that caused the Reformation aren’t really issues anymore today? (17:02)
In your assessment, what one personal quality or characteristic made Luther such an effective instrument in God’s hands to reform the church? What do you appreciate about Luther? (20:04)
What about today? What is the biggest threat to Christianity in this century, as you see it right now? (24:33)
Has the young, restless and reformed movement built on, or detract from the historical message of the Reformation? (28:01)
Where should our confidence be as we leave here tonight, as we assess the Reformation, where should our confidence be placed? (30:35)

R.C. Sproul at 13:32 says about "Semper Reformanda": "Unfortunately every heretic appeals to that mantra"; he got it right and Martin Luther was not the exception . . .

A faction of the people of the Scripture wish they could mislead you. But they do not mislead except themselves, and they perceive [it] not.Q3:69
O People of the Scripture, why do you disbelieve in the verses of Allah while you witness [to their truth]?Q3:70
O People of the Scripture, why do you confuse the truth with falsehood and conceal the truth while you know [it]?Q3:71
Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their [own] oaths for a small price will have no share in the Hereafter, Q3:77
It is not for a human [prophet] that Allah should give him the Scripture and authority and prophethood and then he would say to the people, "Be servants to me rather than Allah," but [instead, he would say], "Be pious scholars of the Lord because of what you have taught of the Scripture and because of what you have studied."Q3:78

The reason why the People of the Scriptures disbelieve Muhammad's words is because Muhammad's words do no comport with the Scriptures the People of God believe.

But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.

Say, "O People of the Scripture, come to a word that is equitable between us and you - that we will not worship except Allah and not associate anything with Him and not take one another as lords instead of Allah ." But if they turn away, then say, "Bear witness that we are Muslims [submitting to Him]."Q3:64

There is nothing equitable between Islam and Christianity, given Islam's rejection of the Son of God as the one true God incarnate, who came to pay the sin debt of humanity by dying on a Roman cross and shedding his blood.

Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence.Q3:1
He has sent down upon you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth, confirming what was before it. And He revealed the Torah and the Gospel. Q3:3
Before, as guidance for the people. And He revealed the Qur'an. Indeed, those who disbelieve in the verses of Allah will have a severe punishment, and Allah is exalted in Might, the Owner of Retribution. Q3:4
Who say], "Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower.Q3:8
Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam. And those who were given the Scripture did not differ except after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. Q3:18
Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allah is like that of Adam. He created Him from dust; then He said to him, "Be," and he was.Q3:59
The truth is from your Lord, so do not be among the doubters.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth" (Jn. 1:1, 14).

so if you believe the Gospel, which is grace through faith, why do you think God would change it from grace and suddenly require works to be saved in the Quran? In the Bible it says nobody was ever saved by works, nobody can ever be saved by works, because nobody is good enough to go to Heaven on their works.

      fatima I would like to introduce you to a portion of the Holy Scriptures of the One True God and his only begotten son Jesus Christ which states;
For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-- all things have been created through Him and for Him.
      (Colossians 1:16)
The entire word of God from the book of Genesis to the book Revelation is about Gods’ love, mercy, and patience with his creation (mankind) and the sacrifice of his only begotten son Jesus Christ by whom salvation from the wrath and judgement of God is only possible if one places their faith in Christ alone and obeys the word of the God of the Holy Bible... “NOT” Muhammed or Allah of the Quran!
Also, most importantly, God and Allah are “NOT” the same as you or others may try to teach or believe!
      The only one true God is;
Elohim = "God" (plural) as in the Creator: In the beginning God (Elohim) created the heaven and the earth (Genesis 1:1).
El Elyon = "God (singular) Most High": And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; now he was a priest of [El Elyon] God the Most High. And He blessed him and said, ''blessed be Abram of God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth; and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand (Genesis 14:18-20).
El Roi = "God Who Sees": Then she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, 'You are a [El Roi] God who sees'; for she said, 'Have I even remained alive here after seeing Him?' Therefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi [well of the living one who sees me] (Genesis 16:13-14).
El Shaddai = "God Almighty" or "God the All-Sufficient One"; the etymology is so ancient that Biblical scholars do not agree on the meaning of this name: I AM El Shaddai. Live in my presence, be perfect, and I shall grant a covenant between myself and you, and make you very numerous. And Abram bowed to the ground (Genesis 17:2-3).
Yahweh = found in Scripture as the consonants YHWH, known as the "Tetragramaton" is God's holy Covenant name. The letters form a word or words from the verb "to be" and most scholars translate it as "I AM who I AM" or "I will be who I will be", or "the Self-Existent One: Moses said to God, 'Look, if I go to the Israelites and say to them, The God of your ancestors has sent me to you, and they say to me, 'What is His name?' what am I to tell them?' God said to Moses, 'I AM He who is. Tell them that I AM who I am sent you (Exodus 3:13-14).
Adonai = "Lord" (Note: LORD, all in capital letters is a substitution out of reverence for God's covenant name "Yahweh"): Then Moses said to the LORD, 'Please Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither recently nor in time past, nor since you have spoken to your servant; for I am slow of speech and slow of tongue. And the LORD said to him, 'Who has made men's mouth? Or who make him dumb or deaf, or seeing or blind? Is it not I, the LORD?' (Exodus 4:10-12, NAB).
Yahweh-jireh = "Yahweh will provide" or "I AM will provide": But the angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said, 'Abraham, Abraham!' And he said, 'Here I am.' And he said, 'Do not stretch out your hand against the lad, and do nothing to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, form Me.' Then Abraham raised his eyes and looked, and behind him he saw a ram caught up in the thicket by his horns; and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the place of his son. And Abraham called the name of that place [Yahweh jireh] The LORD will provide, as it is said to this day: On the Mountain Yahweh provides (Genesis 22:11-14).
Yahweh-rapha = "Yahweh who heals": If you will give earnest heed to the voice of Yahweh your God and do what He regards as right, if you pay attention to His commandments and keep all His laws, I shall never inflict on you any of the diseases that I inflicted on the Egyptians, for I am Yahweh your Healer [Yahweh rapha] (Exodus 15:26).
Yahweh-nissi = "Yahweh My Banner": (after willing a battle with God's assistance ) Moses built an altar, and named it Yahweh is My Banner [Yahweh-nissi] ...(Exodus 17:16).
Yahweh-mekoddishkem = "Yahweh Who Sanctifies You": And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 'But as for you, speak to the sons of Israel, saying, "You shall surely observe My Sabbaths; for this is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am Yahweh who sanctifies you [Yahweh-mekoddishkem]...(Exodus 31:12).
Yahweh-shalom = "Yahweh is Peace": He said, 'Alas, my Lord, Yahweh! Now I have seen the Angel of Yahweh face to face ' Yahweh answered, 'Peace be with you; have no fear; you will not die.' Gideon built an altar there to Yahweh and called it Yahweh is peace [Yahweh-shalom] (Judges 6:22-24).
Yahweh-sabaoth = "Yahweh of Hosts" (the "hosts" are the army of angels who serve God): Who is He, this king of glory? Yahweh of Hosts [Yahweh-saboath], He is the king of glory (Psalm 46:7, NJB); The LORD of Hosts [Yahweh-sabaoth] is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold (Psalms 22:10, NAB).
Yahweh-raah = "Yahweh My Shepherd": The LORD [Yahweh raah] is my shepherd; I shall not want ...(Psalms 23:1, NAB).
Yahweh-tsidkenu = "Yahweh Our Saving Justice": Look, the days are coming, Yahweh declares, when I shall rise an upright Branch for David; He will reign as king and be wise, doing what is just and upright in the country. In his days Judah will triumph and Israel live in safety, and this is the name He will be called Yahweh-our-saving-justice [Yahweh-tsidkenu] (Jeremiah 23:5-6).
The Names of Jesus in the Book of Revelation:
1:5 The First-born from the dead
1:5 The highest of earthly kings
1:8 The Alpha and Omega (also 22:13)
      1:8 Lord God
      1:8 The Almighty
      1:13 Son of Man
1:17 The First and the Last (also 1:11;21:6;22:13)
      1:18 The Living One
      2:18 Son of God
3:14 Witness (also "faithful witness" in 1:5)
      4:11 Creator
5:5 Lion of the Tribe of Judah
      5:5 Root of David
      5:6 The Lamb
      7:17 The Shepherd
      12:10 Christ (Anointed)
      19:11 Faithful and True
      19:13 Word of God
      19:16 King of Kings
      19:16 Lord of Lords
What ever word you use when you call upon the name of God, remember to call in reverence and in love for the word that expresses the essence of God in His most intimate relationship with you is LOVE, for God is love (1 John 4:16c).
      We are waiting for Yahweh;
He is our help and our shield,
For in Him our heart rejoices,
In His holy name we trust.
Yahweh, let your faithful love rest on us.
As our hope has rested in you.
      Psalms 33:20-22
Read it for your self in the Holy Bible, it’s free of charge from any “Christian Church”...unlike the mosque where you must pay for a Quran book.

Say, "We have believed in Allah and in what was revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Descendants, and in what was given to Moses and Jesus and to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims [submitting] to Him."Q3:84

Too bad that your Qur'anic quote is a lie. If it were true, then there would be no Islam, nor any Muslims. They would all be Christians. But, since Muhammad's message is vastly different than the one found in both the Old and New Testaments, then the only conclusion that can be drawn is that Muhammad lied by preaching another "gospel."

      fatima
Im encouraged to see you found your way to a video like this. I have spoke to muslims on a personal level for the last 10 years in the streets of my city and shared the Gospel with them. Many of them came over from Saudi and had never seen the Bible before, i had a muslim lady pull me into an alleyway and say to me ‘tell me more about the Jesus of the Bible’. The Truth is Christ Himself, all the answers to your questions regarding sin, eternal life and salvation are found in Him. He came to save sinners and He is the First and the Last of all the prophets because He is eternal. Call upon Him and be saved. You’ll remain restless in your religion until you find your rest in Christ.
