Thats how I stretch carpet!! Nice and tight and flat!! You would be amazed at the amount of UK carpet fitters who don't stretch carpet enough or say that what you did is over stretched...
Why do put those sinker nails into the tack strips? And that tool that you have, not the kicker, where do you hook the far side, is it onto the far end of the tack strip

Nails are to further secure or tighten down the strips that have loosened with age.
Be better to use some new gripper
Don't quit your day job if this is really how you install find another profession
sounds if someone is a little insecure.
There are certain people that think they are better than others but I promise this guy can't even lay carpet.
