In case anybody is curious about how the Suicide Mission works, here it goes:
All your specialists and fire team leaders have to be loyal so that they don’t get either themselves or someone else killed.
The Normandy upgrades that matter are Shields (Tali’s), Armor (Jacob’s) and Guns (Garrus’).
Tech Specialists: Tali, Legion and Kasumi.
Biotic Specialists: Jack and Samara.
Fire Team Leaders: Garrus, Miranda and Jacob.
Crew Survival: If you do any mission before jumping into the Omega-4 relay members of your crew will die with each mission, the last one standing will always be Chakwas.
Any squad-mate will successfully escort the crew to safety, but if the squad-mate you chose is not loyal, the squad-mate will die the crew will still make it safely.
Final Run: The squad-mates that stay behind will survive depending on a value that the community calls the “Hold the Line Score” (HLS). Each squad-mate has a separate HLS, and any unloyal squad-mate will have their HLS reduced by 1.
HLS 4: Garrus, Grunt and Zaeed.
HLS 2: Thane, Samara, Miranda, Jacob and Legion.
HLS 1: Tali, Jack, Mordin and Kasumi.
The HLS of the whole squad that is left to defend the door has to AVERAGE 2 or higher (it is not the number of squad-mates, a lone unloyal Grunt will hold the door and live), an average of 1.5-1.9 will kill one squad-mate, 1.4-1 will kill two, 0.9-0.1 will kill three and 0 will kill all the squad-mates.
This means that Lucy had a very close call when picking Garrus and Kasumi, as if she would have picked any squad-mate with an HLS of 2 instead of Kasumi, one squad-mate would have died (Mordin).
The two squad-mates you pick to take point with Shepard will always survive as long as they are loyal. Shepard only dies if there are one or zero squad-mates alive. Meaning that you can still survive the Suicide Mission even when you don’t have all the upgrades and all your squad is unloyal if you play perfectly.
NOTE: If you chose Morinth over Samara, all of Samara’s attributes pass to Morinth.

@@lucyjrobyn Here's also a quick note, if you don't upgrade the Normandy, yes your squad mates will die but, different characters can die alternately. no armor upgrade, Jack dies, will always be her. no shield upgrades, any character can die but you can save them by bringing some members with you to avoid getting killed off by the explosion. the explosion doesn't randomly kill anyone, it will be the order and possibilities of each character, for example, if you take Kasumi and Legion with you in the Normandy will put Tali endanger. here's the order. If my calculations are correct, Then...
Kasumi 55%
Legion 30% Dies if you take Kasumi with you.
Tali 20% Dies if you take Kasumi and Legion with you.
Thane 10% Dies if Kasumi is not recruited, and take Legion and Tali with you.
Garrus 5% Dies if Kasumi is not recruited, Legion is sold, and take Tali and Thane with you.
Zaeed 2% Dies if Kasumi is not recruited, Legion is sold, Thane is not recruited, and Tali and Garrus are on the mission.
Grunt 1% Dies if Kasumi and Zaeed are not recruited, Legion is sold, Thane is not recruited, and Tali and Garrus are with you.
If you didn't upgrade the guns, Thane or Garrus (if Thane was killed by the explosion) will Die. If both are dead or not recruited the following crew members> Zaeed >Grunt >Jack >Samara / Morinth can die but that's rare.
Also if you selected Miranda to lead the diversion team during the seeker swarms, and gets shot, she will survive even if she is not loyal. Same thing if you pick a poor biotic specialist like Jacob or Thane, and bring Miranda and any squad-mate, whoever squad-mate you pick will get killed off and Miranda gets invisibility. She only dies if she's unloyal and brings her to fight the human reaper or let her stay and HLS if the HLS is poor. Like the No Shield upgrade explosion, There's an order of priority and death, Lucy picked Tali and Grunt, if she had picked a poor biotic specialist, Grunt would have died.
In HLS, as long they are loyal, you should be fine but you just need to leave 2 of the best HLS; Garrus, Grunt, or Zaeed, and your squad members will live. If you take two of them, it will cost Mordin's life. You can save Mordin by sending him to escort the crew members but it will put Tali in endanger.
That's why ME2 final mission is so GOATed, no one is safe, even Shepard

The reason why Legion wasn’t on the team was because they sold him to Cerberus rather than reactivating him. Fun fact tho u cannot import your save file to mass effect 3 if Shepard dies.

Firstly I am a 68 year old senior gamer. Bought the original and still have all of them. ( Including the Steam version 3 in one) Safe to say I have over 12,000 hours in 2 alone and this is the first time I have EVER seen the bad ending. Game or no game I just couldn't do it. What will encourage you ( or should ) is that after about 2 to 3 trips through the game you can max paragon and loyalties very quickly and use that save every time if so inclined. My first trip I lost Legion and Miranda. Second one Tali. I haven't lost one since. :) Great Video. Thank you!

My first ever playthrough, I managed to save everyone.
My second playthrough, I kept losing Mordin, even after 3 or 4 retries.
I don’t remember how I finally managed to save him (probably sent him back with the crew), but I finally did. Felt like it took forever, though
Since Lucy started ME3, I'll slide in a small word.
There are replacements for dead squadmates in ME2 like Padok Wiks for Mordin, Wreav for Wrex, Jason Prangley for Jack but there's no one for Garrus because they never thought someone would mess up that bad.
Favorite bit from ME 2: Joker goes totally sarcastic and imitates a robot with flipper fin hands and herky jerk movements =D

Even if you never play a male Shepard you'll hear Mark Meer, his voice actor, throughout the series: he voices all of the Hanar merchants in ME1. Actually, I believe he voices all Hanar period, as well as every Vorcha you speak to. There's probably some I'm missing but, he's the voice of the Volus 'Biotic God,' the Turian chef on the Citadel, Tali's captain on her LM and funnily enough he's the voice of the guy in Tali's squad on Freedom's Progress who's says no one would pay so much to bring back a dead soldier.
So cool! He is great
Final choices:
1. Whoever you take into the battle against the human/reaper hybrid will survive if they are loyal. (In this playthrough, Miranda and Jacob obviously weren't!)
2. Each member of the team you leave behind to hold the door, has a kind of "toughness rating." If the team is too weak overall, squad members will start to die in order of their individual toughness (weakest first). Ironically, this can mean that you should take weaker members with you to fight the reaper (since they will survive anyway, assuming they're loyal), and leave the more battle-hardened squad mates to hold the door.
3. Shepard dies if all the squad mates are dead (as they were here!). In this case, you can't carry the final save into ME3. You need to replay the mission, or start ME3 with a new Shepard.

Interesting how they included getting to the collector base in time to save the crew as part of a “worst ending” run. I get they didn’t send anyone back to escort the crew, but seeing them get liquified in front of you because you didn’t get there in time is worse than hearing they died off screen, IMO.

@@lucyjrobyn when it first happened to me, I wasn’t expecting it, so it was pretty wild. My first play through I saved everyone and got the good ending (destroyed the base), like yours. It wasn’t until my 6th or 7th that I changed up what I did enough to mess that part up, so it completely caught me off guard, lol.

the ending puts the "suicide" in suicide mission
The only thing I dislike about the Suicide Mission is the Math at "Hold The Line" part.
A not-so-fun fact: The longer you take to start the final mission, the more of your crewmates (the ones who get kidnapped by the collectors I mean) die.
There are actually replacement characters in ME3 if any of your squad mates die in ME2. Though why would you want them, right? We want the originals safe and sound!
Both on my original playthrough and my most recent I lost everyone who got taken but chakwas. I have to remember I can go back and do side missions after the game ends because I usually play the triology in a row and get used to ME1 where the game ends and that's it

Just wanted to thank you SO much for respecting your decisions! I've been watching another UA-camr while waiting for you and they changed a save when they lost someone (No hate for them, we play how we want to play :) ). It makes *such* a huge difference to see someone live with all their decisions. Awesome playthrough ❤
The final boss fight you can bring anyone with Shepard as long as there Loyal otherwise they will die
The final battle, the group that stays behind to hold off the Collectors when Shepard fights the Reaper, each character has a point value.
The higher the points, the better the odds of survival.
For the most part, I don’t remember the point values, but I do remember that Garrus, Grunt, and Zaeed all have the highest point values (like 12 or 13 each, I think), and Mordin has the lowest at 1. If you don’t send him to escort the crew back to the ship, he probably won’t make it (though sometimes he does).
Before Zaeed and Kasumi were released, it was much easier to lose people - if you took Garrus and Grunt with you to the Reaper battle, you were basically dooming your entire squad.
Once Zaeed was available, their survival odds improved quite a bit

Heyhey! Now that you've watched the worst ending, I can share a breakdown I've made for someone before if you'd like to see how things could have gone with the Suicide Mission with the upgrades, loyalties, choices during different sections of the mission. So if you'd like to know how all the different things matter, you can have a look here!
Here's the breakdown:
As you've seen, you can lose absolutely everyone during this mission, including Shepard!
- Like you saw, every missing upgrade (shield, armor, guns) will get a squad member killed before you even crash on the Collector Base.
- Choosing an unsuitable/disloyal Tech Specialist and/or Fire Team Specialist will get your Tech Specialist killed.
- If you did one (or a few?) missions after your crew was abducted before going through the Omega 4 Relay, half the crew will be dead.
- If you do even more missions, all of the crew will be dead.
- If you choose an unsuitable/disloyal Biotic Specialist for the shield, one of your chosen squad for that part will die.
- If the Distraction Fire Team Leader is unsuitable/disloyal, they will die.
- If you decide to not send an escort with your crew, the crew will die.
- If you send a disloyal squad member as escort, the crew survives, the squad member dies.
- Any disloyal squad member you take to the final boss fight will die.
Concerning the rearguard (cue Kirrahe's "Hold The Line!" 😁), the general idea is to leave your heavy hitters behind and take less tough squadmates with you, because they are tiered for sturdiness and are all tallied up for an average score. The amount of surviving squad members for the rearguard matter, alongside a sturdiness rating per squad member to make up the average score. Every squad member that is loyal has a higher score comparing to their disloyal counterpart. If the average score is above a certain threshold, like it was in your playthrough, they all live. If the average score is below a certain threshold, a varying amount of squad members can die the lower the average score gets. First you'll lose disloyal squad members, then from least to most sturdy. Which squad member you have sent as an escort earlier would also matter here, because if you'd have sent a sturdy character like Zaeed as escort, he wouldn't be around to up the average score for the rearguard. An escort like Kasumi is far less sturdy and would have lowered that average score and thus he makes an excellent choice as escort.
Lastly, if you would have had one or zero surviving squad members after all of this, Shepard would also not survive. Like you saw, EDI and Joker would be the only survivors and Joker would get the debrief with TIM (The Illusive Man). You'll get the reaper fleet at the edge of the galaxy cutscene and the rolling credits, but won't be able to make a save to import to ME3.

Useless information based on voicelines theoughout the mission:
-Zaeed was, at one point, intended to be a valid choice for fireteam leaders. Valid choices have two variations on their voicelines during the vents segment, updating Shepard of their progress. Invalid choices (including unloyal Garrus, Jacob, Miranda, and Zaeed) express difficulty, and that resistance is heavier than expected. Valid choices make stable progress throughout. Since Zaeed has voicelines making good progress, he was probably intended to work at one point in the same way as Kasumi
- All vent specialists, when initially describing the vent, will complain about the heat (this is before it starts killing them). The only exception is Thane; he's a Drell, and comments that the temperature is 'rather comfortable'
- Mordin is the only biological squad member who will ask EDI to relay the Normandy's location if chosen to escort the crew. The only other squadmate to do so is Legion. I have no idea why this is the case, but this comment is for useless information
- Mordin has voicelines for the biotic specialist escort. At some point in development, he was meant to be a biotic
Also Legion's death as the fireteam leader is one of the saddest to me for some reason. As they're dying, they say they are initiating archival upload, so they're attempting to load their 1138 runtimes out of the mobile platform before it shuts down and they're lost forever. They start repeating 'error: no carrier. No carrier. No carrier' before shutting down, and for some reason it always hits me a little harder than all other fireteam deaths (with the excpetion of the romance partner variants)
If you get that kind of 'worst possible ending', you'll be forced to replay from a previous savepoint (so that, at least, Shepard & +2 survive) or you replay ME2 from scratch... OR you play ME3 from scratch without previous game saves (because the "worst possible" ME2 game save won't even load).

Loyalty saves the last two, and one of them helps Joker with suppressing fire and the other pulls Shepard to safety. The ones at the door must have a specific total of hidden "combat ability points" or they start to die in order of weakest to strongest too.
You have to work to get this ending. I think it’s usually reserved for people who rush through the game and don’t get ship upgrades, crew loyalty, or they make poor decisions during the final mission. Pretty neat BioWare included such an ending though. And it can’t be imported into ME3 lol
That is why I started my comment saying someone has to work to get this ending. But I bet there absolutely is someone out there who did get this ending, out of the millions of people playing. @@Monkeynut358
oh your finally doing mass effect 3? nice nice, i do hope you do all sidequests before you progress with main story( Priority missions), though most of those sidequests are pretty fast (most of them just require you to scan planets and if you scan all available planets at the start of each session(each galaxy only comes available depending where you are in the story), so it wouldn't stack up and not take so much time, but do as you will, this is your show, i hope you all the best

14:03 simple, no loyalty missions
Jacob and Miranda died because they weren't loyal. Even if you make the right assignment for each job, the tasked ones will die if they aren't loyal. You can safely assume that the player skipped every single loyalty mission.
It must be said that you have to intentionally screw up to get this ending.
Also ME3 won't allow you to load a saved ME2 playthrough if Shep dies.
Ngl, in this playthrough, whenever Joker starts listing off the squadmates who have died I just laugh my ass off. Cause they clearly did each name separately and cut them together. So it just sounds so unnatural once you get past like 3 of them. Just really goes to show that the game was not meant to be played this way. Lmao 😂
It would *almost* work, if it wasn't for the fact that each name is obviously a completely different take.
Like they didnt get him to list off all names, cut them, and only play the relevant ones. They way his intonation works in the scene you're talking about makes it clear he sat in a booth doing different takes of each name individually lol
I think the reason Jacob and Miranda died is because their loyalty quests were not complete which an almost guaranteed death sentence in the suicide mission.
The only companion that even stands a chance of surviving being assigned a task while not loyal to Shepard is Miranda and even then thats only when shes leading a fire team.
Athough you had to try really hard to get this worst ending, keep in mind that this final mission was actually still harder when it first released for a few reasons.
- One, we were short two crew members. Zaeed and Kasumi were released later as DLC.
- Two, we didn't have others online telling us what was importan, like upgrades and loyalty missions. So no skipping Jacob's upgrade or doing his loyalty mission no matter how much you didn't like him, lol.
- Three, we didn't know we had to immediately rescue the captured crew members before doing any other missions. That was a surprise party no one wanted. So we would either trigger the capture too early and/or keep doing missions, blissfully unaware of the ticking clock. There was no "wait to do this until after you've done all of that" warning from the community.
(- And, four, though you probably did not know this either, which is why I put it in brackets, we didn't have online diagrams yet explaining that some characters are actually more powerful than others and should be left to hold the line on the final push. Like, who knew Jack, the psychotic biotic, secretly had the combat prowess of a wet noodle, according to BioWare's internal rankings?)
All that said, we had years to figure it out while waiting for the next game. So it was totally worth it.
My guess for jack being so low ranked is due to her being more of a glass cannon which isn't great for a holdout style fight
@@robertmartens9072 Idk, when you're expecting greater forces from behind, a cannon at your rear might be perfect though. She could deal more damage to a large group than any of the others and also hold off any more seeker swarms. To me, Jack always seemed like one of the best choices for holding the rear. But I do get what you're thinking and probably what BioWare was thinking, now that I know the rankings. It's just not how I thought about it then, nor really today except that today I know the cheat formula.
@@KittyBoom360 While this is a really good point the counterpoint is that they are expecting to have to hold for a long time. meaning all the biotics are going to exhaust themselves if they go all out like that. That might add to it where the more raw combat based ones like garrus and grunt just need ammo to keep going.

Good reminder of how your decisions and actions affect endgame , do your upgrades , do the loyalty missions , you did amazing in ME2. Thats why your the Chaos Queen and one of my favourite Shepards , well apart from me lol
I've only done one of these playthroughs, where I let everyone who could die, die. And didn't do any side missions, only the main quests... I felt so disgusted with myself, I didn't play for a while after 😂😂
This could have been worse also. They went RIGHT to the collector base. if you do anything else in between there, kelly chambers dies too

The thing is, unless you were negligent, it's so hard to achieve this worst ending on your first playthrough 😂. You'll basically have to deliberately achieve it by not doing loyalty missions and not upgrade the ship.

🤣🤣Ah poor Joker, got to save the galaxy all on his own now. In reality though, nobody is getting this ending accidentally.
To get this you have to DELIBERATELY make all of the worst possible decisions. People may get one or two deaths on their first playthrough but not everybody.
It's more of an easter egg ending you have to choose to get. Fun fact in case nobody mentioned it (I'm sure they did) - In the Arrival DLC there is another easter egg if you let the reaper artifact timer count down to zero you see the reaper invasion in a quick cutscene before the game over screen, there are videos of it on here of course.
Very true, some of the decisions were laughable! I keep meaning to watch that alternate Arrival ending too, thanks for the reminder!
Poeple asked as soon as they saw the "toal failure" ending "how can you take that save game into ME3?" and the answer is simple, you can't.
Never forget, Mass Effect is Shepherds story and for this Shepherd the story ends here.
I think an automatic uninstall of ME3 would be quite funny hahah

Whoever played that, they must have done that on purpose. All the worst decisions to make, they made them.
I never went through the relay without all updates, but I had people die in the first playthrough and it took me a bit to figure out that you have to go through the relay immediately after your crew got kidnapped to save them.
Usually took Tali with me in the last part, because I wanted her tech and someone with strong biotics, so Samara, Jack or Miranda. And Mordin or Kasumi brought the crew to the Normandy.
It doesn't look like they did any loyalty missions, so their playthrough was probably shorter.
Or they failed all the loyalty missions. 😧
I hope I will not miss the next stream.

@@BassaSelimI've done that enough times. I wanted to try something different. Try not opening Grunts tank. And, don't turn on Legion. Then wake them after the suicide mission and do you're other side quests. The mod I want to get is getting Legion really early and listen to his dialog on your side quests. Developers have written them. But since the Xbox 360 discs came in a two box set they had to put Legion on the second disc, which means you have to get him late. In the mod, you pick up Legion on your solo mission on the ice planet to collect dog tags.
I know already that ME3 will be tough for you and I'm happy to see the struggle lol 😅

I kind of hate it when "my" streamer is suffering.
It will be hard to not try to keep you from "bad" decisions like all the ones that lead to this ending.
, Mass effect 3 isnt the last mass effect game, Mass effect Andromeda is the last one, if you do play that one, you should use mods, if you care about your sanity (AKA mods that are basicaly quality of life type mods). but you will see what i mean when that time comes.

U need only 1 loyal companion to survive the mission👿 so if u want to kill everyone u know now how to do it but 1 ohter will survive to let u with 2 companion after the suicide mission 😈😈🔥🔥 if u are a real renegade u will be loyal to zaeed ONLY kill the others 😈
