Really appreciate the little things in the video. For example pointing them all out with a laser and telling us all the sizes needed. It's a big help and also nice to see before you do if your just a weekend warrior or someone learning. Keep it up!
I appreciate people like you Brian, that help others. Your explanation of procedure is a wealth of information, and very good to have available. Thanks!
You are an awesome teacher sir. If you could be inspired I would ask you to actively consider being an auto shop teacher. You have a gift that not everyone has. Thank you
Hey Brian I just did my number 8 glow plug your video really helped ma and I had it done in 30 minutes keep up the good work and nice to see you have a good personality in your vids
Steering shaft on the driver's side #4 is in the way. Charge pipe on #2 is in the way. Releasing it on the top side gives you enough play to get to the glow plug and get it out. The steering shaft is supposed to come apart for #4 but I couldn't get mine to separate. I got lucky and got it out and got the new one in. Absolutely use the never seize. Good video. The glow plugs are running $30 for AC Delco now so I'm replacing them as they fail. I would be careful with anything aftermarket if the electrode breaks off it will grenade your motor and that gets expensive to save a few bucks. Thanks for this video, it's always nice to have a reference before doing this job.
Auto lite was the only ones available when I bought them. Struggled for thirty Minutes to get the wires tight before the plug fell apart. When and got NGK right side completely changed in 5 minutes. DON’T USE AUTOLITE!
Thank you for sharing this with us. I really appreciate the knowledge you pass on to guys like me. Done very well. My GMC needs 2 and 6, so I will follow your recommendations and have all 8 replaced
EXCELLENT step-by-step. Helped me immensely. My #4 went out.. (behind steering shaft) was able to get it all out without disconnecting anything. Thanks for posting. huge help
Nice video, thanks for doing it. I haven't had to do a whole lot to my 2011 LML yet. Did the fuel filter today for the first time. But videos like yours give me a better idea what all is involved when I do have to "cross that bridge".
Great to see this. Had a P0677 code so need to change #7. Came out easy but the new one going in would not go in like it should. This is a 2011. Mic'd the shafts and found a few thousands difference in the main shaft in front of the threads but the real problem was the glow shaft. it also was 3 to 4 thousands to large. Stuck the plug in a drill and used sandpaper to reduce the diameter. Thanks again Brian!
Great video. Helpful hint to those who only have the number 8 plug out. You can access from underneath the truck without taking off wheel well plastic (which is a pain). Only tricky part is getting the new one lined up. Look carefully where it is when it comes out. It is right next to a fairly big bolt. And you can see the machining in the block from the wheel well side that contours to the shape of the plug. Note, it helps to have scrawny forearms like mine. Steve Garvey and Popeye type guys might have some trouble.
Thanks man this video was super helpful now i also know where the starter is and a few of the other extra parts you named and how to do the plugs thanks man
This is a wonderful video very informative. I'm looking because I just got myself a dyramax and I like to do all of my own maintenance and I have only changed the glow plugs in a 94 detroit diesel. With that said I made the mistake of putting something on the threads when reinstalling them. DONT PUT ANY THING ON THE THREADS OF A GLOW PLUG!!! I had to immediately replace the ones on my 94 because if it. And it's harder to see in the duramax without a wait to start time. The glow plugs grown on the block .
Thanks for the helpful video, saved me a lot of money and gave me the confidence I needed to get er done!! If another check engine light comes on hopefully you have a detailed video for it. Thanks again.
great video! have a 3500 duramax 6.6 which quit starting yesterday and getting ready to go after this glow plug and fuel filter today...thanks for videoing and showing us how its done! you make it seem so easy! wish me luck! :)
Love that Ron Paul poster in the background. Also, your hose clamp puller is for the spring loaded types of hose clamps. Great tutorial, have to do one of mine on my 2008, on the driver's side. I gather I'll just change to one considering the mess on that driver's side.
Great video! Had the code come up today, cylinder #4. Sucks it is on the driver side, but video gives me all the info I need to tackle it. Might just buy the extra plugs and do all on that side while I am in there.
briansmobile1 hey ty bud. I am looking at buying a 2001 duramax 3500 4x4 dully. the owner says it's got glow plug issues no start. so I been looking up your videos and I am more confident to buy this truck now that I have your videos. at first I was uninformed and reluctant to consider it.
Thanks for the video. Took about 3 hours because I didn't have the proper tools but otherwise no problems. Those plastic fasteners are a pain and that's what took most of the time.
As always Brian, great job in showing us this how to vid. I'm still waiting for a good video on how to replace a FPR on a Dmax. I own an 05 LLY that needs one haha. I'll just keep waiting :) Take care.
Looking at your video and it's very helpful. I have a 2012 3500 and glow plug number 3 failed with just only 51k on the odo. Should I just change number 3 or all?
Very helpful video! Thank you! I got a code saying the #7 glow plug needs to be replaced. My question is this: Should I go ahead and replace all 8 now or just replace #7? I bought this truck used from a widow whose late husband did all his own mechanic work and she has no maintenance records about the truck. It is a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Diesel 6.6 Duramax. What would you do?
Exactly, and everything is accessible just by popping the hood! I've only once had an issue with the grid heater, the ring terminal on to the batter broke off, not bad for a 19 year old truck.
Hi, I have an 02 Duramax LB7 and was wondering if you have any recommendations as far as how I should go about making sure the gp's don't break off. I assume some penetrating oil 24 hrs before a few times?
Wow! Great DIY video. My 2003 Duramax won't start under 30F so I have to always keep it plugged in. Can I find out which plug is bad and just replace 1 or do I need to replace all 8? Thanks
Sweet truck, good vid...any advice on getting a snapped glow plug out? The head broke off at the top of the plug, and the half the diode came out...think its still OK to drive?
Thank you for the great video. I have a #2 that needs replacing. Does the steering shaft absolutely have to come off to clear the plug, or is there another way? Also, do you recommend replacing all of them at the same time, the truck is at around 87K miles.
2006 2500 HD. number 5 glow plug and no more check engine light! I wouldn't even have bothered with it if not for up coming smog (CA bull s#!t) thanks for the video bud!!!
Hey Brian, Thanks for the video. A link to those body pin pliers on Amazon would be really helpful. Or at least the part number of the tool. Best regards, Roger
Is there any torque specs required on replacing the glow plugs itself and the retaining nut to hold the wire on top lots of good information in this video thanks for posting it. 👍
Dude! You totally saved my a$$; Had #6 go out today and leaving on a trip tomorrow. Not sure if you see this, but this is the 2nd time #6 has gone out in 18mo; 2011 GMC Denali 2500 4wd with 150k miles. Am I looking at a larger problem.
When you take them out, is there any way to tell which plug was bad? Will it be obvious? Might as well change them all. Don't need a torq wrench then? Thanks for the video. You made it look pretty easy. Thanks man
Great walk through on a P0676. Kudos on sound, light, and def the laser. One thought- good idea to ohm test the plug first to make sure it's not the circuit or module? If so, what should range be?
will this video apply to 02 GMC Sierra with the duramax? I have been driving mine with the check engine light on for 65K miles and it is now at an overall odometer reading of 206K miles. I bought it 7 or 8 years ago and the light was on when I bought it so I don't know how long it has been on overall Several mechanics have said that it is the fuel injector but a mechanic told me today that it is the glow plugs.
Thanks for the video! My 2013 Silverado is showing a P0677 code. I heard if you break one of those glow plugs you’re in deep shit so I think I’m gonna take it to a garage. I’m gonna have them do all of them.
if i use antiseize should i tighten them down pretty tight, or should i just turn them in by hand then give it a little torque with the rachet and socket?
Thanks for the video! Hey I'm in the same boat as baccracker - I'm stumped, how did you get the #2 plug out? Did you remove the steering shaft or is there a trick to it?
I know this is not related to this video but would you think of doing a video on setting Toe on fwd cars after tie rod replacement as I have a tough time getting wheel straight after I change tie rods
Nice video, very descriptive! I changed all the plugs on my 2003 duramax, except for the one directly behind the steering column. I believe cylinder 4 or 6. Any advice?? Do I need to disconnect the shaft? Its hard to get to and there's not much clearance. Any tricks or tips to this? Appreciate it! Thanks.
I'm sure you figured it out by now, but for anyone else searching for the answer: I just took a ratchet strap and wrapped it around the steering shaft. With a little bit of downward pressure, I was able to fit a 3/8" drive 12mm deepwell socket in there no problem. I also used a short extension so the ratchet clears.
Good job Brian! My 06 LBZ w/62,000 mi just popped a P0678 code; should I replace 1 or all the glow plugs? Also, do you have the part # of your Lisle Hose Clamp pliers? Thanks bro!
Hey brian, have a 2002 f150 4.2 v6, while in drive and reverse it stumbles very hard nearly to point of a stall, occasionally it will stall. I've put a new pcv hose on it and various other things. Doesn't do it while driving or in park. I'm suspecting a vacuum leak, any ideas? Thanks.
She actually had her baby on Wednesday and things went easy/great and they're both home now. If you're not towing anything heavy, I'd get a 1/2 ton gas truck. If you're towing anything 10K lbs or more it's best to get a 3/4 ton diesel.
Trick to NOT lose the small nut on top of glow plug - place a small piece of electrical tape (sticky side down on socket) over the end of 11mm socket. force the nut in. It will stay in until you remove it. then easily extract it with finger nails. One piece of tape did all 8 plugs easy. Use this to put them back on as well - saved me a lot of time and risk of losing a key part.
Really appreciate the little things in the video. For example pointing them all out with a laser and telling us all the sizes needed. It's a big help and also nice to see before you do if your just a weekend warrior or someone learning. Keep it up!
Welcome Cody, thanks for being part of it.
yes the lazier was awesome! big help!! thank you!!

great video! have a 3500 duramax 6.6 which quit starting yesterday and getting ready to go after this glow plug and fuel filter today...thanks for videoing and showing us how its done! you make it seem so easy! wish me luck! :)
Were you able to get it done on your own?
Excellent video. I got the code from the guy at the auto parts store who didn't know much about Glow Plugs, so I said, "I'll try UA-cam." Thank you.
Excellent video! Thank you, narrating what you were doing and why was much appreciated:)

Awesome video, thanks for posting it. I'll be tearing into my 2500HD this weekend and now I have no doubt I can do it instead of paying someone else!
Hold fist in front of face. Thrust straight down and grin!
Thank you for the video, very well done.

Awesome video, i was nervous about changing mine out, was gonna ask my step dad since he's a Diesel mechanic buuuut i think i got it
Were you able to get it done on your own without any problem?
Thanks for the great video!
I'll give it a try this weekend, thanks.

Good call. In the computer industry it's CAN Computer Area Network. (I have a diverse background so I mess stuff like that up.) Thanks.
Thanks for the video but my truck sparks in the crank pulley does this have something to do with glow plugs?
amazing video, keep it up man

found it myself- ohms should be .4, if over 1 replace, if not, test circuit and module
Excellent video !
Got the same code on mine P0676 , how tight should I retighten the glow plugs to after I change them?
Hello, you mentioned using cleaner after you remove the glow plug. What do you use?
thanks man great vid
I'm new and liked with thumbs up and subscribed.Thank you.
thanks for the help ! You have save me about $300 so far . Thanks again
I know I'm kind of off topic but does anyone know a good place to stream new tv shows online?
@Joshua Arthur I use Flixzone. Just search on google for it =)
@Jackson Parker yup, have been watching on Flixzone for years myself =)
@Jackson Parker thanks, I went there and it seems to work :D I appreciate it !!
@Joshua Arthur glad I could help :D

Thanks for the video! Hey I'm in the same boat as baccracker - I'm stumped, how did you get the #2 plug out? Did you remove the steering shaft or is there a trick to it?

Heater grid and two relays right?
Good job Brian! My 06 LBZ w/62,000 mi just popped a P0678 code; should I replace 1 or all the glow plugs? Also, do you have the part # of your Lisle Hose Clamp pliers?
Thanks bro!
Brain, thanks for the video, can u pls advise what is the name of that lisle tool
Thanks' can you change just one or all or all on the one side your working on.
Thanks.

To remove # 4 did you take the steering column loose? if so what did it involve?
Do you have a video on replacing the Injectors for the Duramax lly engine?
Should I disconnected battery on a 2006 silverado 2500 hd 6.6 before I remove the glow plugs
How do you know which one to replace? GM dealership quoted me $380 for the work done but I am not sure which one(s) I should replace.
With a 2011 duramax with 85,000 k , one glow plug needs replacement . Would you do them all at this stage or just as needed ?
She actually had her baby on Wednesday and things went easy/great and they're both home now. If you're not towing anything heavy, I'd get a 1/2 ton gas truck. If you're towing anything 10K lbs or more it's best to get a 3/4 ton diesel.
great video. thanks
What brand of glow plugs do you recommend?
Do you ever have a problem getting the glow plugs out of the block? If so how do you approach that? Where is a good place to buy the glow plugs?
Great video
What is the brand and part number of the tool you used to remove the plastic fasteners for the fender liner?
Does the check engine reset itself or you actually need to reset with the scanner
Yes. Yes I would like that. I think I might actually be able to say it correctly then. Thank you.

I tried to find the type of hose clamp tool you use here with no luck. Could you post the brand and model? Thanks for your help.
great video
I have a question...can I just replace one side of go plugs and not have to do all 8? Cylinder 3 is out and triggering my check engine light.
THANKS FOR VIDEO,
