God has put adding the enrichment on my heart last year, and that's what I was going to start our next school year. Thank you very much for the practical tips on how to implement it in our school day. God's timing is perfect 😊
Thank you for joining us, so glad that this post was timely for you. God's timing is always perfect!
My son is now in 11th grade. I regret not doing more handicrafts, but I never wanted to deal with it. Storing the stuff, the clean-up, etc. was just too much for me. It seems like we also had subjects we HAD to do to keep up, and those always took priority. Also, I'm not artistic at all. I wish I'd found someone else to lead him in this.
Thank you for joining us and for sharing your thoughts and experience on this topic! We can all relate to at times avoiding a subject we are less comfortable with and/or don't prefer. Here is a post to encourage you with that: simplycharlottemason.com/blog/your-questions-answered-when-your-child-doesnt-like-a-subject/
Here are some ideas for handicrafts: simplycharlottemason.com/timesavers/handicrafts/
SCM recommends "Creating a Masterpiece for art instruction:

SCM has a variety of handicraft courses available complete with instruction as part of this series:

Additionally, SCM has recommendations to use the rope coiling crate from Craftsman Crate in one of our "Enrichment Studies" guides, here is a link to their website. Many of their resources are designed for high schoolers and given that your student is older you may find additional resources through them that you would like to use.

So glad that this post was timely for you. Thank you for your prayers for Sonya.
Great ideas to sprinkle in throughout the week. Planning my school year, this podcast makes it a lot easier.
So glad you found this helpful, praying you have a wonderful year!
Thank you for your prayers! I came back to this episode hoping to be able to leave another comment for the team...I've been Homeschooling since my eldest was preschool age. I also started that journey at the same time as starting cancer treatment. The years following were rough! This year, 7 years later, I finally feel like I have the strength and information to take on the task of making sure my children have the education they need, instead of just "teaching to the test", or relying on my own government school experience. This entire channel has helped me change my paradigm. Thank you so much, to the whole team. Prayers for you all!
We have done or will be doing all of these suggestions this year!
Thank you for sharing, it sounds like you have a wide feast spread for your students in your homeschool!
❤thanks Sonya for your wonderful encouragement! God bless you

You're very welcome!
I’m a creative person. I love the arts, poetry, music, love to sing. Last school year I did all of these activities and my 2 boys (8 & 10) absolutely hated most of them, with slightly more enthusiasm from my 6 yo daughter. Can’t get any of them to sing, either. Nature study was about all they’d tolerate. I’m still excited to jump back in and give these another try this year, but it’s been very discouraging. Makes me wonder what I’ve been doing wrong. Any suggestions?
Hi, Thank you for reaching out with your questions! We will not all enjoy the same things and that is ok, we are all individual people. The idea here is to spread the feast so that children are exposed to a wide variety of subjects and ideas. Not all people are comfortable singing for example, so perhaps having an open and honest conversation with your children where they can share thoughts, concerns, questions, etc. about this subject area may be helpful. Also perhaps giving them some options within the subject area would help. For example we are going to study artists, which of these three artists would you like to pick? Or give them each one enrichment subject area where they have the option. SCM recommends three artists per year, so that could be a point where each of them selects one artist for a term. This also could be they aren't comfortable yet and some more time and exposure they will gain some comfort, we will not all have the same favorite subjects and that is ok however you may see increased participation with time. Music study for example could be playing the composer in the car when you drive somewhere. Some families enjoy reading a poem with an afternoon "tea time" this isn't required for poetry study, however can be a way to increase the enjoyment with young children and create a special time that everyone is looking forward to. This post has some helpful tips on what to do when a child does not like a subject. simplycharlottemason.com/blog/your-questions-answered-when-your-child-doesnt-like-a-subject/
Praying for you Sonya! 🙏♥️
Thank you for your prayers for Sonya!
Some good ideas. Reminds me of all of what I’m lacking. I have no interest in art, music, poems, etc. horrible to say, but true. And because of that, I am the worst for my kids to try to teach this. I lack the left brain like most mothers have.
Thank you for joining us and sharing your thoughts on this topic! It is true that our comfort and our preference with different subjects will impact our teaching of those subjects to our children. If these are subjects you would like to start to include, even if you don't find them to be your strength or preference, it is still possible! Here is a post to encourage you in this area. simplycharlottemason.com/blog/your-questions-answered-when-your-child-doesnt-like-a-subject/
