One does not see any prophet hood established until Gilgamesh but springing up of organized religious institutionalized government is evident from Gilgamesh period which is the first point in human history, declaring of the ruler to be the representative of forces of nature was the common practice so that people could be controlled and their faith could be established in the house of rulers. As generally people feared the forces of nature.
The epic is a fictional poem containing numerous mythological elements, such as gods, supernatural beings, and fantastical adventures, besides s3x between the gods. The story is structured as an epic poem, is not historical, but with a focus on themes like friendship, the quest for immortality, and the human condition. It is not the establishment of priesthood or a religious document outlining observances. Trusting the Epic of Gilgamesh to be any more authoritative for religious purposes than the Lord of the Rings, is to believe that The DaVinci Code is an interpretive key to the Jewish scriptures.
It's pretty clear with Church writings, as with many other writings from history, the winners get to write the history, and losers writings are often destroyed.
Paul and Bart are blinkered. The original source or version of a text is not what’s important, it’s the content that’s important and whether, psychologically, it works or not. The reason Christianity is in decline is precisely because it hasn’t changed since the Middle Ages. As Carl Jung said: “To be sure ‘Christ’ gave the myth a new meaning for the man of antiquity. But when we still go on stressing the newness 2000 years later, we must point out what exactly is the news for us, which we haven’t yet heard and understood.” Yes, it’s interesting and useful to see how and why a text has changed since it was first written down but ultimately what matters is - can you understand its meaning and is the message relevant or not. If Bart (with the the aid of a Time Machine) had the original Gospels in his possession with the ink still wet, he still wouldn’t understand what Christianity is about. Bart’s portrayal of early Christian diversity is misleading too because he fails to understand the psychology of religion. Carl Jung describes it better when he describes it thus: “Christianity really arose from the spirit of Gnosticism, but came into conflict with it later, because the Gnostics threatened to dissolve Christianity with their philosophical speculations.” ~Carl Jung, ETH Lecture V. Page 162. It was the spirit of Gnosticism that give rise to the diversity of Christian thought.

I found Bart's videos a couple of years ago. Bart became my favorite author when I studied, over twenty years. The Snake and the Worm Jesus was to be lifted up like the serpent. There are two appearances, within the same generation - the sacrifice followed by the resurrection. YHWH judged the gods - who neither know nor understand, wandering about in darkness - and became the snake - thus fulfilling the law. Adam, the Christ, wields the fiery sword, judges the earth, and becomes a worm - thus fulfilling the law. (Are they) unjust, humanly speaking, to inflict his wrath? Of course not! For how else (are they) to judge… ? And why not say-- as we are accused and as some claim we say-- that we should do evil that good may come of it? Their penalty is what they deserve. (Rom 3:5-8 NABO) The gods will be measured against the judgment (sacrifice) by Adam. YHWH is without measure.

Yet presumably the copies around today couldn’t use the Dead Sea scrolls to check their accuracy…..yet they are identical. The atheist seems to think heretic teachings are just as valid as the Church’s. Yet those heresies died out and the Church’s teachings continued.
The correct conclusion is that there is no god, or at least no god that makes himself known. Islam's claim of being the original faith has no support in archeology nor textual criticism. In fact it is refuted by what we know about the evolution of religion.
I have a doubt.. His works are pro Islam/ supports the muqaddima of Islam or does it conflict with Islamic Dailoug. I want to study his work but i don't know weather i would get information in favour of giving dawah to Christians or not...
Very hypocritical from the Muslim gentleman. Bart’s arguments could be equally used against the Quran. You don’t have the original manuscripts of that either
Perhaps no way to know ... but we can extrapolate. The "Hebrew" bible was circumstancially adopted by the Jewish faith. the Jewish faith actually began during the reign of King Josiah, after KJ ordered his chief (pagan) priest to appropriately "restore" a manuscript of the Books of Moses that had been found hidden in Solomon's pagan-devolved Temple. What was actually produced was the JEWISH Faith, as devinely revealed from an ancient codex that had been "missing" for generations.
I would love bart to have told us how the differences in Jeremiah or the other books affect the stories or meaning. I suspect it doesn't affect the story or meaning in any way and that is why he doesn't mention anything about it. The differences are probably just altering text as language evolves. For example I'm fairly sure the English translation is longer again but it doesn't alter the meaning from earlier copies.
Yhwh not really god's name. I heard of jew said that the name of god is so pure and secret, they are not allow to pronounce it. Yhwh is like "he" refer to god without saying his name. The word yhwh is not really from torah , i forgot where the word came from.

What if heretics ARE malicious? Like, why would you try to falsify God's teachings, except for bad intentions? I mean, could Jesus Christ be any clearer that there would be false teachings. (With which I do not want to say that the Nicene creed and the surviving big churches are the ones that necessarily represent the correct teachings - in fact, I would deny that.)
Problem is that everybody are heretics, because there's no true faith. It's all made up. Of course those who deliberately change or add to the previously made-up body of belief are doing so for reasons, but they don't have to be malicious, although they're usually selfish in some sense.
Would have been great to hear an answer to the second part of the final question. What I find baffling is how are scholars such as BE not seduced by Islam when all the issues he has discovered in Christanity are absent in a comparatively flawless narrative free of inconsistency
He used to be a Christian pastor. He has trust issue now. This is the reason Christian become Atheist although In Bart Ehrman case there is still hope because he is still a theist but refuse to be a Christian ever since he started digging into the authenticity of Gospels. He discovered huge holes 🕳️ a book without Author becomes an idea, a point of view. For ex: you had Unitarians Christian who read same Bible and come up with polar opposite opinion. Point of View.
If you compare deeply with understanding, you'll see that islam is a shallow copy of christianity with added errors and misunderstandings of original motifs and stories. That's why. So while Bart knows Christianity is false, he understands that Islam is even more so.
@@jesan733 No you can't look at Islam as a simply a book. You have to look at as a whole. Bart is only interested in Christianity I do not think he looked at Islam as a whole. Question I would ask is what did the man who made claim gain from it? I mean follow the money. Did he got rich from spreading a message? Was it about money? Did he died rich? Did he had offers? Why cause civil war over it? Most importantly what was his message? If you go by something being old then Hinduism is the oldest religion. Get this they have Trimurti the triune God theory. So the Trinity is not a new concept get it and Bart must know this. You can say Islam is a stand alone religion but historically Ishmael were the Arabs this fact is undeniable fact. Bart want Christianity to be what Islam is therefore he is only interested in Christianity. Name me a religion that accept Jesus other then ISLAM? BTW science doesn't support Virgin birth if Islam was not putting his neck out Christianity would be debunk just on science facts. 🤔🤔🤔
@@kashkash9244 I don't have to look at islam as a whole. If the quran is man-made, and it is, then the religion is not truth but made up. And then I don't have to look further. Muhammad became the centre of everyone's attention and respect by creating the religion, and he got the women he wanted. He was rich in the same manner as Putin is. These men make things so complicated. If we are imperfect beings and God still allows us to breathe this means our God is good and if he is good he should be trusted. Just because a scroll came in less or more or accurate or not does not show that God is incomplete but that we are incompetent
Dead Sea scrolls were only fragmented manuscripts preserved in those jars in that cave. The nation Israel is credited with preserving the OT scrolls by copying them under the strictest rules or standards. Dead sea scrolls perhaps were individual owned copies. But the most important thing with those Dead Sea scrolls, they were accurate copies of the preserved copies from the originals. Dead Sea scrolls therefore served as strong evidence of the preservation of copies from the originals.
Dead Sea scroll doesn't match the bible we have today. This what Bart Ehrman is saying, there is a contradiction. There are things in today bible that are not in Dead Sea scroll. There are things in Dead Sea scroll that are not in today's bible. If Dead Sea scrolls are the oldest then people have to abandon today's bible and adapt Dead Sea scrolls. A decision Church Father refuse they only accept what aligns with their view. Ex: Gospel of Thomas discarded, Book of Enoch discarded. Are they not inspired word? Who decide it Men?
@@kashkash9244 Folks never understood how the OT manuscripts were preserved. The nation Israel was in charge of preserving the OT manuscripts by copying them under the strictest rules or standards. The evidence for it is the Greek translation (sometime in 250 BC during Ptolemy's reign) of the OT known as the Septuagint. Therefore, there was a complete copy of the Manuscripts both Hebrew and Greek before the Qumran scrolls were discovered. It is just absurd those Qumran scrolls which were not under the keeping of Israel would serve as the standard manuscripts. It is apparent they were fragmented scrolls individually owned or kept generally by Israel, but were kept in the caves due to wars for preservation if in case. One should take not there was not only one copy made for the manuscripts keeping in danger of its preservation. The scribes worked full time copying every day the Manuscripts.
@@kashkash9244A contradiction would be, stating a fact occurred, vs. stating the same fact did not occur. A contradiction is not a change in chapter order or different phraseology to convey the exact same message. Nor is a contradiction differences in punctuation and spelling, of which is the majority of textual changes throughout the Bible. Here is better list of Dead Sea Scrolls, as kept and added to, by the Qumran community: Great Isaiah Scroll (1QIsa): Contains the entire Book of Isaiah. Second Isaiah Scroll (1QIsa): Another copy of portions of Isaiah. Habakkuk Commentary (1QpHab): A pesher (commentary) on the Book of Habakkuk. Genesis Apocryphon (1QapGen): An expanded narrative of parts of Genesis. Sectarian Texts Community Rule (1QS): Describes the rules and beliefs of the Qumran community. War Scroll (1QM): Details an apocalyptic battle between the Sons of Light and the Sons of Darkness. Thanksgiving Hymns (1QH): A collection of hymns and prayers, Apocryphal and Pseudepigraphal Texts Book of Tobit: A narrative about Tobit’s piety and adventures. Wisdom of Ben Sira (Sirach): A collection of ethical teachings. Epistle of Jeremiah: A letter attributed to the prophet Jeremiah. Other Notable Manuscripts: Temple Scroll: Describes an idealized temple and its regulations. Copper Scroll: Lists hidden treasures. Songs of the Sabbath Sacrifice: Liturgical texts for Sabbath worship. Of course, it doesn't perfectly match the accepted masoretic text, it has too many biased and unnecessary inclusions.
@@kashkash9244Additionally, I've read both the Book of Thomas and Book of Enoch. They are way off the beaten path to include. If you include them you might as well include anything else that was ever written, no matter how untruthful or or fanciful.
@@claromagallanes2877Exactly. Even Bartthe atheist knows that. Also, the scribes worked off a Master manuscript that upon creation was rigorously examined under complex copying requirements before approval and singley used until it wore down necessitating another laborious creation of another Master. Multiple Masters were made and transferred to heads of synagogues and churches for use. The Scribes outside of Jerusalem could not control the subsequent normal distributed copies from the Master made outside their region of authority. Regardless, everyone involved in copying had a very high and solemn view of the work they were engaged in ( it was a professional job) because it was after all God's word, and nobody wanted to be responsible for altering it. Edit: Amazing that we have so much textual evidence, when Christianity was a forbidden sect by both the Jewish and Romans for a couple hundred years and every scripture or Bible found in Christians possesion were destroyed.

As Carl Jung said:
“To be sure ‘Christ’ gave the myth a new meaning for the man of antiquity. But when we still go on stressing the newness 2000 years later, we must point out what exactly is the news for us, which we haven’t yet heard and understood.”
Yes, it’s interesting and useful to see how and why a text has changed since it was first written down but ultimately what matters is - can you understand its meaning and is the message relevant or not. If Bart (with the the aid of a Time Machine) had the original Gospels in his possession with the ink still wet, he still wouldn’t understand what Christianity is about.
Bart’s portrayal of early Christian diversity is misleading too because he fails to understand the psychology of religion. Carl Jung describes it better when he describes it thus:
“Christianity really arose from the spirit of Gnosticism, but came into conflict with it later, because the Gnostics threatened to dissolve Christianity with their philosophical speculations.” ~Carl Jung, ETH Lecture V. Page 162.
It was the spirit of Gnosticism that give rise to the diversity of Christian thought.
Thank you, interesting as usual

The Snake and the Worm
Jesus was to be lifted up like the serpent.
And why not say-- as we are accused and as some claim we say--
that we should do evil that good may come of it?
Their penalty is what they deserve. (Rom 3:5-8 NABO)
The gods will be measured against the judgment (sacrifice) by Adam. YHWH is without measure.

Basically your Islanic Allah is not able to preserve the original version from the time of Mohamed but needs to replace and update. This indicates the human Quran author is trying to make up excuses for the Quran changing over time, example Uthman burning the other Qurans and for the fact there are still to this day dozens of different Quran versions available.
Your top Islamic scholars know this but they dont share it publicly, type "holes in the narrative Quran" on youtube as an example
Also, open your Quran, notice at the start of the Quran the versus are longer compared to the end of the Quran where the versus are smaller, this shows 2 main points-
1. Different style of construction of the texts = different authors
2. Quran clearly is not a miracle if it is not consistant

Thank you for this important examination. The Truth that Allah is the only God becomes even more evident to those who may still have any doubt.
The correct conclusion is that there is no god, or at least no god that makes himself known. Islam's claim of being the original faith has no support in archeology nor textual criticism. In fact it is refuted by what we know about the evolution of religion.

It wasn't a debate.
The people who don’t ask this stupid question
Perhaps no way to know ... but we can extrapolate. The "Hebrew" bible was circumstancially adopted by the Jewish faith. the Jewish faith actually began during the reign of King Josiah, after KJ ordered his chief (pagan) priest to appropriately "restore" a manuscript of the Books of Moses that had been found hidden in Solomon's pagan-devolved Temple. What was actually produced was the JEWISH Faith, as devinely revealed from an ancient codex that had been "missing" for generations.

Here is better list of Dead Sea Scrolls, as kept and added to, by the Qumran community:
Great Isaiah Scroll (1QIsa): Contains the entire Book of Isaiah.
Second Isaiah Scroll (1QIsa): Another copy of portions of Isaiah.

Book of Tobit: A narrative about Tobit’s piety and adventures.
Wisdom of Ben Sira (Sirach): A collection of ethical teachings.
Epistle of Jeremiah: A letter attributed to the prophet Jeremiah.
Other Notable Manuscripts:
Temple Scroll: Describes an idealized temple and its regulations.
Copper Scroll: Lists hidden treasures.
Songs of the Sabbath Sacrifice: Liturgical texts for Sabbath worship.

Antioch is not in Syria but in Turkey closest to the northern Syrian border. It is now known as Antakya.
It was part of Syria until 1938.
Syria doesn't recognise Turkish occupation.
Inform yourself, read history.
Wow Bart, talk about overstatement! I really don't understand why Bart devotes his life to something he doesn't believe. What strikes me are all the people who think this stuff is new or revelatory. Any Bible college or any study for that matter will expose you to these things. We know about the Gnostics etc., we also know that they do not represent the orthodox faith and here I side with my Greek orthodox brothers and sisters.
Could someone tell me if Dr Ehrman discusses JESUS, theBIBLE and CHRISTIANITY? How would anybody know by watching this!
Well the word bible is mentioned and new testament but this is a small clip from a larger interview.
It's comparing the difference between the scrolls and later versions.
We love you for the sake of ALLAH
May ALLAH bless you my Brother
