Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
You guys should do a top 10 or top 20 list of music videos that don't feature artists in them that are on the song that the music video is for. Such examples include Twista featuring Kanye West Overnight Celebrity, Kanye is not in the music video. Jay-Z featuring Pharrell Williams I just want to love you, Pharrell is not in the music video. Common featuring Kanye West and John Mayer go, common is the only one that is in the music video. Cam'ron featuring Mase horse and carriage, Mase is not in the music video (there's actually an interesting story why). Will Smith featuring Coko from SWV Men in Black, Coko is nowhere to be seen in the music video.
Enemy. But the second viewing was glorious. Underrated gem for sure.
How to train your dragon
20 celebrities that look like other celebrites? Has that been done by you guys? And interstellar is my fav movie of all time
It was nice of Christopher Nolan to let some other filmmakers on this list. Lol
Tenet you have to watch a solid 5times
@@ethanob2167 at least
Lel
Still can't reach great late Kubrick's level
@@twosteppah978 so true
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
All of Kaufman's movies.
There is one GLARING omission. How the hell is Fight Club not on this list???
The first rule of Fight Club is: you do not talk about Fight Club. The second rule of Fight Club is: you DO NOT talk about Fight Club!
@@lorelei9884 God, now I need to watch it again... What a hardship. LOL!
I came here to say this, then I remembered the first two rules
Me with the matrix thoo
@@lorelei9884 🤣
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind needs to be on here
You should've just call this Christopher Nolan's filmography.
and Kubrick
A clockwork orange and blue velvet should be on that list
Don't forget Eyes wide shut
You could watch A Clockwork Orange 100 times and still never really understand it. That film is just wild.
The movie Brazil from the 80's was a glorious head scratcher the first time around
Being John Malkovich should definitely be on this list, as well as Moon.
"Imagine Watching 2001: A Space Odyssey Back in 1968." Thats Powerful Enough to Shut Every Arguments Up.
I was 9 when I saw it with my parents.
It’s the first adult movie they took me to.
At some point I said out loud I don’t understand this, and my mom said
Neither do I
We both have IQs close enough to join Mensa😎😎😎
@@batgurrl doubt it
@@batgurrl Anyone I've ever met who boasts their IQ is high enough to join Mensa is not only wrong on that account, but they're also an intolerable person to spend any time with. I hope for your sake that you are trolling with this comment.
@@batgurrl it's an pg rated movie not an ADULT MOVIE
@@Winnerrr-nz7pm not a movie aimed at children. That’s the way it was back then.
They didn’t even have movie ratings back then, but very few were ‘R’ rated. No sex, no cursing, not that much extreme violence
12 Monkeys my favorite movie. Bruce Willis proved to be a great actor and Brad in his best role
So underappreciated
@@MaximumBob One of the best sci-fi movies of all-time.
Is anyone else scratching their heads as to why the hell "Scream" is on this list? Who had to watch that twice to understand?! 🤣
The question is: who actually WANTS to watch it again
@@dgillian183 it’s a great movie
@@dgillian183 I do... it's a GREAT film!
My point was that you don’t need to watch it again. It’s a simple film! I should’ve specified that I don’t ever want to watch it again
They said they also include movies that are more intresting to watch again if you know the killer or something like that. I personally enjoied watching the movie again and paying extra attention to billy and stu :) (even tho, props to me, I knew from the first appearance of billy that it's him AND I held onto my suspicion till the end😌)
Eyes Wide Shut should have been on the list, even more so than 2001. It's Kubrick's most head-scratching movie, and that is saying a lot.
I Didn't Had Any Problem Understanding It. Its Story Is Shocking & Profound, But There Is Nothing Confusing/Puzzled About It.
A Masterpiece
@@scottbarkley496 Agree
True. Probably his most underrated film, what a gem of a film it is.
@kavikiru kavikiru well, I didnt thought there would be anything to understand in a second view. Still think so. I remember most of the dialogues, events, scenes, etc. even now. And, yeah, it didn't seem to be puzzled in any way. Maybe I'm too used to watch puzzled movies like prestige, Eyes Wide Shut Is A Movie I Can Understand In 1st View, Even If Other Viewers Can't.
The Machinist (with Christian Bale who looked like he was trying to kill himself for a film). The second watch has new meaning. Very underrated film.
What about Identity (2003). I enjoy watching it again & again even after the plot twist to figure out who is who.
Shutter Island when he said, "Which would be worse, to live as a monster or die as a good man?" Who here thinks he lied he remembered who he was what he has done and he would rather be lobotomized, and that letting them do it, it "Kills" the monster
Shutter island, inception, the prestige, interstellar. My 4 that I enjoy watching with someone who has never seen them. It's amazing that it's like watching 2 different movies after you've seen them.
I enjoy introducing people to The Jacket, which need not make this this, but is something to untangle
all great choices 🔥
I can’t get over the fact that comedian Louis Black was in Jacob’s Ladder.
Memento was the first movie i thought when i saw the title lol
I thought the same!!!
When I first watched the movie, Inception and Shutter Island it's mind bending theory wasn't up to my mind. I have to watch it 2nd time to understand it fully. 🧠
Vanilla Sky. I almost walked out of the cinema initially and it became one of my favorites!
I really don't like Tom Cruise but the film draws be back. Favorite line "red dress, strappy shoes....I think she's the saddest girl to ever hold a martini"
It took three viewings before I finally figured out what was going on!
Vanilla Sky is a remake of a Spanish film, Open Your Eyes (Abre Los Ojos). If you haven't seen it, you should definitely watch. IMO it's a far better film than Vanilla Sky and if you'er not a Tom Cruise fan, then you can see this story better made and without Tom Cruise in it.
Thank you!
@@Cokoshea did they english dub it? I mean if its already hard to understand...
Fight Club truly needs to be watched multiple times, even though cut backs toward the end explain a lot.
Basically every Christopher Nolan's original film needs to watch more than just twice
Once is too much his films are overrated overreaching opacity disguised as profundity. He's not that clever at writing as everyone thinks. His premises fall flat
@@glennbabic5954 shut up
@@ForeverStill_Fan1 if you knew anything about neurology and space you'd know that Inception and Interstellar are ridiculous ideas that would never be viable
@@ForeverStill_Fan1 Nolan bases his movies on real science but his ideas are majorly flawed. You can implant a false idea or memory easily through suggestion (which is why in court and interrogations you sent allowed to 'lead the witness') so you don't need a multi-layered mental inception device. And giving up on Earth to move to and plant crops on an unearthly black hole planet? What a ridiculous idea.
@@glennbabic5954 that’s why it’s called SCIENCE FICTION. Come again when you appreciate good movies
Fight club???
"But can you imagine watching 2001: A Space Odyssey back in 1968?"
Why, yes. Yes I can.
My mother took me with her to see it. I was four.
I think seeing that at such a young age sent my life in a direction that would not have been possible, just a few hours prior.
I know it's a little cliche but what no Fight Club seriously not even an honorable mention
pulp fiction is not confusing, duh, it's straightforward and it's one of the best films ever.
Totally agree! I love that movie, I even quote Jules Winfields lines
@@ImNesquicc I agree
@@ImNesquicc it is super overrated, but because it lives up to the hype
For some the plot was a bit confusing in terms of how each story plays out in different order
dummy !!
I'm pissed that you didn't include Fight Club or SE7EN!
Two brilliant films that should have definitely been on this list.
You don't have a brain apparently
Maybe because it didn't take more than once to watch to understand.
Why SE7EN? Fight Club, Yeah. But SE7EN Isn't That Much Complicated
@@mollywoodshots6503 some people are just simple.
I love Donnie Darko it’s one of my favorite movies but it is really hard to understand even after you’ve seen it a few times.
I say to any Donnie Darko fan... Y'all are doing yourself a HUGE disservice if y'all aren't watching the director's cut. It adds a solid twenty minutes and so much more vital information!
We can just go ahead and put Tenet on the "Movies you'll never understand" list. Another score for Nolan.
A Clockwork Orange would be number 1
In general Christopher Nolan made a bunch of mind bending movies : inception, interstellar, memento, tenet 🤯
The three that I'd recommend seeing twice are The Game (1997), Fight Club, and Being John Malkovich (both released in 1999) all are well worth seeing a second time.
i agree with u
My grandmother doesn’t understand how I watch united 93 so much in one day and she could tell I was traumatised by it
In Shutter Island you need repeat viewings to get all the clues to the ending.
Fight Club need to be on this list.
Joker? Us? Inception? These are pretty easy to follow. How are Predestination and Holy Motors only in the Honorable Mentions? And where's Persona? Primer?
This list could've been filled up entirely by European and art movies.
Like french movie La jetée, wich 12 monkeys is base on.
Inception was not easy to follow
@@furkanbozdag8198 That's right, and frankly i did'nt like the movie.
@@furkanbozdag8198 i dont get why people call inception confusing it was hella simple
If Inception Was Done By Any Other Director, It Would Have Been A Mess, And Won't Be Remembered. But Christopher Nolan Doesn't Keep Anything Simple, Does He...
For me it’s Sixth Sense and Seven Pounds. The second time I watched Seven Pounds I started crying on so many parts and my grandfather and grandmother who had never seen it were so confused and didn’t know why I was crying.
And 12 Monkey is Criminally Underrated !!
Damn, I just said the same thing
The prestige will always be #1 for me, seeing that (spoilers) if you follow the context clues you can tell who is the brother playing Vallon and who is playing Borden in every scene. When I first saw the movie in theaters I stayed for a second showing knowing how the movie ended.
that and the second plot twist (the first I had guessed) blew me away… I still can’t believe Hugh Jackman’s character was killing all is clones 🤯
Vanilla Sky. I’m still confused when I watch it.
After his car accident ruined his life, he signed up with LE, committed suicide and was living in a simulation designed by him to represent his ideal life. Until it glitched and his memories of his old life started mixing in with his Lucid Dream. At the end, he figured out what was happening, that's why he was yelling "TECH SUPPORT!" to get help. Tech support told him that they fixed the glitches in his Lucid Dream and technology had advanced enough to where they could fix his accident injuries and bring him back to life. Then he was faced with a choice: go back under and live his ideal, albeit fake life in his Lucid Dream with no more glitches, or take his chances in the real world where things aren't scripted. Which one he chose is up to your own interpretation. Brilliant film!
It took me a couple watching & regular 6 month rewatch choice to fully appreciate everything that is happening in Vanilla Sky, but I think its beautiful
The Arrival, Blow out, Vertigo, and so and so. But i like Donnie Darko, time travel..
Every Charlie Kaufman film should've been on this list. I've seen Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind fifty times and still discover new things.
Enemy is so criminally underrated.
It's simply to "intellectual" for a big portion of movie goers...
The first 2 movies that came to mind was The Sixth Sense and Saw. Then I watched the list and they are #5 and #7.
there's a difference between simply having a twist and being hard to understand but they don't seem to understand this... (+ many films on this list don't have one...)
I haven’t watched the whole thing but I hope Donny darko is on it
You got to watch it 500 times. I am still seeing stuff I missed.
Donnie Darko is hugely overrated, tedious, and not nearly as smart as it thinks it is.
@@danielhathaway1498 i havent seen it in since i was a kid. gonna have to rewatch it.
Even with the director's cut you gotta watch it a few times 😅
@@danielhathaway1498 explain
Cloud Atlas - 6 eras, 6 stories, 6 characters, 6 actors, 1 birthmark, 1 soul.
I did see 2001 in 1968, I was 14 when it came out in April 1968. It was mind blowing...at the time.
Fight Club is missing from the list.
What do you people have against Fight Club...how is it not number one???
Because "Big Trouble in Little China" is the missing number one.
I’m impressed that 12 Monkeys is on the list- I was all psyched up to say it should be an honorable mention before I even saw this video so now I’m forced to say- where’s Fight Club? Also, all of Charlie Kaufman and Stanley Kubrick’s films can all be appreciated more with more than 1 viewing. Lynch’s too and Nolan - well your listed covered him appropriately
Tenet should have definitely been up there. It’s much more complicated than Inception imo
Agree!
I 100% Agree.
Everything Christopher Nolan creates is a psychological roller coaster of the mind.
But it's but a good movie
I understood that movie the second time (probably cause imma huge Christopher Nolan fan)
@@rileywhalen6554 It worth watching a third time for sure. My fiancé and I have watched it 3-4 times in a row and each time picked up something new. It's an absolute masterpiece.
Fight Club, The Game, Basic, Mission Impossible 1
The movie Stay is one of my favs to watch multiple times. More of a piece of art than a typical movie, I like to find small details I've overlooked before.
Memento was definitely a movie I didn’t get the first time I saw it. Wasn’t until years later I finally got it
Mr. Nobody
Brilliant film that needs to be watched a few times
Saw it for the first time recently, was beautiful
I would have had "The Usual Suspects" a lot higher. My personal #1.
Nolan and Villeneuve are my fave directors forever and pretty much all their movies could be here ❤❤❤❤
also, where this hell is Fight Club?
I'll admit it I had to watch Inception twice got it the second time. I've watched Donnie Darko 10 times, because I like it.
Only Lovers Left Alive took a couple of watches to get it, but it quickly became one of my favourite films.
I watched Joker twice, literally. The second time I got the overall concept of it, heady though the logic is. Love it! ❤️
I knew United 93’s story already but that made me want to watch it and I was absolutely ruined
I took Watch Mojo advice, and I watch Memento , Joker, and Mulland Drive and was rewarded with classic acting, well---written plot, and powerful plots. I watch Cloud Atlas and develop movie gas and stomachaches. Enemy is off the hook.
Nobody mentioned Total Recall with Arnold. The Recall tech says ‘Blue sky on Mars’. Also No Way Out with Kevin Costner. It was the first movie I remember watching that I thought I have to watch this again.
It took three or four times to finally figure out whether or not it was real. I won't spoil it.
Tony: You have a lot of nerve showing your face around here, Hauser!
Hauser (forgot his real name): Look who's talking!
Also notable: Fight Club; Se7en; Primal Fear; Being John Malkovich; Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind; pretty much anything by Satoshi Kon (especially Perfect Blue).
"Big Trouble in Little China"
12 Monkeys is great. I never watched it because it looked stupid in the beginning but recently did after always hearing it's great. Im so glad I did. Cloud Atlas is good too. I had to watch that twice and still had to Google it for answers.
How is “Fight Club” not on this list?
Omg, “In the Shadow of the Moon” is an amazing movie that I believe would fit right in with this list as well!
Are you serious?
20 movies, and you didn't find a place for fight club, it should have been number one!
Number 2, maybe. "Big Trouble in Little China" is the missing number one.
12 Monkeys by Terry Gilliam is my favorite movie always. Having grown up in the 50’s and hearing about a kid fallen in small hole , I was so scared as a 5 year old. I feel like I remember hearing on the news about a kid prank..So, as a grown up when Thomas Cole shows up and is traveling in time and the psychiatrist thinks he looks familiar, the whole love story takes off and I am all in, Brad Pitt as Jeffrey he is absolutely stellar, and funny ,an academy award nominee for this movie with his crazy eye and fingernail biting, makes him an Iconic figure for Terry Gilliam’s masterpiece. When students told me they didn’t get it, I would tell them about the NYTimes article (fictitious) that stated people with high IQ’s loved it and low IQ’s didn’t get it and they’d say they would watch it again. Kids would stop me in the hall and do quotes, or one kid had Jeffrey down. We had bets on what Bruce saw more in his second dream and I saw it in the theater 3 TIMES and own it. I love how she starts to believe him and he wants desperately to believe her. Terry Gilliam and the French original writer of the short story really deserve to be given a second viewing of this movie with full concentration. It’s dark comedy and science fiction combined and the round room set with feathers flying everywhere and brad Pit jumping am mooning on the beds is worth your time. Q
TENET needed to be on this list. My attempts to follow this film’s plot, which utilized Nolan’s unique take on time travel, made my brain hurt.
They would only have camrip videos(if they pirate) which wouldn't be suitable for various reasons.
Sign of genius
United 93 I understand already but I decided to watch it because of how good it was and i had a massive headache from the stress and hurting myself before Remembrance Day isn’t good but I’m still remembering them in November
You need to rename this video to ‘movies that are viewed differently upon second viewing.’ In no way were these movies incapable of understanding upon first viewing.
Thanks i knew about Michael Ross! He was my professor in Oxford and told us about Vectra!
Fight club better be on this list!!!!
Broke the first rule
Raise your hand if you understood these the first time. 🖐🏻
I bet Primer is on here ,and I haven’t even hit play yet .
Not on the list, but it should be
You know the list is crazy when joker is just 20
Love your videos
What about fight club saw that movie more than 5 times
Us had me questioning everything I just saw by the end of it. I love that movie
I had to watch Guy Ritchies Movie "Snatch" 3 times to understand wtf was going on
If you enjoyed Snatch then you need to watch the "prequel" movie to Snatch which is "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels". It's a stand alone film but is highly considered to be the prequel to Snatch as it has roughly the same characters.
Even though I'm sick and tired of Pulp Fiction this film has a special place on my heart and will forever be my favorite movie ever because it was the one that got me into movies like never before
Where is Fight Club?!
Nolan's literally the master when it comes to this. That's why he's my favorite filmmaker of all time.
Who else thought Watchmojo would add Tenet to this list?
That should be in the top 5 because u really do need to watch it multiple times to understand it
Me and my parents got a headache from it
Nah because Tenet you have to watch 5-10times
Niels Bakker Me and my dad both had balled up napkin in our ears just from how fucking loud it was
Yeah, how is it not? Phenomenal film. Had to talk it over...and over with my kids and their friends to get our heads wrapped around it. And I STILL had to search it up to understand it more. Needs a second viewing for sure
I interpreted Jacob's Ladder as the story of a man who's soul travels through every possible life he could have lived, trying to avoid dying until he finally accepts death after all those other lives end up with his inevitable death. Side note: Elizabeth Peña, whom I developed a crush on after seeing her portrayal of Jessie, passed away in 2014.
Love this list
If Inception's at #10 and Donnie Darko's at #9, I wonder what could be higher?!
Mulholland drive without a doubt
Oh... Jacob's Ladder deserves multiple viewings! Such a fascinating film!
I loved this list! But I think Training Day should have been on there too.
Where’s Fight Club?
I totally agree with number 1 choice pulp fiction
One of my favorite Usual Suspects parodies was the Santa Claus Robot Chicken sketch.
I would like to see Watch Mojo do a list like this but with TV shows/seasons/episodes. You don't necessarily have to watch them twice to understand them, but a second watch makes things much clearer and it's interesting to pick up on the clues you may have missed the first time around. Some good ones I can think of are seasons 1, 2, and 5 of American Horror Story, season 1 of The Good Place, season 3 of Arrested Development, the Who Shot Mr. Burns? episodes of The Simpsons, several episodes of Black Mirror (White Bear, Black Museum, White Christmas, Men Against Fire), and several Twilight Zone episodes (The Hitch-Hiker, Eye of the Beholder, The After Hours, The Invaders, etc.).
Mine was Sucker punch, all the movies on this list I watched I understood it on first viewing
Memento should be #1. I had to watch it 10 times to get it!! Finally came to You Tube. They have Memento in chronological order on here somewhere. Most confusing movie I have ever seen!! Another Christopher Nolan masterpiece.
What about fight club
I watched reservoir Dogs a dozen times in one weekend. It’s brilliant. The Joker is definitely worth more time. Brazil, Baxter (French), Adaptation, Dead Ringers, Donny Darko, Jackie Brown, The Hours, King of Hearts, In Bruges, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Blade Runner, True Romance, Seconds,To Live and Die in LA, The French Connection, Angel Heart, Gas Food Lodging, Dark City, The Shining, The Machinist, Hard Candy, The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, El Camino, Night of Living Dead, Murder o the Orient Express, Vagabond (French),81/2 (Italian),Dune((what the fuck ?), Infamous, Men (German) , City of God (Brazil), Freaks and No Country for Old Men.
There must be some movies which have to be watched more than twice to understand properly and if there is, than plz plz make a top 10 of that if possible. Thanx for your hardwork , really really appreciate it. I mean it::..
Oh yes I have watch some of those few times already but totally feel the need to watch some again. 💗12 monkey's & Pulp Fiction. Some of those I'm okay for not watching ever again. Thanks 👍
I would include The Matrix, Seven, The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Unbreakable/Split/Glass.
