I'm proud to say I was maybe Tom's 3rd employee back in '75 when I was living with his family on Chestnut St. In Carlsbad, Ca. He would have me go up to Torrance to get the skins for it, load it on to a flatbed Tom stuck on to his little Chevy Luv' pickup truck. I'd leave the factory in Torrance, swaying, dancing skins behind me normally no problem but once a Stater stopped me, and said he laughed at me the time before I'd gone up, but now the load was almost touching the side of the highway. But, still just a warning. I guess the cop knew these skins were headed someplace special: Tom Morey' s first Boogie Board factory in Carlsbad. Wherever you are Tom, Marsha, Soul, Moon, Sky, and Kit I love you and thanks for letting me be a small part of your life! Live on FOREVER Boogie Boards & King Tom🏝 May you RIP. I will always remember California, Hawaii, and Washington. And, your eternal kindness during some rough stretches of a life sometimes gone crazy. Tom as a natural musician you were pretty damn inspiring. And, man you will always be One Hip Cat! 😎
Got my first Morey in '78. I'd spend all day long on it in Huntington Beach. 13 years old. Around 22 my girlfriend held one steady for me as I came running and jumped on it try to skim across the pool. Took about 10-15 tries before I stepped off onto the other side of the pool.
He didn’t invented the bodyboard… he invented the foam industrialized version of the paipo and made it popular. You can see videos of people bodyboarding Pipeline, Sunset, Waimea with paipos before the foam boogie board was invented… It’s all on UA-cam
Polynesians did… and they took it Hawaii. There are UA-cam videos of people bodyboarding with paipos at the best north shore spots in the 50’s… decades before the Morey Boogie was created
