Hey guys 👋 thanks for checking out Origins, let me know here what sport we should learn more about next?
Yeah mountain biking
Jiu jitsu
I love the boggie!!
Whitewater Kayaking (I can hook you up with everyone you need to talk to...)
Climbing 😊 I can help with that too 😉
Body-boarding is so underrated. No matter the conditions, whether it’s sloppy or perfect, you can body-surf. It’s so much fun too, you can barrel through waves that surfers couldn’t even try to barrel through. I love surfing but I love body-boarding just as much.
No its not, its easy and cringe

@@Michael-cs3li even if you feel that way bro. we all want one thing...barrels, aerials, speed. A true Waterman has respect for all water sports
@@webbiestoak2888 No hahaha

So nice to be part of this... Thanks you all 🙌🏻✌🏻
HUGO PINHEIRO ❤️
Thanks to Red Bull we now know the history of surfing and current status of body boarding . Oh and well presented
I grew up body boarding in Hawaii because my mom wouldn't let me surf. I now just moved to Puerto Rico from Austin and am going to turn 50 - born in '71, same year as the 'boogie board.' :) Walked to the beach here at San Juan yesterday- new years and there was almost no one in the line up. Can't wait. Thanks for the post and a little history. *A.
Took up the sport in 1998 at age 38. Still ❤️ it madly. Best fun ever 👌😎
Yes Andy, absolutely love this! The shots, the story telling, the legends in this... It's all kind of awesome. More of this please Red Bull & Andy!
Super proud of you and everyone you worked with Andy! This is such a solid first episode, I can't wait to see more! Editing, cinematography, sound design and most importantly the actual story, thoughts and info you shared was all on point.
NICE.
More to come!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love Bodyboarding. Thanks to Tom Morey the Creator 💯🤙🏾
Great film, a refreshing take on an extreme sport - yes, more please Red Bull and the team!
YES ANDY!
that JOB's place at 9:06?
Anyway, keep the bodyboarding content coming!!
Haha saw that too. Someone should send it to him.
I don’t think so maybe
Yes it is haha 😂🤙🤙
You have to investigate Peru’s culture, 10,000 B.C “Mochicas” made totora boards, they fish and ride waves many years before Tahitians or Hawaiians
You need to learn what surfing actually means before spreading misinformation.
@@grappling.enthusiast do you even know why is it called surf or surfing ?? it is not misinformation is Peruvian history you dont like it is your problem bra ;D
@@nightmare1507
I do know what surfing is and it is misinformation.

Surfing is the sport or past time of riding towards the surface on a wave with a surfboard
Bodyboarding is a special thing to do in the world
so sick, I have waited and waited for red bull to do something on bodyboarding, so stoked about this.
Yes!!I love this; it was so cool to learn about body surfing! All those legends mentioned!❤ Thank you redbull and all those involved in putting this together🤘
I love bodyboarding and it’s rlly fun and I’m 9 haven’t rlly done bodyboarding this year back last year when I was 8 it was the best thing ever
Amazing work Andy! Loved seeing your longer form storytelling. Really nice work. Excited for the next.✌🏻
So rad well done Andy 🙌🏼🙌🏾
Colin and Samir thanks boys!!!
Missing bodyboarding so much, soon we will ride again.
For sure! Stay healthy in the meantime and get ready to ride 🙌
I feel ya bruh 🤙🏻
Wow, this is so good. I remember body boarding as what I did on the New Jersey Shore as a kid. So cool to see the history of this sport and how extreme it actually is. Will there be more of these @redbull?
Thanks for the feedback! We're surely going to try to make more similar videos. What sports should we look into next time?
@@redbull More bodyboarding - so epic!
@@redbull you should do skiing!
This is such a well made doco. Loved every bit of it!!
That was awesome! You interviewed the perfect guys to talk about bodyboarding and surfing. I just wish you mentioned how Kainoa McGee could ride Pipe on a shortboard, longboard, SUP, and bodyboard, and how many titles Mike Stewart has won in bodysurfing too. Cheers.
tbf bodysurf comps arnt about the competition more about pipe or sandys with a couple of guys, just swimming around
@@kieranmurphy5101 Nope. You could use the same dumb logic you've used and apply it to any sporting competition.
@@joeskienz no you couldn't , for one surfing as sport is debatable , people don't play pro football to play on a pictch with only two teams like what
Support the sport of bodyboarding! Aloha from the birth place of surfing and bodyboarding! So stoked to see so many other cultures adapting and continuing to perfect the sport. Let's go!
Good video on body boarding. I recall when living on Oahu in the early to mid sixties the Waikiki Wall was my favorite hangout and would marvel at some of the kids STANDING up on Paipo Boards shaving the wall on the small waves. Some of the boards were just pieces of varnished plywood with a round nose, in fact I even saw a kid out there once using a McDonald's tray. Would love to see some recent body board foiling as it is still pretty scarce.
They’re still using the trays. They take them from Jack In The Box up the street 🤣
Great video bro 🙌🏼 😎 good as always
I love surfing
So many legends! Aww yes!
Great job Andy. I'm a sailor, windsurfer and bodyboarder. Love for all ocean users, but it's great to get a spotlight on bodyboarding for a change. Hugo + legends + Pipeline + your ernest and engaging presentation = fantastic Red Bull film.
Thank you! 😊
So sick! Beautiful film. More of this guys!!!
Thank you for making and sharing this awesome documentary ❤️ make me love the ocean more and respect everyone who's having fun on the wave. 🌊🏄
I love surfing.. Thanks red bull
Great stuff. I have bodyboarded in both Cali and Hawaii and have only ever heard negative comments from surfers in California. Like the guy said, as long as you're having fun and respect the ocean and others, in Hawaii it's all aloha
Congrats to redbull for putting more bodyboarding content! cheers
What other sports origins do you want us to look over? Let us know below ✌️
Climbing
Is the title meant to say bodyboarding?
skating!
Parkour
Skimboard!!
When i say that i skim most people think/imagine the kids throwing their wooden boards and skimming in the sand with water and don't know we can actually catch waves!
When I was a kid in Hawaii in the 70’s we rode wooden “Paipo “boards for skim boarding and bodyboarding, then boogie boards came out... too expensive for us kids 😂🤙
Stand up and get accepted or stay down and get pitted.
So true man. Bodyboarding has been my passion since I was a little kid. Always looked down on by cringy surf culture.
Yeah I love to surf, bodyboard, bodysurf. As long as your in the water having fun and excercisning who cares. Just be cool and follow the rules.
Seems most people are unaware that wood bodyboards existed long before the modern versions. I just made a new one like the one I rode as a teenager over '50 years ago. Took it out for the first time recently in Huntington Beach, & it was a blast. Thanks for posting this awesome vid!
Man I grew up in Jupiter FL. And I have done both surfing and body boarding. I have to say I had more fun body boarding! I miss it actually! Great video!
Amazing 🔥🔥🔥
Bodyboarding so underrated! Red Bull thanks so much for making this episode and educating people on “Boogie” Bodyboarding🙏🖤
really liked this one
great stuff
It's Tom Morey, not Tom Morley*
30 seconds! 30 seconds? Dead! :D what a legend.
This was awesome to watch. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Surfing may also be another magic that takes me to the unknown world.
It's a pity you didn't use much footage of the paipo riding and missed out on the whole history of foam and fiberglass paipos that were around before the boogieboard.
Do mountain biking if you haven’t already
The bored Biker easier to run from bears innit
I like seeing them riding kahalu on big island and not just pipe or Waikiki
I looooooooove bodyboarding
GREAT
Kaino e Mike, duas lendas!!

Stoked to see bodyboarding here, keep the bodyboarding coming but get a different host
Good Red Bull Video and They Are The Best I Want It .. I want a Ps4 I don't have :(
Nice
3 minute mark: "Tom Morley". Andy, Andy, Andy. Tom Morey. Hence "Morey Boogie". How the production team etc didn't catch that one is anyone's guess. Cool clip nonetheless.
Exactly what I was thinking
I'll be bodyboarding all summer here got all my gear ready
[cool]
Great story. But surfers can thanks George Greenhough for the progression of surfing and boards.
And surf mats.
WOW
FİRST :)
Something that needs to stop: the conjunction of the letters N and H (or L and H) in Portuguese make one sound, similar to the Spanish ñ. Hearing words like Pinheiro as Pin-heiro makes me shiver. ;)
Boogie boarding is happiness❤
Can I work for you? Seriously this is the kind of thing I want to do and I could really be of benefit!
I own two of the first. Morey boogie body boards made by Tom morey in 73 .... 132 B.E They are kinda hammered but what would you expect after 47 yrs, Smithsonian material.
bodyboarding is probs the most underated sport ever
Most bodyboarders know that bodyboarding is closed to the purest form of surfing, most surfers don’t. But remember the ocean is for everyone and if you’re having fun your getting it right.
bodysurfing is the closest tho
Love this attitude so much!
natural progression, you crawl before you can walk. But some never learn to stand.
@@oliverlennard get new material.
30 secs? Dead. LOL
Do a vid on why everything died out
👍👍👍
Kelly Slater started out bodyboarding he said it years ago so did I now look and we still jump back on.. blair Conkin same
The body board was invented at honls beach. By Tom morey. Kailua kona hawaii. Super deadly wave .shallow. Hallow. spitting barrels. Surfing i pulled to backside 720 .right and left.we tore down the old shaping shack.made a beautiful beach .with the honls boys . Lyle. Krista .
What I was hoping to hear more about. The modern evolution of the sport. No just a blanket over view, This leaves a lot to be discussed in more detail. I used to ride Honl's, Old A's , etc. the birth places of modern body boarding.
I used to be a test pilot for Turbo bodyboards. No pay but free equipment.
Maybe 90% of the world dont know the origins but i know the origins of both surfing and bodyboarding. So before i start it i wanted to write this. I hope they use the original paipo board. The origin of a bodyboard. Okay now watching this lil docu, i should also say Hugo should feel better to know now that i know hes Portuguese alot of us hawaiians are Portuguese. Crazy. I never heard of Hugo.

Pretty cool. Your work is appreciated. But unfinished.
Were you aware that Peruvians had been riding waves on crafts designed to ride waves, long before the Polynesians ever colonized Hawaii. Look into it. Very interesting stuff. The bodyboard of course is a direct offshoot of the paipo, but surfing existed before that.
I grew up in Hawaii, and learned all this same stuff. It wasn't until about 10 years ago i discovered that Peruvians had done it longer
Peruvians didn't surf, your misinformed.
@@grappling.enthusiast if you're gonna chime in, ateast know what you're talking about. Peruviana might have used a different craft than the modern surfboard, but they've been surfing for thousands of years. Look into it, kook.
@@redeyestones3738
How about you look up the definition of Surfing buddy?
"the sport or pastime of riding a wave towards the shore while standing or lying on a surfboard."
Totora does not fit the definition.
Think before you speak.
@@redeyestones3738 apparently they used the reed totora to get out past the surf for fishing... when done, they rode the wave back in, sitting on it like a kayak/canoe. It was just a small float craft for the fishing...
Don’t forget surf mats.
Bro it's called the jack stans from the original dk rider
