  • In this walk you will tour the biggest church in the world, St. Peter's Basilica. That being said, I know I didn't see everything and I probably missed a few major sites but I hope you can enjoy the walk regardless.

I had the privilege of going here and it was astonishing. An acquaintance of mine told me he would be visiting Italy soon. I told him the Vatican and St. Peter's Basilica were a must. "Ehhh, I dunno," he responded. "I'm not really the religious type." Some people just don't get it. You don't have to be religious (I'm not) to appreciate the architecture, artistry, history, and scope of such an amazing place. Every single piece of work inside has its own amazing history. I hope I can return one day -- but there's so much more to see in the world! And to all those people saying that you can see everything in Rome in one day -- no can't! Give yourself a full day for just the Vatican and SPB. Then you still have the coliseum, the pantheon, the trevi fountain, the roman forum, the spanish steps, the Victor Emmanuel II National Monument, and so much more. Great food in the Trastevere area and cacio e pepe is a must-have.

People who say that must be blind, Rome and Italy are abundant in art, architecture and history.
But I guess if you don't like any of that it's not much to see. I visited St Peters basilica when I was in Rome and to be quite frank you would need several days just to get an overall look at most of
the stuff in there. First time your brain can't even comprehend 30 % of it! It's unbelievable.

      @peepinR 3 роки тому +4

I agree. I'm not religious myself but I am a history nut! And the scale of the place is astonishing but so are so many churches in that place. The churches there do triple duty: a place of worship, art museum and history museum. Rome is great! It's smelly though once you get out of the touristy areas though. ; )

Without the inspiration of the Holy Spirit this can't be done. Imagine even the painting like are mosaic? The Lord really want only the grand for His One and True Church. The Jewish failed the Lord, so He need to establish a Church in honor of His Only Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ. He allowed the destruction of the Temple He instructed to be built in His honor because His chosen people abandon their Covenant with Him many times, even rejecting and killing the Messiah.

A profoundly different experience from the one shown here. More reverent contemplation of the church's aesthetic grandeur without the thousand+ tourists. It's absolutely spectacular, i am in awe, those words dont even get close to describing the stunning visual before you, when i walked in my jaw literally dropped to the floor, I was in the queue outside ,a long queue, wondering was it going to be worth it as I was very tired I hadn't done any research or checked it out on UA-cam, I thought it was just a normal church, ,when I walked in my jaw literally dropped to the floor, I have never experienced anything like this before, it's so vast and amazing and beautiful, its overwhelmingly beautiful, immense ,intoxicating , there is so much going on in that one building its hard to absorb it all, if man has the ability to create such stunning , overwhelmingly beautiful intricate and complicated architecture on earth, what must they be creating in heaven, I hate to leave in case I loose the wonderment and awe I feel being here, I feel so small and insignificant compared to the geniuses that created this magnificent building , if you want to experience a piece of heaven go visit this palace, you will never forget it,I know I wont for a long time 🥰🥰🥰🥰

Things have changed. I was born in Rome but have lived in UK since 1970 but I visit as often as I can but, now there are long queues as there weren’t in the 60’s till mid 70’s. One could walk in and out as often as you liked. I remember there wasn’t any protective glass by the Pietà till in 1972 a mad man climbed over and started to hit the statue.
To this day, I’m still amazed by the huge amount of art works within the Basilica as well as outside.
    It’s simply beautiful and majestic.
A must for anyone, even if you’re not religious you will appreciate the splendour of it all.

I have visited many times, and the size outside and inside always impresses me. There are this bronze stars inlaid in the floor of the main aisle leading up to the altar/Baldicchino. Each one of the stars is labeled with the name of a church, also bronze and inlaid in the floor. Each star marks the distance from that point to the end of St. Peter's behind the altar. For example, you stand on a star labeled "St. Patrick's, NYC," and you look past the altar towards the end of the church. Then you turn around and face the front entrance, and there's still.200 feet, or something like that. These stars show how each major church in the world would fit easily into St. Peter's. It is humongous. You can see in the video they have the aisle curtained off.

I saw the Pieta when the Vatican sent it to the Montreal World's Fair in 1967. I vividly remember it not just for the indescribable beauty but there were some young Israelis in front of us in line. As we were working our way forward they had a radio and the first report if the 1967 war came over. They were going iver to the Israeli pavilion to see if their units had been called up and we followed to get more information.

The Pieta is dramatic - one could swear God created it though the hands of Michelangelo.
Rome has become extremely congested over the last few years. At times, it is wall-to-wall people, so line-up are very common for practically anything. Effectively, the tourists are ruining the place.

Apsco Radiales as much as I know what you mean but, I wouldn’t swear.
Michelangelo was a genius just the same many other geniuses.
      He was however deeply religious.
Between his genius and his belief he was highly committed to his art.
